The world of Aldurin is comprised of three realms - the realm of the sky, Skyshard, the realm of the surface, Landfall, and the realm of the ground, The Core. The three realms coexist, but not necessarily in harmony. There’s a war in Landfall, danger in The Core, and Skyshard harbors ignorance towards both of the other realms’ hardships. Despite the differences between the three realms, they remain at peace with one another...but for how long?

Skyshard

Skyshard is a series of floating islands high above Landfall, and is nicknamed ‘The Immortal Realm,’ and although it is no older than the other two continents, it is the most magical of the three. It is also known as ‘The Celestial Plain,’ and is by far the most beautiful continent of the world of Aldurin. Skyshard is home to multiple eternal species such as elves, dragons, faeries, and anything else you can think of that are meant to live forever from birth, excluding the undead. It is the most peaceful and pure of the three continents, and has no currency. Despite the lack of currency, the islands of Skyshard distribute resources amongst themselves to stay afloat, while treating everyone as their equals. They undergo trades with Landfall for supplies that are unobtainable in their own land, but often avoid contact in order to remain pure and innocent.

It is the smallest of the three, and rather than devaluing the continent, that accentuates its exclusiveness. Skyshard has never had a day of conflict since the beginning of Aldurin, and will likely never have a single day of conflict since food is constant and resources are distributed evenly - no one species or member of a species is excluded, and given how small the population is compared to how large the floating islands themselves are, there are enough resources for everyone to last several eons. Skyshard is a paradise for all who enter, and that is mainly why no mortals are permitted to be on the floating islands, nor live there, simply because it is in a mortal’s nature to take without giving, to want and lust for things they should not have. Thus, Skyshard remains a dreamlike place for the mortals in Aldurin.

Landfall

Landfall is the second largest and most diverse of the three continents, and has every type of biome you could find on any world. It is referred to as ‘The Plain of the Sea,’ given the fact that most of the surface of the world is covered in freshwater oceans. Approximately thirty percent of Aldurin’s surface (including Skyshard) is actual land. Landfall is the only continent governed by sentient creatures - every location within Landfall (from small villages to large cities) is governed in some way, shape, or form, having some form of laws. It houses three different factions that are currently at war with one another: The Silver Legion, The Verdant Knights, and The Abyss Walkers.

Landfall was once ruled entirely by a group of different species that was organized into a council that set the standards of living on the continent. They provided the basic rights for all conscientious beings, and resources to all people whether they be rich or poor. These laws even provided a home for all species including the undead as well as demons, but they did not guarantee protection. These laws were enacted over a thousand years ago, and the council has since been overthrown by the many tyrants and leaders of the land. Over the many centuries, humankind corrupted the basic rights, and the main species that were strong supporters of these humans were amongst angels and sun elves, most likely corrupted themselves.

The Core

The Core is the underground continent starting after about 400m below sea level. It has its own ecosystem, although that is a generous term since food and water are scarce in almost all of the Core’s locations. Unlike Earth, there are no naturally occurring reservoirs of groundwater that are depleted with ease, rather, there are craters scattered throughout the core that have a single magical item in them known as ‘Tears of the Serpent.’ They are magical stones that constantly release water in a constant manner up until a certain amount has been reached - when the water pressure and level get to a certain level, the stones stop producing water. If any water is removed from the craters, more water will magically be produced. There are hundreds of these stones across the world of Aldurin, but no more than a dozen have been located. For each of the stones discovered, a city is created around the stone, and run by the beings that live in the Core.

Water is as much a currency as gold and silver, but is worth different amounts depending on location. ‘The Underground World,’ which is another name for the Core, is lit by streams of stagnant magma that threads through the rocky ceiling of the tunnels. They emit a soft glow when not being messed with by magic, but can be dimmed or brightened by pyromancers in the Core - they are usually hired by the leaders of each city to do just that. However, the Core is the most dangerous place that any mortal being could ever fear to traverse, because not only are the amounts of food and water terrifyingly scarce, but also the climate and creatures that inhabit the Core are dangerous.

If you wish to create your own city (such as an origin city for your character), simply send a description of your city in a manner similar to how the three continents were described, as well as important characteristics such as government type, religion, population, relative size, etc.
