Realistic or Modern Plight Of The Gods

ChoShadow

That One Fear In My Enemy's Eyes
((This is a private 1x1 RP between myself and mochuu mochuu . Please do not post in this thread. Thank you!!))

There exists a world beyond the sight of mortals. A world of Divinity and power unlike any the Earth or its inhabitants have ever known. A world of Gods.

In this world, the concept of a "God" has many meanings. Divine beings who don't bleed and cannot be killed. Enlightened beings who travel freely between "heaven" and Earth. And more. But reality is closer to the first belief, with Gods being Divine beings who cannot die and who do not bleed.

However their divinity is not infallible. It can and has been tampered with before in eons past in conflict with a collected evil presence known only as The Darkness.

Throughout several wars with the Gods, the Darkness has demonstrated the ability to temporarily rob the Gods of their Divinity and render them as mortals. It has helped them numerous times in the past to even the playing field, but always the Gods emerged victorious. So it has always been. So it shall always be...

Or at least, that was the commonly held belief of the Gods until recently. The power of the Darkness to rob the Gods of their Divinity was thought destroyed ages ago in the previous war between the two, but it is not so. That power survived, and it has been taken up anew by the Darkness in its quest to rid this and every other world of the presence of the Gods.

Their war has now ravaged the Higher Plane, the realm of the Gods, and has begun a chain reaction which will have a direct impact on the very fabric of this world's existence.

... Hachijin, a warrior of the Gods and one of the first to take to the field against the Darkness, was robbed of his power and sent to Earth by one of his comrades before he could be killed in his new mortal state.

And so now Hachijin journeys to Earth via the portal created by his comrade. He doesn't know who he will meet or when he will arrive, but he knows that his time on Earth will be dangerous for him and anyone else he comes in contact with which is why he will try to keep contact to a minimum. But can he do such a thing? Can even a God accomplish all of his goals?

Time will tell.

✩ ISHIKAWE YUME
"When was the last time you've actually done your work, eh, Yume?" An unamused, feminine, gentle voice echoed through the empty school hallway of the early morning. Not many arrive at such an hour, even for Yume herself it was plain odd. Waking up early never ended up being overly effective for her focus, instead, she spent most of the day trying to avoid making eye contact with the teachers whilst ensuring they didn't see her daydreaming, or catching a couple of minutes for a power nap during a dreary lecture. But on this fine Friday, the female had no choice. After procrastinating all week, she decided to finish up her important math assignments right before class would start. Yume was aggressively scribbling through her notebook, scanning her own paper, whilst also leaning in to look at what her classmate had answered. Occasionally, she would glance up to check wherever the teacher was coming, in which case she knew how to act in order to seem completely innocent.

This wasn't the first time she neglected her homework, and it wouldn't be the last. Luckily, she had Risa, a total perfectionist who couldn't sleep without making sure all her work was A: done, and B: stacked neatly into her backpack already. Somehow this young lady also managed to have a completely orderly pencil case, with small pockets for every type of stationery item. Her uniform was always neatly ironed, not a single fold visible on the clothing. Her hair was mostly tied back, not even the tiniest strand of hair sticking out. How would someone like Yume be best friends with such an idealist? A beyond imaginable friendship, as many would say.

"Oh shush it, told you I had other things to do.."
Yume mumbled silently. Judging by her furrowed brows and tense shoulders, she could barely contain the frustration from how much work she had yet to complete before entering that dreadful classroom. If it wasn't for the flock of students who had suddenly dived into the hallways, she wouldn't have taken as long, yet the bickering behind was starting to get frustrating. Risa let out a soft sigh with a light chuckle, crossing her arms as she leaned on the wall. "Like what? Shopping?"

"Oh pleaaaase, if only I had time for such luxuries.." Yume responded with a sign of misery in her tone. If there is one thing she totally despised, it was not having enough time. Despite she barely did anything over weekends, the female ended up never fully completing any of the important tasks given to her. To think that she once very much cared about her education. Where is that motivation at, Yume.. she'd ask herself that often, but the answer never seemed to arrive on her train of thought. She waited for her friend to reply with the same old sarcastic snort, but instead, got a flick on the head from someone behind.
"D-U-M-B-L-I-N-G HEAD~!" With a short eye roll, she turned around, only to see a tall figure of the one and only, Otoya. Otoya was a weird fella, a newcomer, and yet already one big ball of insecurity. A pure goodie two shoes. In reality, he was a very melancholic, fragile male who needed to put others down to feel much better about himself. The boy had his hair dyed dark red, almost burgundy, with streaks of white here and there. He didn't quite bother taking care of his hairstyle much, however made sure it didn't look totally wonky in the mirror every now and then. However, similarly to Risa, he made sure his uniform always looked top notch. Although he did get on her nerves, Yume was far too polite to snap at him.

