Nasu woke up well before the crack of dawn. This however wasn't abnormal for him, waking up at 4am was routine for him since his father first started training him seven or so years ago. The young Uchiha slipped out of his bed, and headed to the windowsill.

Outside it was raining. Nasu frowned, and drew his curtains shut. He hated rain. It meant he couldn't train without getting all his clothes wet and muddy.

The eleven year old made his way to the bathroom where he took a quick shower before dressing and making his way to the kitchen to fix himself breakfast. Suprisingly his mother was already awake huddled over a hot pan full of eggs and bacon. When he approached, she spun around with a bright smile on her face.

"Morning, honey." She greeted before turning back to the stove. The smell of food cooking was starting to make Nasu's mouth water, but he ignored it.

"Why are you awake?" He asked curiously as he sat down on the dinner table. His mother stopped what she was doing to give him an incredulous look.

"What do you mean. It's academy test day, what kind of mother would I be if I didn't fix you a hearty breakfast before you went." She said clearly upset.

"Gomen, kaa-san." He apologized. He didnt hate that his mom wad awake, he actually appreciated it. She was just usually in bed during the time Nasu woke up. "You usually aren't awake at this time is all."

After all the eating and 'good lucks', the time for Nasu to get to the Academy was nearing. Before he left however, he made it a point to hug his mother, and go through a few taijutsu poses and study guides. He didn't know what to expect at the test especially with a teacher as strict as Daru-sensei.

After some brief last-second training, Nasu started on his way to the Academy. From his house, there was two ways to get to the school. The short way, which took about 5-6 minutes tops, and the long way which took 15 minutes. The young Uchiha wasn't in a rush to get to school, so he took the longer way.

Nasu stuffed his hands in his pockets as he strolled through the busy streets of Konoha. The rain had stopped and now only a few droplets fell to the ground. Nasu put the hood of his short sleeved sweater up anyway. Along with rain, he hated getting his hair wet.
----
When the young Uchiha reached the testing room, all the seats were filled except one. Daru-sensei ushered him into a seat with a glare when he arrived slightly wide eyed.

"Now that we're all here. Everyone may begin the test. Remember, take your time. Read everything carefully, and good luck." Daru stated. The class erupted in 'Hai sensei's' as the test moderators begun the clock.

"You have 60 minutes. Go!"

Nasu flipped the paper over, and quickly got to work. The tests questions were complex, but not as hard as he had thought they would be. Although there were some he didn't know, the majority was ingrained in his mind even though written tests weren't exactly his forte.

When the timer rang signalling the first test was over, Nasu was surprised but nonetheless pleased with himself. Although he didn't finish all of the questions, he felt good about the ones that he did answer. He looked around the room as he got up and stretched. Most of the class had mixed reactions on their faces, while others showed clearly what they were feeling. Smug satisfaction or utter defeat.

Nasu strolled up to the front desk to hand in his test before hurrying to the location of the next test site. He wanted to get there early so he could get more time out of practice. Usually the proctors called up students alphabetically, so Nasu assumed that there would be some time to polish up on somethings.

At the second testing room he was shocked to find he was the first to get tested. As a proctor ushered him to the front of the class he masked his obvious annoyance with nonchalance.

"Please perform the substitution jutsu." Daru-sensei stated simply. Nasu reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. He then crumpled it up into a ball and lightly throwed it a few feet away. When the ball came to a still, he flashed through handsigns, and switched places with the ball effortlessly.

Daru nodded, wrote something on a clipboard, and continued. "Now, the transformation jutsu."

Nasu did the handsigns for the jutsu, and his appearance immediately changed to one of the Hokages. Daru circled around the newly transformed Uchiha before mumbling something in approval and scribbling some words in his clipboard.

"Final one." He murmered. "Clone jutsu."

This one was pretty simple for Nasu, so he tried to go above and beyond, and made six clones instead of the standard two. Daru motioned for him to go back to his seat and called up another student

When everyone finished testing, they were ushered over to the auditorium where they would receive their results. Nasu was confident in his abilities and wasn't too worried. At worst, he would be ranked third overall he thought.

Daru-sensei took to the stage to announce the results. Many kids were chattering and laughing, grateful that the test was over. But Daru quickly shut them up with a sharp yell. Everyone quieted and looked up to the stage expectantly. Most with anxiety, some with confidence, and others with hopelessness.

Daru cleared his throat as he began. "For many of you. This will be the first step in the beginning of your ninja careers. For others, motivation to work harder and do better next time."

The 48 year old teacher looked at every single one of his students. "Not every one is destined to become a shinobi. And for the rest of you, today will be sign... That maybe being a ninja is not for you. Either way I am proud to have called you my students, and honored to see your progress along the way."

On the podium, he grabbed a sheet of paper and cleared his throat once more. "Out of the 27 plus who have taken this test.. Only 9 graduated."

The class erupted in murmer, and shock. Even though Nasu had been so confident before, he couldn't stop his heart from racing with doubt. What about if he didnt pass? What if he overlooked some questions? He was snapped out of his musings when Daru-sensei began again.

"I will announce the top three students. They are as follows: Third place Nara Shikamoto, who passed with a 100% in the exam, but placed average in the final test."

"And runner up for Academy Student of the Year: Uchiha Shinko who scored an 85% in the exam, but placed 100% in the final test."

"The rookie of the year is Hyuga Cynthiera who placed both 100% on the exam and final test." The class erupted in applause, and Nasu clapped slowly. He was disappointed in himself for not winning Rookie, but was still glad that he passed.

