About
Drink your coffee.

Two boys, one challenge, one fail, one big consequence.

Two friends agreed to a challenge with the rest of the class, the decision about what the losers would do would be made afterwards. However what they didn’t know was that the challenge was really hard to fulfil. Despite their confidence in eating food, they didn’t see this one coming. They had to go to Roppongi [Tokyo], the challenge was to eat a humongous bowl of katsudon [deep-fried pork cutlets over rice] that was topped with eggs too. The bowl weight a whopping 3kg, which was a portion for six people. Finish it in 30 minutes and it was yours for free. If you failed, it would cost you 2700 yen. The class funded for the challenge and went with the two but once they sat in front of the gigantic portion, they knew they weren’t going to manage to eat all of it.

They failed so they had to face the consequences for even accepting this challenge from the mischievous students. They had to work at a maid café for one semester. They thought they wouldn’t be able to even get inside but it so happened that one of the student’s cousin was the boss of it. They had to dress up in a separate room of course appointed by the boss, and would do what the girls did. Even having to morph their voices into a more feminine one.

Was it him or did his life really take a turn for the worst? If only he didn’t accept that silly challenge from his classmates he wouldn’t be in this kind of situation. Rubbing his forehead as even the boss of the whole building didn’t seem to be against them helping out. Well, it seemed like they were short on hands so it was nice to be of use but not like THIS. Standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom his face going paler with the seconds he stared at himself. Freaking hell, he had to admit that he actually looked like a girl now that he was dressed like this. And black suited everyone so that was good.

Letting his face bump against the glass as he let out a really deep sigh, not feeling like leaving the building anytime soon. The worst part out of all of this was that he had to wear a fake bra. Hell, they even went as far as to do his make-up at home. Blame his older sister for that one. She found out about it as she pestered him for the true answer and he just didn’t want to be tormented any longer. She did promise to keep it a secret, only when she could do his make-up every day. She really loved that stuff. He didn’t even know how much of it she had in her room as she came with practically a handbag full into his room. Making note to never step foot in there. She even came with a wig in hands which oddly suited him. He honestly looked like a girl right now.

However he had to do this. It was only a semester and he was done with everything. Dusting himself off and trying to say some words of courage to himself. Even raising his voice a little. It was still not as high as that of a girl but he could go through with it. Nodding curtly towards himself, slapping himself on the cheeks before opening the door and going out in the open. Screaming mentally as after all he still didn’t want to do this. It was fake courage. He couldn’t do it. Nope. Just as he was about to turn around though the menacing threat of the class resounded clearly. FUCK.

Akatsuki Ren
"You look so cute Ren-chan!" The voice rang out in his mind as the wave of defeat washed over him, this wasn't just the feeling of failing at something- No. This was the wave of a man who's very soul was to be crushed, the kind meant to rend the Earth bare. Just a few hours before all this one of his classmates, Aimoto Kaoru or Kaoru-chan, had decided that she would take charge in making Ren into look feminine enough to pass for one of the maids. For now he sat in the changing room of the cafe they'd been hired at, while his friend, and accomplice in failure, had likely been going through his own struggle over the situation. In all honesty being dressed like this and having to deal with customers who he may or may not know wouldn't be the worst of this, of all times for that girl to speak endearingly of him it had to have been in this situation. A light sigh escaped him, if they hadn't taken the dare then maybe they wouldn't even be in this situation. The taste of katsudon was still fresh on his memory, that would from here on be known to him as the taste of defeat while victory remained uneaten. His eyes moved to the walls and for some reason glaring at them seemed like the best option, the establishment hadn't wronged them in any way, the little bit of help he could offer was gladly given but he'd prefer to come in as a butler or even kitchen staff.

Messing with the hem of the maid outfit felt far too foreign to him, the fact he had to be dressed as a girl all the way down to his undergarments just proved as another challenge and another layer of embarrassment on the cake of false maidenhood. Given that he wasn't as quick to change as his partner in punishment, in part because getting used to the undergarments was a challenge, he had been left in their segregated changing room on his own. Standing he took in a breath and steadied himself before looking into the mirror, that was probably meant to see if their wigs were on right. "W-welcome back m-master!" He attempted but his body attempted to cringe as each syllable left his mouth, his voice had been closer to the goal than the numerous attempts from the night prior- but still a distance from what the 'ideal voice' of a maid. Blue eyes stared back at him in the mirror as he just began to contemplate, which one of their classmates had suggested this bet again? Or more importantly, why didn't he turn it down when the risk of this situation relied entirely on a fifty-fifty shot?

Nothing he could do about it now so there wasn't a point in whining about it, he struggled with his phrase for a few more moments before managing to say it without obviously cringing. That was the first step towards succeeding as a maid, that little bump of confidence did nothing to the overwhelming wave that berated him, just gritting his teeth and baring it would be the best way to get through this. All he had to do was survive as a maid for one semester and then he would never have to look back on this, it would all just be a funny story to tell to his grandchildren- no, not even his future lover should know of what could happen under this roof. Wallowing aside he made his way to the door and straightened his posture a bit, this was the punishment he was supposed to be enduring so facing it with honor was the only option he should be taking. With a nod he pushed forward and shut the door to the changing room behind him and as it clicked shut he continued forward.

