Age: 24

Race: Human

Affiliation: Union Navy

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Bisexual

Theme Song:

Appearance: Paige has a very youthful appearance in spite of her age, and many believe she's around the age of 18 or 19 just at first glance because of this. She stands at a height of 5'10, which is taller than most women, with a light athletic build and Caucasian skin. Her notable facial features include that of her medium-length white blonde hair, and her grey eye color. There's very little scarring across her body with the exception of large surgical scars on the back of her head due to the various operations to install psionic powers into her. These scars are large, and would be very noticeable if Paige didn't grow her hair out to cover them.

It should also be noted that Paige is in extremely good physical shape. While not at body builder's physique, she is muscular and has very little body fat due to a combination of natural athleticism and the rigorous training that astronauts must go through.

Her attire consist of three outfits: Her casual attire, work attire, and her space suit.

For Paige's casual attire, she simply will wear a long sleeve shirt of some sorts that may either fit just right or be a size too large, with the sleeves rolled up. Color & Design varies. For pants she'll usually wear tighter fitting pants, or even just leggings. Depends on the day, the occasion, and the mood. Once again, color varies. Finally, for shoes she simply wears bright colored sneakers of some sort. If you haven't guessed it yet, color varies.

Work attire, when in the lab is a semi-formal outfit. This attire normally consist of a simple light blue jumpsuit her name displayed on a glowing name-tag. While not the most fashionable of sorts, it's meant to be of use both as something that a lab coat could easily be slipped over, and something that could easily slip into specialized suits.

Last but not least is Paige's 'Hazardous Environment Suit', also known as a space suit. This is the outfit shown in the picture above, and it's top of the line technology. Meant for the exploration of hazardous areas, this suit model values protection above anything else. Based off of early flight suit models, the wearer is given a more compact, armored helmet with a built in computer system, rather than the open bubble-like case earlier astronaut suits had. This is to ensure protection, and the rest of the suit was designed for this purpose as well. Built with a very light yet extremely durable metal alloy, this is top of the line union tech at its finest. Magnets are built into the boots for walking along spaceship hulls, jet propulsion outlets are located in multiple parts of the suit to ensure easy zero-G movement. Lastly, the suit is colored with the bright shades of white and yellow to make sure the wearer is very easy to notice. Of all of her outfits, this one is Paige's personal favorite.

Birthplace: Melbourne, Australia

Profession: Astrobiology: Paige is a biologist who studies Alien life rather than the terrestrial life of earth. This gives her the combined duties of both a biologist and an astronaut.

Psionics or Cybernetics: Psionics. Paige has the abilities of making neural connections with those around her. More specifically, Paige is capable of linking herself to the minds of any conscious being, whether it be man or animal. When linked, Paige can interpret the emotions of the individual, and even replicate them. Furthermore, she can also communicate telepathically regardless of language barriers. Her powers are not to be confused with mind controls or mind reading however, as while Paige is capable of transmitting emotion, she cannot bend wills, nor read thoughts. During her connection she may catch glimpses of a persons past, but cannot read what they are thinking. These random glimpses are largley due to the immaturity of her abilities, and she has no control over this.

Equipment: Hazardous Environment Suit - As explained in the appearance category, this is a specialized space suit meant for survival in even the harshest condition. It's built to protect from things such as water, the vacuum of space, and extreme hot and cold temperatures. Made from a very hard metal alloy, the suit values user protection above all else. Built inside of it is a computer system complete with various databases.

Field Master Kit: A small, thick tablet, roughly the size of a small laptop. This tablet acts as a master tool for most scientific pursuits, as it's able to record data logs, chart graphs, record and scan samples, sort through data bases, etc. Built into the sides are various tools, which include a syringe for taking liquid samples, a small container for physical samples, and a precision cutting tool.

