Adric 'Longfang' Hrothgarsson
Age: 26

Role: Crown Prince of the Varangian Kingdoms

Personality: Adric is a loud and rowdy man, having been raised at the heart of the Varangian culture. As soon as he could walk, he was taught the importance of strength. Not just of body, but of mind and of will. As a leader, he is more often seen at the front, leading the tip of the spear and putting himself in as much danger as the other soldiers, much to the annoyance of the guards tasked with keeping him safe. He has little patience for court politics, in fact he has little patience whatsoever, and is as likely to strike someone he disagrees with as shout them out of the throne room.

Background: Adric was born into a life already set up for success. He was given all the food he could ever need, the finest education, the best teachers. He is not proud enough to try and deny these things, nor was he one to turn them away once he was old enough to realize such a thing. But his father Hrothgar could not keep him inside the walls of his home forever, and eventually he was let out. Adric fondly remembers his first raiding season he participated in. He and several other ships had gone down the coast to raid rich Lemoini lands, and not wanting to contend with Guo's preference towards ranged warfare. It were these first raids that Adric put what he was taught to practice, and showed that he could more than handle himself. This was also where he first transformed, though he himself remembers little aside from blacking out in combat and then waking up stripped to his waste in bed with a tiredness that weighed down his bones.

Since then he has gone out on more raids, and when not raiding he would disappear into the Varangian wilderness to hunt creatures of all shapes and sizes. He has also been visited many times by wise men trying to coax the beast out, to get a good look at it themselves to determine what kind of person he truly is, not trusting the tall tales of soldiers claiming Adric turned into a wolf like creature with massive tusks and white spines like those of a porcupine. Adric, for his part, does not like these visits or the hours he has to spend in a smoke filled room listening to the murmured chants of whichever mountain hermit has decided to visit him.

Magic: The ferocity of the blizzard lingers about him at all times, chilling most to the bone, though he has learned to keep it locked up tight. His true power is one he has little control over. In the midst of combat, when his bloodlust is at it's peak, he transforms into a monster. Some call this a curse, not a gift from the Gods, but many shamans have advised otherwise. A man that can control his inner beasts is the most powerful of them all, and so he is currently attempting to control the beast within.

Lady Elanil
of House Zanhuesa
cdc184110b5108ec15e0e3fbe09af5af.jpg
⟡ FUNDAMENTALS
NAME: Elanil Yllaris Zanhuesa
NICKNAME: Elan
AGE: 25
GENDER: Female
TITLE: Lady Elanil of Ascana
NATION OF ORIGIN: Ascana, Lemoin
ROLE: Lemoin Female Relative

HEIGHT: 5’9”
HAIR COLOR: Black
EYE COLOR: Amber
OTHER: Elanil's mixed heritage has given her pointed ears. She adorns many jewels passed down from her birth mother, gifted to her by her father on her 16th birthday.
⟡ PSYCHE
"Bless our endeavors to nurture and protect the flora and fauna that grace your embrace."

Elanil's mixed heritage has granted her a unique perspective, allowing her to empathize with the struggles and joys of those who are often ostracized for their differences. She stands proud in the face of adversity, embracing her identity as a symbol of unity rather than what her step-mother may try to label her as: a blemish. In the face of those who would diminish her worth, Elanil demonstrates a resilient and calm spirit, however, everyone has limitations and she’s no exception. Despite her outwardly strength, Elanil does grapple with the constant scrutiny and judgment from those who cannot see past her bloodline. The pressure to maintain a positive image can be emotionally taxing and sometimes this causes her to shrink into her own dark mind or explode out of her glass shell. Past experiences of betrayal and prejudice have made Elanil slow to trusting others, especially in matters of diplomacy or alliances. She's particularly dispirited about her arranged marriage.

Quirks
Walking barefoot when no one's around, smelling everything, always smelling like lavender and honey even if she hasn't sprayed anything

Likes
Moonlight strolls, animals, floral scents, honey, the smell of grass

Dislikes
The cold, unnecessary conflict, discrimination, lack of consideration, spicy foods
⟡ HISTORY
"Oh, Mother Earth, cradle of ancient roots and whispering leaves, grant us the wisdom to walk gently upon your sacred soil."

Elanil's early years were shrouded in mystery and isolation. Her birth mother, a figure lost from Varangian raids before the tender age of two, existed only in the realm of tales spun by her father. The stories of the wise Elysande, though comforting, felt more like works of fiction than a tangible part of her history. House Zanhuesa, with its cold and unwelcoming atmosphere, became the only world she knew, and the stories of her mother became both a source of solace and a reminder of an unfamiliar past.

Upon her arrival in Ascana, her grandfather, the reigning Duke, presented an austere front, devoid of familial warmth. The staff, mirroring the Duke's disposition, treated Elanil with a distant formality. The situation further deteriorated when her father, already burdened by noble obligations, reached a point where he could no longer defer his duty to marry.