He didn't really know much of the other staff outside of seeing them briefly when he had been entering, those glances weren't anywhere near enough for him to tell their appearances. Flashes of hair-color and clothing didn't provide much, sure he'd gathered something of them but nothing substantial. They probably still had a little bit of time before any customers would bother to show up, right? As long as that stayed true then he could at least peruse the establishment and possibly make introductions with newly established co-workers, a scouting venture if you would. Now the next issue came to light and the thought quickly made itself known to him, 'Where do I even start?'

Kaya sighed as she waddled down the street from her apartment to the cafe where she worked as a maid. She always thought it was best to drop off her book bag at home before going to work, because there were a lot of sketchy folks that visited and who knows what they might try to steal from the maids' personal items if they had the chance. "Oof...come on little one, why must you make mommy have so much pain?" She asks down at her distended belly. It was true that she had 2 months left of her pregnancy. but she felt like she was going to explode at any moment. Kaya could feel others, especially at school, staring. It was like they never saw a pregnant girl before.

Another sigh was let out as the girl snapped out of her thoughts as she stopped outside the front door to the cafe. Pulling her shirt down to make sure her belly was covered and running her fingers through her long, black hair to make sure it wasn't a mess before pulling the door open and stepping inside. "Good afternoon!" She calls out to see who was here already. Kaya waddled towards the back where the changing rooms were so she could get into her uniform. Just then, two girls step out of the men's changing rooms....Wait! "Gin and Ren is that you?" She stifled a giggle as she stopped. "You two look adorable!"

Have you ever looked at something and thought to yourself, Now this is a place I want to be in? Well, Shuichi certainly has. Though, he's only thought about it after he had taken the job - around a month after he had entered the Maid Cafe. It all started with a simple debt to the owner after a certain incident involving a bicycle and a car and one hell of a mess. It was something he can fully laugh at now but that time was truly nerve-wracking for them and he felt fortunate that the owner just told him that he could pay him off by working as a security guard to this cafe he owned. Seeing it as the easy way out, Shuichi immediately went with him and started working.

And he can't say he ever regretted working in the establishment instead of paying him off. After the debt was paid, he already felt close to the staff - close enough that he didn't even hesitate to continue working there despite his already comfortable life of the bar. They were all amusing in their own sense. And so here he was, five years into the job and still working as a security guard for them. It wasn't bad pay, it gave him enough money for some extra expenses too. He didn't have to do much too, just stand around for 8 hours - patrol around the cafe and inside the cafe, maybe escort some of the girls back home to make sure they are safe.

And now they even have two new recruits. Two male recruits for the maids. It was a shock to all that was involved but Shuichi was looking forward to what would happen. Shuichi wasn't allowed anywhere near the dressing room at the start and end of the shifts for obvious reasons so he hadn't been able to see them yet. He helped with arranging the chairs so that the maids wouldn't have to. He got there a bit early after all and he really didn't mind. Once he was done putting all the chairs down and everything looked to be right - he's already been there for five years but he was never sure how the maids arranged things - he headed off to the manager's office to bug Erika. He'd introduce himself to the newbies when he has the chance.

Knocking twice, he entered the office without a care in the world. "Erika~" He called out as he entered. "We're about to open yeah? You should give those boys a bit of encouragement and some tips and tricks from the longest running employee of this here beloved cafe." Shuichi continued with a teasing lilt to his voice.

Oshiro MomokaK.jpgToday was a good day. Finally, after being understaffed and having to work their tail-ends off for what felt like forever, they were getting extra help. It didn't matter that they were dudes. Actually, Momoka could just have them do some of the heavier lifting. Oh, the possibilities! No more having to carry 4 tables' worth of dishes. It would be so nice having 2 extra sets of hands. It wasn't clear to her why they were working at the café now but as long as they were hard workers, she didn't care. They better not think that just because they don't want to be here that they get to slack off!

Momoka, or Momo as many of her friends called her, opened up her locker. She honestly loved her job. Well, mostly because of the cute uniforms. The ruffles, bows, headbands, everything was so cute! The only downside was that the cutesy dress didn't help her look older. Due to her short stature and young face, she was often mistaken for a young girl. It was great when buying amusement park tickets, not so great for applying for a job. Some customers loved it though, calling her 'moe' and 'loli'. Plus, it was kind of a confidence booster to be told she was cute all the time.

Giving herself one last look over in the mirror, she twirled. Her skirt gently flowed upwards before settling back around her knees. She was ready! Momoka walked out of the changing room to see three people. One was heavily pregnant - Kaya. "Kaya!" The girl greeted excitedly, "I missed you!" It was something Momoka always said, even if it had only been an hour since she had seen someone. In a strange way, Kaya almost seemed like a mother to Momo. Even if Kaya was 2 years younger than herself. Maybe it was because the girl was so much more mature.

Momoka's attention turned towards the two new maids. Wow, for guys they both were super cute! "Ah, newbies! I love you already! The other day we were completely swamped and I was thinking 'y'know, we could really use some help around here'!" The tiny girl was almost bouncing in excitement. "But, they would have to be cute, y'know? I mean, what's the point if your maids aren't even cute?" She rambled. "You both fit the bill perfectly!" Momoka paused for a moment, realizing her own rambles. "Ah, I'm talking too much. I'm Momoka. You can call me Momo!"

So the two new boys were wearing maid outfits..Right. What was the manager thinking? Was her life so pitiful she needed to take it out by forcing two boys to pretend to be girls.. and work as maids?!
This was reaching new levels of... “Oh shit she needs therapy.” At the very least somebody besides Kaede had to be thinking how messed up this seemed. Not that working at a maid cafe wasn’t already unusual but hey, don’t judge!
It was her own life decisions and there was far worse that a person could make.
Glancing at the two fake girls. They at least looked convincing enough that she hoped nobody would find out or people might question the establishment itself.
“So this is your guy’s punishment, I feel bad for your predicament. But you should be careful. If you’re not convincing, it could reveal yourselves and that’d ruin all our reputations for good. So keep up.”