Nasu went up to Cynthiera with a disgruntled look on his face. Now that the fear of failing had disappeared, it left Nasu feeling disappointed at himself for placing second.

"Don't act so cocky.. You only placed first because you had more time to prepare." He taunted, although he knew what he said was completely untrue. Cynthiera was one of those once-in-a-generation prodigies that everyone praised and loved. The two would go back and forth together in the schools leaderboards, and it pained Nasu that she ended up winning.

Nasu scowled at her, his hands stuffed deep into the pocket of his hoodie. "You better hope we don't face each other in the Chunin Exams.." He scoffed. "If you even make it there."

He turned around before she could respond to dap up some of his friends. Although he acted like he hated Cynthiera it was all in good fun. She was a good rival, and always pushed him to work harder.

"So, err.. I have some time before curfew." He started. "Do you want to go get something to eat?"

A girl ran past him yelling good luck, but before Nasu could respond she was already out the room.

Nasu shrugged, "I dunno, since you won rookie of the year I guess you can pick and I'll pay." In reality it was an excuse used because Nasu didn't know many restaurants because he barely ate out. His mom had a firm belief that any food outside of home was unhealthy.

As they walked, he couldn't help but admire how much nicer Cynthiera looked when she smiled. Usually she was all frowns, or had a stoic expression on her face. The young Uchiha blushed when he realized what he had been thinking about, and mentally berated himself.

Before they knew it, next week rolled around and the passers of the Academy Test were rallied to receive their headbands, and teammates. Daru-sensei, accompanied by several jonin who would be assigned a squad, made his way to the podium to announce to the congregation.

"Congratulations, again. Today is your first step in the Shinobi world." He voiced. After several moments of dialogue, he started passing out headbands. When it was his turn to receive one, Nasu chose one with a black cloth.

"Alright, now listen for your name as I assign squads." Daru announced. Although only 9 had passed, it sure seemed like it took forever for Nasu's name to get called.

He was suprised however when it finally did. "Team 12: Komei Namikaze, Uchiha Shinko," Nasu was not shocked at this, it was usual for squads to be arranged like this. Dead-last and top of the class. What surprised him was when Daru finished off with--"And Hyuga Cynthiera."

"Your genin sensei will be Kasai Nakamaru, please report to training grounds 27."

While everyone's sensei was already in the classroom, they had to meet up with their sensei at a training grounds.

Nasu strolled in a leisurely pace towards training grounds 27, his hands stuffed deep within his pockets. As he walked, he stared up at the clouds and released a sigh. Genin. Those 8 years of the academy led up to it. In the shinobi world, he was now considered an adult.

Lost in his musings, he didn't even realize when Komei come up to him. Flustered, he glanced at her and clicker his tongue, slightly annoyed. "Obviously," He racked his brain for her name but couldn't remember it. "Girl." He finished hastily.

Frankly, Nasu didn't really speak to the girl much during the Academy. She was always kind to everyone, but was picked on because she wasn't really good. In Nasu's eyes, she was a failure. The black sheep of the revered Namikaze clan who produced nothing but the best of shinobi.

At Cynthiera's harsh words he fixed her a glare and scoffed. "I could say the same, Hyuga." He replied coldly.

--

Kasai transformed himself into a tree when he saw his 'genin' arrive. His plan: surprise them with an attack. If they failed to notice him before then, he could quickly fail them and go back to his old way of living. He smiled wickedly at his dastardly plan.

Kasai scowled as he dispersed his tree transformation. Damned brats. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and scanned the group. The girl that spotted him first. Blonde hair, blue eyes a Namikaze. The second girl who was in a fighting stance had lavender eyes typical of the hyuga, and purple hair.

Kasais gaze shifted to the final genin, and the only male in the group. Pale skin, sharp features, and dark hair and eyes. An Uchiha by the looks alone.

"Ok, brats... So you found me." He shrugged a little. "Lets start with introductions, name, age, what you like, what you don't, hobbies, and goals for the future."

He looked at Nasu once again and tilted his head towards him.

"You, Uchiha, you can go first." He commanded.

Nasu nodded, a little shaken up, "My name is Shinko Uchiha. I'm 12 years old.

Kasai gave the Hyuga girl a dirty look. Typical Hyuga. Right off the bat she was impatient, and too arrogant for her own good. He would have to fix that... If she passed his test. His chocolate brown gaze turned to Komei, who seemed the most good natured and kind. Too kind for her own good.

Kasai would have to fix that too. He couldn't quite get a read on the Uchiha yet, but he seemed kind of like the hyuga, if not a more watered down version.

"The first step of being a great shinobi, is knowing the people you're working with." Kasai stated rather coldly.

"Also, you guys aren't actually genin yet." Kasai paused waiting for the gasps of shock or outrage by the genin. He was sure they knew nothing about a test that they had to take after they graduated.

"Yeah, so I would cut down on the 'tude, until you actually are true genin." He quipped.

Nasu raised an eyebrow, not entirely shocked by Kasai's sudden announcement. It was common for many jonin sensei's to launch a surprise test on their students to size them up. However this practice sort of died down after a few years.

The Uchiha scrunched his brows and scowled at the jonin. "We've already got our headbands, and passed the exams. You already know what we are capable of, why waste time and give us a stupid test?" The Uchiha was kind of pissed off at this. He wanted to quickly finish all the required missions and get recommended for the chunin exam, so he could showcase his talent and get promoted. All this test would do was waste his time. He glanced at his teammates to see their reactions