Maria, Elanil's step-mother, offered no refuge from the coldness that surrounded her. While not openly hostile, Maria made little effort to hide her disdain when alone with Elanil. The young girl clung to the hope that the birth of her half-brother would bring about positive change, but those dreams were shattered. Her safe havens became restricted to the sanctuary of her bedroom and the welcoming embrace of her family's extensive library. It was there that the bookkeeper, also her teacher, stood as a beacon of warmth, offering peace in the vast world of knowledge.

The turning point in Elanil's life came at the age of ten with the passing of her grandfather. Isaac, her father, ascended to the position of Duke, bringing an unexpected shift in the atmosphere. While Maria's resentment remained unchanged, a newfound kindness enveloped the staff. Elanil, guided by her teacher, began to comprehend the pervasive fear that had shackled the household. The staff's sudden kindness was not a reflection of her father's inherent character but rather a release from the oppressive shadow of the former duke.

In Elanil's teenage years, the societal complexities of her mixed heritage became more apparent. As she navigated the intricate tapestry of Lemoine's noble circles, her unique background made her a target for subtle but persistent bullying. The whispers behind elegant fans and hushed conversations were laced with prejudiced notions that sought to diminish her worth. Yet, Elanil's resilience and inner strength became her shield. The support of a few genuine friendships provided moments of reprieve from the relentless scrutiny of her peers.

As an adult, Elanil's contributions are recognized by the king of Lemoine himself, much to the bitterness of her step-mother and brother. She has played an active role in improving the living conditions of the less fortunate as well as utilizing her magic to further advance farming and medicinal techniques.

Because she already serves as a pillar of hope for her people and between her two heritages, she has been given the weighted, unwanted reasonability of becoming a beacon between Lemoin and Varangia.

⟡ SKILLSET
Magic
Elanil has the ability to connect to the spirits of the land and its creatures, resulting in enhanced communication with animals and passively fostering harmony between herself and the environment. By channeling the vitality of the earth, she may manipulate smaller plants and accelerate the natural healing process of others. This may involve touching the ground to draw energy and then transferring it to a wounded individual for rapid recovery. Unfortunately, healing others can be particularly taxing, especially when there is little life around her to cultivate from, and she can't do much for those already on the brink of death.

General
Elanil possesses the basic skills most noble women from Lemoine do. She's particularly skilled in the arts of dancing and singing, though she has some skills more associated with her male counterparts, such as being surprisingly good at running.

Name: Cedric Lemoin
Age: 28
Role: Crown Prince of Lemoin
Personality:
Lord Cedric Lemoin possesses a multifaceted personality that seamlessly blends the refined qualities expected of a noble with a genuine warmth and approachability that endears him to those around him. While his exterior may exude a dignified and composed aura, those who know him well recognize a subtle playfulness in his demeanor. Cedric is quick-witted and possesses a dry, often self-deprecating sense of humor, allowing him to navigate the complexities of courtly life with both grace and charm. His ability to find levity in serious situations makes him a sought-after companion during social events, providing a breath of fresh air in the sometimes stifling atmosphere of nobility.

Beneath the polished surface lies a man of deep empathy and compassion. Cedric genuinely cares about the well-being of those within his household and his sphere of influence. Whether interacting with servants or engaging in discussions with fellow nobles, he treats everyone with respect and consideration. His kindness is not a mere facade for political gain but a reflection of his core values, instilled in him by his upbringing. Known for his unwavering sense of honor, Cedric is not swayed by the fickle winds of courtly politics; he upholds principles of justice and fairness, earning him both admiration and trust among those who have the privilege of knowing him beyond the glittering façade of nobility.

Background:
Lord Cedric Lemoin hails from the storied lineage of House Lemoin, a noble family steeped in tradition and history. Raised within the grandeur of the family estate, Cedric's early years were a harmonious blend of scholarly pursuits and martial training. Guided by the seasoned wisdom of his elders, he absorbed the intricate lessons of politics, literature, and the arts, molding him into a well-rounded individual poised to carry the mantle of his prestigious family.

The halls of House Lemoin echoed with tales of the family's past glories and feats, with ancestral portraits lining the walls, each gaze seeming to impart the weight of responsibility onto the young lord-to-be. Cedric's education extended beyond the walls of his home, incorporating teachings from renowned scholars and seasoned warriors alike. His mentors recognized not only his keen intellect but also his innate sense of fairness and justice, qualities that set him apart even in his formative years.

As the eldest son, Cedric's destiny was intricately entwined with the future of House Lemoin. The family crest, a regal lion, not only adorned his attire but became a symbol of the strength and resilience expected of him. While the weight of expectations bore down on his shoulders, Cedric approached his responsibilities with a combination of reverence for tradition and a thirst for forging a legacy uniquely his own. His upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for the delicate balance between tradition and progress, preparing him for the intricate dance of nobility that awaited him beyond the protective walls of his ancestral home.