“I’m the most efficient here so you may as well take a few tips from me.”
If anything she would keep this train wreck from going down as long as possible.

From her spot in the kitchen, Bailey was looking on at the interactions of her coworkers, including the new ones; with music playing in her earbud (specifically the left one). One of the new maids looked, well… it was most easily described as ‘depressed.’ And no one on the planet wanted to flirt with a depressed maid— okay, that wasn’t fair. There was probably at least someone who wanted to flirt with a depressed maid, but Bailey was confident that person wouldn’t be on the premises. Surely, Shuichi would slap someone who was that weird up.

Now, granted, from Bailey’s enlightened perspective, anyone who seriously went to a cafe where the waitresses were dressed as maids, and then gave them money in return for attention and feeling like someone way out of their league wanted them was weird. Still, in the interest of not drawing the real freaks out of the woodwork (they already had a pregnant chick, they didn’t need a depressed one), Bailey was silently hoping the new ones would straighten up and at least pretend to be happy. It wasn’t hard, was it? Bailey did it every day.

Bailey visible winced when Momo started talking (too loud, too excitable, too fast), and grabbed the hanging right earbud, popping it into her empty ear. With the voice drowned out, Bailey was able to focus on the important things in life: food. She turned away and looked down at the plate with her morning… morning-ish snack waiting for her on it. Bailey looked out at the particularly upset looking newbie, and sighed. Grumbling, she yanked the earbuds out of her ear and stuffed them into her pocket with as much aggression as a tiny girl could show, and stomped out of the kitchen, holding the plate with a singular, fluffy, butter covered pancake, and accompanying fork on it, heading toward the group of her coworkers.

Once she arrived, she thrust the plate out to the new maid in black, “here, dude. Eat this and maybe try to fake a smile? Nobody in the universe wants to flirt with a depressed maid, and you look like you should be in therapy, not a maid cafe.” She explained, waiting with a tapping foot for the maid to take it. “Trust me, this whole thing will go better if you just… eat it. Nothing cheers you up like food.”

Everybody was so cheerful in their own way once they laid eyes on the two newbies: Ren and himself. He didn’t expect this kind of reaction actually as he was expecting them to be more… wary. Confusion spread upon his face as he looked at the variety of people, one by one they had something unique unlike those at his school who tried to be popular but the biggest amount failed incredibly at it. He never got that sort of thing and just wanted to stray away from that standard. Probably why he got to be seen as a “delinquent” or something like that. He wouldn’t be too shocked if people started to gossip behind his back. Meaning that he was somehow important enough to be talked about.

Ok, now back to the café or he would really be just spacing out into nothingness. Heck, if he was drooling he’d be doomed. Blinking rapidly before trying his hardest to smile at the compliment he received from a girl that looked like a kid. Could he even call it a compliment that he looked like a girl? Honestly, conflicting feelings to the maximum here. ”Thank you and nice to meet you all.” He responded to them, not feeling like thanking them one by one which took too much effort right now.

He got a shock when he suddenly got pancakes shoved into his hands. It smelled pretty good and now that he thought about it, he was pretty hungry as well. ”Thanks…” He said and stuffed some into his mouth, making the corners turn upwards naturally by the sweet taste. ”So good~” He nearly purred at the taste of it. Pausing however as he realized what he was doing. Scraping his throat and looking down at the plate in embarrassment. Licking his lips as to not waste anything though. Gobbling the whole thing up which made his body relax just a bit despite the environment that he was in. Well, it was more the clothes he was wearing.

The cafe hadn't even opened yet and its manager had already burned through three cigarettes; that was either impressive given that the manager had been there two hours beforehand as she often was, or depressing because it was still before noon. Erika hadn't counted on it being one of those days but life had a funny way of kicking her while she was down. Last night, as with nearly every night for the past...as long as she could remember, Erika went to her apartment where she lived alone, burned her attempt at cooking dinner, walked to a konbini for some fried chicken and spicy mustard and two cans of Sapporo despite having about seven still in her fridge. She watched a medical drama and woke up at one in the morning having fallen asleep at her table, one and a half beers gone, and forced herself to crawl into her bed. She didn't get drunk, which was a rather big win for her, but when she woke up and came to work with the attitude of 'not having another night like that ever again', a smile on her face and a spring in her step, it only took one trip to her email for the mood to be dashed completely.

Erika had gotten used to people she knew from school and university celebrating their successful lives and marriages and families but when she got an invitation to a wedding from Hisako Miyawaki, it stung in ways she never thought possible. Hisako was a nobody in high school. Girls bullied her, guys pulled the classic 'give her a love letter and then crush her hopes and dreams' just because she happened to be a bit more rounded than the other students. Erika didn't engage in the bullying but she didn't exactly fight to stop it. But now that chunky target was getting married? How did that even work? And why didn't she keep alcohol in her office? Never before had she wanted one as badly as she did when reading that news; and to think she still had to worry about managing the place. How could she, what with her mood now more sour than a midori sour? Three cigarettes and her head using her desk as a brick wall-slash-pillow would have to suffice.