"Slacking off again? Ah, what have we got heree.." The boy leaned in to look at her notebook, however Yume quickly slid it off the table and behind her back, standing up and shooting a quick glare at him. The math teacher was nearing the classroom, so another word, and it would be game over for Yume. "O-Otoya, this is really not a good time--"

"Oh yes it damn well is! LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE DIDN'T DO THEIR WORK! What a true, giant, slacker bum you are~" Otoya clicked his tongue, earning a few snickers from the boys behind. Risa and Yume exchanged furious glances, but it was far too late to reply. The teacher, who happened to walk past, averted her gaze at Yume, before mouthing those awful four words.

See me after class.

"Maybe next time you'll learn~" To end it off, Otoya stuck his tongue out, before disappearing into the classroom, leaving Yume dumbfounded, whilst Risa could only shrug. He had a point after all, she was one giant slacker, the entire high school knew her as, simply, "the sloth". Yume was used to being called up to the teacher's office every now and then, so this was no shock, but it could've been avoided if a certain someone wasn't around. "What's with him and trying to ruin my life specifically.." Yume mumbled as she packed her things, earning a pat on the back from Risa. "Dear, stuck-up snobs need to be avoided at all costs.."

--

The rest of the day went as per usual; running from one classroom to another, listening to teachers' monotonous voices, not quite understanding what was going on. Yume thanked the lord she didn't have physical education that day, it would've been complete torture, especially when the weather wasn't looking all that lovely. Raindrops have been hitting roofs ever since daytime, and now that she needed to head back home, it began to brutally hail. The pale sky darkened, street lamps already turned on despite it only being 3 pm in the afternoon. Clutching her black and grey school bag, Yume was waiting under one of the large trees halfway from her school to the neighbourhood where she resided. It shouldn't have taken too long before it was over. Despite finding refuge under the tree, Yume's clothes were already soaked, however, being at least somewhat intelligent, used the school blazer to cover her head and hair. "I-It's getting colder by the minute-- AHH!" Pushing herself to the tree trunk, the female shut her eyes as she heard the loud boom of lightning somewhere nearby.

Probably not the best idea to stand here b-but I've got nowhere else to go! Is it going to hit me?! O-Oh my.. Yume gazed up at the lush greenery of the leaves atop the tree, her only cover. They wouldn't cover from a lightning strike, however. Once again, she glanced down to watch as a puddle of water was forming adjacent to where she was, in a small ditch on the road. Squatting down, the teen propped her chin onto her head as she watched the scenery before her. There was a small field which the road went through, mostly covered with jade green berry bushes. The berries were edible, so little kindergarteners would come around to pick them out sometimes, especially on sunny days. Definitely not today, in fact, she hadn't met anyone on the street yet, oddly enough. Where were the other students? People? Perhaps they've all hid in their homes, but it couldn't have been this empty. It was eerie, in a sense, however Yume would need to pick up her pace soon before the dawn's arrival. How much longer..

The world around Yume was eerily quiet indeed, more so than it should have been. Typically this area had at least a few people wandering through even on the rainiest of days... But not this day.

What Yume didn't know is that forces were at work to make it so, and Yume was the sole exception which had been completely unintentional. An unfortunate miscalculation, and one which was sure to cause a backlash down the line. But there was nothing that could be done about it now. The process had begun, and there was no averting what was about to happen now that it had been set in motion.

Yume's world began going silent, in the literal sense, around her. No animals, birds, insects, car noises... Not even the sound of the rain was coming through anymore. It was as if the sound had been sucked out of it, and all Yume would be able to hear as time passed would be her own heartbeat from within her chest.

The air began to warm up. Slowly at first. A degree every twenty to thirty seconds at best. Nothing Yume would feel immediately. But soon, within not but another two minutes, the temperature suddenly rose considerably by almost thirty degrees which is something she would feel. What had previously been a dreary and cold evening was now a dark, wet heatwave. The rain came to a stop in her vicinity, but she was close enough to see that it was still going elsewhere not but a few dozen meters away down the street and on the roofs of the homes nearby.

Down the road, around one hundred feet away, the temperature rose even more and a hot shimmer appeared like that you'd see on a hot summer's day over the concrete streets. The temperature intensified further as a single random spark of electricity seemed to shoot out from the middle of the street into the sky for around twenty feet. Such a happening was sure to shock Yume momentarily, but more because of how odd it was to see such a phenomenon than anything else.