Magic:

1. Stoneguard's Embrace: In the heat of battle, Cedric utilizes his mastery of earth magic to summon a protective barrier of solid stone. With a swift gesture and a focused mind, he raises a formidable wall that shields him from incoming attacks. As adversaries attempt to breach the barrier, Cedric seamlessly transitions to his swordsmanship, using the cover to assess the battlefield and strike with calculated precision when the moment is opportune.

2. Quicksand Quell: When confronted by multiple opponents, Cedric employs his earth magic to transform the ground beneath his foes into quicksand. As enemies struggle to navigate the treacherous terrain, he adeptly weaves through the battlefield, using his sword to exploit their vulnerability. The slowed movements of his adversaries give Cedric the advantage, allowing him to disarm and incapacitate them with strategic strikes.

3. Terrablade Torrent: In the midst of combat, Cedric channels earth energy into his sword, imbuing it with the essence of stone. With a forceful swing, he releases a torrent of razor-sharp blades made of compacted earth, creating a devastating ranged attack that can pierce through multiple opponents. The combination of magical and physical elements makes the Terrablade Torrent a formidable technique, catching adversaries off guard and asserting Cedric's dominance on the battlefield.

4. Seismic Surge: Cedric taps into the raw power of the earth to create seismic waves beneath his opponents. As the ground ripples and shakes, disorienting those around him, he capitalizes on the chaos to execute a series of lightning-fast sword strikes. The disconcerted foes find it challenging to anticipate his movements, creating openings for Cedric to exploit and emerge victorious.

5. Pillars of Prowess: A defensive maneuver with offensive potential, Cedric summons towering pillars of stone around him. These pillars act both as a shield against incoming attacks and as vantage points from which he can launch devastating aerial assaults. Cedric seamlessly transitions between the elevated pillars, using his sword to strike down foes from above while maintaining a strategic advantage in the battle arena. This dynamic combination of earth magic and swordplay exemplifies Cedric's mastery of both disciplines.

Kelda “Valkyrie” Hrothgarsdottir

Age: 22

Role: Princess of the Varangian Kingdoms

Height: 5’10”

Hair: Light brown

Eyes: Blue

Misc: Kelda is muscular and strong, with tattoos covering her arms, back and shoulders.

Personality: Kelda is blunt, sometimes to the point of rudeness. She’s spent her life fighting against her parent’s, and society’s, expectations of what a woman is supposed to be and do, and it’s given her a big reckless, impulsive streak. As a woman in a male dominated society, she has everything to prove, and will not back down from a challenge. Like her older brother, she does have a temper, but she is also quick to laugh.

Background: As far back as Kelda can remember, she wanted to learn how to fight, and join her brother, Adric, on raids. As a child, she was laughed at and pushed towards more womanly pursuits. Occasionally, someone would give her a practice weapon and indulge her in letting her swing it around. She showed a genuine talent for combat, and, reluctantly, allowances were made for her to learn alongside the boys. It was made clear to her she would receive no special treatment for being a girl, and she expected none. It infuriated her to have to work twice as hard to get the same recognition, but she did it gladly, so she could avoid going back to the woman’s circle, where they would berate her for her unfeminine, muscular build and callused hands. In the beginning, she was beaten far more often than she did the beating, but it wasn’t long before she was holding her own, and then winning. She learned she didn’t feel the cold the way others do, and she could wrap that freezing air around her like a cloak, making it difficult to see her and thus, hit her.

Kelda was keen to go raiding. She fought hard to earn her place in her brother’s raiding party and took to raiding like a fish to water. During one particularly difficult fight against an ornery opponent who refused to see her as a worthy rival, she became so overwhelmed with fury and frustration she shrieked at him. Instantly, a storm of deadly, piercing ice swirled around him and he fell over, dead. She wasn’t sure, but she could swear she saw a look of approval on her brother’s face. She knew she would never get the approval of her mother, so she sought it from her father and brother.

Magic: Cold doesn’t bother her, and she can use the water and ice in the air as a cloak, making her hard to see and hit. She can also conjure a swirling storm of ice around her enemies. Over the years, she’s learned to alter the size and shape of the ice crystals, so it can create a fine, but thick, hard-to-see through curtain, or a deadly eddying storm of sharp ice shards.

Xiuhcoatl The Serpent Priestess
dream_TradingCard - 2024-01-02T223708.445.jpg

Age: 24

Role: 1st Sorceress

Personality: Xiuhcoatl's true personality lies somewhere between her two forms. The first, is a stoic and ruthless sorceresses. She is reserved, quiet most times. However, when she speaks, there is rarely any charismatic charm nor splendor in her words. She is blunt and stubborn in her ways. Like other top mages, she has an almost zealot-like devotion to her beliefs and traditions. Legends and truth may sometimes be the same thing.

