My Act (1x1 between SkyFilms and buildaspaceship)

SkyFilms

Sir Sky, A Knight of RpNations Kingdom
When the past freak show host has passed away his son steps up with no intention on having a good time. But it seems it won't be that difficult with such kind 'Freaks'.

A week. It had been a week since the boys father had passed away leaving him to fend for himself though he was still so new to reality. Emery's father was a great man, very kind to those he considered family but not so much to his actual blood line. His mother had died so as his father traveled the world with his mobile act he left Emery with a close family friend rather then taking him.

The Freak Show is great, yes, he'd see them when they came to their home town and they all seemed to like the boy as he was young. When they came to the town he'd spend a single week with his father and the freak show cast but it seemed as he grew up his father only looked past him more and more until his death where it thought he deserved his place of Host.

Emery no longer had much interest in the show as he did as a child, and wondered as to why his father thought rather then his fortune his son would enjoy playing host more.

With an agitated sigh the boys steps ceased as he halted in front of the current home for the Freak Show Family. Most of the performance group had attended the funeral but he had strayed away from them leaving as soon as the ceremony had met its end.

Emery's bright emerald gaze looked around for a moment before readjusting his top hat and his grip on his cane before stepping through the entrance into the mobile training area where many of the 'Freaks' where practicing as expected.

"Hello," he greeted before removing his hat and bowing graciously to those who had heard him enter and glared at him as if he where the odd one. Only when he was standing normally once more and his hat was back upon his head did he continue speaking,

"I'm the son of your past Host, Henry Willow. My name is Emery it is a pleasure." He spoke kindly his amused smirk evident on his pale lips.

Nora's life had been turned upside down from the moment she took her first breath in this world. She was an orphan, or at least she presumed so, her father having never been traced or found, and she had to be pulled from her dead mothers fingers. The only family she had had was the man who had found her, the one who had pulled her from the dead and into the living, a travelling show host. He had raised her like she was his own child, much like all the other people in the show had done. She was family with everyone in the travelling show, she knew everyones names, their stories, and they all knew hers. She had at first grown up helping out around the camp and getting into peoples ways, she would bring life to the other children and the acts that came and went, but she soon began to show talents which reserved her a place in the freak show itself.

But it had been a week, her life had been turned upside down again. The man who she had considered a father had died. They had all known it was coming, that was true, but it didn't lessen the impact. And now, his son, or so it was told, was coming to take over the show. She roughly remembered his son from her childhood having met him at least once when they came into the host's home town, and she'd see him that whole week before they moved on again, and now he was taking over.

Nora didn't know what to think about this, the only life she'd ever known was being taken away from her and replaced and put into this new mans hands. He would be no match for his father, a few seemed to think, and others thought that he would be a great heir to the Freak Show Throne. But Nora didn't know where abouts to put her bets.

For the past week the acts had been practising in the training tent, though they weren't putting nearly as much effort into their performances as they would have if it had been two weeks ago, before his death. Even Nora's movements were sluggish, slow, a great sadness filling her. Filling everybody. That week they were all dressed in black, they would be until the new host arrived. While Nora was about to cut her hand off, stood at a table near the back of the training tent she heard a man enter. He greeted the other training acts, and Nora walked over to catch the first glimpse of the boy, or rather the man, who would be taking over the show.

Emery swapped glares with each performer, looking into their eyes rather then inspecting their physical features as he held a rather dull and uninterested expression much different then his fathers natural fun exterior with a caring gaze despite the situation. Collecting himself he shut his eyes momentarily as he took a deep breath, many of the people that stood in front of him he recognized from perhaps ten years ago. Their faces and bodies developing with their growing age. But as well as expected many of the past performers weren't there either,

"I understand that many of you where fairly close to my father and I understand if you'd prefer someone else rather then myself. I've heard many comments saying that I may never live up to the high set bar my father has set and that I am to young and inexperienced." Emery readjusted his top hat irritably,

"But sadly it doesn't quite matter what others may say because despite the opportunities I have been given through out this year I am not neglecting this one." The man pointed out, yes though he may despise taking on the role of host rather then his other propositions it was to somewhat prove himself to his father and to those he cared for. But as well, because he never saw his father smile as large or be as cheerful as he was when he stood in the ring introducing those he called family. Emery wished to experience it.

"But, I know many of you and understand your acts quite clearly from past observations and explanations." He opened his bright eyes raising a brow,

"But I'd like to know the pros and cons of our current show not the past, so is it possible for you all to do a run through of the present show case?" He proposed leaning into his cane to keep from putting any weight onto his right knee as he twirled his free index finger in a small tornado.

The tent was suddenly in chaos as the acts all got into their positions, there was pushing and shoving and people calling out to the other side of the room. People were retrieved quickly from other areas of the camp to sort out lighting and music, and a man not much shorter than a 10 year old boy walked over to the new host.

