Fringe the Hedgehog

Escaping Prison Island

steven_the_hedgehog_by_monicashadowxd-d62ovwt.jpg

Gotta go fast!

Doctor Eggman was after him, despite the speed at which he was currently running the man always managed to find him. Except Fringe wasn't interested in him, he was just looking to get out of Prison Island after being captured here yet again. The military always managed to find him, except it was the Eggman that had managed to get him out of it this time. That didn't mean the man wasn't eager to capture him, he used any chance he got to chase after the hedgehog.

Except Fringe wasn't having any of it- he left Brink back at headquarters and his friend was probably more than worried about him. He was worried, every moment that he didn't see Brink meant another paranoid minute alone.

It was those thoughts that got him captured him in the first place, as Brink and he were looking for the scatter Chaos Emeralds. When they made their way to an abandoned warehouse, he had been distracted by Brink. he didn't know what it was, but all of a sudden his attention was on him, all the time- even when we was supposed to be looking for the Chaos Emerald.

Fringe shook the thoughts away from him, trying to make the thoughts go away. He needed to get out of here before the military or Dr. Eggman found him. Fringe took off as fast as he could, heading back to headquarters, where his long time friend Brink was waiting for him along with their other friend, Shade the Rabbit.

Moving at the speed of sound...

Brink was waiting at what him and Fringe referred to as their "headquarters". It was a secret base that Dr. Robotnik once used for one of his nefarious plots. Isolated in the western coastline, it was a secret cavern that had underground chambers running through the whole thing. The place was hydro-powered, it used electricity gathered from the tides to power its doors and other machines. Most of Robotnik's evil machines were destroyed or deactivated because of Sanic. However there were still a few that ran around the base and had to be defeated by Fringe when he went inside.

Brink though was waiting at the former hangar station, where Robotnik's ships and other vehicles would leave the base. He heard from Shade that Fringe was attempting to escape from Prison Island and that he would be at the headquarters as soon as he did. Brink waited eagerly, he always liked having Fringe around. Mainly because Fringe was a tough guy, he could run almost as fast as the legendary Sanic but he was also strong. Fringe once took on three of Eggman's goons at once. He was also able to defeat a BULLET attack robot.

Brink was not so great in that department. He had other gifts and talents, he could also run pretty fast. Yet he was sad when Fringe was arrested by BULLET and placed in prison island. He had been arrested under suspicion of stealing the chaos emeralds. It wasn't a charge Brink thought was impossible for Fringe, he always wanted to go fast.

A bit tipsy when making this post. But it is for you Kagura (<3) at the cost of my dignity

Quickest hedgehog around...

Fringe could finally see the entrance to the underground cave system that he and Brink had deemed their 'secret headquarters'. The problem with that was that Dr. Eggman was still on his tail, "Frinnnnnnge!" The evil mastermind was at it again, letting his anger build as he chased after one of the quickest hedgehogs around. It was too bad Sanic was faster than him, although he had yet to prove it with an actual race against Fringe.

It was also hard fending off Dr. Eggman without Brink at his side, who's specialties lay in other areas on the battlefield. Fringe couldn't lead the evil scientist back to their headquarters though, that would put both Shade and Haze in danger as well. Making a choice on the manner, Fringe changed his path, running up a cliff side before flipping off it, landing directly in front of Dr. Eegman. "Pesky hedgehog, I'll get you ye-!" it took a moment for the pilot to notice him standing on the front of his hovercraft.

"You're too slow!" Fringe taunts the man before powering a fist directly into his control panel, springing backwards off the craft and tucking into a ball. Dr. Eggman immediately cursed, faltering with the controls as Fringe raced out of there, getting into the tunnels before he could reign control of the machine.

When he got inside, he had to re-navigate the complicated tunnel system, all too eager to find his companion in the center of their secret space. When he eventually circled back, he saw Brink, yellow highlights and all- waiting for him there. As much as the relief came to him, he had to act cool in front of his friend- a hug would probably be too forward. "Brink!" still, Fringe could not keep the excitement off him seeing his friend, his body practically radiated with it.

Got ourselves a situation,

Brink waited patiently in the former hanger. He could sense that Fringe was close. Brink could also sense that Fringe was in danger. He wasn't sure how exactly he knew this, he just did. Brink was special kind of person. Pacing around the hangar that was now half-filled with water, he was nervous and he was alone.

