Mateo is upbeat, lively and approachable. He's always down for a good prank or two, though he's been known to take things a little too far, sometimes resulting in lost friendship. Unlike brownies or goblins, his pranks aren't meant to be mean, and never result in hurting anyone, they're just his form of entertainment. The trouble being that he doesn't understand that not everyone wants to be pranked.
He has an odd sense of humor, bordering on mean, that people either love or hate. Generally the latter. Most people don't appreciate his brand of fun, but he doesn't see himself as annoying. As far as he's concerned, he's the funniest guy around.

Biography:
Mateo hails from a very large family. With sixteen older brothers and sisters, and three younger siblings, life proved hard. Meals were something that he often scavenged for on his own, because the likelihood of there being anything left at all after his band of siblings positively attacked the meal was slim to none. This same mentality was something he clung to in almost every aspect of his life. It was just easier to be out on his own, than it was to be with his family.
He spent most of his childhood alone in the woods, bounding around, trying to make the best of a bad situation. As far as Imps went, he was a rather lonely one, and so most of his days ere spent trying to find friends. When he was thirteen, he happened upon a lost girl. She was younger than him by quite a bit, huddled up and crying. It wasn't long before the sight had him feeling bad for her.
He hopped down off the branch he'd been perched upon, shifted into his human form, and greeted the little girl with a smile. They spent two hours in the woods searching for her family before Mateo became bored and frustrated. With clear instructions for the girl to stay exactly where she was, Mateo shifted back into his imp form, and bounced off the treetops in search of anyone looking as they were missing a child.
A few minutes later, he was leading a very distraught mother and teenage son to the lost little girl.
After a tearful greeting, the mother - Eva, as she introduced herself - turned to Mateo, asking about his family, and why he was off in the woods on his own. He did the only thing he could - he lied. He told her that he was an orphan who had run away and lived in the woods. (What were the chances his parents would even notice that one of their twenty children was gone?) Eva positively insisted that he join her and her family.
His secret wasn't kept for long. Eventually he was outed for what he was, and his adoptive mother - sweet as she was - immediately went to work trying to find a way to make the teenager feel accepted. She heard of Orion Academy, and soon enough, he was shipped away, for adventure, fun, and hopefully, to make a few friends just like him.

- An avid lover of all things practical joke. From the classics, like a whoope cushion on a chair, to the more mean, (but just as funny), like an air-horn on the backside of a door.
- Anything salty, his favorite food of all time is crackers.
- Jokes, especially the eye-roll variety. He loves those stupid little jokes, and makes a habit of telling them to anyone who will listen.
Dislikes:
- Containers made of clear crystal - it's literally the only thing that can capture and hold him. Once captured, he'd forced to act as a slave to his captor. Of all the vile, loathsome, positively revolting, dirty tricks! Those things should all be smashed and burned.
- Anything too sweet, most people seem to think it's because he's dieting, but his pallet just simply doesn't agree with it.
- Up-tight and anal personalities. He gets it, he really does. There's a time and a place for everything, and if someone simply can't ever loosen up, he has a hard time dealing with them.

- Crystal containers - he'll smash them given half a chance.
- When in his smaller imp form, he fears most predators. Especially cats. Nasty buggers.
