Factions

German Holy Reich

A totalitarian theocratic state by Göttlicherführer Adolf Hitler, the Holy Reich was spawned from the crumbling remains of the Third German Reich in the spring of 1945. With Germany split in half by the meeting of the western and eastern Allies, Hitler turned his undevoted attention into the study of the occult, searching for a final trump card to turn the tide of the war. On the 29th of April, the occult forces of Germany, in both newly arisen hordes of the undead as well as demonic hell-spawns, were unleashed upon the advancing Allied forces to devastating effect. Both Soviet and Western lines quickly crumbled into disarray, forcing a mass withdraw from Germany. Though successful in halting the invasion of Germany, Hitler was unable to control the demonic hordes, descending Germany into an apocalyptic nightmare. Alongside his most fanatical of supporters, as well as a cabinet of occult scientists and spiritualists, Hitler formed the Deutsches Heiligesreich, or the German Holy Reich. Though a relatively small faction, the Holy Reich commands a sizable military presence in Germany as they attempt to once more exert their will over both the people of Europe, and the demonic hordes.

Unified Allied Powers

Comprised of both the Allied powers against Germany, as well as remnants of the former German Reich, the Unified Allied Powers, or UAP, functions as the primary defense against both the Holy Reich and the demonic hordes. Led by a council of representatives from member nations, the UAP maintains a large presence in Europe, particularly on the border of Germany.  Fielding a militia comprised of both military regulars and civilian volunteers, UAP militiamen and women are identified by a bright yellow band worn on their armor bearing the white Allied star. Uniforms and weapons are chosen on an individual basis, most often dictated by a militia member’s personal preference, and available supplies.

Demonic Horde

Beings spawned from a dimension separate from our own, the Demonic Horde was initially summoned by the occult powers of Nazi Germany for the purpose of ending the Allied invasion. German hopes of controlling the creatures were quickly crushed as the demonic horde slaughtered all it encountered, both Allied and Axis, soldier and civilian. Though the horde consists of some unearthly hellspawns, the main driving force is the shambling undead, known most commonly as “The Afflicted”.

Bestiary

Afflicted

The Affliction stands as the most widespread force of the demonic horde. A virus-like entity, the Affliction renders those infected into violent, undead creatures hell bent on the consumption of flesh. Transferred from host to host via bite, the Affliction gradually takes over an infected person’s body and mind over a various amount of time, generally depending on the location of the bite, with bites to the arm taking a number of hours, while those to the head or neck can result in total infection in just thirty minutes. Signs of infection include blackened veins, cracked or bleeding skin, bloodshot eyes and a fever. No known means of reversing the infection exists, however, conversion can be halted if an infected limb is removed in a timely manner. The Afflicted are capable of receiving great levels of harm with little feedback, and the only confirmed method of elimination lies in destroying the Afflicted’s brain. The Affliction is capable of resurrecting the recently deceased, providing the brain is still intact.

Tainted

A subset of the Affliction, the Tainted are the most recently converted victims of the infection. Relatively human in appearance (In comparison to their Afflicted counterparts), the Tainted are not yet burdened by weakened, stiff muscles, allowing them to run and climb at the same level as an unafflicted human. On a positive note, Tainted lack the instinct to bite, instead throwing punches and clawing at their targets. Tainted appear to respond to pain to a limited extent, uttering cries when struck or shot. Whether this is the human conscious or a simple side effect of the Affliction’s early stage of infection is unknown.

Molted

Bat-sized creatures, the Molted are predatory birds hailing from the dark dimension. With a wrinkled, featherless body and long, piercing fangs, the Molted spend their days resting in cold dark pits, from caves and bunkers to basements and cellars. During night, however, the Molted hunt in large packs, using their overwhelming numbers to wear down and kill their prey. Food ranges from livestock and household pets to humans themselves. As nocturnal animals, the Molted struggle in the light of day, or in any light for that matter, often times collapsing onto the ground in a spastic, seizure-like state. The Molted rarely stray far from their dens, and often announce themselves via a loud, collective hiss. Those caught out in the open are encouraged to quickly find shelter or, if none is present, to create as much light around their position as possible.

Feral

Large, apelike creatures, the Feral are a rare creature, reported to lurk in the debris of war torn cities. Strong, agile and, above all, brutish, the Feral stalk the streets for prey, most often humans, using the rubble to their advantage. Survivors of Feral attacks report the beasts to sprint forward from an alleyway or destroyed building, quickly beating down their choice of food, before dragging the victim back into the urban maze. Individual fire seems to carry little effect on the beasts, with deceased Ferals only being stopped by a hail of bullets from multiple attackers. Though much stronger than the average human, Ferals appear to live solitary lives, often times ignoring humans wandering through their territories. Their hairy, apelike appearance has led to the nickname 'Bigfoot' amongst many service members.

Goliath

Towering at heights above 30 feet, Goliaths migrate throughout Germany, seeking out any living mass to absorb into its form. Comprised of dozens of different animal species, Goliaths are nigh unstoppable to small arms fire, requiring coordinated artillery and explosives in order to send these beings tumbling down. Those captured by the Goliath are quickly devoured, whether it be by oral ingestion or simply being consumed by its body. Fortunately for its prey, the Goliath is both slow and rather unintelligent, relying almost entirely on sight to track its victims, and having little in the way of object permanence. Those hunted by the beast have reported simply hiding in a building over night, with the creature losing interests in its prey and stomping away.