Haze had parted ways with the group, going on her own adventures to the Northern badlands. She had little interested in waiting for Fringe, who she saw as nothing more than a pesky rival. Giving a goodbye present to Brink, she handed him a vial with a tiny crystal in it. It was a tiny sliver of crystal but it glowed a bright green. Haze explained that she found the shard in the desert while traveling. Explaining it as a part of the Mister Emeraldz, she told Brink to be careful of Kneckles and Sanic who might also desire the shard. With a giggle and a stolen speed-cruiser, she was off. Much like Fringe, Haze was wanted by BULLET for crimes she supposedly conducted a few years ago.

Shade was not so far gone. She was just further in the base painting her toes red. She apparently got the color scheme from a Hedgehog who was in the news. Some criminal that Brink hadn't heard about before.

Brink was ecstatic when he heard his name. "Fringe!" he yelled back to his comrade as he came running down a tunnel from the surface. "I can't believe you managed to escape from Prison Island."

Stuck in a new location,

"Were you worried about me?" Fringe settles on patting Brink's shoulder rather than giving him an embrace like he wanted to, Fringe grinned at his friend. The hand on Brink's shoulder stays a moment too long before Fringe forces it away; he was really happy that Brink had gotten away with his help. Their discovery had been Fringe's fault after all, he kept thinking about how a Kaos Emerald would make him the quickest hedgehog around. Brink wouldn't be talking about Sanic or Kneckles anymore if Fringe found a Kaos Emerald.

Except they been caught in the act, sudden search light finding their sneaking figures despite how much they fit with the shadows' edge, a warning bell going off in the facility. With no other thought but Brink in his head, Fringe had told him to get out of there and he was capture on Prison Island for a full three days. The only reason he escaped was because Dr. Eegman had broken out of the prison that day, and Fringe had used it as his chance to exit. More than Eegman hated people using him, Fringe didn't like the idea of using Eegman- he needed a Kaos emerald.

"Do you have any leads?" Fringe walks around Brink, looking for some sign of the two girls that would usually interrupt them by now. Where are Haze and Shade?" being alone inside the base with Brink made Fringe more nervous, he tries to keep his hands busy by rubbing a kink out of his left shoulder.

Fringe would even provide Shade right now, who was a little quiet, but she got interested in the strangest stuff- bugs, bubble gum, zippers, lasers, clocks, birds, she was even interested in another hedgehog right now. It was strange, because she was creepily quiet until you asked her about her particular interest that week- where she would know the strangest facts about them. Now that she was interested in this hedgehog it was kind of creepy, the stuff she managed to collect on a hedgehog he hadn't even heard about. What was his name? Shydew? Shidu? Sheedew?

Fringe brushes off the thought, focusing on Brink.

Without any explanation,

"Worried?" Brink said in response to Fringe. "Not really, I knew you would get out," Brink tried to say confident. He didn't want Fringe to think he was some sort of coward. Regardless of what he said though, he was legitimately worried he wouldn't see Fringe again. "I mean, I was somewhat worried at first when BULLET robots were taking you onto their flying ship," Brink corrected his statements blushing slightly.

Brink looked away from Fringe when he came to put his hand on his shoulder. Nervous from the contact he said softly. "But I am glad you are back, still..."

Fringe was quick to move beyond greetings and was wondering where the girls were inside the base. Fringe had been gone for two weeks, surprisingly short for being sent to a maximum security military prison, but he wasn't around when Haze and Shade had their spat. It was apparently 'girl-talk', that's what Haze told him. Brink just shrugged at the remark. "No, I don't have any leads at the moment. Haze is gone, Shade made her mad or something. She wasn't going to wait around for you. Shade is further inside the base."

Reaching out for his hand before he walked too far away. "You didn't tell me, how did you escape from Prison Island? I mean you are good, but you aren't that good."

No time for relaxation,

When Brink admitted that he wasn't worried about Fringe, he was a little disappointed in response but didn't try to show it on his face, feeling a little hurt that his bo- his friend, didn't miss him as much. Fringe probably thought they were better friends than they were- it was probably better for him to disengage now before he misunderstood something. Although the younger boy kept his hopes up by saying he was worried when the BULLET robots were taking him away.

"You saw that?" Fringe was mildly embarrassed, remembering how he was treated on the ramp up to the military vessel that carried him over to prison Island. He scuffed his shoe against the floor, trying to avoid Brink's eyes as he went into Haze getting mad at Shade before she took off, decidedly not waiting around for him. Fringe had a love hate relationship going with Haze, who was always particularly cool to him. The relationship he never fully understood was the unsaid bond between Shade and Haze- they probably had a fight without any real confrontation.

