Rowen was far from sane, that much no one could deny. So it shouldn't have been a surprise that she was incredibly paranoid about the little bundle of love she was currently watching play on the slide. Her eyes were constantly moving between the little girl and her surroundings, waiting for any sign of him that there could possibly be. Call it whatever you wanted but she couldn't take a chance on anything happening to Laurel.

She couldn't let him happen to her.

Her fingers slid across the faint stretch marks on her stomach with grace and a smile grazed her lips. This was her little bundle of joy, no one could ruin that for her. Not after all the diapers she changed alone, the food she paid for, the roof she put over their heads. There was never a time that they didn't have each other, and it would stay that way.

Perhaps it was because she had been raised by a single mother, but it felt right to her. It felt like this was how it was supposed to be. Just Rowen and Laurel, it was safe that way.

The whole thing happened while she was scanning the area, but she got the gist of it. Another child had pushed Laurel onto the ground and now her cries could be heard throughout the park. Maybe it was unwise to become angry at a child, but frankly, she didn't care. Especially since the parent of said child had somehow made it to the two kids first. "Come here baby," she chirped to the sobbing two-year-old. "It's okay, just a little scratch, rosebud."

Her eyes shifted to the aforementioned parent and her soft eyes were replaced with a glare strong enough to kill a man. "What the actual hell are you teaching your child?" She seethed. Irrational? Yes. Did she care? No. This was her little girl and she would gladly end anyone who did her any sort of harm.

Although, despite any protest she would surely give if asked about it, it didn't stop her from taking in every aspect of his face. She quite liked the looks of it. Something about him gave her a feeling she hadn't had in a very, very long time. She just wasn't quite sure what that something was.
