Realistic or Modern Love Of God Reboot -Victorian Cult Rp - CS

laceanddoodles

Your run of the mill Victorian lady
Love of God is an rp set in a medium sized town, 1847, that will center around a small fundamentalist cult. More importantly, it will center around and deal with themes of family, and reconciling your identity with your beliefs and the expectations of authority figures, notably, religious authorities. If all that sounds interesting to you, then awesome! Here's the interest check, you'll find available roles there. All are welcome!

Without further ado, here's the CS

Weaknesses: (At least as many weaknesses as strengths, thank you.)

Secrets:
Background: (If you're in the Kipling family, this is rather straightforward. Just talk a bit about your relationship with Pastor Kipling, and whatever else you'd like to say. Non-Kiplings, have fun.)
Looks: (Written description and/or a picture. Can be anime, but I'd prefer a real person, or a drawing that was either done by yourself or that you have permission from the artist to use)

Name: Penitence Prayer Kipling (Penny)

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Position in The Group: The fourth child of Pastor Kipling, and the eldest still living at home.

Sexuality: Closeted lesbian

Personality: Penny is a people pleaser to the extreme. She’s very bubbly and sweet, with the sort of naive happiness about her that comes from not knowing anything better than The Group. She absolutely adores her family, especially the little ones, and she’s generally obedient to her parents. She has a good work ethic. Submissive. She really doesn’t have a clue how to stand up for herself. She's honestly quite ambitious, and she's a quick study. That being said, she often lets her sense of self fall by the wayside to appease her father.

Likes: Reading, gardening, singing, her family, embroidery and sewing, keeping busy, children

Dislikes: Boredom, laundry, being made to sit still for too long

Strengths: She is clever and fast on her feet. Good at spontaneity. A good singer.

Weaknesses: Too naive, too timid. Not willing to stand up for herself. Overly trusting. Not at all educated, she can barely read. Indecisive.

Fears: Hell, demons, monsters, witches, her father, her father finding out about her sexuality, her father finding out about her secret ambitions, her father finding her journals, something happening to the little ones

Goals: Maybe to gain a bit of freedom? Maybe? To make her family happy. To be good in the eyes of God. To protect the little ones from the wrath of their father.

Secrets: She wants a fashionable dress like the worldly ladies wear. There's a young lady in The Group who is very pretty and she has... thoughts about.

Background: Penitence, or Penny, has thus far had a very good relationship with her father. He first recruited her to sing in his services when she was nine or ten, after noticing her humming around the house while taking care of the little ones. She watched her two elder sisters get married off, and her elder brother leave. At nineteen, she was a little surprised that she hasn't been married off, yet, but father told her about a month ago that that her father had chosen her a husband. She will be married by the end of summer. She doesn't plan to protest or rebel, but if she had it her way, she'd rather be an old maid, and maybe get a little house somewhere with that girl--

Name: Markus Adam Kipling

Age: 58

Gender: Male

Position in The Group: The Pastor, shepherd, father of The Group. The founder

Sexuality: ...Straaaaaaiight?? Kinda? It feels wrong to give him an actual sexuality, his sexuality is “abuser.”

Personality: Markus has to be in control of everything at all times. He can’t stand being contradicted and he needs to be the center of all things. He believes himself to be sent from God to save mankind before the end-times, and he believes that sacred duty places him above everyone else. He’s a very organized man that believes everything has its proper, God-given place, including people. He has an almighty temper, and tolerates no dissent, no nonsense. He never gives thought to what anyone else might want, his will is God’s will, and God’s will be done. He has no interest in the little lives of ordinary folk, they will either obey or be made to.

Likes: Control, peace and quiet, getting his way, power, ...using that power for his own pleasure and gain.

Dislikes: People with opinions, being upstaged, being challenged or questioned

Strengths: He is a charismatic leader, a brilliant public speaker, and an intimidating, commanding, presence.

Weaknesses: Lack of empathy, hugely overinflated ego, doesn’t listen to people, sadistic and cruel, fanatical

Fears: Losing his power and being unseated

Goals: Expand The Group, have millions upon millions of members with him at the center of it all.