As a citizen, she is far more humble and even at times friendly. She enjoys the small comforts of life that are given and keeps to herself. Still, with the right conditions she can become quite energetic and even daring and reckless.

However, despite the two different identities, Xiuhcoatl is a diligent student. She is curious about the world beyond her empire, but also smart enough to observe and study her rivals and opponents.

Background: To be the top sorcerer of the empire, only answerable to the High Priestess herself, requires not just raw strength but caution. Many powerful sorcerers understood the need to "eliminate" potential risks or threats to their power.

As such, the Teotl Empire's top sorceress' origins are as mysterious as her appearance. Flowing robes, mud, and a golden mask and headdress always seemed to cover her. Initially, she was more jester than rival. The hot, humid jungles of the Teotl Empire was not kind to one draped in mystery. Surely, no mage could survive under the weight of such disguise.

And yet, the Serpent Priestess persevered. In some ways, her mask, which seen by many as a disadvantage, proved to be a double-edged sword for her opponents. The mask hid any emotion. Hid all hints of weakness. Only a stoic facade that stood amongst the embers of victory. Soon enough, by the tests and defeat of those who tried to stop her, she climbed to the top and became the top ranked Sorceress in all of the Teotl Empire.

Her origins, were just as mysterious. Very few could recall if she was a student who had been tutored. If at any point her powers had been shown before. If it came from a great lineage or if she was simply the product of some unknown ritual.

But for the precious few who do know Xiuhcoatl's true identity, the story was far from perfect.

She was indeed one of many students for a great tutor, Tenoch.

Tenoch was a man that did not suffer fools. She'd come to his temple, somewhat sure of herself like many of her peers. He'd broken them all down. For his goal was simple: he would uncover the next Zaniyah. Although many failed his trainings, of the few that withstood, only one truly stood out.

She recalled barely being able to stand up from the stone floor. Tenoch standing over her, his hands holding the golden mask. Her face, as he said it. She would put it on and become Xiuhcoatl. The mask felt heavy. It constrained her. Held her back even.

"Remember this, serpent. For many snakes live amongst the Empire. If they ever find out who you are, see you as nothing but mortal, they will kill you. They will find you when you sleep. When you eat. Your power will be the only thing to keep them at bay. If you truly wish to be the greatest, and you are, than you must take this to heart."

Xiuhcoatl accepted her mantle without question.

Now, being at the top, she realized her master's words were true. Envy and betrayal. Snakes sabotaged each other to climb to the top. Some got by their own talent or practice. Xiuhcoatl was gifted, but being gifted was not enough.

Being trained was not enough.

To be at the top, there was no one to truly trust. Only to trust in her power and the ability to keep it. Still, in the instances where she was able to peel off her mantle to rest or rejuvenate, she felt a freedom that none of her peers could imagine.

Without the mask, she was just another citizen of the Empire. She could eat knowing her food was not poisoned. Sleep in bed knowing her room would be undisturbed.

For her, paradise was living as a citizen.

Magic: Xiuhcoatl means the turquoise serpent, an ally of fire and a weapon for the empire. As an ally of fire, she wields it to devastating effect. She can create multiple fiery serpent flames, stretching from her back like tentacles as they envelope and set ablaze any obstacle in her path.

These serpents usually move slowly, but if created up close, can strike like lightning.

Xiuhcoatl is also able to speak and command through the feathered serpent, which is a larger fire formation that envelopes her. From the feathered serpent, she is able to shoot bolts of lightning. These formations are benefited by her pool of magic, but also amplified by other nearby heat sources.

Extra:

There is a rumor she eats the beating heart of anyone that displeases her or has seen her face.

Another rumor says she is an actual snake underneath the mask.

Appearance : Standing at 5'2, Xocolatl is an unassuming girl with tanned skin, bright brown eyes and dark hair. She wears casual adventuring clothes that allows her to move freely, though she's given quite a regal cloak that she's suppose to be wearing during the meeting.
Name: Xocolatl (or Coco for universal tongue)
Age: 21
Role: 3rd spellcaster

Personality: Xocolatl is a bubbly attention-seeking girl who likes to cause mischief and entertain people around her. Her position gave her unique perks of providing her enough prestige to be known in the entire Teotl while sparing her from most of the political responsibilities, allowing herself to continue her life as a hunter. She adorned her room with the trophies of her hunts like horns, fangs, and even human skulls. She definitely doesn't feel like a good fit for the upcoming meeting with foreign representatives but she obliged anyway.

Background:
Xocolatl spent her childhood following a drunkard monk, for her the monk was her father figure. However, for the monk she's more of an apprentice. He teached her how to control her magic, how to survive in the wild and how to drink like there's no tomorrow. As she grows, so was her magic and she gradually got noticed.