Character Skills/Flaws
Character Skills: (Advantageous Skills not related to your powers)

  • Major Skill 1: Communication - Paige can talk to anything with mental capabilities, so long as she makes the neurological connection with them. While she cannot verbally speak any language, when she transmits her messages they are sent in receiver's natural language. The same rules apply to messages sent back, which can be done so long as there is the mental connection. There are limits to how effective communication can be however. For example, Paige can communicate with animals, yes, but the effectiveness of communication is also dependent on the cognitive abilities of the organism. So when speaking mentally to something like a dog or bird, only simple means of communication can be done. Conversations will consist of small phrases and simple wording, and will only cover simple ideas. But when mentally linked to something with a much more developed brain like a dolphin, or a great ape, there's more communication capabilities. More complex subjects can be discussed, along with an enhanced vocabulary. (In case this is confusing, to dumb this down a notch: Smart beings can have smart talk with Paige, and dumb beings are only capable of dumb talk).

  • Minor Skill 1: Educated - Paige is a scientist at heart, and has years of schooling and training under her belt. Because of this she is very knowledgeable, observant, and efficient at learning things quickly. Whether this means taking soil samples, cataloging a new life form, or adapting to some dire situation, Paige is more than capable of doing so.

  • Minor Skill 2: Physical Conditioning - Paige is in top-shape due to a combination of her natural athletic abilities and Astronaut training. She is very fast, very strong, very well balanced, flexible, and has very impressive cardio. Her natural resting heart rate: 34 beats per minute!

  • Minor Skill 3: Mental Endurance - Not only is Paige physically conditioned, but she's mentally conditioned as well. This is one thing that cannot be trained. Paige is extremely tough mentally, and giving up is just not in her nature. As a result, Paige is not easily phased by things such as pain, difficulty, and sometimes even fear. When she puts her mind to something, she'll do what she needs to get results however she can.
Character Flaws: (Things your character is unskilled in, things that are ether their weaknesses or limitations.) You need to have 3 minimum flaws but you can have more if you want.

  • Disadvantage 1: Pacifist - In spite of serving in the UEF Navy, Paige is simply there for the means of science and discovery. Violence she does not like, and avoids by all means possible. This does not mean she will not defend herself when attacked, but due to her attitude she is much less effective in combat than that of a typical soldier.

  • Disadvantage 2: New To Psionics - This thing about having Psionic powers is relatively new to her. Yes, she did go through proper training for it and she does know how to use it. However, she only recently had her Psionic abilities installed to her. It wasn't that long ago that she was still in the testing facilities of the UEF. In practice she's confident with her abilities, however she's had very little experience in the real world using them or dealing with the possible repercussions of them. Over time, this will improve. (Don't know if this one works for a disadvantage or not since it's sort of temporary)

  • Disadvantage 3: Mentally Scarred - Unlike what many think, the process getting Psionics is no easy feat. There's a lot of pain, danger, and fear involved in getting them. The Psionics program that Paige went through was no exception to this rule. While in the Psionics programs Paige went through a lot of physical and mental pain. She made a lot of friends in the program, as will be explained in her bio, and she lost nearly all of them throughout the program. Furthermore the physical pain she went through is unprecedented, and would drive most to suicide. Both of these terrors, however, are dwarfed in comparison to the horrors of feeling your brain rewiring itself to accommodate the new powers, to experience herself loosing her mind temporarily as she had to put the pieces back together. Paige will never forget the horrors of Project 13, and she nightmares to this day because of this. At times the recurring memories of Project 13 make her extremely emotionally unstable.
Known Associates: (WIP)
Personality

Fears: Thanatophobia - Paige is very afraid of death and the idea of it. You could say it's what drives her to never give up.

Atychiphobia - The fear of failure. Failure is not an option. She fears failure, and the consequences it brings.

Optimism vs. Pessimism:
Naturally Paige is very optimistic. She tries making the best out of any situation, and while her attitude isn't always positive and gooey, she'll never tear anyone down unless necessary.

Introvert vs. Extrovert: Paige is much more of an extrovert than an introvert. While not a full fledged extrovert, she prefers to be in the company of others where she can have active discussion on just about anything.

Justice vs. Mercy: Naturally Paige leans toward mercy, as anything with a cognitive mind that can change its ways should be given a second chance.

Feelings on the Union: Paige supports the Union actively. One might even call her a patriot.