Secrets: He uses his power to sleep with young, sometimes underaged, girls in The Group, threatening to expel them or their families if they say anything.

Background: He had a “revelation from God” and founded The Group about two years before he met and married his wife. He was 32, at the time, and she was still very young, only seventeen and from from a very strictly religious family, and he got her pregnant within a year. Over the past twenty something years, he’s expanded The Group from about five followers to half the town or so. As he went, he received more “revelations,” and made more rules and choices, often more for his gain than anything else, and made it harder and harder for members to break away and leave. His cruelty has only gotten worse with time, and he says that since God will show no mercy on judgement day, sinful members deserve no mercy, now. One must not seek worldly comforts.

Looks: WIP

Name: Abraham James MacDermot

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Position in The Group: Congregant, recent convert, unofficially in charge of recruitment

Sexuality: Uhhh... celibate???

Personality: Extroverted and outspoken, Abe loves being around people and getting attention. He’s well read, and deeply religious. Lots of energy, always smiling. Eternal optimist who believes everything is part of God’s plan and will turn out for the best. He’s very polite and gentle with people, but he has a nasty, violent, controlling side that really only comes out when he’s given authority over someone, especially if that someone is a woman.

Likes: Reading the Bible, small children, talking to people, attention, making friends, making coverts, going on walks and picnics.

Dislikes: “Weak” versions of Christianity, sitting still, being quiet, Satan, sin

Strengths: Charismatic, well educated, personable, persuasive

Weaknesses: He fully buys in to Kipling’s teachings, not the best listener— tends to be more busy thinking of what he’s going to say next than actually absorbing what the other person is saying. Over zealous. A bit of an egomaniac.

Fears: Hell, being forgotten, never finding God

Goals: Bring as many people into God’s Light as physically possible!

Secrets: Something happened with his uncle when he was younger that brings him great shame and great guilt, and makes him think he’s already a sinner who has to pay penance.

Background: Born to an upper middle class family, Abe was well educated at local Catholic schools, and planned to go to Seminary and become a priest. However, he struggled with faith more and more after an encounter with his uncle when he was twelve that left him shaken and traumatized. Abe was taken by the dramatic, black and white views of Heaven and Hell, Good and Evil, of the early Puritans, and wished for such visceral, totalitarian, religion, to be accessible to him. And then, when he was 21, about to enter the Seminary, he found what he was looking for in The Group. He was a fast convert, and quick to become a true believer, one of Kipling’s most loyal servants.

Malachi Abel
basics
FULL NAME.
Malachi Abel Kipling

AGE.
14

D.O.B.
March 1st

GENDER.
Male

POSITION IN THE GROUP
The Kiplings' 6th child

SEXUALITY
Oh, he's been conditioned not to question it, but let's just say he has an unusual lack of interest in women for a lad his age...

misc

LIKES.
Malachi loves reading. Anything, everything he can get his hands on. He also loves music, learning about those outside the groups by frequenting such blasphemous places as teahouses and theaters (on the excuse that he talks to no one except to convert, of course)

DISLIKES.
Manual labor. Malachi survived polio as a child and suffers recurring pain and muscle weakness. He also dislikes Winter as a season, cabbage, and having to look after his siblings for long periods of time.

FEARS.
Hell, getting found out by his father entertaining philosophies outside of The Group's godly ways, being excommunicated like his brother, the trials and responsibilities of being the new "Firstborn" son of his father.

GOALS.
Oh, so many. Malachi has hit that most ambitious, rebellious point in his life. He wants to flee to London, be an author, a poet, an actor, meet Charles Dickens, learn to dance and play piano, revel in the glories of the worldly life.

SECRETS.
Some of his preferences in literature are rather secular and perhaps controversial even outside The Group.

personality

Malachi is, in a phrase, a classic case of The Absent-Minded Professor. He'd as soon memorize an entire section of the Bible as forget to put on his shoes before leaving the house. He is good-natured, if a bit overcurious, and has high aspirations for himself (not all of which are in line with his fathers wishes or teachings). He's a dreamer, constantly with his head in the clouds, and perhaps irresponsible in some regards to his duties around the house.

