Lore for Otherworlds - A galaxy at war
In ancient times:
There was a race called the Malaxi-Atgal, or the Sky people. They were a very advanced genetically purified people. They would cast off any children that were not pure so they could not infect the gene pool of the Malaxi-Atgal. These orphans were Known as Terrans, or Earthly People.The Malaxi- Atgal eventually determined that they could no longer genetically perfect themselves, and looked to the next evolutionary step. To this that meant to become more like the more adaptable machines.
They genetically engineered heavy metals into their genetics, allowing for organic micro-circuitry to replace thier nervous systems, engineered hoer eyes to adapt and focus like fiber optics and lenses. Thier muscles were engineered to operate more like hydraulics, and their brains were altered to generate massive numbers of additional synapses, making their reflexes lightning fast and making them stronger. The Malaxi-Atgal saw what they had created and decided they were ready to take the final step in thier evolution. Their extinction. They allowed thier entire race to die out, one by one , until they were none left.
The Mecha were much like their predecessors, consumed by perfection, altering their genetics to make the perfect breeds. Over the next thousand years they eventually found the same problem their predecessors had as well. They could no longer evolve. They again looked at the machines, they were sacred to the Mecha, they were the answer as well. If they could be more like the machines they could evolve infinitely. The Mecha began to replace anything organic with cybernetics, arms, legs, organs. They took centuries to do so as their race adapted to the lack of organic material. Like those born blind, each generation was born with more and more machine adaptability.
Eventually they ended up with a breed of cloned brains that would be shielded in an armored housing and provided life support. This housing, or Mainframe, would fit into an interface housing in any machine with the adaptation built in, and they could control these machines as easily as learning to operate a new machine, or learning to drive.
The Mecha were divided when the option was brought to them about their own extinction. Many thought it was the natural part of evolution, many more thought it was inconceivable, that the race would naturally evolve naturally and that they were already perfect. Those that fought for extinction turned the machines, now called simply, "the Malaxi" on the Mecha, and started the greatest war the universe had ever seen.
The Mecha fared well the first few decades, destroying Malaxi cloning vats, and factories as fast as they were built, but the basic fact remained. The Mecha took years to grow and train as a soldier, and a Malaxi took only a couple years and was trained from birth to drive, and fight. They never experienced the organic senses , their every-sensory input was through electrodes stimulating the proper sensory parts of the brain through cameras, microphones, speakers, and other sensors. After the next 100 years the Malaxi took over the planet, and subjected the Mecha to persecution, evolving them into second class citizens. Through it all, the Terrans survived. Barely worth the time for a Malaxi to think the kill command, the Terrans rebelled and brought many Mecha into thier fight.
Long Ago:
Many Mecha and Terrans were to form terrorist resistance groups. They eventually formulated and escape plan and manufactures 1,000 sleeper ships in secret launch facilities all over the planet. They launched.
Of the 1,000 ships barely 300 escaped to the planets atmosphere. Of the 300 only 30 escaped the system. after chasing the remaining ships the Malaxi determined it was not worth the resources to follow them. They headed to different star systems in order to find a new planet to inhabit. Only 3 ships made it to any known inhabited planet.
The planet they landed on is called Praeton. A mineral and crystal rich planet inhabited by the Archon. The Archon were just getting to know their system when they found the sleeper ship. Reverse engineering the ships advanced their space program exponentially, and taught them to make Stardrives. Stardrives allowed them to leave their own star systems and search other galaxies. They used the sleeper ships starmaps to find the most favorable systems and began thier search.
The first world they found was Oceanus, the homeworld of the Thuul. A trade bades world where the world goverment was in place and the government was run by focus on diplomacy and trade. They welcomed the Archon with open arms and worked quickly to begin setting up trade routes between the worlds, setting the beginnings of Stargate technology.
The other races soon followed, the Proteus, Raptor and Draconi, and eventually the Sensates. Discovery of the Sensates were the second major event in galactic history following the Mecha Exodus. The Sensates warred against the other races who they viewed as unwanted invaders and reacted accordingly. They won almost every battle until the races finally formed a base on Avernus and was able to repel the Sensates. The Sensates retaliated with a tailored viris that would kill any living thing not from Avernus. The natural resistances of Avernus protected them. Over the next few years billions dies from the virus all through the galaxy.
The tide changed once again when the Proteus, a virus based race adapted to the virus and began to spread a new strain that the Sensates were not immune to. What followed was a race against time to create an antivirus for both strains. Hundreds of millions more died before the cure was discovered and implemented. As the Cure has to affect all races it had to carry genomes from all the races. The effect was as unprecedented as it was unforeseen. Approximately one third of the population of the races developed special abilities. The Archon, Proteus, and Draconi became more adept and stronger with thier abilities and the other races began to exhibit mutation, psychic abilities or the ability to manipulate dimensional energies.
After a period of adjustment the races decided to find the homeworld of the sleeper ships. They followed the maps back across a vast distance to the system where the world of Pacara was located. When they got there the third and final of the majotr events occurred. The Malaxi found they were not alone in the stars and immediately braces for the largest war in history. Many Mecha and Terrans were able to find thier way to the Races territoiries to start a new life, but the Malaxi followed them to their worlds and ravaged everything in their path. Both sides forming forward based, in some cases terraforming planets to make these based more defensible. Now the war has raged over 150 years, a society of nation sized star bases were built by the Terrans and Mecha so they would have a place to call home. On a star base called Habitat-14 a dedicated meeting place for the galaxies ambassadors has been formed. A galactic government , the Galactic Consortium,was formed to face the Malaxi threat. The GDF or Galactic Defense force was the military arm of the government.
An entertainment venue used by the military to pick recruits was set up. Designed to simulate warefare in every way but lethatity, this is called The GWF, or Galactic Warrior Federation, and alone generates over 10% of the Galactic Consortium's income.
Here you are, heroes of the GWF, known well on your home worlds as gladiators and champions in your fields. You have hacked, fought, healed, or talked your way out of everything the GWF has thrown at you. You have been approached by the military and given a choice. Continue and gain fame or join the military as an elite squad to face the Malaxi. You are offered a cruiser class starship and an armed exploration vehicle. to set you up, and the resources to equip the team for service. Are you Ready to fight the Malaxi and explore...
