Patience is a becoming trait.
After much deliberation - during which most of my time was spent ogling at the array of other artwork posted here - I decided to share mine as well. Not an aspiring artist, for these were done two/three years ago, but I thought it a good opportunity to shake the dust that has been choking them lately, and showcase them here.

Please excuse the barren eyes, slipshod attire, and repetitive positions. Cheers!

Better than I will ever be at anime. Although I am skilled at art, I cannot seem to find creativity with my anime. I never really payed attention as to how to properly draw/sketch a character, so I wing it. I believe if I actually took the time to read my book, I would be so much better at it. For some reason though, I am not really ingenuitive with things like hair or clothing, and I never really find myself creating "orignal" looking characters either.

Anyways, your sketches are fantastic.

To help with creativity, perhaps compare the looks of different characters side by side to see how their features vary. As a visual learner this is what I tended to do, seeing how artists altered eye shape and hairstyles, and various clothing schemes. I preferred doing this with manga because there was more detail to look at. The more you expose yourself to different features, the better of an idea you’ll get. Even if you start with a generic hairstyle, that’s ok; try experimenting with it a bit. For instance: Bangs. Does the character have a part? Is it in the center, off to the side? And if it is on a side, which side?

Clothing is the same as well – pick a manga style you like, preferably one where they have multiple outfits, and see how they change it up. The artist I relied on for this was Arina Tanemura because that lady had a ridiculous number of outfits for her characters.

In the end find a style that appeals to you and then modify it to your own personal tastes and comforts. If anime/manga is a field you’d still like to explore, go for it.
:) Just be patient with yourself. I’m sure the art you’re able to accomplish blows mine out of the water, because if I try any other form of drawing it either A) borders eerily on anime or B)looks as though a kindergartner drew it.

Thanks for the post though, and good luck with the rest of your art!
:D