STRENGTHS
Malachi is intelligent, curious, and a skilled writer with excellent penmanship. The cult's catechisms are the only way for him to practice these skills, but practice he does.

WEAKNESSES
Malachi is sickly and physically frail, has a terrible stutter when nervous, is socially blunt and inept, and tends to passive-aggressively act in defiance of authority.

relevant history

When Malachi was seven years old, Polio struck the town. He was lucky enough to survive, though unlucky both to catch it in the first place and to suffer the long-lasting consequences. He now walks with the assistance of a crutch, is plagued by aches and pains that never quite seem to dissipate. Nevertheless, after his recovery, he had all the more reason not to take any piece of life for granted. This, I suppose, may have started leading him down the path to a quiet sort of rebellion against his Father and the Group. He began sneaking out to the local Athenaeum, where he was taught to read in secret by an old woman working there who saw in him a great desire to learn beyond what was considered proper for his cult. He took to reading all sorts of secular works. He became a lover of Shakespeare, of the philosophers of the Enlightenment, of the current authors of England and the Americas alike.

After his older brother's excommunication, Malachi took his place as the first son of Markus, with all that entails. Malachi's relationship with his father is a tenuous one, his son wary of openly defying the word of God. In a way, he's come to think of God and his father as one and the same, some omnipresent and wrathful man with power far beyond the reaches of his children; without peer. He fears him, but it is a fear with little respect behind it.

Name: Hero Kipling.

Age: 15.

Gender: Female.

Position in The Group: 5th child of the Kiplings.

Sexuality: Closeted bisexual.

Personality: Hero was always different than her siblings, much to her father's discontent. She was always brash and loud, often rebelling against the authority figures of The Group. Even though she was Kipling's daughter, it didn't exclude her from punishment, but over the years, she learned to handle it better. In an ironic way, Hero always tried to play the hero when needed. She was always there when someone needed her, and if a rare fight broke out, she was there to either calm the fire or defend someone. She never saw eye to eye with her father, and never will.

Likes: Arguing with her father, daydreaming, supporting others in need, dancing in private.

Dislikes: Her father in general, The Group, lack of empathy.

Strengths: What Hero dislikes in people is something she doesn't lack herself. She is a strong-willed individual, sometimes unable to feel fear when the time is right. She is brave enough to actively fight against her father, even going against one of his rules and cutting her own hair short, at least shoulder length. Even though she despises the cult and what it stands for, she empathizes with the people who were born in these circumstances just like she was, and actively tries to look for solutions. Determination might just be her best-friend.

Weaknesses: But asides from her shining quality, she has some glaringly obvious weaknesses. She's probably one of the most predictable siblings, actively and loudly rebelling against her father. She doesn't fear, and that is what makes her reckless and somewhat dangerous. She wouldn't ever harm someone unless she had the intention to, and she has close to no patience. It's a good thing she wasn't named after that virtue.

Fears: Never being able to escape, dying at the hands of her father or his trusted followers, being caught dancing.

Goals: Escape The Group once and for all and reach Paris, it's all she's ever wanted to do.

Secrets: Hero is trying to teach herself how to read and write more than her name.

Background: Hero and Markus never got along, from the minute she could speak she was causing havoc and chaos everywhere around her father. Her relationship with him never really got better as she grew up, in fact, it got worse as she tried to break free from the chains that her family had on her. The beatings and floggings she got from him, she'd never forget, but they were so many that it was hard to remember when which one happened. One thing was for sure, though... She'd never listen to him, even if it meant going to Hell, because Hero didn't fear.

Name: Cyrus Obediah Byrne.

Age: 21.

Gender: Male.

Position in The Group: Congregant.

Sexuality: ??

Personality: Cyrus is a quiet individual, devout and loyal to Pastor Kipling and his teachings. Though sometimes his faith in the religion wavers, questioning some of the things he hears, he ultimately decides against speaking up and acting out. He struggles to come to terms with having to marry someone, and soon enough having to make them 'obey' him. Though he manages to put up a good front in front of The Group, and for now that's all that counts.

Likes: Reading the bible, listening to the hymns of the choir, spending his day in a quiet environment.