When she heard the knocking she naturally assumed it was the sound of her biological clock warning her of how little time she had left and how utterly pathetic her life was, but as with all of Erika's hopes, dreams, aspirations, and potential suitors she was sorely mistaken and left unpleasantly surprised. Erika lifted her head, the next week's schedule chart and expected financial sheets clinging to her cheek as she was snapped back to the reality. It was Shuichi, probably the only one who could get away with the comment of seniority in the workplace at her expense. "Shu...don't you know to knock?" It only occurred to her after she said it that the knocking sound was probably in fact Shuichi, but that didn't matter right now.

"Can't the other maids do that? That's what I pay them for." Erika pulled the documents from her face and set them back down on her desk. "The only tips I can give them is to never get your hopes up because life is nothing but crushing ennui. But that's not very managerial is it? Tell the staff I'll give my little speech in...I dunno...five minutes?" Erika took the opportunity to breathe into her hand and give it a quick sniff. Nicotine and stale beer. Super professional. "Better make it ten."

It was going to be one of those days.

Akatsuki Ren
The question of where to start was answered almost immediately as his coworkers began to show up in no particular order. The strangest part was probably that they all seemed so willing to accept him and Gin, well for the most part, and this false persona they were dealing with had been enforced to some degree. Taking a look at each of the members he had managed to distinguish the different flashes of color that made up the people he'd seen earlier. Starting off the roster had been a pregnant woman, who another referred to as Kaya, she seemed like someone he must've known as she called out his name. But for the life of him he couldn't remember who she was, a foggy memory crossed his mind of a time when a girl attempted to speak with him in class- granted he'd been two-hundred thousand points into his Tetris® match so he didn't respond. Regardless of whether or not he remembered her, she wasn't bad-looking in the slightest. He had never really been attracted to pregnancy, since that typically meant someone was taken or involved in something less than savory, but she had a cute face. The next girl, who identified herself as Momo, arrived close behind the other. From how she acted and sounded an unrelenting amount of enthusiasm appeared to pour out of the tiny individual.

The two girls appeared to be rather close, though the girls way of speaking appeared to carry over into her other statement just as much. This girl probably stood to about his chest in height, another cute one. The next to step into the fray was a guy, the way he spoke was much calmer than the smaller one who came before him, he appeared to be the 'calm and collected' one of the three he'd met thus far. The man had made himself known as Jun, he was a fairly handsome guy though Ren didn't swing that way and quickly wrote that off, he seemed like a friendly individual- along with the least aberrant of the bunch. He didn't really have room to talk though, he was one of the guys standing there in a maid's clothing. Glancing slightly off from this trio he noticed another member approaching, she seemed to be observing them as well and soon approached. The blonde didn't identify herself from what he could tell, instead it seemed that she wished to advise them despite the snarkier vibes he'd been getting from her.

After a second of processing what each of them said he could feel the impact of the words, 'adorable' and 'cute', both words felt like they'd just punched him in the stomach. Those adjectives being directed at him didn't feel right at all, though that could've just been from his lack of experience having them directed at him, but he was a 'girl' now. His arms moved to his sides and his upper body moved forward as he bowed to them, a simple sign of respect, "Thank you very much. I- we'll do our best!" he spoke, this time finally matching the feminine tone he'd been looking for. It wasn't as high and, for lack of a better word, girly as most would be but it would probably work on those who came into a cafe for the sheer purpose of looking at maids. Some of the degenerates would probably become even more enthused if they learned of him and Gin acting as cross-dressers. The thought forced a cold chill up his spine, it was a repulsive thought.

Standing back up, and straightening himself to a normal height, he glanced over to Gin and the newest girls interaction. The male to female ratio in this place was expected, but still something he didn't fully prepare for, as another yet another cute girl stood there. The scene that played out was something unexpected, the maid had an actual tsundere hired- from the looks of it she wasn't acting it either... they had an in-the-blood tsundere. Ren had been friends with Gin for a good while now, the exact amount of time slipped his mind for the moment, and had seen many of the antics he'd been up to. Participating in them was another story all together, probably best left unsaid if they wanted to keep this job for the duration of their punishment. That face though, the appearance of unadulterated; 100%; childlike joy was a priceless emotion to catch on Gin, though it was strange how it brought up the 'cute girl' aspect that he put out. Maybe a smile really did mean the difference between a cute maid and a maid you didn't-want-to-touch-with-a-ten-meter-pole.

A small smirk came to his own face at this sight, quickly this faded as he realized he hadn't introduced himself to his new coworkers. "I'm Akatsuki Ren. You can call me Ren, or any nickname you might come up with- your choice." He had returned to his normal voice when saying this, there wasn't a need to hide it unless customers were here anyways, it just seemed to be the more professional option. 'That was probably a good enough introduction, right? If not then I just have to survive for one-semester with them... that's the deal after all.' A small smile came to his lips, he'd have to maintain a smile when working so might as well get used to the feeling.

Shuichi was used to the smell of smoke and nicotine swirling around him - the bar was very lax with its smoking policies - and he was used to smelling it inside the manager's office. After all, he had burst into this place more times than he could count and Erika had only gotten angry a few times. Seeing her head on the desk and the relatively gloomy aura of the area already told him a lot. So it was a bad day today huh? Probably another reminder in her life that she was doing something wrong. "Geez Erika, don't you know how to listen?" He bit back as he strode forward, closing the door behind him to make sure that the others don't realize that the manager was smoking in her own office. He should probably get angry at that and enforce the ground rules - but she was the manager so it wasn't like he could do much. "Bad day huh?" He mumbled to himself but loud enough for her to hear him.

