  Born in Chile, Max grew up between places as his family followed his mother's career around the world. His gloom and biting humor made him popular in his teenage years. Though he became the mastermind behind a number of dubious escapades, he always timed them so that he moved away before he had to face the consequences.
  
  
  To keep in touch, he played games with his friends online, where he discovered his knack for strategy. By college, he was leading various teams to victory on the national level. His reputation earned him money as a consultant. He majored in Literature against his better judgment and became an English teacher for a short time before becoming restless.
  
  
  He married his first wife (Sarah) early on, and tried harder than ever to become a normal, sedentary person. They even had a daughter together (Pia), but in the end Max couldn't take it. Sarah suggested a divorce, and Pia still visits her father over the summer.