Shadow magic wasn't particularly a rare one but people who use them usually didn't grow much in term of magical power. The Great Fire snuffed out the dark, they said. Yet she keeps climbing the ladder every year until she finally managed to climb into the top 3. The priests consider her existence as a premonition that the God of Night and Conflict once again took interest in humanity and something big would happen soon.

Magic: The Great Fire casts its light across the world, and in places the light can't reach, darkness creeps in. Xocolatl can control the shadow around her to attack, she also can see through darkness and transform herself into shadow.

Relationship:
  • Xiu -
  • Second Sorc -

Quirks:
  • Collects hunting trophies
  • Addicted to kokoa drink

Gears:
  • Ocelotl Cloak: Expensive cloak granted by the empire to be used during the meeting. It has yellow and black pattern that evokes a jaguar, symbolizing her expertise as a hunter and her connection with the Night God.
  • Dual daggers: A pair of imported steel daggers that she use to ambush her target. Xocolatl can also plays party tricks with it.
  • Obsidian dagger: An ornamental dagger with its blade made of clear high-quality obsidian that can even be used as mirror. Very sharp but brittle.
  • Clay gourd: Filled with kokoa powder for quick caffeine kick

Aesir “Stormchaser” Bjarneson

⟡ FUNDAMENTALS
NAME: Aesir Bjarneson
NICKNAME: Stormchaser
AGE: 25
GENDER: Male
TITLE: Jarl
NATION OF ORIGIN: Varangia
ROLE: Varangia Male Relative

HEIGHT: 6'4
HAIR COLOR: Black
EYE COLOR: Blue
OTHER: Various tattoos, piercings, and scars decorate Aesir’s body.
⟡ PSYCHE
As a boy, Aesir was driven by a sense of curiosity and a desire for adventure, tending to act on impulse rather than reason. Whether sneaking out of the castle for nighttime escapades or spontaneously joining a sea expedition, he embraced the thrill of the unknown and some of those tendencies have bled into his adulthood. However, despite his once chaotic nature, Aesir’s loyalty to those close to him has remained unwavering. He stands by friends and allies, providing an occasionally mischievous yet dependable presence in both times of merriment and adversity.

Cold sarcasm is Aesir’s weapon of choice when faced with unwanted inquiries. His ability to deflect with biting humor shields him from revealing more than he wishes, maintaining control over the information he shares. He’s selectively open with those he trusts and breaching his boundaries without permission can trigger a defensive and often hostile response.

⟡ HISTORY
Aesir Bjarnesson was born into a life intertwined with tragedy. His father, Bjarne, shared a deep camaraderie with the reigning king. Aesir’s mother, a revered witch doctor in the capital, brought wisdom to their household and to those who sought her.

His mother, succumbing to the trials of childbirth, left behind a young son and a fragile newborn sister who could not withstand the cruel embrace of fate. Aesir, at five years old, faced the harsh reality of loss.

In his grief, Aesir’s father sailed away on more journeys, leaving his son alone or in the care of neighbors . At the tender age of nine, Aesir received the news that his father, lost to the vast expanse of the ocean for years, was declared officially dead. The king informally adopted the young Viking after this news, and he was raised alongside Adric and Kelda, though with more lenience.

Within the sea of his emotions, Aesir discovered a harbor of peace. Turning to the art of boat carving, a skill learned from his father, he found solace in crafting great vessels. This practice became a sanctuary.

Fate, however, continued to whirl around Aesir. At seventeen, he encountered love in a lioness whose wild spirit mirrored his own untamed heart. The union led in marriage at eighteen and the birth of a child at nineteen. Tragedy, unfortunately, struck again, claiming his wife and child just two short years later.

Haunted by this twisted cycle of fate, Aesir, now an adult, is cautious of forming close bonds, reluctant to opening his heart to another. He is not particularly thrilled that he will need to marry again.

Magic
Like many Varangians, Aesir possesses a passive immunity against the cold, though his magic rests more in lifeblood than its icy sister. His magic also allows him to breathe beneath the water’s surface, to sense incoming sea storms as well as create temporary, physical manifestations. In extreme cases, he may even be able to manipulate the water content within other bodies.

General
Aesir is renown as one of the best sailors in Varangia, able to navigate through the most hellish storms without losing any men or women. He is capable of crafting his own boats, spending much of his time perfecting his work whenever he can.

When it comes combat, his preferred weapons are dual hand axes, a bow, a simple bolas, or a magic water whip.

Nations of Anan.png
Name: Guo Yaling
Role: Eldest Daughter and Heir to the Guo Dynasty

Age: 25
Height: 5'4" (163 cm)
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown

Personality:
Yaling’s greatest strength is her eloquence, as formidable as any warrior’s skill with a blade. Rather than wielding a sword herself, she prefers to command from afar. This, however, does not mean that she is weak-willed. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she wholeheartedly believes in ruling the Eastern Realm’s neighbors with an iron fist.