But it was what came after which would truly strike fear in her heart.

The empty street seemed almost to begin glowing as another spark of electricity shot out from the ground. Then another. Then another. It was as if the middle of the road a short distance away had turned into an active Tesla coil shooting dozens of random bursts of electricity up into the sky as the air began to superheat. The glow condensed and focused itself until it began forming a bright ball of white energy which the sparks of electricity seemed to curve towards. The ball increased in size from what began as the size of a pea to the size of a minivan over the course of about thirty seconds.

The sounds of this phenomenon were not deafening, but they were not insubstantial. The buzzing and sizzling sounds would hurt Yume's ears and begin causing a headache, but before long the noises subsided as the electricity came to a stop and all that horrendous sound was replaced by a gentle hum.

The world's sounds then slowly began coming back into play. First the sound of the rain nearby. The sound of cars in the distance. The sounds of birds and other animals and insects. All of them formed a soft chorus alongside that gentle hum from the giant ball of energy floating in the middle of the street.

Slowly that ball descended until the lower third of it disappeared beneath street level, and slowly it began to become translucent causing the outline of a figure to begin appearing from within. The ball evaporated and eventually disappeared, leaving what appeared to be a young man kneeling down with his hands on the ground to support himself.

... Putting the phenomenon which brought him here aside, he looked rather ordinary. His clothing was simple, though the designs in the fabric were rather ornate and almost tribal in a weird sort of way. He wore a light gray collared tunic top, a black leather belt, what appeared to be navy blue sweat pants, black boots which stretched halfway up his shins.

His hair was not terribly interesting. It was mildly spiked towards one side with the other being fairly well combed and neatly kept. His face was fairly handsome with a youthful but strong jawline, a fair complexion, and strong eyes which opened slowly to reveal a vibrant light brown shade to the irises.

His body was lean and well muscled, obviously a very fit individual. He stood up with a soft groan indicating that there was something causing him pain or, at the very least, discomfort. His right hand found its way to his ribs on the left side, and he let out a breath and looked around before spotting Yume nearby and he froze.

His facial expression told the story that he didn't expect to see anyone here... Yume's presence threw him off.

In his mind he was wondering how in the world he was going to handle this situation. She wasn't supposed to witness this. Whenever this happened, which was incredibly rare, measures were taken to ensure no witnesses to make the transition easier. But this?

... Part of his mind told him to run, and the other was too stunned to do anything.

In the end all he could do was remain silent staring at her and trying to think of a way out of this situation.

✩ ISHIKAWE YUME
Yume didn't quite notice as the noise around began to quiet down, but what definitely caught her attention, was that the rain was no longer audible. It was quite odd since it seemed to be fairly strong, yet without a single splashing sound along the puddles around the tree. At first, the female thought there was something wrong with her ears, thus deciding to lightly rub her left one, then the right, but that didn't help much. She grew a bit weary as there wasn't anything else that could cause this phenomenon. I've gone mad already.. And yet, it was only getting stranger from here. Suddenly, Yume felt kind of stuffy, which also didn't make sense. Only a few moments ago it was freezing, yet now the temperature fluctuated to flaming hot levels. The girl held her bag close to her chest, hunching slightly in a defensive position. There was a freaky feeling in her stomach, something was bound to happen after this, and the best she could do was probably run for her life.

Yet, the girl simply stood there, waiting until it all subsided. On one side, Yume was fairly curious, yet on the other, she would've felt much better at home right now. There were small sweatdrops along her forehead as the air became uncomfortably humid.
This is probably what hell feels like.. Before the girl could bat an eye, right on the road before her, electric sparks began to appear. Then a tiny ball that grew bigger and bigger in size, until a faint outline of a figure could be visible underneath. She gritted her teeth at the sudden buzzing noise echoed through the area. Her bag fell to the ground as Yume used both of her hands to cover her ears, it was impossible not to feel like they were about to explode with a ring this agonizing.

Thankfully it didn't last too long, and once the electric ball vanished, so did the buzz. Yume opened one of her eyes, then another, before putting her hands down and letting out a sigh of relief once the world around her went back to normal. The rain had stopped, the air cooled down, whilst birds began to chirp on the tree above. Now, all the female could see before her, was a human male, kneeling down on the ground.

There was nothing that seemed out of place about him, although his clothing did look unique, clearly not from her school. With her mouth agape, she stared at him, unable to comprehend how he survived underneath the giant sphere which engulfed him moments before. She was unsure of how to react either, the two of them stared at each other for a solid few minutes. Yume was searching for something even slightly off about him, and yet, he looked absolutely normal, nothing too out of the ordinary. Then, carefully, and very very slowly, Yume picked up her now slightly dirty bag from the ground, before approaching the mysterious boy.