Common Mannerisms: One of the things people will notice first about Paige is how tidy she keeps everything. Everything she keeps clean and organized, from her room to her appearance, she never lets one detail get away from her.

She has a very noticeable Australian accent.

Paige likes to use big words when talking about things related to science. Prepare to be confused.

Whatever animal it is, she'll probably tell you a fact on it. Just so she reminds you she's a scientist.

Paige also enjoys very intimate discussion. It's not uncommon for her to ask very personal questions, as mentally linking to someone is a very intimate thing to do.

Interests & Hobbies: The most obvious interest of Paige is in biology - Animals and Aliens to be more particular. She loves learning everything she can about animals of all shapes and sizes, terrestrial or non-terrestrial.

Believe it or not, Paige is also very interested and involved in sports. She regularly follows her favorite sports, which include: Cross Country, Track & Field, Olympic Swimming, Boxing, and Mixed Martial Arts. Paige is even fortunate enough to have competed on the professional level in swimming, before she completed her academics and entered astronaut training.

While she's never taken up any professional courses, Paige also has a fascination with the mind, and how it runs and operates. She's even considered going back to school to get a minor in psychology.

Overall Personality: Persevering, kind, and curious. These are three words that describe Paige. She always goes out of her way to be kind to people, no matter what. She puts other people before herself. Bad mouthing for her is very uncommon, and she'll only do it in rare circumstances. Going along with this is her will-power. She's very optimistic, and rarely gives up. Rather then ignoring them, Paige tends to deal with her problems the best way that she can. Her most notable trait, for better or worse, is her curiosity. Paige seemingly wants to know everything. This is what drives her through her profession, and this is why she's so intimate. It's also why she's very nosy when it comes to other people.

She has more flaws. If one called her elitist, in a sense, they would not be wrong. While personally Paige would never put herself above others, it doesn't always come off that way as she's very quick to judge others. Paige is also a notorious over-achiever, always striving for perfection to the point that it can become self-harming. While this isn't necessarily a flaw, Paige is also very intimate. In most of her interactions she's very personal and tends to take things to heart very easily.

Of all her fears, failure is the greatest. For some reason Paige just can't take failure. Whenever she doesn't get the outcome she wants, it's almost as if she's in pain.

History

History:
Paige J. Taylor was born in Melbourne, Australia as a single child to a loving family that was unusually old for having children. At the time of her birth her father, James, was 50 and her mother, Mary, was 40. This meant that growing up her parents were much more older than most parents. Health wise they were fine, it's just that with age comes physical limits. Paige was taught to be responsible since she could walk. Her mother and father always preached independence, as there were some tasks that they were simply 'too old' to do. So, Paige was notably independent since she was a child. Growing up, she went to a normal school and was an honors student; Praised by her peers for her desire to learn, and envied by her fellow students for her physical gifts. Not only was she a star student, but a star athlete as well.

Her physical gifts and achievements, for a while at least, out shined her mental gifts. Paige did many sports growing up, but the one she was the best at was Swimming. She broke all of her school records by the age of 14, and by the age of 16 she was a regular competitor at national swimming tournaments. When she turned 18, Paige's abilities would shine through as she was given the opportunity to help represent Australia in the San Fransisco Summer Olympics. While under the Union, technically nationality did not matter, the Olympics had evolved from just glorified games. They were now a means to honor all nations lost by the Tha'Kar invasion, and for everyone to forget about the trouble's of the world if only for a bit, and focus on the glory of the human spirit.

At the Olympics, at least in the women's swimming events, Australia shined. Paige took gold in the Women's 800 meter Freestyle Race, as well as in two of the team relay races. She didn't break any world records, but she did get the gold in all three events she qualified for, and that was good enough for her. At this point she could have stuck with swimming and just have became a professional Athelete, an entertainer of sorts. But Paige had no desire for that. Opportunity knocked, and she answered.

Following her achievements at the Olympics she was given a full-ride athletic scholarship to her University of choice, where she achieved her degree in Astrobiology while under the UEF Naval Officer's program, essentially killing two birds with one stone. This may seem weird to those not familiar with the field of Astrobiology, but this is a very common move for Astrobiologist, which 98% are employed by the Union Navy. Why? Because it's common knowledge there is extraterrestrial life. The Navy wants to know all it can about it, especially the Tha'kar.

