a new day in capri!

The scent of lemon trees and ocean spray dances on the warm summer air. Birds sing cheerfully as bees hum, bouncing from flower to flower. Sand clings to bare skin, and laughter seems to be almost contagious. It is almost as if the whole town is simply suspended in a wonderful time, never having a bad day, even if it’s raining outside. However, along a narrow coastal road that is lined by thick trees and tall grass, a large house can be seen among the rocky landscape of the cliffside.

Tucked away in its own paradise, the house is filled with new guests from around the world. They have been there for around two weeks, catching up on sleep, enjoying freshly picked fruits from the garden or even going for a casual boat ride along the crisp ocean waves. It’s been an adjustment for all of them, getting used to living amongst strangers, but now it doesn’t seem so daunting. The island’s energy is something that calms even the most restless of souls, and certainly, that is no exception here.

With summer just beginning and the wonders of an Italian island awaiting them, it’s easy for anyone to get lost in it. So, courtesy of the hosts, those staying in the lovely cliffside manor have been invited to participate in various activities for the day! There is a private boat tour that will take passengers for a day at the Green Grotto, meaning lots of swimming and fun in the sun. There is also a guide to beach hopping throughout the day if you’d prefer to take the private boat and go explore the various beaches that Capri has to offer. A list of botanical gardens has also been provided for those who prefer more inland experiences. If you’re a fan of food and drinks, there are plenty of places that offer Lemoncello sampling. Make sure to have a ride back to the house if you plan on doing this for a while!

If you’re into hiking, Monte Solaro is up for the taking, although we suggest packing plenty of water, sunscreen, and food for this as it can be quite a long way! Although, there are chairlifts if that’s more your style! There’s plenty of shopping and various restaurants within the heart of Capri, so if you would prefer to leave the exploration and outdoor hustle and bustle to another day, that is also understandable. Please, feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. And as always, we hope you enjoy another day in the lovely Capri.

Cal was up before the sun. She'd been quiet when she slipped out, a well honed skill built over years of sharing tents and on-call rooms. The pre-dawn air was coolly humid, a pleasant kiss from the sea below on her exposed skin. She wore short running briefs and a sports bra. It would be hot soon enough. She paused just outside the estate's front door in order to coerce the tension to abandon her hip. The flow of well-practiced stretches was almost meditative. Every controlled breath pushed the dreams and intrusive thoughts from the night further away. When she had nothing left in her head but oxygen and a building sense of freedom, she set out.

She had been scoping her path for almost a week. The small excursions into Capri and more exploratory runs has been her effort at path finding. Between that and the GPS in her watch, she was fairly confident of her route. She cut into town at a fairly quick pace, following the coastal road that lead to the absurdly beautiful estate they were all staying in. She dropped into the Marina Grande before her path took her through Capri, and then up Monte Solaro. The streets were quiet in the dark. She liked the empty feel of towns before residents had risen. Only the occasional ship worker or fisherman was in the streets, and all offered a nod or a brief wave that she returned with a breathless grin.

Cobbled streets disappeared in favor of a well worn dirt trail that clawed itself up the ragged sea-side mountain. She glanced at her watch. Three and a half miles, just to the trail head. She had expected it, but she dimly wondered what the climb would be like. She didn't allow herself to consider it much, and instead let her mind wander to the colors the lightening sky was casting on the scrubby Mediterranean plant-life. Her music played quietly in her headphones, letting the occasional bird call reach her through the playlist she'd built just for this run. Sweat built on her skin, slicking her back and chest. She followed the trail markers, but some sections were no more than goat trails. Still she went on, eventually ignoring her watch and it's navigation all together. She had the rotation of the Earth to beat, after all.

This was her place. This state; sweating with dust and dirt in her nose, her lungs demanding air she had no choice but to provide, doing what her body was meant to do. Any thoughts of the past, or the pain in her leg, or the nightmares that had riddled her sleep, were gone. This was her place.

The peak came suddenly after a handful of aggressive rock scrambles the locals dared to call stairs. She found herself atop a crumbling ridge that ended in an austere cliff, Capri below and the sea beyond. She gasped for air, letting herself bend to put her hands on her knees. She let her head hang as she worked to slow her breathing before she righted herself, locking her hands on the back of her head in an effort to keep her chest open. The sun was rising over the horizon, illuminating the chain of islands that extended past Capri and ended at Mount Vesuvius.

Callie laughed a breathless, crumpled laugh. It was ridiculous. All of it was insane. She was in Italy. She had been there for two weeks and she would be there for months more. No dispatches, no resuscitations, no bullet wounds, no dead-on-arrivals. No reports to write about the victims of abuse, no cops to answer to, no court rooms to enter. Just this sunrise and the clean air and the sea-breeze reaching up to lick the sweat from her skin. She laughed.

With her headphones off, she sat up there on a crumbly rock, letting her body cool while she watched the sun build it's strength. Calliste knew the thoughts would come. She'd been fighting them since she'd gotten the call that she had been selected for the getaway she had never signed up for. She was there in veritable paradise. And where were her friends? Home - their shifts riddled with shoot outs. And where was her family? Her brother? He was in a hole, six feet below ground.

