Other Metric or imperial

So, I'm an American who likes to write fiction, America is one of three countries on the world that still use imperial measurements. Everywhere else from Latin America to east Asia use the metric  system, so when I describe distance between places, should I use Imperial or Metric?

I'd personally use whatever system you're used to, honestly. All it takes is a simple Google search to convert imperial and metric, if your partner doesn't know one of them.