When Brink asked him about Prison Island, Fringe turned away from the conversation as best as he could, "It's not important, let's go find Shade and those Kaos Emeraldz" he tried to smile as best as he could. Fringe didn't want to reveal the truth of how he got out to Brink, feeling embarrassed for tagging along behind Dr. Ro-boto-nik of all people. Shade would take his mind off of it by spewing more stuff about Shedow.

Don't, don't,

Fringe almost sounded embarrassed at Brink's response. However he quickly pushed his questions aside. He was interested in finding Shade and the Kaos Emeraldz. It was a bit suspicious but Brink ignored it. It made sense to him, after all Fringe hadn't seen Shade in sometime and the other hedgehog was arrested trying to steal the Kaos Emeraldz from Central City. So Bring nodded and led Fringe away from the former hangar to the old base of Dr.Ro-boto-nik.

"Haze was able to take the Kaos Emerald," Brink said to Fringe as they walked along the slightly flooded tunnels. "She wanted to 'thank you' for causing a distraction with GUN. It allowed her to slip by, I think that is why they locked you up so quickly on Prison Island." Brink wouldn't typically talk about Haze's accomplishments as they got Fringe mad but this time he did because she promised to give them the Kaos Emerald. "I mean it isn't too bad, next time you won't have to worry about getting caught. You can just dash with the emerald or something. Sanic was apparently able to do it."

Don't, don't,

Fringe rolled his eyes when he heard that Haze took the Kaoz Emerald during his 'distraction', it was very like her to take the glory that he was aiming for. The conversation to get it back from her would be fun to say the least, knowing that the haughty girl would probably make him beg before he even touched the stone. Asking Shade to get it back for him might be the best bet, as Haze responded better to her than any of them. Brink was still trying to make light of the situation, assuring him that next time he wouldn't be caught.

Fringe smirked at Brink, "You can bet they won't catch me!" he sneers, fake-punching the air in front of him as they came up to Shade's room. The girl actually lived in an old food cellar of Dr. Eegman's base, using the shelves as barricades to square off sections of her room as well as store some of her items. The door was slightly ajar when they got there and Fringe didn't notice the wind coming from the crack before it was too late.

When he pulled into the room, Shade was there alright, but passed out in the hands of Dr. Ro-boto-nik, who immediately started laughing upon seeing Fringe. "You think you can use me? The great Dr. Eegman!?" he's sneering already, and fringe wastes no time acting, racing towards him until a robot crashes through the same wall the Doctor must have come in by. Some of the rubble knocks Fringe off his feet, semi-trapping him as Dr. Eegman cackles, Fringe's demise is set in his mind. "You're too fast!? Now look who's trapped!" he raises Shade above his head, passing her off to a flying robot who rocketed the girl away.

"Shade!" he called after the girl, causing Dr. Eegman to turn and look at Fringe, and then Brink, slowly approaching the smaller of the two hedgehogs. Fringe immediately starts struggling, seeing that Brink was in trouble and Haze was too busy being a bitch to be here to help them right now. "Poor little hedgehogs, struggling in their defense" he grins a wide grin as the big robotic machine besides him starts powering up it's faser cannon.

don't blink, don't think,

The whole situation caught Brink off guard. Who would have thought that Dr. Ro-boto-nik would be able to break into his own secret base (like seriously who saw that one coming). This was there headquarters not Dr. Ro-boto-nik. Haze was supposed to make the place more secure than that, but who knew if she actually accomplished what she set out to do before leaving. "Shade!" Brink called out mimicking Fringe. The poor rabbit was rocketed somewhere distant by one of the Eegman's evil henchmen (though being robots, they had their evil programmed into them).

Eegman though did not attempt to escape, his attention was focused onto Brink. Taunting him with threats. The mad scientist already believed he secured victory. "Where did you take her?" Brink asked the scientist only somewhat intimidated by his encroachment.

"Silly hedgehog," Eegman said. "Like I would tell you of my ingenious plots. However because you probably lack any intelligence at all, you must only look above us," the scientist pointed upwards to the sky through the giant hole that was made upon his goon's entrance (clearly revealing his plot). Brink wasn't directly above the hole but he could still see a large air-ship in the sky.

Three more gigantic robots fell down through the roof behind Fringe and Brink. Brink turned to face them. They were surrounded. Eegman just cackled. "Well we've bought enough time here," he said. "The scanner I stole from GUN has notified me you lack the emeraldz," as he began to start his rockets in his own pod he ordered his robots. "Finish them, I have no use of bringing them alive. They'd be a liability... Bring back their corpses and I will upgrade your evil intelligence units."