It took a monumental effort to stop the spiral. She rubbed her tightening chest with her knuckles and focused on her breath. He would want this for her. He would want her to see what he couldn't. 'His death will not stop me from living,' she thought. But that notion alone felt hypocritical. Isn't that exactly what had been happening for years? She bit the inside of her cheek and stood, hands on her hips. Deep breaths collected her thoughts. She wiped her eyes and huffed, drinking in the beauty around her. She glanced at her watch - six miles up meant six miles down. "Better get moving, Cal," she muttered. Breakfast was calling her name.

It wasn't long before she was back at the estate. Capri had come alive, and on her way through she'd grabbed a loaf of bread and an orange she swore had healing properties. She didn't bother heading back to the room she shared with Satine. Instead she made for the kitchen, intending to leave the bread on the counter and then make a bee-line for the pool.

    Craving coffee aka ambrosia

Bo-Mi stared at the spinning ceiling for a few moments after she finally managed to open her eyes. She tried to run her hand through her hair but... Missed, the first time at least. It wasn't unusual for her to wake up feeling so dizzy, though the pink haired girl would've sworn she didn't go that hard last night... Unless she just didn't remember which was also a possibility.

After steeling herself enough to sit up without gravity shifting in an unexpected direction she checked her arms. Often, when Bo-Mi knew she was gonna get really fucked up, she'd try to write messages to herself on her arms periodically. Often it was a good way to she just how out of it she got as her handwriting deteriorated, but this time there wasn't anything. Meaning either she simply forgot to, or she didn't take any tabs and her disorientation was just a regular ass hangover.

Getting out of bed, she felt a bit sore, and a little bit of a headache though nothing out of the ordinary; so Bo-Mi concluded she just needed some coffee. Though first, the girl headed to one of the many grand bathrooms that wasn't being used and took a quick but soothing shower. It was nice to just breathe and clear her head. It had been two weeks already, and yet it still felt surreal to be here in Italy... And with a bunch of beautiful women no less. Bo-Mi wasn't shy at all with her sexuality, but she had such a hard time finding relationships she could settle into. Flings and one night stands sure, but holding onto someone for more than a month felt impossible. Though it really felt like she couldn't hold onto herself in full honesty.

Last night... Walking down the beach with Ivy. It reminded her of home in so many ways, and she'd opened up a lot more than she normally would have been comfortable with. Especially since the feeling of homesickness had been creeping up.

A thought which reminded the girl to pick up her phone and text her Mom(s), even if they were probably still asleep. At least, until a swift notification proved her half wrong. Chinmi, Aunt Rin's wife, was a workaholic, either that or a vampire. Quickly replying, Bo-Mi put her phone in her pocket and headed down to finally get her long awaited brew of caffeinated ambrosia.

__ __

Bo-Mi sat alone at the kitchen island sipping her freshly roasted premium coffee blend, savoring each and every splash against her tongue. The smell alone was heavenly enough, and soon enough the mugginess of her withdrawal from the substance faded into pure bliss.

"How was Monte Solaro?" Bo-Mi asked with a smug smile from behind her coffee mug. She'd made her way up there the week prior, mostly just to stare at Vesuvius and envision Pompeii's destruction in her mind's eye. A morbid fascination from her childhood, the trek was brutal but worth it just from the view alone. Calliste McAllister; the older woman was gorgeous, mature, soft under the rugged callus of their skin, but still there was no mistaking the occasional look in their eyes. A reflection of fear, something long gone but ever present. Bo-Mi understood to some degree, even if it was clear their ghosts were two very different things.

RHYS BUCHANAN
location: capri > the house | mood: relaxed | outfit: xo | tags: tba
The last of the stars and moon clung to the velvet sky, the sun not yet making its glorious climb and washing light across the island. The sounds of sand gently being pulled and pushed by the calm waves filled a particular photographer with a sense of belonging. The breeze tickled their skin, quietly twisting and fluffing their mess of blonde hair as they walked along the coast, climbing over rocks and puddles of trapped sea water. It was quiet and lonely, but they didn’t mind. The warm glow of fishing boats departing the docks and setting up along sparkling blue water was enough company for them.

Long and slender limbs pulled their body up as they climbed up onto a small formation of rocks, eager to get the sunrise just right. A camera bag was strapped against their frame as they settled into their perch, pulling a small snack out of the bag’s pocket and quietly they waited. It had been two weeks since their grand adventure on the island of Capri had started and frankly, they were enjoying it. Sure, there were quite a number of overly friendly people staying in the rental, but there were also those who enjoyed Rhys’ work and didn’t mind their quirks.

It was nice to talk to people about their interests and introduce them to things without it getting pushed to the side. It was a nice escape from their usual pace of life, but they didn’t mind. They were getting plenty of material for the spread that they were going to release after they finished the trip. ‘A Summer in Itay’ was slowly becoming their pride and joy as the rolls of films collected in their room, waiting to be developed in the evening.