Paige successfully went through training, passed through with flying colors. At this point she was could have begun her work as a scientist...but then opportunity knocked again. This time however, this opportunity was unlike anything she'd ever been offered before. 'The opportunity to advance our knowledge of Psionics' was how it was first sold to her by her superiors. The Union had hand-selected 15 individuals that were deemed 'applicable'. With little hesitation Paige accepted, not knowing what was to come.

Project 13, it was called. The goal of it was to successfully integrate psionic capabilities into the 15 subjects. All of these subjects were mentally gifted as well as physically gifted. If anyone were strong enough to survive these experiments, it was this lot. Subjects, which included Paige were taken to a remote, classified location. Then everything was put in motion, and the most traumatic event of Paige's life began.

It started with a simple test. Scans were taken of each test subject's brain and recorded. Each subject were put through psychological tests, and they all passed. This was all the program was for a week, just simple scans and various test. At this point Paige had befriended most of the other people in the program, whose names cannot be disclosed at this time. Once all of the initial scans were done, the surgeries began. The first were not that bad, they were simply preparation surgeries. These lasted about a month, as the directors wanted to be certain they did not rush anything and that it was all done properly. By now, Paige knew everyone in the program and considered them all friends. In fact, she even went to describe them as family in one of her video logs. Things were running smoothly...at that point.

Everything changed once the implants were finally put in however. For starters, the success rate of the surgeries was much lowered than calculated. Of the 15 put through, 10 were lost in surgery. While Paige was fortunate that she was one of the 5 that survived, but their troubles had just began. The amount of physical pain she was in was almost indescribable. Her head felt like it could explode at any moment, and all of her nerve endings were on fire with all the signals shooting through them. Pain killers were not allowed as they would interfere with mental assimilation. So she just had to suffer through. This could not compare to the mental torment Paige was experiencing. With the implant, her mind essentially had been torn to pieces and now needed to be brought back together. For 1 whole week nothing made sense; there was only pain. There were no logical thoughts going through her mind, just random information firing off in all directions. It was recorded that Paige couldn't see anything, or have a sense of where she was. While she could hear, as shown by her reacting to sudden noise, she could not process sounds. Walking was impossible, and all food and liquids had to be injected into her. Scans taken at this time showed the entire brain flashing back and fourth like some sort of lights show.

With time Paige began to put the pieces back together. The first step was after the first week, by then her mind had pieced itself together to at least grant her ability to interpret sound again. Motor skills were still useless, any attempts to move when she was verbally told so resulted in random flailing. A few days later basic motor skills came back, and she could finally pick things up and chew on her own. Scans at this time showed much more promise as there was much less traffic bombarding the hippocampus.

Around this time her Psionic abilities were also beginning to show themselves. In spite of lacking the control to speak, she telepathically communicating with doctors. All these conversations were logged. After the first communication her recovery sky-rocketed. It seems that being able to communicate helped her make sense of things again. In just a day all basic functions had returned to normal. Paige still said she was 'cloudy' mentally for the next few weeks, but that eventually subsided. In total she was out of commission for about five months.

The remaining year in project 13 was spent honing in her abilities. Before then all her uses were simply by accident, caused by her surging brainwaves. This time period was particularly hard for her, once she became better at her mental connection. Feeling the pain and anguish of the others around her through mental connections caused her a fair bit of grief that overall lengthened her time in Project 13 by 4 months.

When it was all said and done with, Paige was the only subject to be allowed to leave the Project 13 facility. Of the 5 successful implantation subjects, 4 were lost. 2 due to suicide (Once they gained the mental abilities to do so) and the other 2 became brain dead, essentially their brains fried themselves out unable to handle the implant.

It's been 6 months since Project 13 ended. After 3 months of scans and psychological tests & therapy, Paige was finally given the all clear to leave. For the next 3 months she would be given a refresher period on her studies and training. Now that she's been released, the UEF have sent her to the station in order to investigate the Tha'Kar sightings.