Her own people are a different story. Yaling has quite a soft spot for the residents of the Eastern Realm, too willing to forgive minor transgressions. She believes that by leading by example, those below her will resemble the proud, dedicated, people she hoped them to be. Therefore, any failure on their part was a failure on her part.

Yaling is also a patron of the arts, supporting them financially and by hosting elaborate celebrations on the royal grounds. From theater to musicians to sculptures, she absolutely adores any act of creativity. To her, one of the most important things to protect is the Eastern Realm’s culture.

Background:
From a young age, Yaling was taught that nothing was more important than control. One key to achieving this control was in how others perceive you. From performing tea ceremonies to traditional dance, Yaling was expected to be the embodiment of grace and dedication. This upbringing instilled in her the understanding that perception could be used as a tool for influence, each action a carefully choreographed step in maintaining an image of poise and sophistication.

These lessons in control bled over to her leadership experience. It taught her that each command she issued held the weight of consequences. Her ability to project an image of unwavering confidence assured her subordinates and fostered trust within the ranks. Yaling also cherished the advice of others, particularly her siblings. Her brother’s experience in and out of battle would provide crucial input in terms of strategy.

Cloud Manipulation - Able to summon, disperse, or shape clouds at will, allowing her to create a dense fog in her area. When feeling strong emotions such as anger, clouds tend to cover the sky above her.

Cualli

024bfd751eb961a21d7213e82450e0cb.jpg

Age:

29

Height/Weight: 5'10, 189 lbs

Role:

2nd strongest sorcerer of the Teotl Empire

Personality:

Cualli is best described as a brash man with a heart of gold. He is fairly impulsive and will often act as the mood strikes him. As a result, he is not exactly the best when it comes to conducting himself in a "proper" manner.

Being called crass, tactless, or even vulgar would be harsh but not entirely incorrect. The thing that most don't realize is that Cualli merely does not believe that things like platitudes and empty compliments are worth doing.

To summarize, he is a honest, simple man that likes to be forward with others and loves a challenge. Nothing brings him more joy then encountering a problem that he cannot solve conventionally.

This means that while most people consider Cualli to be brutish and dumb, he is actually quite sharp and will sometimes lean into the public perceptions if he thinks the situation calls for secrecy. He obviously prefers to approach everything honestly but that's not always possible.

Background:

Cualli did not strive for his position as the number two of the kingdom. Truth be told, he never really desired any sort of high position at all.

He was a naturally talented young man that never stopped striving to better himself through training and experience. His drive to master his body and soul is what landed him in his current place.

He accepted the responsibilities that the position entailed because he could be of more help to his people when his words carried more weight. It also opened up opportunities for him to see more of the world, learn from foreigners, and challenge his own beliefs by hearing the cultural beliefs of others.

Through his training, travel, and never-ending drive to challenge the unknown, his skills and power grew until he was considered among the elite of the Teotl Empire. Now, he has been tasked on a diplomatic mission by the high priestess to broker a peace between their rival nations.

It was a melancholic mission for Cualli, as he dislikes unnecessary suffering but conflict was always an opportunity to grow oneself.

Skills:

Mastery of Body and Soul-

Cualli dedicated many years to training and conditioning his mind and body. As a result of this training, he not only has tenacious physicality but a sharp mind both off and on the battlefield.

Unarmed Expert-

The Teotl sorcerer has near peerless expertise in unarmed combat. He knows how to use his talents, magic, and skills to such an extent that he does not feel the need to use a weapon. That said, he knows how to handle those who use melee weapons or those who hang back and cast spells better than anyone.

He understands his weaknesses as a hand-to-hand combatant and has learned to overcome them.

Flame of Ambition-

The force and control that Cualli exerts over his flames is damn near without equal. While he is one of many in the Teotl Empire who manipulates fire magic, few wield it with the level of expertise that he does.

He can conjure fire from his very being and manipulate it according to his will, taking whatever shape or size he imagines.

This ability puts a drain on his reserves equal to the amount of power, complexity, and size of his fiery creations/attacks. He prefers to use simple but potent attacks. They are easily seen but not easily dealt with.

Ashes and Cinder-

While not immune, Cualli's body is highly resistant to heat damage from any source.

Unyielding Fire-

One of the main causes of Cualli's rise in power is his seemingly bottomless pit of stamina. While it is far from infinite, his energy reserves are vast and can take a very long time to tire him out if he is fighting defensively.