Tossing the empty wrapper back into the bag, Rhys pulled out their digital camera and adjusted it, feeling the weight of it in their hands before they prepared for the coming sunrise. Dawn broke, casting shades of purple across the sky, oranges and yellows swirling together and simmering on the clear ocean below. The sounds of the shutter taking multiple pictures were quickly drowned out by the sounds of birds singing praises of the warm light that awoke them from a deep sleep. The light danced across the sandy shores and climbed the rocks, splashing against pale skin and causing a shiver of excitement and awe to run through the blonde’s frame.

They really never could get used to it. It was such a beautiful sunrise every single day, each one different than the last, and it never failed to send shivers down their spine and a smile to form on their lips. As the sun continued its subtle ascent, Rhys switched over to their usual film camera after climbing down from their rocky perch. They took various pictures on the beach before they headed in the direction of town, wanting to capture the morning routine of those living in Capri. Faces that were merely strangers weeks before now were more familiar and had names attached, always offering a smile and cheerful greeting to the lanky artist that made their way down the cobblestone streets with a glint of interest in their eyes.

Hours passed as they wandered about town, stepping into their favorite cafes for a much-needed cappuccino and something small to eat. It was a simple routine and they enjoyed it thoroughly. They had pretty much spent every single day exploring the island for the first two weeks and seemed to have their own particular map formed in their brain. From the peaks of the mountain down to the hidden grottos, Rhys wasn’t one to leave any location undiscovered. While it had led to less time for socialization at the rental, they felt it was important to understand the island and every hidden gem it had to offer, no matter how small.

Unlocking the blue bike they had been using for the last couple of weeks, Rhys began to head back to the house, the sun acting as a warm blanket on their body as the breeze sent a chill across their exposed skin. It truly was a really enjoyable vacation. Once they reached their destination, they put the bike in their usual place and entered the kitchen from the outer entrance, quickly grabbing something they made the night prior from the fridge.

Jumping slightly from the addition of two of the house guests, Rhys nodded their head a little bit before moving out of the way, hands full of their morning meal and camera equipment. They went to their room as quietly as possible to drop off the cameras and simply relax in the house before they decided what to do for the rest of the day.

Sometimes, you don't know that you need a break until you go ahead and take that break. After adjusting to being off overnight shifts, Sadie found herself truly relaxing for the first time in quite some time since travelling to Capri. From motel guests complaining to the only person awake to completing her degree, Sadie didn’t realize just how busy she had been. These last two weeks of actually getting the full recommended hours of sleep (not during the daytime for once) and just letting herself enjoy her new surroundings have been wonderful. She was excited to see how the rest of the trip.

A small sigh escaped the brunette as she flipped through another page of her book. Currently, she sat on the edge of the pool in the sun to read. The weather was warm, but still comfortable for her. She would easily take in this time soaking in the sun. It was a nice contrast to the dreary weather that had been happening at home before coming on the trip. The sun already drastically improved her mood.

Sadie glanced back to the house as she took a bite out of her apple. So far, the people had been wonderful as well. Definitely all stunning in every way, but friendly and some interesting conversations took place too. While she had no expectations for this trip, she hoped to form some bonds with people. Even if it turned into a call every now and then when they returned to their homes. She shrugged to herself and gently moved her legs in the pool water as she refocused on the story in front of her.

Although later in the day she hoped to take another hike to watch the sunset, or even a calming nighttime swim. Perhaps she could even ask for some company, but you never know where the day can take you!

CALLISTE MCALLISTER

Location:Estate Kitchen

Wearing: X
Down; Marian Hill
The kitchen was all warmth and sun and coffee, all exactly what she had expected. Yet, in the middle of that idyllic Italian kitchen setting was Bo-Mi, exactly who she hadn’t expected. There was plenty to do in Capri, and a fair number of those activities went late into the night. Callie hadn’t ventured too far into the night life yet, but others had. Her presence made Cal check her watch. Was it later than she’d thought?

“Beautiful,” she chimed, setting her freshly procured loaf of pane pugliese on the island. She turned to pour herself a cup of coffee, and set about finding a cutting board. “I took one of the back trails,” she admitted with the flash of some secretive smile. With a bread knife in hand she cut a healthy slice from the end of the loaf, steam curling from the wound. The scent made her mouth water and for a moment she forgot to extend an offer. For fuck’s sake, she loved carbs.

”Would you like a slice?” She waited for Bo-Mi’s reply before leaning elbows on the island to stretch her hip flexors and take a bite. The experience after the exertion was divine.

A sip of coffee and she was able to act like a human again. ”How was last night?” she asked. ”I heard a bunch of the house stayed out late.” Bo-Mi, like many of the women in the house, was something of a mystery, but Callie liked the mischief in her expressions. It was already clear to her that the younger woman was a fun one to have around.

It had taken a text from her shift-mate a few nights into the trip to remind her - (You better be getting laid, Cal. I swear to fuck, if you’re being a loser I’m gonna put you on a stretcher myself when you get back, and you’ll be praying for the Lucas.) - that keeping herself distant wasn’t the right answer here. Not that she intended to get laid. She was all too happy to disappoint her friends there, but there was no use in being a loner.
