Lady Insanity

I live for the chaos, yet I'd die for peace.
RP Area // Overview// Characters

Our story begins with a war. Centuries ago, there was a mighty kingdom, ruled by a powerful and true warrior and king. He united the land when no one thought it possible. His son, Prince Ascelin, was raised as a warrior in his fathers image. Raised to be strong and virtuous, Ascelin knew what it meant to be a knight by the age of twelve. Warriors, rogues, and mages alike lived in peace, the entire land always standing together. Ascelin's father believed in a united land, seeing those of all origins as equals. Few dared to oppose the king, and those who did met a fate only described as just and deserving.
Then came the dark age. Men seeking to usurp heaven and explore the unknown instead cast down a legion of demons. Summoned from the depths of the underworld by a powerful, evil creature by the name of Dumanax, usurpers had caused this arrival and attacked the kingdom. The demons, called the Shadoji, wreaked havoc upon the land. It is said that Shadoji were shapeless forms of evil entities, but these foolish mortals gave them new life. Dumanax was a being born of the darkest minds and power. A disciple of Silence, rumored to serve an higher mysterious being, he gathered a legion of demons from the underworld and formed them in his image to overthrow the king and bring chaos. Only the bravest and truest of warriors could stand against them. In a great fight, the king had fallen in battle, leaving Prince Ascelin to take the role as king, leading warriors into battle. Ascelin banded together with entire armies into battle against the Shadoji. While his father's body was never recovered. Taken by the demons as a trophy.

Ascelin and his allies knew they'd need a greater power to stop Dumanax and the Shadoji; at least to seal them back underground. A sorceress made the choice to call upon brave and true warriors from their ranks. A noble knight from his army, an cunning thief, powerful mages were gathered. As well as one tribute from a nearby tribe of forest-dwelling 'barbarians'. These barbarians had taken in Ascelin's ally in the midst of war under his protection, forming an unbreakable trust with the barbarians. Together, King Ascelin, his comrades, and the chosen warriors apart of Ascelin's new elite force drove Dumanax back into his own world, the Shadoji following in suit. Powerful magic had been used, as well as weapons forged under dragon fire, metals from a supposed depth of the Earth thought impossible, and a blessing from the highest priestesses.

Ascelin had undergone further loss than his father. As Dumanax had fallen, he had slain Ascelin's mother in the process, as well as his beloved soon to be wife. All the more reason to seal Dumanax away. But...the Shadoji wouldn't stay sealed forever. Ascelin knew of this, so he made it his official ruling, that he and he alone be sealed away. He would slumber for as long as needed, waking when the Shadoji did. Every hundred years, Ascelin rises again. But as centuries would go on, Ascelin's demand of the spell of eternal battle morphed into a curse. The King chose the path of eternity to protect his land, but somewhere along the line he found it a curse by the very same magic that placed the spell on him. Magic that bestowed incomprehensible power onto him and his Knights.

The Divine Knights would become a bloodline to those before. The original Divine Order were sworn by blood to train their children's children to join Ascelin as he rose up from his century-long slumber. Hundreds of years have passed on, and with every century before Dumanax is sealed away, he mysteriously gains a new ally. A new general. And with time, like the modern world, Dumanax and Ascelin, seemingly cursed together, evolve as well. Dumanax' forces evolved into more modern style fights varying on the time, as well as Ascelin's growing mind. He stands forever against the Shadoji, records of past Knights allying with him kept by anonymous historians and keepers of Divine lore. Illusive Ascelin slumbers now, just as the current time and generation prepares to face Dumanax. However, the current world is only knowing of this story as a legend, folk lore. Dark times are ahead, and one may only prey that the Divine Order has evolved with the Shadoji. And that Ascelin's tomb is well-protected by those sworn by oath, as well as the randomly chosen historian of this generation. Preparations are in the making, and the world must now stand ready for what is to come. For change is coming. Many fear change, many will fight it with all of their being. But sometimes...change sets them free.

Divine Lore:

King Ascelin: Ascelin Faye was first a noble prince serving under his father, who had united many people of many cultures together. The father of Ascelin did bring together many families of noble birth, including even those of dwarfs and elves. As well as lesser-known pixies within the forest and a strange horned race nicknamed "the Tal." He was a fair and noble man, believing everyone in every right was equal. He as known as the most peaceful king in centuries. But all of that died with him when the Shadoji arose and attacked his lands. Ascelin's rise to power was a bloody one, burying his father, his mother, and even his betrothed. Ascelin composed the Divine Knights with the help of a mysterious sorceress draped in dark purple robes and a single feather worn in her hair. The story tells it all, minus the identity of the first Knights themselves. Ascelin was an excellent warrior and remains so. After forming the Divine Order and beginning his intertwined slumber with Dumanax at the hands of the very same sorceress, things formed new legend. All Knights had been given claim to nobility in their own right following his slumber.