Just go, go,

Brink was the calm one in the situation, asking where Dr. Eegman took Shade whilst Fringe's anger built inside him, pinpointed at the doctor who took their friend away. It was a nefarious plot, and it was only made worse by the taunting that went along with it- as if Eegman's plan really was that ingenious (what could Shade do anyways?). The man escaped before Fringe could react, telling them to simply 'look above us' before exiting through the hole he came in.

Fringe looked up only to see three gigantic robots drop in from above and surround them, allowing Eegman to escape with a cackle, making sure that he got the last word. It was something about a scanner her stole from BULLET (probably why he was on Prison Island) telling him that there were no Emeraldz there. It took Fringe a moment in his anger to realize this device was exactly what brink and himself needed to find the Kaoz Emeraldz and that he would need to steal it from Eegman (or maybe BULLET).

Eegman's final order were to finish them, leaving Brink and himself facing off the gigantic robots, watching the lights behind their eyes turn a bright evil-red. It was a killing order, and Eegman promised them a chance at an upgrade if they did complete it, it was too bad that Fringe wasn't going to give them a chance (after a fight-scene of course).

The robots charged into the center of their circle, directed towards Brink and Fringe. The latter of which grabbed his companion before taking off, dodging in between the robots by racin' through them. It seemed Eegman's robots were updated (again) because they had a better range of motion, the scoped on their head immediately turning and focusing on Fringe and Brink before their bodies were quick to follow.

"Get somewhere safe"
Fringe embraced Brink worriedly against his body before shoving him off just as quickly (no homo). Before the moment was over, bullets started to fire in their vicinity, phaser beams of power as the robots locked onto to Fringe, who dodged between everything they threw at him. As a ploy to trick the robots, he weaved in-between them, making them shoot each other in mistake with every bullet that missed him.

This would be done in no time.

go, go,

Brink was knocked off of his feet by Fringe (no homo). He was surprised by how quickly Fringe moved towards him. The embrace and the shove by Fringe sent Brink several feet back but he managed to stay on his feet. The action, while a bit rough ( :hhhehehe: ), was life-saving as the EegBots were quick to unleash their full arsenal where Brink was once standing.

Fringe sprinted into danger as he usually did. However Brink was not interested in staying on the sidelines this time. The two hedgehogs were surrounded and even though Fringe ran in-between the two of the three heavy fighting robots causing them to fire at one another, the two were not so easily destroyed. These were upgraded units of Eegman's robot army. The conventional rounds they fired only appeared to dent their armor. Fringe's tactic wasn't completely worthless though: one had a damaged eye and the other dropped its weapon.

Within seconds of all of this, Fringe was now across the room (so fast). Brink didn't have much time to admire the feat of speed by his friend. Two smaller EegBots (like the one's that originally captured Shade) were now pursuing him their movements enhanced by jetpacks. All while the last of the three heavy Robots was preparing something special.

This third bot was different than all the others, it was larger and when it opened its chest cavity it showcased a powerful laser cannon. Charging the beam, it seemed to aim straight for Fringe.

"No!" Brink shouted as he lifted up his right hand that started to glow. Telekinetically Brink pushed one of the jetpacking robots backwards towards the larger cannon-bot.

go, go

Fringe's plan had worked like a charm, the robot's were engaged in friendly fire and it was a laughable situation. Except Dr. Eegman did not leave them with conventional Eegbots, they were upgraded in a way that the rounds only dented their armor. Not to mention they seemed a little bit faster, making this racin' around the room all the more tiring for the hedgehog.

It was like the Eegbots knew this, as he was soon followed by two of the same robots that had captured Shade, they jet-packed behind him (also fast). Fringe cursed, ducking a look behind him and suddenly seeing the bigger of the three robots open a chest cavity and reveal a laser cannon that would ultimately spell his demise. Except Brink was helping him rather than hiding (mere coincidence), he used his telekinesis powers to push one of the robots following him into the giant robot.

Fringe followed suit by turning on his heel suddenly and crashing into the other robot following him back into the robot's laser's cannon- both of the robots crashed and immediately lit into an explosion. The explosion took the laser cannon with them, and the charge overloaded the big robot into blowing up too (explosions!). Unfortunately, that still left the other two robots, and in Fringe's victory he forgot them, grazed in the shin by one of the bullets that the Eegbots fired.

