Nix Altony Bio

AkioTheHero

The Twenty-Fifth Roleplayer

Name: Nix Altony

Physical Age: 264
Mental Age: 19

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Q: Regular or Irregular? ->A: Regular

Species: Human - Regular

Appearance: Often adorned with a brown hallie coat and bowler cap, and holding herself with back straight, chin high and eyes forward, Nix’s modest attire and impeccable posture paint her the splitting image of an English gentlewoman. Brunette, Nix wears her dark brown hair in a layered lob. Her hazel eyes are soft and composed yet simultaneously expressive; though her facial expressions are notably suppressed, bordering on attempted stoicism, she’s all the same easy to read to a degree. Sheathed behind her coat for both discretion and ease of access, she is equipped with dual katars, simple weapons she finds practical due to being optimized for quick, dual-handed use.

Personality: Nix Altony holds herself with constant grace, elegance and modesty in both demeanor and attire, possessing the disposition of an English gentlewoman. However, though she seems to attempt to show herself as calm and composed in attempting to suppress her expressiveness, her control over her emotions is scarce. She is easily embarrassed when she realizes even the slightest hint of expression crosses her; she makes great strides to present herself as stoic and down-to-Earth, however in reality she appears truly somewhat emotional and excitable.

Nonetheless, Nix Altony is clever and quick-witted and has a penchant for puzzles and riddles and possesses a veritable repertoire of knowledge on detective fiction and murder mysteries well beyond her years. She often challenges other people with various riddles and puzzles, and just the same welcomes people to do the same unto her. She and her father have developed their own secret code they use to communicate with one another.

She exhibits strong problem-solving prowess, even in moments of extreme stress or pressure. She also possesses a bit of forked tongue; though never outright hateful, she participates in humor defined by a bit of a playful snark.

Contributing to her puzzle and problem-solving skills, Nix is incredibly observant, picking up on the slightest of body language and noting even the basest of details. She has a habit of overthinking things and making simple situations much more complicated than they rightly need to be.

Nix has a distinct disdain for using luck-based games and activities such card games, trading card games, coin flipping and other such means of random generation for either recreation or as a means of settling disputes. She much prefers situations be settled with more skill or ability-based affairs, whether they’re fair -- in being optimized for all participants -- or no.

Position: Scout

Special Position: Investigator
Affiliation: Neutral

Abilities and skills:

-Immense Mental Capabilities: Nix exhibits strong problem-solving prowess, even in moments of extreme stress or pressure. She is clever and quick-witted and has a penchant for puzzles and riddles and possesses a veritable repertoire of knowledge on detective fiction and murder mysteries well beyond her years. She often challenges other people with various riddles and puzzles, and just the same welcomes people to do the same unto her. Contributing to her puzzle and problem-solving skills, Nix is incredibly observant, picking up on the slightest of body language and noting even the basest of details. She has a habit of overthinking things and making simple situations much more complicated than they rightly need to be.

-Shinsoo Control: Nix was unable to manipulate Shinsoo prior to being transported to Evankhell’s floor. However, she is quick and eager to learn, and has a penchant for learning to apply Shinsoo in unconditional manners.
--Internal Baang: While a Baang typically manifests as an external sphere of energy, Nix is capable of using her own consciousness as a Baang by proxy. While more exhaustive than controlling a traditional Baang, utilizing this skill grants Nix a variety of unique abilities. While not particularly exhausting physically, it places a greater toll on her mind. However, the risk varies depending on the ability being used. When used on its own, an Internal Baang enhances her already immense mental capabilities to a parahuman degree and accelerates her reflexes.
---Expansion: Exerting herself further, Nix is able to expand her Internal Baang, essentially externalizing her own consciousness, manifesting it into a “field” about her and all within close enough proximity to be encompassed by it. The size of this field is larger than a Myun, but only because its of smaller concentration. The further the “field” spreads, the more pressure it puts on her brain and cause focus-breaking migraines. It doesn’t have a corporeal form, but can be sensed by those adept in the use of Shinsoo. This allows Nix to “observe” the innermost workings of that within the “field”, allowing her to approximate the function of various Shinsoo-related abilities or constructs, quantifying the capabilities of other people or creatures and other such vital information. However, one adept in the use of the use of Shinsoo can “disperse” this field, causing her to suffer from violent migraines, lose large chunks of memories or even receive irrevocable brain damage which could lead to a series of mental illnesses, depending on the severity of the force put behind the “dispersal” and the size of the “field”.
----Externalize: An extension of Expansion, Nix is able to externalize mental images, creating veritable “illusions” in order to distract and mislead other people within her “field”. Depending on the Shinsoo resistance and mental prowess of her target, these illusions can extend to the other senses, including creating a false sensation of pain, making someone hear a sound that was never made or making them believe they ingested poison, among other things. It isn’t required for her to hold a “field” in order to use it, but it makes utilizing this ability on multiple people less strenuous than otherwise. However, should she only wish to use it on a single target, using it without Expansion is the optimal choice.

