It was a regular day for the two, they were ordered to go on a quest two hours prior and were currently in a cave searching for a lost item. Maika was not sure why they were given such an easy quest, they were experienced adventurers after all. The entire walk through the cavern was boring for the most part and consisted of Maika whining. Her forte was offense, so it was disappointing to be all geared up and have nothing to attack besides the occasional bat. A flash of light illuminated the cave for a mere second, causing Maika to become excited again. It was hard to tell if it was raining outside and nothing else was happening inside the cave so she passed it off as lightning. "Why are we even doing this again?" She groaned, lighting the way with her fire magic. "They should have given this task to a few first years. We should be fighting off monsters and saving lives, not trying to find something that an old lady probably dropped while birdwatching." Maika mumbled, as they descended deeper into the cave. The lower parts were more intimidating, one wrong step would mean a fall to the death and she could hear the cries of several monsters. Things were finally getting interesting.

Thhe mission didn't even have a high ranking. A first year alone could have done it! Maybe he could complain to the higher ups and they'll do something about it... Or not. It mattered because he hated easy things because they didn't allow him to test his abilities. Kazuo, following behind Maika. She was complaining again... Like always. At least in his opinion. "Yeah... Now maybe if you shut your trap, things might get a litt- Oh... What's with the light?" He asked looking at Maika. "Keep talking... Things might become even more interesting." He joked.

"Hey! I'm not that annoy-" She groused before stopping in her speech. Of course he had to notice the light as well, she was rather intrigued on how such a light could have even appeared in such a dark cavern like the one they were standing in. However, she was determined to pass it off as a thunderstorm because honestly, she enjoyed to rant since it was rather rare to be put into such a lousy situation with a rank like theirs. "I'm sure it's just lightning Kazoo... we're in pretty deep so we probably just can't hear the rain." She told him, yawning. Her excuse made no sense considering that is not the way how sound in caves worked, but she was too stubborn. The murmurs of monsters began to grew louder as they continued walking, Maika became more alert with each cry she heard.

Being the cautious girl she was, she took out a potion that could help if they were attacked by anything, since it was apparent that whatever was making the noise was coming towards them. Little did she know, that the noises that these monsters were actually on the quieter side and only several feet behind her...

Kazuo had seen something on the ground and began inspecting it, while Maika went to do something else. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Lightning you say..." he said as he picked up the item. When the sound of monsters was mentioned, Kazuo upped his guard. "Monsters, eh? That sucks... I thought we were here for something other than a fight." Kazuo stood up and looked in Maika's direction, his eyes immediately widening, before he pulled out his sword and ran towards the three monsters behind Maika. Pushing her away, Kazuo fought off the monsters, but soon a rumbling noise could be heard. "Maika! Go! I can handle these guys!" He yelled as he defended both himself and her. "Go now!"

Kazuo had seen something on the ground and began inspecting it, while Maika went to do something else. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I do say so..." Maika huffed as the monsters approached even closer. She cocked her eyebrow up at Kazoo, there was a funny look on his face, like they was in danger or something. Kazuo wasn't really the type of person that was scared of the dark so she immediately knew something was up. She quickly looked over her right shoulder, only to see several monsters breathing over her. If she had more time and wasn't pushed out of the way, Maika would have probably complained about their bad breath. Kazuo managed to fight the monsters away, Maika was too startled to do anything besides run. The monsters had to be at least twice her size and had a lifeless expression plastered onto their faces, making them absolutely terrifying to Maika. Her survival instincts immediately kicked in and she took off running, knowing that Kazuo could take care of them, he even said so himself. She nodded when he yelled at her to leave since she was already doing so. Maika was completely speechless after coming so close to dying only a few moments ago so she didn't even say a word, completely unaware of the turn of events that this quest lead to. Her feet pounded against the cold stone, she felt a tinge of guilt as she ran back to the entrance.

