Original Pokemon Creation Thread

Heya, all! Noivian here. I'm going to be setting up a Pokemon role play sometime in the future, but before I go about doing that, I'm going to need new, original Pokemon. This thread is entirely dedicated to our collective efforts making 100-150 new Pokemon based off the western USA area, which I will then use in a role play featuring said new region. I'll be drawing all the images myself, though images found elsewhere does greatly help. Ideas, suggestions, mechanics, stats, lore, movesets... anything helps, really! If you know anything about Pokemon, or want to make an impact in a future role play of mine, please comment below! Share your thoughts and ideas!

My current project is the region's water type starter, which I decided was going to be based on baleen whales and toothed whales. The line specifically utilizes the idea of a Dolphin Pokemon evolving into an Orca Pokemon, and then into a Blue Whale Pokemon. My idea behind the stats was that it would start out fast, and slowly get slow and tanky as the evolution progressed.

Right now, I'm caught up on names and stats, as well as movesets. Below is what I have so far for the base evolution. Obviously, the Learnset is Bulbasaur's, but that's because I took the coding for Learnsets straight from Bulbasuar's page on Bulbapedia. It's merely a placeholder for now: it'll be edited once I have a proper Learnset nailed down.

I was debating having this Pokemon start as a Water/Psychic, but after seeing all the other starters are just basic Water types, I decided against it. Thoughts? Opinions? Should this Pokemon start out Water/Psychic?

??? is a light blue Pokemon that resembles a dolphin. It has a beak-like snout curved into a smile and two forwards-facing turquoise eyes. Its underbelly is of a light blue-teal variety, that fades in from the sky blue of the rest of its body, this color difference present from the underside of the tip of the beak to the middle of its fluke, also coloring the undersides of its pectoral fins.??? also has a dorsal fin and a blow hole, the latter of which ??? uses to expel water for its attacks.

??? is a playful and childish Pokemon by nature. Thriving in open ocean and warmer currents, ??? stick together in groups called pods, creating safety in numbers. Older members of the pod look after and care for the younger members while their parents are away. It's not uncommon for large pods to be composed of multiple families, all living together as if they were one cohesive family.

There always seems to be a few droplets of water that follow it around, perhaps to keep it hydrated while in the air. ??? seems to be able to fly in air as easily as it swims in water.

((Pokemon will become Water/Psychic in future evolutions))

If anyone wants to take a crack at the code, please feel free. The left box is bothering me with the scroll bar and the gap between it and the center box. I'll put the code below.

Update: I've started working on the sketches of this starter's second evolution... but the more I look at it, the more I see Kyogre. Thoughts? Ideas? Should I scrap the evolution line and make the dolphin a non-evolving mon that isn't a starter?

Have Eevee "Faint" during a Sandstorm

Watch your deceased Eevee's Spirit possess the cloud of sand

the only established details i have of this particular eeveelution, design wise, is that it is a sand cloud in an eeveelution shape and that its limbs trail off like an incorporeal sand cloud or ghost.

Type: Ground

Ability: Sand Force (Rock, Ground and Steel Type Moves deal 1.3x damage in a sandstorm)

Hidden Ability: Sand Rush (Double Speed in a Sandstorm)

It's a good idea, having a ground type Eeveelution, but the method of acquiring one makes it sound more like a ground/ghost type...

Oh boy, fakemon! I periodically get really excited about the concept and I've made a bunch of designs, but it sounds like you mostly want to make your own? Good luck, making an entire region's worth of Pokemon with balanced stats and movesets is gonna be pretty hard.

Bulbasaur (edit: actually, Rowlet too, now that I'm thinking about it) is the only unevolved starter that's dual-type, so yeah, if you want to stick to Pokemon tradition, probably just keep it water until it evolves.

I always have ideas for names/designs/typings for new pokemon, but I'm not so good at the numbers/stats side or the dex entries. I'd be happy to give some suggestions

Man, I have no recent art of any of these mons :'D Here's something I sketched quickly:

Myxick and Myxterime, poison/psychic hagfish pokes. The circle markings on their sides are slime-generating organs, and they use psychic powers to manipulate slime into various shapes for defensive and offensive purposes.

Here's a list of unused type combinations as of gen 7 (fighting/ghost is incorrect because marshadow, but the rest of it, anyway), if that helps with inspiration any. I've also been thinking about a water/fire blue whale poke with barnacle volcanoes on its back, but I never got around to doing anything with it so you can steal the idea if you'd like.

i wish i could make it Ground/Ghost. but Eeveelutions are monotyped. so i had to make it a ground type with ghost type flavor. but i was inspired by the concept of a Spirit possessing a cloud of Sand. but there are Spirit flavored pokemon that aren't ghost types. but considering the movepool, ground was a better fit to keep.

@Noivian Ahh ideally I'd like to finalize everything myself before they end up in any projects (especially these two since they're my darlings), so maybe not right now, sorry ;; I'll definitely get back to you if any of that changes.

Eeveelution side note: currently, the types with eeveelutions are all the special types from gen 3 (plus fairy) except dragon. Maybe they'll add a dragon eevee to round out the set someday.

I'd be willing to come up with new ones myself, but I would do much better given a concept to run with and flesh out. I'll see if I can find some of my work to show my type of style, I think it would suit a pokedex image pretty well. Lemme know what you want, throw ideas at me and I'll give you dozens of concept sketches and you can tell me which ones you like best

can you Draw Terreon Too? it is a Sand Cloud Eeveelution. i was hoping it would have the Eeveelution charm while also hinting it would be a Sand Cloud?

I'll see what I can do, I'll admit I don't know how to go about that idea. I thought about how I would picture that, but it just doesn't strike me as being a defined eeveelution :/ I'll give it a shot though, I may change it from Sand "Cloud" to something similar, I just don't think the concept would fit very well with the style of Eevees past.

okies. the shape is mostly Eeveelution=Esque. but it is a cloud of Sand. as long as it is cute. i was inspired loosely by the Brendan Frasier Mummy Movies

Heya! Thanks for your interest! I'd love to see your take on my water starter concept, the dolphin on the first post. It doesn't have to be specifically what I've drawn, so long as it fits the description. Take as many artistic liberties as you want. I'm more interested in seeing your style.

Awesome, I'd love to give it a shot ^u^ I have some ideas relating to your evolution chain, I might do all three of them if I get particularly motivated XD Are there any features for them that you absolutely have to have? I wanna know what your emphasis is and what parts will be more developed later, like a theme, ya know?

The water floating being the dolphin. The water should become increasingly more pronounced, as the typing becomes water/psychic. The water is suspended by psychic power from the Pokémon and used to hydrate it while it flies (as the Pokémon also use their psychic power to fly in the air like they fly in the water).

I actually had an idea for making it a Water/Flying combo over time, but I can see the Psychic coming into play, I suppose. I'll draw them both up and see what I come up with, maybe they'll blend or branch out somehow XD