Although the wound burned, Fringe realized he needed to keep going before Brink was hurt too. Despite the wound in his leg, Fringe tucked in and continued running around the machines, wincing the whole time. "You think something like this can stop me!" he taunted the robots- he wasn't even bleeding.

g-g-g-g-go, go!

Brink was amazed at Fringe's ability to skirt between the robots. A clever strategy that Brink came to expect from his other hedgehog friend. Through dashing and crashing and other nonsense, Fringe was able to have the robots run into each other and the large cannon Eegbot exploded (wow such pretty explosions). However the fight was not over, just as Brink wanted to give a celebratory thumbs up to Fringe, his friend was shot by the last two Eegbots.

Determined, they two mechanical units wanted to take both Fringe and Brink out. Opening fire with their machine guns arms, Brink was forced to retreat behind the wreckage of a fallen Eegbot. However Fringe was sprinting right between the very bullets. He's so fast, Brink thought to himself. He began to wonder whether it was possible for him to move at such speeds. Dangerous speeds.

Brink cheered on his friend but didn't just stand idly by, as the two robots began to separate as a counter measure to Fringe's strategy of encircling them. Brink started to use his powers once again. He was uncertain about them, speaking he so rarely used them but he didn't want Fringe to get further hurt. Mustering all of his strength, his hands began to glow a purplish light and he focused his attention to the wreckage he was hiding behind. Pushing it forward, the entire thing screeched as it was moved. Until, it was flung completely forward in a burst of energy towards one of the robots trying to fire upon Fringe.

With an explosion, the living and dead robot collided and that was the end of one enemy. There was now only one left for Fringe to finish off. "Come on, Fringe," Brink yelled to his friend from behind as his friend ran up to try and defeat the last Eegbot.

Sonic, he's on the run

The pain was easily ignored, partly in thanks to Brink, who continued to cheer for Fringe despite the injury to the knee. It was motivation, and it fueled into the anger he already had for the robots, who weren't just being destroyed - but hurting cute animals in the process. Leave it to Dr. Eegman to power his machines by the use of animals, but Fringe could only hope he gave them a quick and painless passing. After all, what's a life after you've controlled robots meant to kill harmless hedgehogs.

Fringe's current thoughts sidetracked him enough that he didn't notice the two robots preparing for their counter measure, slowly separating around Fringe. Lucky for him, brink noticed, using the powers he was gifted with (although Brink was good at other things) to push the wreckage he was hiding behind forward in a burst of energy. It had screeched across the floor but all Fringe had seen was his companion standing in his glory, the purple glow at his hands making Fringe's heart skip a beat. Not to mention that his powers had work, the wreckage had destroyed one of the robots and left Fringe with only on left.

skidding to a stop as he curled out of the ball, Fringe reversed his trajectory, his fist glowing a faint pinkish light as he powered it up. His knees were bleeding now, but Fringe's focus was on the robot in front of him - charging him to send a fist right through his chest cavity, blowing his whole body through with the speed. Behind him, the robot fizzed and futzed before blowing up, sending strange feathers flying everywhere. Fringe took a deep breath, realizing the battle wasn't over with the capture of Shade - "You did great, Brink" however, he could praise his companion for his great work for now.

Sonic, he's number one!

Brink blushed from the comments of praise from his friend. "You did great too..." Brink said to Fringe. "In fact, you were amazing." Brink was very happy with his friends success. He however was also aware of the fact that they did not save the cute animal creatures that were inside the robots. The dastardly Eegman was resorting to his older ways. Going up to the wreckage that was left, Brink almost forget about Shade's kidnapping. "These robots might be next generation robots based around the BULLET Robots. But I've heard how he uses animals as organic fuel cells. Damn Eegman!" Brink got onto his knees before the wreckage of one of the robots.

He was going to cry or something else like that but instead he was relieved when a squirrel crawled out of the wreckage. It was wounded but not dead. Brink immediately smiled and picked up the squirrel. Turning to Fringe, his expression was one of calm even though their friend was missing. However Brink wasn't too worried about Shade. She wasn't as tough as Haze but she was pretty fierce. Eegman would have a tough time with her.

Looking around at their once-base, Brink remembered that Haze had taken their chaos emerald without telling them. But more importantly the fact that Eegman was most likely keeping Shade in his flying battleship. "We gotta go rescue Shade," he said but realized the futility of that notion. Neither Fringe or Brink could fly and they didn't have any an airplane or anything like that... they would need to get help. Haze might know what to do but they didn't know where she went.