Name: Gunhild
Age: 28
Role: Varangian high priestess and sorceress
Personality: Gunhild is far from the sombre ascetic one would expect from a priestess. She is eccentric and outspoken, speaking her mind with little reverence for rank or title with a sarcastic and sardonic sense of humour. She can be crass and openly hedonistic despite tradition requiring otherwise. She is however quite dedicated to her role, performing her duties with almost seriousness even if she might not act like that. Those who know her know that behind her irreverence there is a wisdom and a touch of the divine (real or only perceived), making a confidant and adviser to many a jarl who look past who often look pass her disrespect or even embrace it.
Background: Gunhild is a controversial figure in the Varangian court, not due to her eccentric and outspoken way, more to do with her parentage. Gunhild is a distant cousin of the current Crown Prince and Princess and granddaughter of the King Fenrar, a crazy and reviled king who was usurped by the current royal family after a civil war. Though the King Fenrar was killed in exile, Gunhild's parents were exiled and forces living of the outskirts of the Varangian lands, living a harsh and shunned existence in the tundra barely surviving off the land. It was feared that letting Gunhild's father live while was a mistake, but he made no such attempt, making a point that he would not be like his father.

Gunhild grew up in this harsh isolation, any attempt with other children was prevented and usually resulted in her being wiped by the local guard. She was however a precautious and curious child, always testing out the limits of her isolation and satisfying her curiosity of the civilised world. The only kindness she found apart from the parents was in the local temple where the priestesses claimed to see a mark of the divine on her and taught her their ways. She joined the order the moment she came of age. At first, she used as a means to an end, a priestess gave up all ties to her past and family so was allowed back in Varangian society but soon found solace in the ways of the priestess and enjoyed the respect and influence in provided her. Though she was constantly chastised by her irreverence, she rose through the ranks of the priesthood, eventually becoming high priestess involved in the religious rites of the royal family.

Skills -
  • Skilled ice mage in the tradition of the Varangian priestess
  • Trained healer and herbalist
  • some martial training in the use dual weapons and the bow thanks to hunting with her father.

Name: Antony Holt
Age: 21
Role: Third in line to the Lemoin Throne.
Personality: Unlike his two peers Cedric and Elanil, Antony is very much what a nobleman should be. He is well learned, martially trained, and by all accounts has a rod shoved up his backside. But book smarts and sparring against teachers teaches only so much, because of that Antony is a very naive man. And with little interaction with others besides his teachers and close peers, his people skills are sorely lacking. Perhaps it is a blessing that he is so far removed from the throne.
Background: Antony has had a particularly pampered upbringing, being the only child and heir to the Holt family name and all the holdings that comes with it. Of course, Antony has no real concept of what this all means. He was raised in an ivory tower, with a silver spoon in his mouth. The few friends he had was the heir Cedric, something his parents no doubt had a hand in doing, and the Lady Elanil, who he can't pin down what kind of feelings he has for her and who his parents very much did not want him talking to.

When he came of age he was given more responsibilities, such as organizing defenses against the seasonal Varangian raids, attempting to predict the lightning strikes of the Teotl, and posturing against the Guo. With a small village settlement under his direct control, he managed to do all of these things with some skill. Nothing particularly note worthy, the Varangians had decided to look for easier prey when spotting the villages hastily erected walls while both the Teotl and Guo had no interest in a fledgling, wildling lord. That is until he got a letter from his parents informing him of his role to play in peace negotiations. Peace, what a novel thought, perhaps when he wasn't having to constantly fight raiders, ruffia
Magic: Antony's magic has narrowed to focus on metals. He is able to control most metals and is even able to bend them like stalks of wheat.

Guo Guizhong

Ruan.Mei.600.4093287.jpg

Age: 21

Role: Second Eldest Sister

Personality:
Curious yet polite, Guizhong's personality is one of sincerity. She is dutiful in her support and abundant in her blessings, even if she sometimes appears too gullible. Although she is polite, being of a noble dynasty, Guizhong has never met hardship nor difficulty. She asks and she usually receives. As such, she is prone to spontaneous decisions. Thankfully, most of her antics are kept well within guarded walls. And as for her schedule, she is known as a heavy sleeper.

Underneath the seemingly spoiled yet honest shell however, is a cruel inventor. Guizhong spends her nights studying and developing new tools and weapons of war. Even though such tools are celebrated, Guizhong refuses to take credit. Instead, she uses her influence and power to act through intermediaries, hiding behind a curtain when she must make an appearance, if only because of her carefully constructed image of a carefree ditz.

Background:
For the Skyward Lords, the youngest of the Guo line is also predictably stuck in the shadow of her siblings. Guo Yaling's elegance and compassion for her people make her a natural empress. Qian's military accomplishments and brutal tactics have made him a force that must be recognized. Yet Guizhong Guo lives a rather pampered life as a fool compared to her siblings. She is easily lost in the streets and political battles of the court, looking to her elders for guidance.

...of course it's all an act. Since she was born, Guizhong understood she was far more sadistic than her siblings. She enjoyed tormenting the little insects and creatures that roamed around the gardens. She found herself fascinated in dissection both of machine and man. She felt it was easy to mimic tears, but hard to truly feel any form of grief for the losses that her siblings mourned both in private and public.

For Guizhong, her exploration fuels her hedonism. Yet behind the corrupted soul is an intellect and ingenuity towards one ulterior goal: war. Since her first attempts building traps for the helpless creatures in her reach, Guizhong's goal and contribution to her nation is a desire to build weapons both practical and cruel.

