At the time, the government was trying to find ways other than war to settle disagreements with other countries. They set out to create the most appealing man in the world to settle these disagreements. Instead, they only managed to make Nick more physically appealing. In fact, he appears as the ideal man to everyone, as far as looks go. Therefore, the government decided to use him to make some money and to trade for information.
Other: Nick hides his pain with humor, and pretends to be overly confident when really, he just wants someone to see the real him (red hair, brown eyes, freckles), not the idealized version.