Dislikes: Being forced to do something, being mocked, hurting the people he loves.

Strengths: Cyrus has a great memory, often remembering things for years on end. He also doesn't talk very much about anything, so the majority of secrets that are imparted with him are safe.. Unless they are deemed sinful by the Pastor, in which his faith and loyalty overcomes the safety of said secret.

Weaknesses: His undying loyalty to Kipling might be one of his biggest faults. He's lost a few friends by reporting back to the Pastor, and has gained quite a reputation for being a faithful mole to him. His cold demeanour might also ward off new people, whether they be in the cult or not.

Fears: Cyrus fears being excommunicated from the cult, even if he's done no wrong as of yet.

Goals: Simply live a peaceful life within The Group and find peace with the confusion he faces.

Secrets: It comes at no surprise that Cyrus questions his life a lot, even though he's not very vocal about it. He is unsure of who he is, and what he feels like. Even though he doesn't like men, he doesn't really feel like one himself.

Background: Cyrus was born into The Group, having seen nothing other than it for his whole life. His parents were one of the few early congregants, and instilled the values of the cult into him. He learned to not question, and as he grew older and understood, didn't search for answers. Cyrus is very devout and loyal to Kipling, alongside Abraham, and while he questions some of the rules they follow, he never said it out loud.. He was afraid of being cast out of the only life he knew.

Purity " Pity" Kipling
The Eighth Child ; Aaron's Twin
JyMcCb1.png
rLlfMAF.png
ro86rKC.png

Age: 11
Gender: Female
Sexuality: N/A

Likes: Warm breezes, walking barefoot, candlelight, and humming.
Dislikes: Bright lights, loud noises, her nickname, being alone.

Strengths: She has very good hearing and a sense of touch. She is also very good at keeping secrets.
Weaknesses: Purity suffers from almost complete blindness. Her world is blurred shapes and dull colors, and the light of day can often be painful.

Fears: Silence. Others being hurt because of her.
Goals: She wants to join the choir and sing until her voice gives out.

Secrets: She often uses her disability as an excuse for misbehavior and to avoid punishments. Despite understanding that it is bad, she also sometimes sneaks away to listen to an outsider read bedtime stories to her children, guided by a subtle pebble path only she knows how to follow.

Personality: Purity is exactly as her namesake implies. Pure. Innocent. Sweet-hearted. She is gentle and curious and caring - a shoulder and an ear for any of her siblings to rely on. While she is one of the less rebellious children, her curiosities and open-mindedness can still get her into trouble.

Background: When the twins were born it was a grand moment for The Group - a simultaneous addition of two sparkling new faces to condition how they pleased. After several weeks, however, it became evident that something was wrong. While her brother's eyes darkened, the dull, milky blue of her newborn eyes never quite shifted to a more permanent pigmentation. Without proper medical treatment the condition of her eyes quickly worsened, and by the time she had lived a year of her life in gradual confusion, the visual world around her became reduced to shadows, shapes, and light.
"God took away your sight because he never wanted your pure soul to be tainted by judgment. Without vision you are able to see the world as it truly is." She remembered her mother soothing her one night as a child. The sentiment confused her - "Why me?" - but having known little else other than her condition the little girl adapted.
Walking around, she would make quiet little clucking sounds with her tongue, or reach out and feel things with her fingers or toes. Sensing her surroundings by means other than her eyes became a natural way of life. Other children, however, used it as a weapon against her. She was teased rather horribly - being snuck up upon and having her hair pulled, being called a chicken, and "Pity". Countless times had she searched for safety in the arms of her family. For the longest time, these moments drove her away from the outside world.
It wasn't until she was a little bit older that her view of her lack thereof began to change. Purity knew much of the drama and pain within the confines of the Group. How some people really felt - one time she told on a girl she had overheard saying something bad. She didn't know it would lead to three days of constant, distant sobbing. It traumatized her. She would never tell a secret again. She of all people knew how important finding console within another could be.
Purity started to think of her blindness as a superpower of sorts. A connection to Heaven even. The way she experienced the world - through its sounds, scents, and feeling - was special to only her, as far as she knew.