She stood silently for a second as she Kazoo yelling at the monsters. Guilt still loomed over her for completely abandoning her partner, even if it was what he told her to do. The cacophony of the monsters cries was slowly dying down and the cave was completely sealed off with her partner inside. Maika's eyes welled up as she realized what had just happened and immediately came to the conclusion that her partner, Kazuo was dead. Even though Kazuo was strong, it would be almost impossible for anyone to survive such a tragedy. Tears rolled down Maika's feverish cheeks, leaving trails on her skin like rain on a dusty pane. She slowly walked back to the cave, occasionally wiping her eyes when the tears built up so much that it got in the way of her vision. The tools she had on her did nothing to help her dig through the rocks in hope of a body. It took her an hour of pushing aside rocks to get remotely close to where Kazuo would have been, but there were still no signs.

After catching herself from collapsing onto the rocks from the exhaustion she stopped, knowing that if she continued with her efforts she would lose her consciousness. Maika was catching her breath while sitting on one the boulder when she saw something familiar in the corner go her eye, she was quick to dismiss it as just a hallucination. The heat must really be getting to her head, perhaps she just give up now, it was obvious that her efforts were fruitless. No... No... No! She was going to search for his body even if it meant she would be at this site for years. A little part of her wanted to believe that jacket she saw poking out of the bolder was actually him. She carefully lifted away a heavy bolder that sat atop of 'him', that little part of her may actually was right for once...

Knowing Kaz he probably would have done something other than lie around if he wasn't unconscious. Maika shook his shoulder, hoping that he would wake up. "Kaz? Are you still here?"

Luckily Kaz was able to hear Maika's voice. His eyes opened and he stared up at the sky above thembefore his eyes traveled over to Maika. His lips slowly moved away from one another, words soon flying out. Words no one would want to here. "Who... Are you?" Kaz asked Maika with a curious look on his face as he sat up. "Who are you... And where are we?" Kaz went on. the memories gone... Of everything... And Everyone.

His lips slowly moved away from one another, words soon flying out. Words no one would want to here. "Who... Are you?" Kaz asked Maika with a curious look on his face as he sat up. "Who are you... And where are we?" Kaz went on. the memories gone... Of everything... And Everyone.

Her eyes lit up after seeing his eyes finally opened. She knew that it was wrong to feel so hopeful, even if it was just for five seconds. The truth was, she was shocked to see Kazuo to wake up after what happened several hours ago. Back where she used to live, a mining town, it wasn't unusual of for a cave to finally give in and collapse. However it was completely unheard of for anyone to survive this kind of trauma to the body, and yet his lips were already moving. Albeit slowly, but only it a matter of seconds before they formed words. "Who... Are you?" His words completely devastated Maika, the girl that had been by his side for several years now. Her wish that Kazuo would survive did not come without a price; his memories. Maybe he was just messing with her, it would have been extremely odd for Kazuo to be playing this kind of joke, but she wanted to believe anything other than her partner forgetting everything. Her eyes started to water up once again, she was shaking from the shock. "It's me? Maika!... You can quit the act now, joking about this sort of thing really isn't funny." She said, forcing a smile onto her face in a petty attempt to avoid the truth.

Her eyes widened, she was absolutely horrified... he wasn't joking. She did not want to believe that Kazuo has forgotten everything, but she also knew Kazuo well enough to know that he definitely was not the type of person to take a joke this far. Everything felt far too unreal to her, she hoped that she would to wake up any second, just to realize this was just an odd dream. The entire situation they were put in was surreal; adventurers of a high ranking being sent on a mission meant novices, a sturdy cave spontaneously collapsing, her partner surviving an attack from those mindless creatures and boulders, the person she had been paired up with for years that she knew so well forgetting everything. Maika sighed as she looked at Kazuo who was trying to stand up, her fake grin disappeared. " I know you, and I know where you live as well." She stated softly with a defeated look on her face. After all Kazuo had said, the one thing she was not suprised about was his head hurting. " I'll take you back... however, it might be better if we went to a healer or hospital instead."