"Haven't seen them yet but I'm pretty sure they're being accosted by the others by now." It wouldn't be long until they have to take to the floor and they all had to get their introductions out of the way. There was also the fact that they had to teach the guys what to do and what not to do - but that could be learned while the store was open. He rubbed the back of his head as he sat down on the chair with the backrest in front of him and using that to cross both arms on it and propping his head on top. He pulled a face with her tip. "Yeah, not very managerial at all. You should pull back on the pessimism a bit, might help you too." He'd drunk with her enough to know what sort of problems ails her everyday life. Shuichi couldn't hope to relate to her at all - he was, after all, at the state of his life where he wasn't going to wish for anything more. He wasn't exactly successful but he didn't exactly pursue anything that would make him dream big. There were only so many things a college dropout could be in the current society.

"The smell's sticking to your uniform too." He pointed out; if she was going to worry about the smell, he'd have her worry about it all the way. "I have a perfume that should mask its scent, at the cost of you smelling like me." He offhandedly said as he dug into his inner pocket and procured a small glass bottle, offering the alternative so that she wouldn't have to embarrass herself in front of the new recruits because they caught her on a bad day. He might tease her all the time, but he wasn't cruel enough to just let her be. A five year friendship at least warranted some concern for the other.

"And look, we can go drinking after. Hold out long enough and I'll treat you to a bottle or two." He suggested. True, drinking away your problems is seldom the answer to your problems. True, being an alcoholic would do no favors for you or for your body. He understood all of that perfectly well, but by this point, they were at a point of no return. "Tell me everything later?" He asked, a soft tone invading his voice instead of the usual sharp and teasing ones. It was usually one he adapted when he was trying to coax someone into feeling more at ease. Just needed to get through one day in the maid cafe and they should be fine.

Though this day in particular did not seem like the type of day that would be easy. His mind wandered to how the boys would fair in their new environment of having to act like girls. Yes, it was very funny but so many things could go wrong. He'd have to be careful of that. It would be catastrophic if someone were to - say - find out about their crossdressing companions. Sure, some people get even more... interested in that but he'd really rather not have any of that on his plate. Not today, anyway. He stifled a sigh as he buried his face deeper into his arms while staring at Erika, wondering what she would do next.

K.jpgMomoka pouted, puffing out her cheeks as she looked at Kaede. "Hey! What do you mean you're the most efficient? If I were any more efficient, I would explode!" Her hands were now on her hips, emphasizing her sass. She turned back towards the two new maids. "My main advice is to remember to have some fun with it. Even if you don't want to be here." Her tone took a less excited and more sincere turn. Momo really wanted the two boys to enjoy their time here, even if it wasn't their choice to be here.

Suddenly the room filled with a warm and sweet smell. Momo's eyes were drawn to the plate being handed to the new maid. Oh, and Bailey was there too. "Oooh, you're lucky, newbie. Bails' pancakes are the best!" She loved the cafe's food and it wasn't an exaggeration to say both their cooks were absolutely amazing. Their sweets especially. Momo loved sweets. Anything chocolatey she automatically loved. It wasn't a coincidence she named one of her kittens Choco!

After Ren's introduction, it only took seconds for her to come up with a nickname. "It's nice to meet you Ren-Ren," she responded with a bright smile. "I'm sure you'll do amazing!" Momoka meant it. Pretty much everyone in the café was friendly and willing to answer any questions Ren may have. She was a little concerned about the other new maid who hadn't introduced himself yet. He seemed quiet. She couldn't blame him, being forced to dress and work as a maid would put anyone in the dumps. Hopefully he would come out of his shell a little throughout his time here. Or maybe not. Some customers loved the shy and reserved type of maid. Either way, she would do her best to make the two feel at home.

“It really can’t be helped. You’re too small to perform any more menial tasks. They need a taller maid to do such things.
I'm simply the most well positioned for manual labor."
Well it was sorta true. Kaede was taller and probably stronger. She was also just super efficient at getting work done.
There was very little she couldn't do even if she was mostly normal.
One of the boys was awfully quiet.
She felt even worse for their predicament. If they got PTSD from this Erika better be held responsible.

It was also just weird. Everyone else seemed so normal about this situation. This felt like some sort of Drama Show or Anime. This had to be some weird anime plot.

Shaking her thoughts she had to get work done. The manager better show up today.

Feeling a little bit worry for his co-chef. To him, it was a rare event to see Bailey giving her food to someone else, let alone to someone you just know "I hope you don't intend to use our ingredients to cook up a snack later!" Shouting some words before finally entering the kitchen.

Getting along with two new male members was something he needed, knowing there's only Shuichi as the only male friend he got in the cafe before. It's not because he only accepts male friends, he is also friends with all of the staff, except Kaya. Not that it was because he was on bad terms with Kaya, but mainly because she doesn't like smokers in general. He would try to talk with Kaya some times but worried that she might hate him because he's a smoker. That's the main reason he only smokes outside while having a break every time. While with the other female staffs, he only talks with them casually, he'll tease them if he gets the chance, except the manager (A rare chance). That's why he thought to get along with two more male staff would be a nice change for him.

Inside the kitchen, he snaps out from his deep thoughts then proceeds to continue his check-up on the kitchen. After he was done with the check-up, he then leans forward through the service hatch where the maids take the food from the kitchen directly. While waiting for the manager to deliver her speech he then proceeds to listen to a classical piece of the piano through his phone, he loved to hear the sound of a piano, to him, it was always pleasant and beautiful music, he could keep hearing the sound of every key in the piano without getting bored.