The Forsaken Kipling
Felicity O'Riordan

b9b8be39be2eccd9b224e94edb809b54.jpg

Name: Felicity O'Riordan
Age: 9
Gender: Female
Position in The Group: Congregant
Sexuality: Too young to be questioning it
Personality: Felicity never speaks.
Not a word, to anyone. She talks only in her sleep, and in muttered prayers under her breath.
The small girl keeps to herself, doing only what is told of her to do, which she does dutifully and without hesitation, for fear of being punished.
Deep down, though, she suffers deeply from the sins of Wrath and Envy. She sees the way she lives, invisible, abused and overlooked, and is furious about it. That, not fear, is the reason for her silence.
Likes: Apples, rain, music, quiet people, cemeteries.
Dislikes: Just about everything, it seems sometimes. Sitting still, loud sounds, strange smells, foul weather... almost anything can send her into tears.
Strengths: Felicity, unbeknownst to anyone, is a bright girl with a vengeful spirit. She keeps her anger and jealousy hidden under a veil of innocence and fear.
Weaknesses: She is but 9 years of age, and (seemingly) unable to defend herself physically. She is an emotional and at times almost hysterical girl, filled with rage she has no way to process. She is totally illiterate, like her mother before her.
Fears: death, the darkness, her half-siblings finding out about her, Markus.
Goals: To become a witch and rain plague across the Group.
Secrets: She is the illegitimate child of Markus Kipling and one of his... younger mistresses. And unknown to anyone else, she knows it.
Background: Felicity is the daughter of Annie O'Riordan, a married seamstress. However, Felicity is not the daughter of Annie's husband. When Annie was just off the boat from Ireland, at only 16 years old, she was lured in by Markus and his Love of God group. He at first offered her sanctuary, a community... and special attention for her beauty. His advances grew stronger and stronger until Annie could not resist them.

Once she found out she was pregnant from their affair, she hastily was forced to marry a recent convert to cover the shameful ordeal. And thus came into the world Felicity O'Riordan, "Daughter of Jacob O'Riordan".

Two years later, Annie was found dead in her room with a bottle of arsenic. This, like the pregnancy, was quietly swept under the rug. It is said in the community that she died of influenza. She has a grave plot in the churchyard, marked with a simple wooden cross, but in the dead of night Annie's body was exhumed from this spot and buried at the crossroads far from town. Suicides are not to be buried on consecrated ground.

Felicity, now living with her stepfather (who she was raised to believe was her biological father), continues to be a part of The Group, and is only just starting to uncover the dark secrets of her past through her "father's" drunken tirades, whispers among the Group, and her own little sleuthing.

She knows she visits an empty grave at night.

9th Kipling child

GENERAL INFORMATION

FULL NAME
NICKNAMES
AGE
GENDER
Aaron Uriel Kipling
None
11
Male... at his own regret

POSITION IN THE GROUP
SEXUALITY
9th Kipling child
Unknown for now

PERSONALITY

Aaron is reserved, doesn't speak that much, except with those he feels safe and comfortable - that doesn't include each member of his family though. He is a little wary towards unknown people. Actually, he is a bit scared of adults, as he sees them just like his father or other intimidating people from The Group. Furthermore, he finds women nicer and more gentle than men.

He doesn't really like the unknown and prefers staying in his comfortable zone. That could be explained by the fact he is feared of punishments from his father. As he already saw other of his brothers or sisters punished, he doesn't want to know the same fate. Therefore, he tries to be the model little child who obeys to rules.

LIKES
Being with girls/women, his twin sister, listening to stories, listening to Penny singing

DISLIKES
Violence, fear, being alone, eating (it's often food he doesn't like but as he can't say that, he is forced to eat)

STRENGTHS
His reserve and his innocent face, that avoid him troubles and potential doubts about his actions/thoughts/secrets.

WEAKNESSES
Because of his fears, he never puts himself against his father's will, and tends to erase his real identity in favour of the one expected by The Group.

