Jorvast Wolfmen

Philosophy:

"Mastering others is strength, mastering oneself is true power."

Core Magic:

Minor Alteration: Students learn early that their augmented flesh is not suited for this schools harsh lessons, quickly picking up on nuances of Alteration magic which allows them to augment their physical capabilities beyond the human body. Stronger bones, increased strength or quickened regeneration are all achievable, though most practitioners find they're gifted in a certain niche.

Heightened Senses: Alteration means adaption and to properly adapt to the situation one must be able to perceive it. Most students learn early to mimic senses of predatory creatures to better keep track of their surroundings, though using too many or too sharp a sense without proper training can easily cause an overload, much defeating the purpose.

Tools of the Hunt: It's not uncommon for students to show capacity of imbuement, which leads to teachings of basic bonding with their chosen tools. Often being able to manipulate the weight and durability or even remote use such as altering an arrows path mid flight. However, the methods taught in Jorvast are primal and work best when channeled using organic components; giving the school a reputations for using tools made with bone, leather and other more primitive materials

Minor Manifestation Shout: Enhancing your own perception is good, sometimes however enfeebling the opponent provides a real edge. Studies are focused on simple but effective manifestations that are usually not enough to eliminate a foe but certainly sufficient to distract them. Shout is a prime example of a amplified sound manifestation used to disorientate and unbalance others.

Advanced Magic:

Major Alteration: Pinnacle and namesake for the school is its focus on alteration magic that allows users to take a physically intimidating form similar to that of creatures of legend. Generally it combines most of the core magics into a refined whole. Graduates are expected to have mastered at least partial transformation and are expected to complete the skill on their own. While initially taking on an altered form consumes massive amounts of mana, sustaining it is less taxing.

Major Manifestation Howl: Depending on their altered form some magicians find that it lends itself better to certain manifestations allowing them to more frequently or easily cast them. Howl is a favorite among many being an empowered version of shout and coming easily to many shapes.

Major Manifestation Blizzard/Typhoon/Dusk: After learning to enhance oneself and enfeeble the opponent true masters of Wolfmen of Jorvast have taken to manipulating even the environment to their advantage. While seldom precise and often lengthy in casting these spells allow users to shape the battleground to their needs. The mana draw combined with the schools taxing signature ability means only the strongest of members will even bother attempting such feats.

History: Based out of Scandinavia the Jorvast Wolfmen are one of the older orders wrought in tales and traditions which reflect their ancient roots. While they treasure their heritage their true values lie in the students self reliance. No magician to claim his allegiance is anything less than a full fledged hunter. Not all of them track game or mythical beasts in search of a true challenge, some seek knowledge scouring far off libraries or enlightenment on the highest peaks.

Unlike many orders the Jorvast Wolfmen never held strong political ties which is partially due to their widespread yet decentralized structure. While there was a school, most members would spend their time following their own hunt; meeting at ritual sights during arranged times such as during the solstice and exchange information.

This helped with the silencing making it difficult to target members once the Jorvast Wolfmen lost their stronghold. Driven by innate fear of their magic and incited by the Silencer a group mundanes supported by local Jarls set fire to the building and its surroundings . While giving up their stronghold hadn't cost lives the true blow was to their moral and the school teetered on the brink of breaking apart. Only when Leif Wintermane ascended did the Jorvast Wolfmen see a turn in their luck, united behind the cause of a great hunt.

Now every decade the call for a new great hunt, a hunt for some neigh unobtainable goal such as the fountain of youth or isles of Avalon is called. Those who obtain the greatest results are put to the vote, taking the seat as the next head of the Order.

While a number of members saw action during the Nexite wars, there was little concentrated effort. While it was an unusual change for many members to move to New Atlantis the Jorvast Wolfmen found a renewed sense of community. Their expertise with Alteration magic allowed them to stand along other established Schools while some of their rogue members still bring news from outside.

Current Master: Outsiders occasionally find some amusement in the fact that Claire Solstrom is the current head of the Jorvast Wolfmen. Though few can keep their cheer once those piercing gray eyes have set upon them. She has earned her place by retrieving a splinter of Longinus spear during the last great hunt. While she shows great concern for members of her school she is known to be frosty toward strangers. She believes in personal strength and preaches self sufficiency; allowing members to learn from their own mistakes rather than step in an solve issue.