Kaya smiles as all of her fellow maids arrived and began to compliment and attempt to cheer up the two boys. "Why must you two fight? We have two new coworkers and you two choose to fight over who is the most efficient? What are you two little kids," she sighs and shakes her head before turning to address the two boys, "You two will do great, just follow our leads and practice on your voices and you'll be fine," she winks at them before waddling towards the female changing room.

Going towards her locker to pull out her uniform. Last shift it was a bit tight and she could barely get it to fit. So hopefully today was the same. She didn't want to have to move to a new uniform already, the manager was already upset enough about having to buy new ones for her. Kaya took a deep breath before sliding the dress over her head. It seemed to fit mostly until it tried to pass her rotund belly. Grunting as she tried to pull the darn thing down, a loud rip could be heard as the dress split at the sides. She could feel tears well up in her eyes and the hormones took over before beginning to bawl.

Easily enough his introduction had gone off without a hitch, granted it would be embarrassing to somehow mess up your own introduction, and that probably served to take away some of the strangeness between him and the others. No less than a moment later and a bout of arguing began between two of his coworkers, it seemed they were comparing one another in their work efficiency. Though they hadn't highlighted any specific instances of their work, most of it just revolving around height and strength. Kaya made a notion to intervene before she vanished off to another location, given the direction it was probably their changing room. Ren's blue irises slide across the scene once more, Gin and his newly named wooer Bailey still seemed preoccupied in the pancake introductory phase? That wasn't an intelligible way to name it but it had been the one Ren chose all the same. It would probably be best for him not to interrupt that, the plate could wind up broken over his head if he dared make a joke about it, so instead he turned back to the two competitors. Jun had also disappeared from the scene, maybe he had wanted to avoid being in the area of these two fighting? If so defusing the situation was completely necessary.

"You both pose quite a compelling argument" He said and rose a hand to hold his chin in thought, he couldn't tell much about their work since he'd never seen either of them work- but assuming things could fill in whatever gaps he had for that much. Or at least he hoped that assumptions would. "I don't think it's a fair comparison though- You see, it's like you're pitting s against z. Both require the proper set-up to work at their full potential, and you could work around either of them, but it doesn't mean one is less effective than the other in usage" He added on without even the slightest moment of forethought, trivial knowledge had made it's way into his speech once again. He didn't realize until after he'd spoke the useless babble that it wasn't something most people would understand, he doubted anyone in this room sunk as many hours into Tetris as he had. Glancing about for a moment he paused and then cleared his throat, 'Just salvage the situation and seem like a normal person' was all he could think to himself as he attempted to salvage the act.

"Momo, you're cute and of course a bit on the shorter side. So you're probably really popular with customers, I know allot of people who have that in their mind as the ideal maid." With that he turned to face the other girl, the one with the blonde hair. "You, sorry I never caught your name. But you appear as refined and beautiful as well, once again an ideal type of maid. You said that you took charge with the manual labor as well, so that's another area of efficiency." Taking a moment he moved, taking a few steps around to the other side of the two- a precaution. Behind him now was a more open area of the cafe, so if he needed an escape route it would be much easier to find one, he'd need to get better acquitted with the place sooner than later and if the boss showed up then he'd just stick near-by. "Because of that it's difficult to compare your efficiency, each of you stands above the other in a different way but we end up on the same level when it boils down." He took a few steps back now, probably out of their reach, and took a breath. "That's just my opinion though, I think someone might be crying from back that way." Ren motioned with his head in the direction of the changing rooms before turning on his heels and walking the other direction.

Having said his piece Ren began to venture into the main area of the cafe, the dining area, and carefully observed the placement of the tables and chairs. He was quite careful in not disrupting the positioning of anything, he likely had caused enough disruption this morning as is, it was admirable all the same. Whoever had done it was quite proficient with their spacing, there was enough room to move between them without danger of bumping into another table and probably enough width between the tables for two people to fit in. Continuing forward he moved to the location where menus would be stored and found them neatly stacked, familiarizing oneself with the menu might be beneficial, taking one he began to look through it and peruse the options. All the while he thought about how poorly he'd tried giving advice back there, maybe he needed to spend a little less time playing Tetris and a little more time talking to people... or he could just play another round of Tetris.

It was amazing what the promise of a free drink after work did for Erika's mood. While her position meant that realistically she couldn't play favorites or accept bribes, on the low if she had to pick a favorite employee it would likely be Shuichiro just because of the alcoholic promises. The problem with having a staff with many people under the legal drinking age was right there in the title. How was she supposed to be their after-hours friend when they couldn't drown their sorrows in a shot glass and how were they expected to bribe her for extra time off or a reduced schedule if they didn't come bearing the gift of a six pack when they did? It wasn't just booze that she accepted, of course, but not many knew of her crippling addiction to spicy foods and condiments or the fact that she ate kaarage almost every day; booze and fried food did wonders for her mood.

"Smell like you? That's worse than smelling like nicotine and self-loathing." Erika countered with a little quip of her own. She certainly appreciated the gesture from Shu, but a professional office smoker had more than just half a dozen air fresheners dotting the place and a Lysol air spray in a desk drawer. She also had mouthwash and cheap perfume that smelled faintly of lavender tucked away in the emergency drawer, next to the half finished bottle of Kirin brand whiskey. Erika promptly took a swig of the moutwash, swirled it around, and deposited the liquid into a small paper cup that she would dispose of later. It only took her one instance of accidentally thinking her mouthwash spit cup was also her water cup for her to never leave the spit cup behind again. "Trust me, Shu, if you get a bottle in me I'm sure I'll tell you more than everything. Two bottles and I'll probably embarrass myself. Again."

