History:

Before his Black Exaltation at the hands of the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, Diplomat of Tearful Promises was one of Coral’s famous warrior-diplomats. He possessed much talent but little compassion and less scruples, especially when it came to attractive women. His nature got him left for dead as Fair Folk prey by the chief of a small island, but his Exaltation into the Moonshadow Caste saved his life. Little has changed since then, and his hedonism appeals to some of the more debauched ghosts in the Underworld, for whom he throws magnificent orgies. Yet his hedonism has gotten him in trouble when he was on a ship bound for Coral from Onyx with a young labourer and his beautiful wife. Sensing her distress at leaving her family behind, Tearful Promises offered her unlife as his concubine in order to seduce her.

But the husband took exception and attacked the Diplomat, who struck him down and left him for dead, approaching the wife. But he ended up in the sea as the labourer Exalted into a Lunar and wounded him with silver talons. After being rescued (and punished) by his Deathlord, Tearful Promises has decided to search for the cursed Lunar and that beautiful woman. Rumours of a Twilight sorceress allied with the Lunars of the Southwest have reached him, and so he wonders…

Personality

Tearful Promises lives only to indulge himself and obey his liege. No matter how disgusting or degrading the pleasure, he enjoys it to the fullest and corrupts others to do the same. He hates equally as well and looks forward to having a certain Lunar’s head mounted above the bed where he intends to take his beautiful wife again and again. He wonders if she is the Twilight sorceress Brightness, and has discussed plans with his liege to corrupt her.

Appearance

Monochromatically beautiful, Tearful Promises wears robes made from the black silk winding clothes of the rich and powerful, sewn with teardrop-shaped pieces of crystal and glass from broken dishes used for grave-goods. His soulsteel daiklave and reinforced buff jacket are never far away, both fashioned with teardrops.

NB: Tearful Promises is inspired by the thought 'What if Swan went wrong?' In many ways, he is the canon Eclipse's dark mirror, the diplomat who uses his talents for selfish ends. The fact that he's totally obsessed with the Lunar Shadow Ripper and his wife only makes him even more of a bastard.

Minus the ties to Shadow Ripper and Brightness, he would probably make a fairly standard NPC in an Abyssals or Solar game.
