Just Another Face C̸͉̮͆̎̋̉͜͝ỉ̴̫̙̈́̽́̂p̷̹͕͊̈́́͐ͅḥ̸͈͕̃̎e̶̦̖͔͗͌̒̑r̷̈͛̑̏͜

Interactions: Tashi ( Jhin Jhin )
Location: Fashion Show
Mood: Bored

A yawn escaped Kyoko's lips as she swiped through her social media feed. In a way it wasn't much different than the show around her, a bunch of superficial people presenting themselves to others to give an illusion that their lives are fuller than they actually are. Be that as it may, distracting yourself in that online landscape is much better than having to give any active attention to these people, so of course someone had to go and bring her attention back into that sea of insufferable people.

Glaring yellow eyes met red as she turned to face the source of the voice that so rudely dragged her out of cyberspace as he went on about the food at the banquet table after that little jab at her. Oh... this guy... "You sure took your sweet time." A hint of irritation was present in her voice, her eyes looking over to the banquet table as Tashi talked about getting food. "Yea sure, I wasn't doing anything better anyways."

Looking over the stuff at the banquet table did get Kyoko's appetite running, though it's hard to focus on choosing with the way her silver haired companion was acting. "Yea, alright, alright, no need to rush. I'm surprised you finally got an outfit that fits you this time with how antsy you are. Though..." In response to his poking fun at her from a few moments ago and the rushing, Kyoko grabbed his neck tie and pulled him closer to her, looking him dead in the eye. It didn't seem like much looking from the outside, just a girl adjusting her date's outfit, but Kyoko's reasons for doing so weren't that good natured. As if! She barely knew the guy, if anything the entire date thing is just their cover, whoever's bright idea that was. But it wouldn't look good for her if her supposed "date" was eying other women in the venue. Not long after she pulled Tashi closer, she tightened the neck tie around his neck, hard. "Ah, there we go, much better." A sly smirk appeared on her face as she let go of Tashi, satisfied with the short distraction from the snootiness of upper society that petty bit of revenge provided her.

Grabbing a plate, Kyoko went for the seafood platter. As Tashi said, it's been a while since she's had anything good, so if she was going to be surrounded by a bunch of snobs she might as well help herself to the food these people eat. After filling her plate, she went over to where Tessa was sitting, one of the people on that list she'd sent to Daybreak, and took one of the seats near her, not waiting for her companion to get his own plate. Kyoko glanced over in Tessa's direction for a moment. There was something about her that made her like a magnet for the eyes. Well, not surprising, it was literally her job after all, as was Kyoko's to keep an eye on her and her 2 colleagues.

Hesitation. She’d cut deep into the heart of the matter. The way the little angel straightened her back and folded her arms - it was almost adorable. If her appearance wasn’t so damned irritating, and the revelation that she brought to the table anything other than a link with Elena, then Penelope would’ve let it slide. Seraphina, much like the beings she emulated, was the harbinger of something else.

Something wicked. Who knew what plots she brought to the doorstep of the show? What dangers that shadowed her every footstep across the banquet hall?

Yet Penelope had to remind herself of her place. There was a time and a place for emotion. And as much as it grated on her that Elena had once again sunk her claws into an unsuspecting young woman, she was not in a palace to do anything about it. For now, at least. Her sister’s new paramour would be afforded protection worthy of her station.

And if Elena decided to show up tonight, for whatever reason? Why, it would be something grand indeed.

Penelope worked her jaw. Perhaps this streak of vindictiveness was too much. The little angel was merely a victim of her sister’s predations. Many of her lovers defended themselves like this, only to grow bitter. The pattern was always the same. Denial when pressed. Anger when the elder twin grew bored of them. And bitterness. Oh, always the bitterness. A black seed that grew and grew until it bloomed into the poisonous flower of jealousy.

Elena left behind a trail of broken hearts and made her pick up the pieces. Some of those pieces were still buried in her skin years later; old flames that never really let go of Ainsworth Defense Technologies’ heartbreaker. Penelope was the substitute. If they couldn’t have Elena, then why not her? They had the same face, the same body.

But she was not weak, nor was she susceptible to flattery. It was an insult of the highest order, to be compared to such a sleazy woman who loved so much and discarded it so often. They would all leave, just as bitter as before. Some even more so. Penelope had been treated to many haphazard assassination attempts from Elena’s spurned lovers. Even one outright assault.

Penelope hoped that Seraphina wouldn’t be one of those cases.

She looked down on the little angel again, features pulled back into something resembling civility. Just acquaintances, she said. They talked, every now and then. Surely it was nothing to worry about.

And yet-

“I see.”

-there was the space for an ocean of disappointment between those two words.

Whatever understanding was made was superficial at best, but Genesis didn’t have the energy to care. This wasn’t the first time someone had misunderstood her, and it wouldn’t be the last. Whatever preconceived notions Elena’s sister had dredged up felt more a reflection of Elena than herself, anyways. She gives a single, perfunctory nod towards the woman signifying the end of the conversation.

Returning to the banquet, Soli was quick to welcome Genesis back.

“Is everything alright, dear?” They ask sweetly, keen gaze flickering over Genesis’ features.

“Yes, Soli. I’m much better now. Thank you.” Genesis offers a more genuine smile hoping to ease the air after her hasty exit. The last thing she wanted was to draw attention to it. She allows Soli to guide her back onto her seat and serve her a plate. Genesis pointedly avoids the redhead sat across from her for as long as she can before it’s made obvious she’s not looking on purpose.

Her eyes naturally flutter upwards as she reaches for a drink, landing on the redhead and her company. She offers a meek smile in greeting, looking more apologetic than anything, then Soli reels her attention right back.