Erika almost prided herself on how much of a fun drunk she was but the surely sad thing was she was likely not fun for anyone tasked with ensuring she got home safely after a particularly nasty bender. There was a difference between fun and shrill, loud, and openly sobbing about how much you felt like your life was wasting away and Erika was definitely more of the latter than the former. Fortunately she only got that drunk on really bad days and she almost never drank before closing. That would have just been unprofessional. The manager stood from behind her desk, sprayed four puffs of the lavender perfume and straightened out her blouse while patting the soft wrinkles of her pants. "How do I look? Don't answer that." Erika gestured towards the door, the universal signal for 'come on then' as she approached it, pausing with her hand resting on it to take a deep breath before opening and stepping out into the cafe proper.

"Is everyone here?" Erika announced her arrival in the back rather unceremoniously, doing a quick head count and counting possibly two not in immediate eyehsot and figuring what would be the point in waiting. "I'm going to keep it brief today since there haven't been many complaints or points to address so well done on that end, all. As I'm sure you're all aware, we've got two new...two new people." Erika gave a brief sigh as she rounded to the important matter of the hour. She didn't exactly approve of this but some things weren't her call to make. The reason she didn't approve had less to do with any hang-ups on boys cross dressing and more to do with the fact that she had qualms about deceiving customers. Somehow she doubted everyone would say 'Your maid today is actually a boy!'. But what was done was done and all she could do in her capacity as manager was to try and provide the safest work environment as possible for her staff. "I'm sure you all have already, but be nice to them while they're here, don't pull any pranks or anything and as far as the customers know: everyone is a maid, not a butler if you catch my meaning. We're here to provide a service and while it's a fantastical service, it's still a service. They want cute girls, that's what we give them. I'm not going to assign duties, but I would like our more seasoned maids to show the newbies the ropes. When you're attending to a customer, maybe take one of them along to show them how its done. New guys...sorry...new girls, so long as you're here you're one of us and that means if anyone gets grabby or aggressive or makes you uncomfortable, tell me or one of the staff and they'll get it back to me. So long as I'm in the building, I have an open door policy...you just need to knock."

It was moments like these where Erika actually felt like a manager. To go from a smoking angry mess to trying to rally the troops was basically her standard operating procedure and had been ever since she got promoted from maid to manager just because she had been there long enough that her former co-workers had all moved on while she was still drawing ketchup pictures on an omelette and acting cute. "I don't see her, but if anyone sees Kaya, tell her that I don't want her on her feet all day or doing anything taxing and if she has any issue with that she knows where my office is. As usual, any days off requests or half days need to be approved by me first, and remember to log your totals at the end of the day, no one wants to check the register more than once. I'll take any comments, suggestions, concerns, whatever now but if there's nothing else then...let's have another great day, everyone!"

She even managed to smile at the end. Without it cracking.

Shuichi gasped in mock hurt as he placed a hand on top of his heart. "Excuse you - and here I am offering you aid." However, he merely shrugged after that as he snatched up his perfume and then placed it back in his pocket. It only meant that she had another way to cover up her smoking - and he still doesn't understand why she's not open about smoking. Junichi was very open about it, even if he made an effort to smoke outside so as to not bother Kaya. But Shuichi didn't press the issue. She was older than him, after all, and could make her own decisions whatever the reasoning to them might be. He waved a dismissive hand towards her when she reassured him that she'd be spilling everything after a bottle - and even more after two. "Of course you will." He said, knowing the flow of their 'bad day' drinking sessions. "And really, won't be the first time. You'll be fine."

The first few times he caught her in a rather sour mood while drinking, Shuichi found it a hassle to bring her back to her apartment as a heap of sobbing mess. At least he only had to dry clean his uniform twice before he learned how to deal with her. And besides, she had enough sense in her to tell him where the key to her apartment was just in case she wasn't sober enough to slip the key inside and let herself fall on the bed. It was amusing until it just became a regular thing between the two of them. In the span of him thinking back to their shared past, Erika seemed to have composed herself enough to be ready. He gave another non committal shrug when asked for his opinion about her looks - even if it was rhetorical.

And with that, he stood up himself and fixed his blazer to look more presentable and followed her outside, falling a few steps away from her as she started speaking. Shuichi was only half listening to the briefing as he perched near a wall to look at who were present. Kaya and Junichi were nowhere to be found. He could wildly guess that Junichi was already at the kitchen and had probably introduced himself to the new people. Kaya... well, he was rarely sure where she was. She's in one of their rooms definitely and she was hopefully alright. She was far into her pregnancy after all and it would be bad if something were to happen to her.

He grinned when she mentioned any unwanted hands on the two new recruits. "Or you can head straight to me. It's my job to keep all of you safe after all." Because this maid cafe was chaotic enough to warrant a need for a security guard. Though, whenever he thought about it, it was only right because there were some people who were disgusting enough to do more than just eat and enjoy the ambiance of a quaint little cafe like this. There were a few times where he had to physically restrain someone and send them out because they were getting too much for their employees to handle. He already worked at a bar; he knew what it meant and knew what to do.