On one end is a genius that has worked to find and bring some of the best scholars and inventors of the kingdom to create weapons that would benefit their armies. Fire arrows, improved explosives, and large mechanisms of war.

On the other end were brutal methods of interrogation and torture. Books of techniques deemed cruel but necessary.

Some would consider it almost dishonorable to use such methods. Guizhong tried to justify her ways privately with her siblings. She claimed she would be an aid to their goals. But deep down, Guizhong only wants to see them in action. She has no care if her weapons are used against outside forces or even her own people. So long as it is used against something, she will enjoy it nonetheless.

Eztli
Teotl's 3rd Sorcerer
nahara_canvas.pngName: Eztli
Age: 30
Role: Teotl's 3rd Sorcerer
Personality: There's a duality to Eztli, a duality as stark as the moonlit night and the empire she serves. On one side, you have her formal self, a dutiful servant to the High Priestess and the sacred Fiery Altar. A puppet to the whims of fate. An unyielding veneer of deference defines her; serving as the unspoken law of her existence. Her heart, once warm, now beats behind walls of frost and bitter emplacements. It's been a while since anything managed to thaw the ice that encases her emotions, not since her rise to the coveted third position in the hierarchy, just shy of the realm's zenith.

Beneath the frosty exterior lies a cunning part of her. Her time as a chosen woman granted her the skills and knowledge that could only benefit someone of malicious intent. Eztli, with calculated indifference, regularly dissects people, assessing the most efficient way to guide them towards their next reincarnation. In the end, the quickest and most subtle approach is through a sleight and a small dose of poison. Her machinations lurk in the shadows, ready to bare their fangs when necessity demands it.

Background:
Eztli graced the highlands with her first cries, born to folk who did their duty and paid their obligation to the Teotl High Priestess. In this land where the sun's blessings were revered, custom demanded deference.

The daylight hours bathed the peaks in a cacophony of sounds, but as night fell, a different symphony emerged—the eerie silence punctuated only by the haunting call of a hawk and the rustle of grass. It was the kind of stillness that sent shivers down spines, taking the mind to realms untouched by the sanctity of light.

A hawk descends, its mighty wings unfurled. It blots the sky in its magnificence. In that infinitesimal moment, the moonlight that filtered through the thatched roof was eclipsed. Devoid of light and its comforting gaze, Eztli felt a chill breeze past her.

A chill breeze swept over Eztli, piercing her skin and sending a shiver down her spine. It wasn't just a physical reaction; something within her ignited. Starting as a mere spark, it grew into a flame, not as grand as the festival fires that captured the attention of the higher world, but potent enough. The warmth it generated spread through her, banishing the chill before diffusing into a delicate equilibrium.

The morning after, fate had taken its course. Eztli, deemed the epitome of purity, was chosen—her skin was unblemished, neither by freckle nor scar. She was a thaski, ripe of age to be a chosen amongst their people. For the two that sired her, it was a duty, an obligation to the High Priestess, to surrender their daughter.

Under the care of a priestess in the halls where chosen women dwelled, Eztli underwent meticulous instruction. She delved into the traditions and rituals to be observed at the Fiery Altar in the High Priestess's presence. Her education extended to the preparation of brews—aphrodisiacs, anesthetics, poisons—crafted by her own hands.

Four years later, a pivotal juncture emerged. Destiny would decide whether Eztli would be offered as tribute in a ceremony, bestowed upon nobility as a servant or concubine, or consecrated to guide the girls who would follow in her footsteps. Although some will say that, there is, in fact, a fourth option. One that is more imposing, and bodes ill if undertaken incorrectly.

Her talent in the fire magick blossomed, fueled by the depths of her soul, emboldened by the sun's ever-vigilant gaze. No woman could rationalize the gaze that emits from her body, so too was Eztli incapable of explaining away the gift she was given. Unwilling to teach others and unchosen for her lack of beauty, she was given to the High Priestess for her talent.

There, she endured a Trial of Position, elevating her position farther than she could have imagined. Eztli secured a position as third. She rose high enough to be satisfied, and her low position in the hierarchy kept gazes wandering past her.
Magic:
Eztli is capable of the usual affair with fire. She wields it is as if it were a part of her, and it bends to her will. Although she can spew fire from herself, her work is better with access to an open flame.

The real power that Eztli is commended for, and partially known for, is her knots. With a deft hand, she can imbue aspects of fire into a braid or knot. As soon as it is tightened, the aspect is released. The more complex the aspect, the more intricate the knot. With her ability, Eztli can give a knot the gift of burning and tie it around an unsuspecting neck. If she were to be brazen, she could tell a knot to burst, tie it, and send it off to erupt into a blaze. Eztli does this, remarkably, under a cloak where her hands may remain unseen, and her techniques unlearned.
