Personality
Lawson is a quiet and polite person, the sort of respectable individual many chat with in public places but never really know or consider as more than an acquaintance. His demeanor is best described as calm and collected, and he tends to remain so even when under stress or pressure, as emotions aren't a motivator for him like they are for other people. That has the downside of making him a dispassionate person who struggles with empathy or understanding others' feelings. It also makes it difficult for him to make and maintain close relationships, because it's easy for others to be put off by his incredible ability to be callous. He's still a dependable person with a bit of a perfectionist streak, and the "protect the squad" mentality he developed early in his service in the Marine Corps remains one of his primary motives.

Bio
Lawson is the son of two Russian immigrants who fled the USSR seeking a better life in the United States, and did their best to give that life to their son. He was raised in northern Idaho, and his childhood was good, if not the most socially active one. He did okay in school, played sports, and tended to spend his free time helping his mother with the garden or working in his father's wood shop. Instead of waiting for the draft after he graduated from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps on a volunteer basis and served in the Vietnam War. After five years of active duty service, taking a bullet to the shoulder, and earning the MOS of Scout Sniper, he returned home to a father who'd died of cancer and grandparents he'd never met. Instead of facing this drastic change and trying to merge back into civilian life, he re-enlisted and ended up back on active duty. One of his tours was spent at a naval installation in Florida, and Lawson quite liked the state.
After this term ran out, he decided to settle there and began working as a carpenter. Not for long, however. He got into the hitman business by accident in '84; it was a case of mistaken identity, but Lawson ended up going along with the job as the money was good. It helped that the target wasn't exactly a good little Catholic. More contracts found their way to the ex-Marine, Lawson's aim and ability to be covert earning him the right kind of acclaim in the right circles.