She wasn't very hesitant about it, in fact, there was a worried expression on her features. The girl genuinely wanted to help him, as well as hopefully get a bit of information on who he was, or how he even got here in the first place. There was no way this was all a dream, right? Yume blinked a couple of times in slight suspicion, as if there was an undefined object before her rather than a simple human. Extending her hand, she knelt down, placing it on top of his shoulder.

"Sir, a-are you alright? I know this all happened very suddenly but..y-you were in the middle of a giant electrical orb or something..it was kinda scary..If you're hurt anywhere, I-I can call the ambulance!" Smiling nervously, Yume observed him more closely. He evidently had very sharp features, which did make him appear handsome, but his looks were the last thing on Yume's mind, he was in pain, she could sense it from the way he tensed up. How on Earth did he end up here...For all Yume knew, he could've easily been some kind of superhuman. Right when I thought today couldn't get any weirder..

No... No... No... This wasn't supposed to happen.

That was the only thing running through his mind, and it was on a loop.

The young man couldn't say anything at first. He only continued to stare at the girl who was now offering to call an ambulance to help him if he needed it.

At least she seemed nice, but still she wasn't supposed to see him arrive! How was he going to explain this? A major top-secret science experiment having to do with teleportation?... Well as bad as that sounded it was the only thing that even remotely seemed credible. Humanity wasn't yet ready for teleportation and even their brightest hadn't the faintest clue how it was done. But what else could he say?

Nice as she seemed to be, she didn't seem like she'd know anything about top-secret science experiments having to do with much of anything. Maybe he could get away with it if she asked down the line. But for now he had to address the situation because it was clear she wasn't going anywhere and there wasn't any kind of magic memory eraser he had at his disposal.

"I'm fine, miss. Thank you." He finally managed to say.

Aside from her seeing him he was fine anyway.

"You weren't harmed during what just happened, were you?" He asked.

✩ ISHIKAWE YUME
At first, Yume figured the male before her was too appalled to speak, thus another moment of silence fell between them. Perhaps he got an electric shock? Or even worse..maybe he was paralyzed? The female's expression only grew more worried. One thing she didn't want to see is people in pain. Her eyes scanned his figure from top to bottom, checking for more signs of harm, yet there was absolutely nothing. Then, he finally spoke up, which brought a sense of relief to the girl.

"A-A little scarred, maybe, but other than that I'm fine! I'm more concerned about you, though.." She explained, before getting up, offering him a hand so he could stand up as well. "Do you live around here? Where is your home?" Although Yume was certain she had never seen this man around the neighbourhood, perhaps he was a newcomer? But then again, he appeared right under the sphere, thus did it bring him over here? That would be considered magic, though, and she wasn't exactly superstitious or a believer in anything related to magic in the real world anyway. She swung her backpack over her shoulder whilst taking a quick look around the area.

Everything went back to normal, even the sky cleared up, not a sign of rainfall. The puddles evaporated, the leaves were no longer wet, they didn't even glisten in the faint sunlight protruding through tiny clouds.
Odd..very very odd.. Yume blinked a couple of times, furrowing her brows in confusion. All that occurred a few moments ago was quite..bizarre, to say the least.

She wanted to believe that the boy standing before her was a human, and yet something about the way he spontaneously appeared here told a different story..

The young man listened to the girl's response, which was a rather odd one given the circumstances. Most people would likely have turned to run away from him as some kind of aberration or strange religious devil or something. But to see this girl express concern for his well being was an interesting turn of events.

When she asked about where his home was, he addressed her concern for his well being first to give himself a moment to think about how to answer her later question.

"I'm fine miss. Thank you." He said calmly.

"I uh... My home is rather far away from this place, he began.

"Unfortunately there's no way for me to reach it at this point... But please don't worry yourself too much over it. It's not a problem." He replied.

Technically it was true. His home was far away, he had no means to reach it, but at the same time it wasn't a problem. He was here to recuperate after an unfortunate event which took place back home, and thus he needed to remain here anyway. Although finding a place to call home for the time being would be difficult, he had no doubts that he'd be able to figure something out.

