Although advancements to promote stability with food as well as health with newly introduced chemical engineering occurred, no one seemed to notice what the chemicals were doing to alter the genetics of babies who were being born as a result of people eating these new and improved foods as well as the newly developed treatments for diseases. The ST3M-Virus remained quiet in children, allowing them to seem healthy all the way until they hit their twenties. No one could have suspected what happened next. Soon an epidemic was spreading all among the world, young adults filling hospitals with atrocious symptoms that spread panic. It caused their lungs to grow unstoppable masses that would fill with a black blood like substances that would burst and cause extreme pain. The black substance would slowly fill the lungs and spread more of the disease throughout the body and bloodstream. Eventually it resulted in a catastrophic death that was far from painless. Symptoms can include a rattling cough, fever, chills, fainting, dark bruising, black liquid when coughing, internal bleeding, frail bones, death.Although scientists are working hard to cure it, there is no way to identify where they went wrong with all the new genetic advances. It also doesn't help that the virus is continuously changing, altering itself to remain alive within it's victim. The only way to get rid of it is to breed it out, pairing healthy mates together to produce a child with the gene that keeps the virus dormant. Luxe Incorporated surfaced as an investor in finding a cure, finding a business opportunity in the manipulation of those belonging to the high society, offering them the first to be cured were a solution ever found. For large sums of money, those who could afford it would be put on a waiting list.
Believe it or not, all of these men come from the top of the social pyramid, all successful in their respective fields. These are men who were not "chosen", they were contacted for a business opportunity. Once they had wives, they could have children that would live to carry on their legacy, to keep their lineage alive. Luxe Incorporated would then take care of dealing with any issues that might be in their way with their respective businesses. For example, if you were a CEO with lawsuits on your hands or issues with company security, Luxe would make sure to take care of it. If you were an artist needing more spotlight, dealing with those trying to make profit off of you, Luxe would take care of it.
The Promnestria project surfaced when the Luxe Inc. team realized there would be a chance that children from poor families could be carrying the healthy gene, and so they began a raffle of sorts. By offering the chance for females from lower class families to win, there was a higher chance that families with high society lineage could keep themselves alive. Each year a new cycle offered the opportunity to live lavishly while finding a "husband", that could bring them out of the poverty. In exchange, those who managed to make a match and have a family, would be offered a chance on the shortlist to the cure.
While there is a vast amount of futuristic technology and medical equipment around, it is hard to trace any type of change within the virus. The technology that helped advance the world is useless to this horrible disease. However, it is not useless for the entertainment of others. Technology is very futuristic and useful in hospitals, houses, police departments, etc. It is used to keep the environment clean and neat, to try and keep the public from panicking any more. To the public eye, Luxe Incorporated is a company doing the most kind work in finding a cure and securing the future. They sell household products, electronics, medical software, and provide a chance for those who win to escape poverty. In a world where the population is constantly decreasing, it is hard for those before the virus to sustain themselves. Those who lived before the virus began are now old, and the chances that the human race will survive are dwindling. This is the only hope, a monopoly constructed on the lives of those who are you.
