Or maybe the two kingdoms are at war and the princess is taken captive to use as leverage or something like that. I'm really open to ideas for this so feel free to suggest away.

I would like for...

Elysia

Sia stood at the window of her new bedchambers, gazing beyond the glass and down onto the grounds below where she could see some of the workers tending to the gardens. She felt incredibly alone at that moment though she had only just been left to her own company. Although she had been received with warmth and kindness, she failed to shake the knowledge that if she had refused the marriage, they would be slicing down her father's men without delay. The decision had mostly been made for her, though she did not argue. She would not risk the lives of so many over her pride. After all, this was the world she lived in. She was not born with the freedom to marry someone of her choosing and she knew one day the time would come when her father would decide a suitable husband for her. At least this way she would be building peace where there would have been bloodshed.

Her betrothed had not been available to receive her and would not return to the castle for another day. Elysia was both relieved and irritated by this fact. At least she had a little while longer to get her bearings before plans for the wedding were pushed forward. Even so, she would have liked for the man she was betrothed to to welcome her upon her arrival. It hurt her ego a little to know that he might not care at all what she was like, and that the marriage was simply a convenience and a way to build power. She was angry with him for bringing her so far away from her home, though she knew she had little right to be when he was offering peace with her kingdom.

A knock on the door startled Elysia from her thoughts and she jumped some before turning to look towards it. She listened as the man on the other side of the thick wood spoke and his words pooled anxiousness in her stomach. Safer that she would not be lost in an unfamiliar castle? Or safer that she might not be attacked from someone who does not appreciate her presence? She is the enemy, wrongfully accused but an enemy nonetheless, until she is married to the prince. And perhaps even then.

"Of course. One moment," she called, smoothing down the material of her skirts and ensuring her curls were neatly pinned back before crossing to the door and opening it.