The Sorceress: Little is known as to her name or where she came from. Only that she aided Ascelin in creating a powerful and worthy chosen force to fight the Shadoji. The feather in her hair was from a griffon--thought to be extinct. She vanished after sealing Ascelin in slumber at his request. It is rumored that she herself later formed a secret order of warriors called Wardens to assist the Knights should they ever require it. It is unknown if the order was real or still exists. Perhaps the truth vanished with her.

The Noble Knight: Prince Sebastian Caron. A loyal and faithful man in his family, Prince Sebastian served his own family's kingdom well under the reign of the Fayes. He was a warrior capable of butchering many foes at a time when the time called for it but striking negotiations with lesser foes. Battlefields came in all forms to him. Either a physical plain or a political meeting over mead in a tavern. He and his son were on an expedition underground to face with the newly arisen Shadoji in the time of the first war. The two were separated in the tunnels underground, both leading squads of men even if his son was merely a boy at the time. He was a young, but good father. When he discovered his son in the tunnels underground he fond him dead, slain by the Shadoji. But then others found him cradling his dead son in his arms, the soldiers thought it had been his own doing. This led to him being brought in and trialed by his own wife and parents as a murderer. Sebastian was then exiled and thrown into the woods, unarmed, to die at the hands of the Shadoji. He was bitter that his family did not believe him. Ascelin found him first; fighting off a cluster of the demons with his bare hands and recruited him to serve in his new Order, giving him a new purpose and a chance for revenge on the demons. Personal bodyguard to the king and vanguard on the battlefield he served proud and with honor. His son was named Vincent, and the name has been passed down in his bloodline for generations.

The Cunning Thief: Kalista Tabris. A simple girl in a village just outside the kingdom, Kalista served a role of a vixen in the streets. She was beautiful and many people found her desirable, more than her abusive parents ever did. She worked as a...personal companion to many, servicing their needs in all ways emotional and physical. A prostitute by day...and a thief by night. From her many clients she serviced she also gained targets. Mostly rich men from noble lines or important people in the village, Kalista would drop by undiscovered at night after scoping their homes out when serving them by day. She'd rob them blind and take whatever she wanted, eventually picking up the skill of a bow from a champion archer she'd had the pleasure of...pleasuring in her life. However this wasn't for selfish reasons entirely. Many of those rich men had been awful to or stolen from hard-working commoners. She took only a tiny portion for herseld and anonymously returned everything else to its rightful owners. Kalista got cocky on one occasion and became engaged to one of her clients who was handsome and daring and from a rich family of suave theives. She planned to rob his entire family after gaining access to their home only to be attacked on her wedding day. Action caught up with her when an old client she'd robbed showed up and vowed to kill her for stealing from him. Her fiance was killed after shielding her from an arrow. She may have wanted riches and card about returning stolen properties to the right people, but she grew furious and fought back, protecting her crooked would-be in-laws and fleeing the wedding to spare the guests who had no need to die for something she did. She was discovered second by Ascelin in her wedding dress, spattered in blood, running from the men who invaded her gold-digging wedding and she was given a chance to atone for her actions of theft but also build on the slightly heroic acts if she would use her skill as a rogue to help against the demons. More than she signed up for, but she had also found purpose like Sebastian--a second chance to be more than a stealing shrew.

The Wise Mage: Daylen Pavus. He originated from a prestigious family. North of the Faye kingdom he lived among his family members in their estate. The Pavus family had less than admirable mentions in society, however. For generations they'd worshiped a false god under some kind of cult. Old gods in legends provoked the family to practice powerful and sometimes forbidden magic. Only fools would actually dare to partake in the rituals, however. A god representing lightning and promising wisdom to those who worshiped him. Daylen never succumbed to the cult-like behaviors. He practiced magic outside of the kingdom's law, thought technically his family wasn't part of the kingdom and was part of another considering the boundaries of land. Somewhat of a thrill-seeker, Daylen forged a staff of pure onyx and ventured into a dimension of dreams where demons ruled and spirits wandered, magic flourishing in every direction. Daylen learned from spirits and battled demonic entities in the realm, building his magic up to the rank of a high magister. Daylen befriended spirits to help him learn; and when he would awake from his adventures in this realm he'd share the knowledge with his cultist relatives. Eventually he persuaded the cult to end after finding the false god in the realm of dreams, merely a demonic force posing as a god to feed its power and would eventually take the lives of said followers. He saved his family and slew the demon. Daylen studied many forms of magic, having heard of the Shadoji in the neighboring kingdom rising, he chose to seek out the king--Ascelin's father--to offer aid on behalf of his family. But when he arrived, he found Ascelin was now king and battling the creatures to no end. He cast a storm of lightning and temporarily saved the castle from an invasion, even surrender his staff as a sign of good faith when Ascelin's men saw him as hostile because of his homeland. He had been the third invited to join the order after seeing his power in action, as well as the knowledge on demons he could provide.