When Erika finished giving her speech, Shuichi nodded - happy that everything went well and smoothly. He promptly turned to their new employees who, admittedly, actually looked like girls. He was impressed. Whoever dressed them and prepared them for this was skilled. He only saw them once when they took the challenge - and they looked vastly different that it was astounding. "You guys look great, give my regards to whoever helped you with it." Though it seemed like a tease, Shuichi was saying it genuinely. As Erika said earlier, they needed to convince their customers that they were girls - maids so this was the best scenario that they can get. "Anyhow, I'm Takigawa Shuichiro. My job description says I'm a security guard but really, I just help around where I can - except for serving and cooking - and kick out any... ah, what do you call them... undesirables." Shuichi said with a smirk and a wink to them. "Just chill and you two will be fine." He reassured them, as if they still needed it. Well, one would never know. At least he had offered his and that's what was important to him.

560042Oshiro MomokaMomo's ego was not only hurt but crushed! What did Kaede mean she was too small? It wasn't fair to base her skills on her height. Besides, she already got put through enough because of her short stature. Every time she wanted to go out drinking, it turned into a huge thing with the bartender to show she was actually of age! She was sick of it. Why couldn't she have kept growing? Maybe she could be like a model - tall and attractive. But no. She just had to look like a child.

Her moping only intensified in response to Kaya's scolding. It wasn't fair. Momo only said that she was also efficient! She wasn't arguing about who was most efficient. She wasn't even saying she was the most efficient. She just wanted some kind of credit. It made her mad that Kaede would make her seem lazy in front of the newbies. Momo continued to sulk as Kaya walked (or rather waddled) away. She really shouldn't be pushing herself as hard with her being pregnant and all. What if she slipped or fell or something? It worried Momo.

Her attention was taken from Kaya and drawn towards Ren. As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Momo's mood had recovered. "You're so sweet, Ren-Ren! I'm already glad to have you on the team!" She responded with a giant grin on her face. She was used to customers complimenting her but anyone else left her absolutely glowing in happiness. Especially if they complimented her height. She would never admit it, but her height was a sore spot for the girl.

"I think someone might be crying from back that way."

Momo looked towards the changing room, almost like she expected to see someone right their. The only one back there would be Kaya. Is she okay? Momo bit her lip; something she tended to do when she was stressed. She was right about to leave when Ms. Erika appeared from her office. Luckily today's meeting was brief. She needed to check on Kaya.

Her heels clicked against the floor as she hurried towards the dressing room. She didn't know what quite to expect but it was quite a scene. Kaya was crying, her uniform ripped and bunched above her stomach. Momo wasn't quite sure what to do, so she resorted to the only thing she could think of. A hug. She wrapped her arms around the crying girl, hoping it could soothe her. "It's okay, Kaya. I can go get you a new uniform. You're going to be so cute in a brand new uniform," she said, trying to cheer her up.

So they'd have to show the noobs the ropes. She'd wait till there was a customer.
Why did they have to babysit them.. They honestly should call the police or something, get this sorted out.
The manager was messed up mentally. Also someone should check on Kaya.
Looking back at both of the boys. She decided to answer any questions they had.
"Do any of you got any questions?"

Like the manager, Bailey couldn't see Kaya.

But Bailey's ears, trained and honed through years of abuse with earbuds turned up way past the 'Any Louder Than This is Unsafe' level, were able to pick up on the noise of the crying in the back, and she had a feeling she knew who it was. It was Kaya, of course. The only other option was one of the boy maids, and she'd handled that by giving him her breakfast (something Bailey felt she would come to regret). As a result of the crying, Bailey found herself distracted throughout the manager's pep talk; with the frequency of them, she usually felt like she didn't need to focus on them, but today she found herself doing her best to concentrate on Erika's voice. With the alternative being listening to bawling in the dressing room... Bailey chose the lesser of two evils.

Unfortunately for her, she found it hard to block out completely, and she eventually settled on giving Erika about sixty percent of her attention. Once Erika brought the speech to a close, Bailey gave her a quick thumbs up and smile of her own, "that's the stuff, boss. I really love the pep talks, not sure I could cook without them." At least Erika's speech giving technique hadn't suffered anyway. Bailey's part here was basically done, and now it was time for her to go hide in the kitchen until the time arrived for her to go home.

"Hey, new maids, take it easy, right? This is just the beginning! Shu has a snake, and I can only assume that he would feed anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable to the snake. After all, you're part of our ship, and part of our crew now. Little Pirates of the Caribbean reference for you there... I'm gonna disappear into the kitchen now, I hope you really enjoyed that pancake, because that was my breakfast, and I'm not sure I can get away with sneaking anymore..." As she spoke, Bailey was backing away and nodding. Luckily, Momo had wandered off to take care of Kaya, so Bailey was comfortably certain that Erika wouldn't have to worry about the pregnant maid; Momo was pretty solid when it came to taking care of Kaya. "It looks like Kaede is gonna take care of you, so... yeah. If you've got any questions about how to cook, you can ask me or Jun and we'll probably have any answer for you. Good luck, have fun. It won't be so bad, you guys look like maids, now you just have to handle being maids. That's arguably the most important part."

"Arguably."

By the time she'd finished her own little speech, Bailey had made her way back into the kitchen, with only her head poking out. Once she was done talking, she disappeared into the kitchen, where she looked around, trying to decide what she was going to make to eat. Now that she'd introduced herself...ish, she needed to figure out FOOD. Food was important, and she had to give hers away because some boy couldn't handle dressing like a girl. Some people on the internet paid good money for that! It wasn't her fault that he couldn't see the opportunity being laid out in front of him!
