Backstory:
It's hard not to look at the colorful visage of Magnus Lathakiir as he walks in, well, mostly any establishment. Even though he’s usually with his dark traveler’s clothes, the deep purple mask over the upper-left side of his face makes him stand out in a regular crowd, contrasting with his copper skin and blond hair. However, he wasn’t this confident about his appearance his whole life.
Magnus grew up in the village of Oakenhill and spent his very early years playing in the vineyards that surround his hometown, and lived with his mother Diana, a hard-working human who had a small pottery business, and the only relative he ever got to know. The rest of the village excluded him for being one of the “half-bloods” that were born every other generation. His mother did everything she could to make sure that her son would have the best life possible, but the social pressure and his friendless upbringing made him a shy boy who was afraid of being in the spotlight. As Magnus got to his teenage years, his mother fell terribly ill, perishing soon afterwards, and so he had to find his own way through life. To escape this place that criticized him for his bloodline he hopped in a band of itinerant merchants, entertainers, and the like to try to start anew.
This specific group was perfect for the fresh start the boy was looking for, all kinds of people traveling together for different reasons, artisans, smugglers, refugees, entertainers, hunters, all working as one piece, and the status of outcast applied to all of them regardless of their trade. Making use of his years of trying to go unnoticed, Magnus got close to a group that practiced “not completely legal” activities.
Throughout the many years he spent with the band of travelers, he took part in every possible scam imaginable, marked decks, impersonated nobility, smuggled some goods in and out of cities, as just a few examples. It was, although not the easiest life, a very interesting and rewarding one. In this group Magnus met Jasmine, a hundred-year-old halfling, his best friend and mentor, she was an exceptional storyteller, and managed to weave the magic of the world using solely her words. After many years of friendship and studying on the side, the half-elf managed to start getting the hang of this “ancient fey tradition” of sorts (or “speaking to the magic” as he likes to call it). This long period of time at the group helped him build a confident and charming personality, usually the center piece in his cons, making him unrecognizable as the same shy boy who hid his pointy ears.
As once mentioned, this thrilling lifestyle wasn’t the easiest one. The shadiest part of the traveling group has had its fair share of unfriendly, to say the least, encounters with thieves’ guilds, town guards and everything in between. One of the most memorable one was the group’s attempt to pickpocket whom supposedly was a wealthy diplomat, after many drinks and a lot of chatter, the diplomat reached for his coin purse and couldn’t find it. With a quick shout, they were surrounded by a bunch of patrons wielding daggers and crossbows. Apparently, the wealthy diplomat was the cover for one of the commanders of a thieves’ guild, who was in an infiltration mission. Unsurprisingly, he wasn’t that happy realizing he was being scammed, and captured the party to teach them a lesson. With his trained eyes, he recognized the halfling woman as their leader and killed her outright. The group was enraged after her assassination and attempted to fight off the criminals. The fight went south fast, and, in a moment of self-preservation, Magnus fled the scene. That fight scarred him. Now, with an acid burn around his left eye, that turned his skin to a dried red, and the image of Jasmine’s and his family’s death marked into his memory, deeper than the acid ever could.
Magnus came full circle, alone again, at last. He has been since wandering around the city, getting into and out of jobs, running one or two old scams but it’s not the same. It’s not the same without a bunch of misfits to bond with. It’s not the same without being part of something, being truly useful. And the search continues…

I did not see anything here as incorrect.

Reading over this backstory, I don't see anything that sticks out as needing fixing. Covers the basics of who the character is, their experiences, and what they're looking for. Good job!