"Normally, sir, the host would introduce the acts... But seeing your predicament, I will take the honours today." The small mans voice was high pitched and loud, and he waddled towards the middle of the stage. Clearing his throat loudly, everybody else in the tent fell silent and made sure they weren't on stage. Nora took this as cue to sit in a chair in the front of where the audience would be, and the show began.

The small man introduced himself as Small Tybel, but didn't go into much detail about himself. Tybel wasn't so much of a regular act, and only really performed when the show was in desperate need of performers, which was, in honesty, very rare.

The first act came on the stage, introduced as The Dragon. He looked like an ordinary man, dressed in black leather that looked almost like scales. He ran through his act, which at first seemed kind of dull, he was juggling fire and speaking in a language that nobody could directly translate, but the act picked up its pace when the Dragon, or as Nora knew him, Thomas, began to breathe fire when he spoke, and eventually lit Tybels floor length coat on fire.

The acts came and went, showing what they could do and fighting to entertain the new host. Acts such as conjoined twins, tattooed men and bearded ladies, deformed young children and fat women that could eat their weight in front of an audience. But there were more amazing acts too, the ones such as the illusionists that made you think they were in one place when they were really in another. The mind readers, who pulled up an unwilling stagehand and spoke their thoughts aloud in a rather mocking voice. And finally, the wolf man. A hairy man who they had to keep in chains for the act, and who was actually quite harmless when going about daily life. They dragged him onto the stage, and made him walk around, pretending to showcase him to the audience. When suddenly, the wolf man broke free of the chains and everyone feigned surprise, even Nora. This was her time to shine.

The wolf came closer and closer and she found her heart beating in her chest nervously. She was always nervous before she performed her part of the show, which helped her to look like a frightened audience member. She put her arms up around her face in defence as the wolf lunged, and it bit its claws straight into her arm and pulled, throwing her severed arm to the floor. Nora started screaming and jumped to her feet. She wondered how the new host would be taking this.

Emery watched as each person scattered about despite their roles it seemed they all had a place to be as if he stood in the middle of the road in town square. Taking his time he limped over to a medium sized crate which stood in the middle of where he believed the audience would observe from and leaned against the edge quietly, inspecting each person that passed until a small almost child like man approuched him and explained the current state of affairs.

"Thank you," he spoke quietly in response before following the mans small form with his gaze as he stepped into the center of the training room. All where hidden except for a select few who he knew where to act as civilians enjoying the show like many others, taking this into account he listened to each introduction memorizing every act and how they where spoke of silently.

But from the beginning of the show his expression softened, looking more and more like his actual age as he enjoyed the show happily. And though the comedic moments where quite terrible and cheesy he couldn't help but chuckle lightly at a few of them recalling his heaps of laughter they would cause when he was a boy.

Emery watched as the performance dragged on, and made mental notes of improvement within his whirring mind. Observing each prop and person keenly, it didn't seem like any of the 'Freaks' disliked their job their smiles though practiced looking quite real.

Only when the wolf man as he had been titled was brought in did the bright and whimsicle mood darken and become more fearful this acting as their incredible ending.

When the Wolf attacked the fiery red head near him he tensed pushing off of the box so he stood strong his knuckles wightening. Though he knew it was an act that the girl had been strategically placed in that spot for the single act he couldn't suppress the anxiety that began to fill his veins.

"Halt." Emery suddenly barked unable to keep the plea hidden within, "please cease the show." He ordered with furrowed brows knowing he most likely looked like an idiot.

She couldn't believe what she had just heard. He had ceased the show, but why? Murmurs of confusion spread quickly around the tent and people began moving to crowd near him, including the wolf man, who was now stood up straight and had wiped the drool off his chin. Nora didn't join the crowd straight away, instead stooped to pick up her arm, she studied it. It always amazed her that this thing used to be her flesh, attached to her body. Her arm felt numb, and she rubbed her hand on it soothingly as she felt it begin to tingle. It always hurt after and during the bite, which made the screams of pain that she had to do real, but around this time she could complete the wolf mans act and start her own, the arm would regrow, and she would begin.

She joined the crowd then, and stood as close as she could to the new host. Host Emerald, or so her previous host had told the rest of the acts to call him. She was used to stage names by now, her own being Nora Limb, so it was no surprise that she was only told his host name and not his real name. She wondered why he had stopped the show again, what good reasoning to cut something short. She laughed to herself, was he a coward? Afraid of the wolf man? Or did he simply not like the acts? The whole prospect of a new host was something threatening itself, there was no telling what acts he would remove, and what acts he would keep. Nora bit her lip and smoothed out her dress with her hands, the one that had been bit off already grown back by now.

Some of the acts were whispering in the crowds, while they waited for an explanation, and Nora heard snippets of their words. "...Scared of the wolf man...", was one of the main rumours circulating around, and she heard a harsh word or so next to her coming from one of the deformed children, they called him weak. She stood on the girls toe and shot her a look that told her that he would have a reason for stopping this that wasn't just he was 'weak'. When the new host shushed them, the tent immediately fell quiet and everyone listened intently, including Nora.
