Name: Misrey Tengu Sersikami
Age: 460Gender: Female
Sexuality: Pansexual
Species: Tengu (Crow yōkai)
Occupation: Archery, swordsmanship and martial arts instructor
Appearance:
Height:
5'8
Weight:
126lb/ 57kg
Unusual Marks:
Severe scarring on her shoulder blades.
Species Specific appearance traits:
None... (That are noticeable, considering she never shows her shoulders)
Clothing style:
Gothic, old Victorian, occasionally Japanese (In a gothic style yukata or kimono), wears only black.
Species Details:
Japanese yokai, specifically the Tengu, are incredibly secretive, and very little is truly known about them. However, Japanese folklore depicts Tengu as a type of legendary creature found in Japan and are also considered a type of Shinto god (kami) or yōkai (supernatural beings). Although they take their name from a dog-like Chinese demon (Tiangou), the tengu were originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey, and they are traditionally depicted with both human and avian characteristics. The earliest tengu were pictured with beaks, but this feature has often been humanised as an unnaturally long nose, which today is widely considered the tengu's defining characteristic in the popular imagination. (Misrey scoffs at this...)
Buddhism long held that the tengu were disruptive demons and harbingers of war. Their image gradually softened, however, into one of protective, if still dangerous, spirits of the mountains and forests.
Whenever Misrey hears of her peoples history from others, she merely raises an eyebrow and laughs...
What she has revealed, is that Tengu live mostly in a remote village in the mountains of Japan, that is only accessible through flight, and only Tengu can find their hometown. There is, however, some truth to the legends, and some of her powers relate to Tengu folklore. And, in Japan Tengu live amongst people, most looking just like any other person, and own a few important businesses in the country, being a powerful yokai clan.
Weakness:
Her scars on her shoulder blades, when another person touches them... Well, she hates in enough that they're permanently covered by clothes.
She's vulnerable at certain times of the month, when she must do her duty on the full and new moon, and sometimes other nights.
She can see perfectly well, but her eyes have their own weaknesses that she refuses to talk about.
Becomes temporarily blind when she reads thoughts,
Strengths:
Tengu magic cloak; one of her kimono allows her to turn invisible at will when she wears it. But it is also invisible, so it is unclear when she's wearing it.
Magic fan; She always has this fan on her person, which can manipulate wind (among other things), and is made from her own feathers.
She is a master of the bow and martial arts, and is licensed to teach Kendo, Taekwondo, Aikido, Judo, Karate, Kyūdō, Ninjutsu and a few others.
She can read the thoughts of others, but when she does, she becomes blind for the duration of the time she's reading them.
Social attitude towards their species:
Unknown in London by most, but in Japan there is a spectrum of views, some see them as tricksters, some as angry spirits, some as dumb creatures, and some as benevolent gods.
Personality:
She's incredibly secretive, and is often staring off into the distance. She's lonely often, although she would never tell anyone that, as she's a prideful Tengu, and proud of her heritage (even if she hasn't told anyone what that is yet). Fiercely loyal, and protective of crows, and this extends to any allies she gains. She's mostly casual and passive, and enjoys socialising with new people, although she's distant until she gets to know someone, but still warm and friendly. Age has turned her a bit mad...
Quirks:
Her eyes look as if she's blind (Which she is on occasion)
A bit mad
Likes:
Crows, raven, magpie
Animals in general, as long as they aren't enemies to crows
Fruit, and she's especially loving of persimmons
Jewellery, gems, silver, shiny things
Velvet
Flirting (in a mad sort of way), especially with female vampires...
Practising martial arts and her sword and archery skills
Dislikes:
Nuts
Ignorance, stupidity, when people refuse to admit she's right
Death threats
When the voices start whispering...
Short Bio:
She came from Japan some time ago, although she refuses to mention when, or why. She lives permanently in Britain now, and spends most of her time in London, but travels all over the mainland. She works as an independent archery and martial arts teacher, and is very well payed, thanks to her amazing skills in all sorts of arts, although she only considers it as a second job to her main, most important role.