✩ ISHIKAWE YUME
Yume continued to watch him with curiosity, tilting her head slightly the moment he mentioned his home was far from here. How could she not believe in magic at this point? Was that a tornado then, that brought him here? No..tornadoes don't look like that, I know that much.. What a plot twist, Yume didn't quite know what to think of him anymore. Perhaps he really did get wrapped up into some sort of void and then thrown over to here, into her quiet neighbourhood? She couldn't quite grasp it yet. Although the young man reassured her that there was nothing to worry about, Yume wasn't going to leave that easily. Sure, she may have wanted to lounge on her beloved couch right now, or do quite literally anything but her assignments, however how could she simply leave this guy stranded in a town he probably hadn't seen before in his life?

"..B-But.. you've got nowhere to go then! This isn't some big city, it's a small town, we don't have visitors much, so there aren't any hotels..besides, it would've been just plain rude if I left you here like that, who knows when that giant ball of doom might come back.." Quickly, Yume glanced over at the sky, noticing as small clouds began forming into larger ones.

"Ah, I know! You can stay here, in my neighbourhood, and we can figure out how to get you back where you originally came from!" Yume's eyes lit up, they always did when the girl thought she had good ideas up her sleeve. There were various people in her town, some would most likely welcome him with open arms, whilst others, the more intolerant, could potentially look down upon him..either way, he wouldn't have been able to find his way back all by himself, that Yume was sure of.

"I'm sure someone would love to take you in, and if anything, there's enough space in my home..I-I think, at least.." There were a few adults the girl knew which were kind enough to do so, their homes may not have been so big, but neither was hers. Yume decided it'd be best to see wherever others would take up the offer, somebody who seemed more "mature" and "trustworthy". She was a high school girl after all, living in a house all by herself, some would find it unusual.

This girl was very kind. That much was obvious. She was a little awkward in speaking with him, but that could have been shock setting in as much as it could have been anything else.

"You are most kind," he said quietly.

He looked around, taking in the lay of the land.

... This wasn't exactly prime territory for what he knew would come, but he would find a way to make the most of it.

"I presume to stay somewhere, even amongst the most kind of people, I will need to provide them with some sort of compensation. Either monetarily or via some sort of provided service. Do you agree?" He asked.

He knew enough about this place to understand that most people expected something in return for a kind deed. This girl seemed an exception as she hadn't brought up any kind of compensation for her offer to help him find a place to stay, and he didn't expect her to. She didn't seem the type. But most others? He couldn't be sure of them.

✩ ISHIKAWE YUME
The more the boy before her spoke, the quicker Yume grasped on to certain unique traits he had. It was his way of expressing himself which only heightened her curiosity about his origins. It was far too..formal, not something she'd expect from a male who looked around her age. That surely made it seem like he was from a far away land, perhaps a place she herself had never seen before..now believing in magic was absolutely inevitable. The female shook her head at his question, laughing quietly.

"Huh..Well, if you'll be staying here for quite some time until we figure everything out, perhaps the house owner I'll be taking you to will need a bit of help around their residence~! But that's about all, n-not much is needed, most citizens around here are very humble." Yume explained, before motioning with her hand to follow after."I know, I'll take you to Grannie Anda, she'll definitely have a place for you~" With that, she re-adjusted the bag on her shoulder gently, before making her way towards the neighbourhood visible ahead.

Anda was your typical sweet old lady. Other habitants residing in her home were two extremely fluffy cats, and occasionally a group of crows would come by too, which took refuge atop the porch during rainy days. Everyone loved her and she loved everyone, not many could compete with her level of kindness. Often, she would bring homemade pastries over to where Yume lived, having small evening chats every now and then too. Yume had her fingers crossed that she would welcome the young man over to her place..but much of her hope was crushed the moment she knocked on the old woman's door.

The lady came out with a large pot in her hands, a cat hanging off her neck. "Oh, Yume~! Nice to see you, not often you visit me~ And who's that behind you?" Yume ducked her head politely, before moving aside. "Good afternoon, miss. This is..ah..oh gosh, I'm such a scatterbrain..I completely forgot to ask you, sir!..what's your name?" The female whispered quietly so only he could hear.

The girl explained that most people who lived around here were humble people and likely wouldn't demand anything from him, though perhaps they'd ask for help around the house which was actually incredibly reasonable. Staying in someone else's home for mere housework was a boon and a half.

"Very well." He said.

The girl then led him through town, and it was quite the nice place now that he had taken the time to look at it a bit closer. Simple living. Animals. Clean sky. General calm atmosphere. It was nice. Very nice.

Finally she brought him to the 'Grannie Anda's" home, which was where she seemed to want him to stay. When she knocked on the door, an elderly woman came to answer. She was polite and seemed to know the girl, Yume, decently well. And it was then that Yume turned to him and asked for his name since she hadn't asked before.

"My name is Hachijin. It's nice to meet you Ms. Grannie Anda." he said with a bow.
