Backstory: Devil Spawn, Creature, Monster, Beast, Vile Thing, the Tiefling has heard it all before.
Orphaned at birth without every knowing his parents, Litter, as they would call him, was put into an abusive orphanage in Mulhorand, who's proprietors was as belittling and degoratory as its inhabinants. Growing up was hard. While the other orphans would have beatings and go on days without food and water, Litter would recieve a tenfold of punishment simply because of being different.
He kept to himself and to his books, they were a way of him to escape the reality of his situation. He would dream of travelling to places pictured in his books, and hope that one day he'd come to see his parents, or atleast know where they are or even why they abandoned him.
This dream was quickly stiffled as the orphanage began to sell off orphans as slaves for the nobles. It is a well known fact that Mulhorand had an history of slavery, it was abolished of course, but look deeper into the crevices of the city and the black heart of this old empire is still beating.
Life being a slave is not much different to that at the orphanage. The name calling didn't stop. The beatings and abuse, ever present. Most of the time he grew tired and just wants to end it all.
But, one faithful night, it all changed. His savior came in a flash of brillant light in his dream, the harp's melody signifies her arrival. The Tiefling can see no physical form but the being introduces herself as Jubilation, a solar from the Upper Planes. The solar promises him of freedom and power and bids him to not be afraid, for all is right and good, to forgive, to trust, to aid people in the dark and to endure the suffering of life and hold true to goodness. Thinking he is unworthy of a blessing, especially to a lowlife like him, Jubilation bids him one last thing: to grasp firmly the reins of the world and tame it to his will. For once in his life the Tiefling had something.
"Within the light there is power. You can have that power. Just seal a pact." The blinding light comes closer, and closer. "There is light. Light can blind but the light can reveal, Magnus Incirion." It felt right. Those words felt right. He agreed.
He bolted awake, drenched with sweat. Fearing it was all a dream, his first instinct was to check in the mirror. He was still the same grey skinned Tiefling, one of his horns is still cut off from the orphanage, but his eyes, once red now a bright yellow, his black hair now has shocks of white - the marks of his patron. With his renewed strenght and vigor, he got the courage to escape the noble's manner - while getting a little trigger happy with his newly aquired powers resulting in broken antique vaces and windows - and finally, Mulhorand.
He would hitch rides with caravan merchants, he would help out in many ways that he can but mostly healed them whenever they got sick, and in return the merchants treated Magnus as their own. Little by little he grew out of his shell and became curious and charismatic. They eventually arrived in Daggerford and said their goodbyes.
It was here that Magnus Incirion felt truly free, he had the whole world to explore just like the pictures in his books. Promising to help out the oppressed just like him, it was here that Tiefling must forge his own destiny and start anew, to grasp firmly the reins of the world and tame it to his will.
The Pact: Jubilation saw that Magnus still has a good heart despite of suffering terrible things to him, and because of this she chose him to make a pact with him. She saw that his inner light would soon be extinguished and decided to reignite it again.
He would serve as the direct hand of Jubilation to spread the light by helping the downtrodden and eradicate those who take away freedom of others even when that would compromise the his safety or the quest at hand. Although other Celestials cannot comprehend even small acts of selfishness, Jubilation occasionally sees the need to make a tough decision for the greater good of her ethical cause: to challenge oppression in all its forms where they find it and to go forth and perform acts of good to curb the increasing tide of evil taking hold of the world.