The Primal Hunter: Jatah Oathkeep (formerly Sunthane). Just outside of the kingdom in the jungle lived a tribe of primal barbarians. They knew language and common customs of trade but had no regard for politics or fancy clothes. Skins or furs from animals were much more appealing to wear. The tribe was formerly known as Tribe Sunthane. Jatah grew up to be a hunter and a competitive climber of the tribe. He was most known for hunting bears and skinning them himself, only as part of his culture. Personally he adored animals but knew they were on the Earth for more than just living, but to be eaten and give life to humans. At least that is what the elders of the tribe say. His tribe in the forest was ran by three elders, a chief hunter, an augur, and a chosen diplomat to interact with outside people. As far as worship, they worship many Gods; a father of mountains, mother of skies, son of seas, and daughter of flames. Jatah carved a set of daggers from the bones of a great snake-like monster's fangs and challenged any and all creatures to fight him. Bandits would often attack his tribe, and Jatah defended it with pride and usually left more men wounded than dead. Killing people was different from animals, to him. Barbaric methods applied to invaders. The tribe was very secretive and preferred keeping to themselves. Trading with the outside world was a rare occasion for good reason. Jatah loved competition but loved a good fight more. Outsiders or monsters/menacing animals, he did not care. Yet he remained gentle with the meek and knew when to be considerate. The tribe was funny that way. Extreme views but dedicated ones. On a dark night, fire engulfed his tribe's home. Seclusion mattered not to the demon army of the Shadoji, an unheard enemy at that time. The demons burned the island and attacked. Jatah and his people fought back but withdrew when they were outnumbered severely. Luck led the tribe as they ran to cross paths with Ascelin and his then already-formed band of knights. The knights were passing through to combat the demons as part of a test to gain the sorceress's approval when they stumbled on the barbarians. Ascelin was injured attempting to help, and once the demons were turned away, Jatah's tribe elders decided to heal him. The king helped prevent the tribe's destruction, and with their fierce loyalty swore to help him however they could. Jatah was then given to the Knights by his elders as a pledge of good faith, something Jatah gladly accepted, the fifth to join and completing the order and the tribe changing names from Subthane to Oathkeep. In return, Ascelin granted them a new home on a small island.

The Mystical Enchantress: Harper Surana. Surprisingly, there is little known as to this woman's heritage. As a baby she showed signs of magic and was given up to a Circle mage tower where she would be taught how to harness her magic in a safe and prepared environment. From apprentice to Circle mage, Harper studied hard all her life and never bothered the watchful guards within the Circle. Harper was a quiet girl. Her parents never came to see her in her lifetime. She did not know them personally, but was told their names when she was old enough in the eyes of the senior enchanter. Harper had practically been raised by him as well as every instructor mage in the tower. They lived by an oath that magic served man and did not rule. Magic for fighting was something only savages practiced. Her Circle was far more interested in enchanting artifacts and humble studies of creation and healing magic to benefit society and show the guards in the tower who were to kill mages deemed unsafe and keep an eye on the rest that they were productive and good. Guards may have scary jobs, but they weren't scary men and women. In fact, Harper grew to be close friends with many guards and fellow mages alike. Harper peacefully learned about magic and the dangers/wonders it posed from the time she was a girl to her adulthood. She'd never saw combat a day in her life outside of a harrowing test by the senior mages that she enter the dream realm and fight a demon to prove she was of strong will. She froze that demon and snapped it into pieces. Combat wasn't her focus...but she was far from defenseless. The Shadoji invaded the tower randomly, drawn to the magic within it when Harper shielded herself and many guards from glass shattering and demons firing magic at them. She aided many people in the plea for their lives and drove away demons, even throwing a protective ward on the walls to keep them out. King Ascelin ventured to the Circle tower in search of another candidate. Harper approached him and personally asked to be part of his Order. Nobody knows why she chose to be the fourth to join him, it wasn't like her outside of wanting to be a good person. Nevertheless, he accepted her offer and left with the senior enchanters permission

The Realm: A dream world only visit-able by mages, this world is ran by demons and wandered by spirits. It is said that this is the place where magic comes from and supplies the mages with their power. Dangerous but valuable for knowledge. Many secrets lay dormant in the realm but not much lays unreachable.

Warriors, Rogues, and Mages: Warriors tend to be of noble birth and train to be strong and durable. Rogues come from all walks of life, taking simply skills and turning them into assets. Mages either study in a tower or risk studying outside of common law outside of the Circle's protection. The Divine Knights meet these credentials and then some, all having claim to nobility after serving the king in his fight. Each Knight would later have daughters that have daughters, passing the bloodline of the Knights on their the mothers of every Knight, thus the surname changing in every generation.

Pawns: Pawns are individuals picked up along the journey's of the Divine Knights. The Knights are exclusively human, however through ancient treaties Ascelin has connections to dwarfs, elves, the Tal, and pixies around the world. Mostly hidden in the modern world, however. But should the Knights need help, a treaties stands with each race and faction. Pawns lay no claim to Knighthood or any titles. Their allegiance is only temporary.

Wardens: Legends. Possibly an order of warriors formed by the mysterious sorceress who aided Ascelin form the Knights in the first place. If they really exist, they have never been contacted or made themselves known.
