The year is 3001, heavy set into a future plagued with war and famine. Our attempt at a technologically advanced Earth has crashed and burned, similar in fashion to the rotting satellites that hover above our atmosphere. After several spats between separate continents, resulting in six more world wars, the human population has been decimated to a mere two billion spread across the habitable areas of Africa and Northern Asia. Most anywhere else cannot support human life any longer, heavily infested with the remains of radioactive explosives and their aftereffects.

Technological advancements slowed to less than a crawl in 2763; there are occasional introductory items by private inventors that pushed out to market every ten years or so, but most inventing at this point is highly frowned upon. People used to dream of hover cars and laser guns, but today, they are comforted by thoughts of simpler days, where they didn’t have to fight off mutated animals and harsh weather patterns. Life has devolved from cellphones and the internet to makeshift tools and slum-like homes. Major cities have been mostly destroyed as well as interstates, or most roadways for that matter.

In 2998, the UNAS - United Nations Astronomical Service - announced that the rogue planet they had been tracking for many months was only 5 years away from colliding with Earth. As expected, this threw the remaining public into a panicked frenzy. The UNAS told them not to worry, however - they had a plan to evacuate. In a quick fashion, despite the lack of resources, 30 ships were put together, fitted for carrying one thousand people each. Boarding could only be assured by purchasing a ticket to the ship closest to your area. However, there are certain limitations on who could purchase a ticket. Any personnel with health issues, mental issues, criminal records, or are currently in a form of containment - such as prison buildings - are prohibited from boarding passage to the ships.

There’s a certain facility, Time Out Correctional Center, that holds some of the most insane and criminally active. Consisting of three blocks, it has now been abandoned all except for a single guard and all the criminals held inside. They are forbidden access from the ships, as stated above, but there’s been ideas going around. They know what’s going on, know they've been left to die - but what’s stopping them now from taking over a ship?

Hmmm, I'm assuming the players would have a wide variety of criminals to choose from, yes? Any limitations as to what they're in there for?

Yes, there will be many different criminal types to choose from. While I'm currently working on more options, what I have now is the Officer (possibly reserved by Homage - not an actual criminal), the Insane, the Dishonorable Discharge, the Serial Killer, the Thief, the Cannibal (reserved by me), & the Explosives Specialist. If none of those suit your tastes, then I am always willing to hear your ideas. In the original version, I did accept a couple of other roles. The only limitation is that it has to be bad enough to get you into federal prison - aka no petty thieves & kiddos in a fist fight.

Hmmm, I think I might have an idea for a character, I know it sounds like "Petty Thief", but how would a high-end Cat Burglar archetype fit in? Not above slitting a few throats, but mostly involved in thoroughly-planned and stealthily executed thefts and robberies of secure institutes and notable politicians, stuff like that?

Also, you said technology screeched to a halt in 2763, which is a considerable time from now for technology to evolve, what is available at the time of RP starting outside of the modern realm? I know you said lasers and and hover cars were off the table, but wouldn't more than 700 years be enough to develop technology along those lines or at least of similar complexity? Not trying to question your setting, just curious as to whether, say, exosuits and high-tech gadgetry is a thing or somehow it never got produced? I'm sure you'll have an explanation for why or why not it's been invented, just wanting to see what's available to build my character's methods and techniques off of :)

This, in technicality, would be the Thief role. The characters have no predesignated appearance, backstory, etc etc - it's simply qualifications for certain character types.

I needed a bit to think about this - the last time I went through this roleplay was maybe a year ago and it was simply an idea I pushed out without much thought put into it (you should've seen the first map of the facility - it lacked doors to the shower rooms and a pointless hallway.) However, I've given it some thought and here's what I'm going to utilize.

While the technology was available, many people, and scientists, government officials, etc, saw them as a waste of resources, inefficient, & hazardous. Most of the technology of the current 'verse-time' is in computer systems and AI, as well as space travel and, of course, weapons of war. It's not like they lack the resources or technology to make these items, they're just seen as heavily impractical and at this time in the universe, anything that is not absolutely necessary can't be built due to an overall lack of available resources. I'll have to write this down & develop it further in the thread.

{I also may or may not have been binge-playing Diablo 3 with my father, which is another reason why this answer was late xD }

Also, forgot to tag @MrWeirdbraxto because ehhggffs

I would like to note that I'm currently in the process of rewriting a lot of stuff for this, simply because the original writing is shit (to put it bluntly) but whatever.