FEARS
His father, adults, the unknown, punishments, darkness

GOALS
He doesn't have specific goals. He has never had specific goals. He has never had the opportunity to think about a better future or great ambitions as he has always known The Group and its rules, nothing else. What he would like could be to lead a simple life, with his twin sister; that's all what matter for him for now.

SECRETS
He feels like he would prefer being a girl. Why did God make him a boy? He admires his sisters' grace and would like to be like them. When night comes and everybody should be asleep, or when he is certain no one could see them, he uses to try his twin sister's clothes from time to time, only to look how he feels like with them.
With his twin sister, he often listens to outsiders' stories. Although he is still afraid of being discovered, he enjoys them.

BACKGROUND

Aaron Uriel Kipling is the ninth child of the Kipling family, and Purity's twin brother. He has grown up in a religious and very strict environment, where he had to respect many rules. Why did he have to follow all those statements? He has never really understood but he has never questioned that too, as he got always the same answer: "Don't ask, just obey. It's good".

The only accepted things had to be related to God. And God spoke through Pastor Markus Kipling, his father. He respected his father as he feared him. He has always seen him as a kind of judge, who would not hesitate to punish if someone did something unacceptable according to his beliefs. Punishments could be cruel and violent. Aaron was and is still afraid of them. His father didn't seem to show love towards the little Aaron and other children, and much less empathy.

Despite this lack of individual freedoms and father's brutality, Aaron found himself good alongside his sisters. He had always preferred women over men. He found men too intimidating. He is very close to his twin sister Purity, and also to his older sister, Penny. He enjoys moments spent with them, when he can really be himself or at least when fear goes away.

Name: Silas Matthew Kipling

Age: 7

Gender: Male

Position in The Group: 12th Kipling child

Sexuality: Too young to know

Personality: Silas is a rather rebellious child. Seeming to have a fighter's spirit by nature, he is defiant against his father and is usually not afraid to yell and argue. He is rowdy, talkative, disobedient, disorderly, and loud. Sometimes he also tries to sneak out and run away, but has never succeeded and has often gotten too scared and turned back, though other times been caught and punished. He also can be quite argumentative with some of his siblings, though even at his young age he understands, on some level, that they are victims of their father too. Although he may relent when being punished, usually within a week he is back to his normal behavior.

Likes: Climbing trees, playing by himself, being alone

Dislikes: His father, the religion, vegetables

Strengths: Strong-willed, doesn't take things at face value, curious

Weaknesses: Extremely defiant and sometimes says stupid things that could get him and others hurt, too nosy and often gets himself into trouble

Fears: Being locked away alone

Goals: To find a better family

Secrets: He sometimes tries to pray to Satan when he's alone. His thinking is basically, if God is the one who makes my father hurt me, then maybe Satan isn't as bad as they say he is. He tried to pray to God for years, asking Him questions, but never felt like he was being listened to or answered in any way.

Background: Silas was born a weak, tiny, premature baby. His anger and behavioral issues didn't really start becoming apparent until he was four years of age. At first, the extent of his defiance would be tearful tantrums and disobeying direct orders. But as he's gotten older, he's developed more and more problem behaviors- like yelling at his father, his mother, and fighting with his siblings. Sometimes, in fits of anger, he would tear apart whatever breakable thing he could get his hands on. One time, this was a Bible, which earned him a harsh beating. He's also hurt animals sometimes out of his anger and pain, but hides this from his family.

Looks: Will try and draw soon!

Obedience Humility Kipling

Basics.
Née : Ruth Mercy Taylor
Age : 43
Position in The Group : Pastor Kipling's wife
Sexuality : Closeted bisexual
Personality : A devoted mother and wife ... [will add more later]

Preferences
Likes : Embroidery. Mostly Bible quotes or her husband's teachings, but he will sometimes allow her to add a few little embellishments to these, which she relishes.
Stories. Of course, she only enjoys those from the Bible, but there are some epic tales in the Good Book. Her favorite is the story of Jonah and the Whale.