History: Nix Altony, prior to becoming a Chosen Regular, lived on the 13th Floor of the Tower under her birth name, Elise Oak. Also with her lived Aarti Oak, her father and acclaimed storyteller and writer.

Though time spent with her father was limited, their relationship was relatively sound and she found great joy in reading stories written by her father, her favorite being a murder mystery series starring a Shinsoo-manipulating detective by the name of Mairie Altony who is granted the right by Headon to freely traverse the various floors of the Tower in order to solve mysteries the residents of the respective floors are unable to themselves.

When her father is able to keep Elise company, the two enjoy to keep each other’s minds sharps by testing each other with riddles, puzzles and brainteasers. In order to befuddle people, which Elise always found fun to watch, they had created a secret code only the two of them know with which they could communicate. In this code, it sounds like the two are speaking English, but only to the extent of throwing out words which, while semantically and syntactically sound, have no cohesive meaning.

Around this time, the advent of a cult that claims to be able to grant disquieted residents of the Tower “power beyond that of an Irregular” is being reported upon in various low-ranking Floors of the Tower, including the 13th, along with various criminal acts being committed by them, including kidnapping, ransom and murder.

As her father always does, Aarti left on one of his exploratory expeditions where he is, as he puts it, “seeking inspiration”. Though she tried to convince him to let her join him, as she always does, Aarti still insisted that Elise is too young to accompany him and left. As she usually does while her father is out on his escapades, she stayed with her older friend, Ino Bak, whom she met because of their mutual admiration of Elise’s father’s work. Together, the two, as always, played a game where they outline supposedly “inexplicable” situations to the other, who must then solve it by asking questions which the asker has to, within reason, answer.

Later that week, Elise had noted that a man entered her home. Presuming it to be her father, Elise quickly excused herself her Ino’s house and ran home to greet him. However, upon entering her home, she found it totally empty and generally undisturbed, save for a newfound letter addressed to her and signed “Aarti Oak”. Reading it, however, while any superficial reader would see it as a message simply wishing to let one’s daughter know they’re okay and wishing them well, the letter has a post-signature written in her and her father’s code. What was most mysterious was that while it was written in the code only she and Aarti should know, the code was a ransom note, demanding that Elise send a disinterested third-party to a very specific location in order to hand over an item which is referred to in the form of a riddle, which upon solving, Elise realized was her father’s journal. Totally baffled, but suspicious, of the whole situation, Elise dressed herself up as the investigator from her father’s novel and redid her hair in order to investigate this situation herself under a new identity. She read her father’s notebook, but to her dismay nothing seemed particularly of note -- it was simply a collection of notes and ideas kept by her father. She then set off for the location named in the letter.

It is when she arrives that she is engaged by Headon, who tells her that in exactly 10 minutes, she’ll be killed, and if she were on her own, there’d be positively nothing she could do about it. However, if she agrees to do him a favor, he’ll be able to take her to a place where she’ll be safe. He proceeds to add that in doing this favor for her, she’ll find a breadth of answers to questions very dear to her. She hastily agrees, and Headon tells her to accept becoming a Chosen Regular, and she’ll be appointed a special position -- Investigator -- which will denote her a member of a group of Regulars chosen specially by Headon to investigate up-and-coming dangerous organizations and cults that threaten the peace of the Tower. Intrigued, albeit suspicious, Elise hesitantly accepts the decision, and is, before being prepared for the tests at Evankhell’s floor, advised not to drop the facade she’s put on.

This is a rough draft of the bio. The history and abilities are a bit rough, so I will update them in due time. I just wanted to release a sort of... proof of concept. I will also expand on the concept of the cult in the updated version.