Dislikes : Outsiders. It is rare she encounters them, as she is busy in the house most of the time, but when she does she always gets flustered. She's only allowed to speak of the Group, but as a woman she doesn't feel it is her place to try to convert, so she never knows what to say, instead simply ignoring them and hurrying whatever errand she's doing so she can leave as soon as possible.
Abraham MacDermot. She would never say this out loud, out of duty to her husband and his teachings, but she finds the young man somewhat snobby and shallow. His (relatively) wealthy origins also make her suspicious of his commitment to The Group's beliefs. Still, she treats him with all respect due to his position in The Group.

Strengths : The ability to keep up the entire home, including cleaning, feeding and clothing her children, all under the intense scrutiny of her husband. An unshakeable faith in God.

Weaknesses : Obedient and trustworthy to a fault, particularly when it comes to her husband. Prone to daydream.

Fears : Disappointing her husband, disappointing God, losing another child through excommunication, falling to temptation.

Goals : Obedience doesn't allow herself goals besides raising healthy, pious children and serving her husband, but once her children are all grown and married, she thinks she might fill the time with work on a huge quilt, beautifully embroidered, with one panel for each of her favorite Bible stories.

History
Secrets : A year before she met Markus, she had a fleeting summer fling with a girl from her church. They never went further than longing gazes and once brushing hands, but Obedience still remembers that moment vividly, though she tries not to think about it. They were never caught, but she was deeply ashamed of her feelings, and so was grateful when Markus showed up in her life. She thought he was the guiding hand she needed to lead her from her sinful thoughts.

Background : She relies on her husband's wisdom and strength, and his deep connection with God, but she fears his anger. She still believes in the Group, and thinks that the holy work Markus is doing outweighs any negative qualities he might have, or small sins he may commit.
Obedience's children are her world. Though her husband would never tolerate doting on them as much as she's inclined to (and thank goodness he keeps her from spoiling the children), she tries to be more gentle as she guides them to the right path.

Looks : Wide face with a wide nose and strong jaw. Straw blonde hair that reaches her waist and light blue eyes. - image from [here]

Put your ear to my heart ,
basics.

name : Adelaide Estelle Kipling
nickname : Addy, Della
age : ??
DoB : December 17th, 18xx
gender : Female (( FTM ))
position : Sister-in-Law , Wife
sexuality : Attracted to men
looks: Face claim

;personality .

summary : Adelaide has created a very mild, propper version for herself for the public. She is reserved and quiet, watching instead of talking. She follows social protocols and rules to a T, never over-stepping or taking up space. In the company of close friends or family, however, she lets herself breathe, sneaking sweets for the kids, telling them "forbidden" stories in soft whispers, trying to push those around her to question the cult's beliefs in subtle ways, wording comments with plausible deniability and even participating in some gossip. She loves children and having grown up outside of the cult, wants to make their lives just a little bit less miserable if she can. She loves learning and sharing knowledge, used to enjoy debating and discussing a broad range of topics with friends when she was much younger, but nowadays she keeps all her thoughts hidden away in writing.

likes : Adelaide enjoys early mornings, playing piano, drinking earl grey creme tea and, depsite the rules, dancing in private. She's also particularly interested in classical studies

dislikes : She can't stand her own voice and hates singing. She also hates attending church, dresses, mint tea, and tries to avoid Markus as much as possible. She also hates the restrictions set on what can be read or sung or learned.

strenghts : A good liar, she appears cool and collected most of the time. She's also very observant & thoughtful. Having been a big bookworm as a child, she's also quite literate and educated.

weaknesses : despite being able to play a character, she's very stubborn in her beliefs & holds grudges for a long time, which can come out in passive-aggressiveness. She also has a big blind spot for those she loves, seeing fault in everyone but them.

fears : Her biggest fears are her true gender becoming public knowledge and losing her husband (or children?) in any way

goals : Mainly, Adelaide would like to leave her brother-in-laws cult, live out in the country far away from her current life, and be able to live as his true self. She used to dream about becoming a performer, playing the piano or dancing on stage but those are the old dreams of a young girl, now she just wants to be able to read her favorite books damn it.

secrets : Adelaide has made sure his true gender is a closely kept secret, but can't help venting her frustrations, hopes, and pain via writing, which she keeps hidden in a false bottom in her dresser. She's terrified of being driven from her family and friends for things she cannot help.
