Nervously little Hikaru stumbled about the small pet shop, feeling rather anxious about the day. The owners of the shop were prepared to kick him onto the streets at the end of the day if he didn't find a master. He'd been available for quite a while, yet nobody had been interested in selecting him.

Perhaps it was the fact that he was a runt, being rather short and appearing to be on the weak side. Nobody was interested in an extremely needy neko, despite the fact he had a very child-like face. Though that could've easily been another reason he wasn't wanted.

With frustrated grumbles, the neko named Hikaru paced about his confinement, stressing about it not he'd be curled up on the side of the street that evening. He prayed that a kind soul may save him from such a pathetic state and accept him into their home. "I'll be a good boy! I don't want to end up alone on the streets." Hikaru thought, knowing he wouldn't be able to protect himself. The neko's thin tail swayed back and forth nervously.

Sato Katashi had just arrived in town with explicit instructions to take it easy and relax for once. His company also insisted that he go to the pet shop and get an ESA, Emotional Support Animal. Katashi entered the little shop his assistant had recommended and looked around. The front of the shop was a normal pet supply store with collars, food, and pet accessories. He went up to the front desk, feeling nervous, his hands sweating a little. "Um...Hi, I'm looking for a pet."

The woman behind the countered laughed. "Then you're in the right place."

He nodded, biting his lip. "Do you have any that would make a good ESA?"

The woman blinked and then smiled. "Sure, we have some Nekos if you'd like to look at them."

"Um...okay." He'd been expecting to get a dog, not a Neko. He thought it would be a little weird to own a Neko. They looked so human, besides the ears and tail of course. He didn't want to correct the woman though. Maybe he'd go look at the dogs after.

He followed the woman into a back room. There was a little whine as they entered, almost like an animal in distress. He hurried to the sound and saw a small teenage Neko, around seventeen maybe, pacing back and forth. He was adorable. Katashi's heart squeezed at the sight of the adorable little guy and he worried for a second that his head was going to overload with the cuteness.

"Hi," he said, smiling. Forgetting completely about the woman or what he was there for. He held out a hand. "You're a cutie."

Hikaru jumped back when he was suddenly approached, having not expected to receive any attention at all. It was strange to be noticed just like that, but he wasn't complaining.

When the hand was held out to him, he leaned forward to curiously sniff at his hand. His skin smelt sweet. Before Hikaru could even open his mouth to speak up and say something, the owner lady began shooing Katashi away from, "Mm, I'm not so sure you would want that. No no, that one is no good."

Hikaru pouted and flared up at the owner. However he took a step back.

Katashi nodded, frowning slightly. He wasn't going to get a Neko anyway, he reminded himself. He followed the woman to look at the other Nekos, but he kept glancing back at Hikaru, something about him having caught his attention. She showed him a bigger more mature looking Neko who was grooming herself with long swipes of her rough tongue across her right arm. She barely looked at Katashi as they neared.

"This one is much better. She's a purebred Bengal. Gorgeous and well tempered. She won't give you any trouble as you go about your day. Bengals like lots of attention and she isn't afraid of water."

She was pretty. Tall, blonde, and with spotted blonde ears that twitched a little to listen into their conversation, but she didn't look as sweet as the first one. He shifted and glanced back at Hikaru. "What exactly is wrong with that one?" he asked, nodding toward the Neko. Why didn't she want him to buy that one?

"Oh uh," the woman hesitated when Hikaru was brought up. Clearly she felt a bit uncomfortable talking about him. "He's a runt, therefore he's weak in every way. His mother even left him when he was just a child." She scratched the back of her neck before adding, "Basically that neko is just unwanted."

That was a bit harsh.

Hikaru completely ignored the rude lady, not interested in listening in on her rude words. Besides, he was more intrigued by the man who stood beside her. Curiously he gazed at the beautiful man, his tail swaying back and forth playfully as their gaze met a couple of times. "I-I'll be quiet, if that's what you're worried about. I've been here a long time and I'm willing to compromise in order to find a home, but more importantly make my master happy."

"Hush! We're done with you!" The lady snapped, kicking at Hikaru's cage, which caused him to jump back and yip. "Anyways..." She turned back to her customer.

Katashi was shocked by the woman's attitude. Without letting his mind take time to process what he was doing he shouted. "I'll take that one. Only that one. Where can I pay?"

The woman blinked. "No really you won't want that one and I don't want you to be coming back in a few days just to return the runt. It's a huge hassle."

"It's him or no one," Katashi replied, his voice steady for once even though on the inside he was shaking. He hated confrontation, but he couldn't believe how rude this woman was being. He looked back at the little Neko and smiled. So he hadn't planned on getting a Neko and he didn't have the slightest idea of how to take care of one, but there was no way he was leaving the Neko here with this woman.

Hikaru found a smile tugging at the edges of his lips, his heart skipping a few beats. He was feeling loved for once in his life. Someone actually cared enough about him to acknowledge him and accept him as a pet. With a sly grin sent in the direction of the biased owner, he happily skipped out of his cage once she unlocked it, making sure his tail whacked her on the way out.

"Whatever, just take the damn cat." The lady rang up the price at the front counter, which turned out to be less than the cost of a regular cat. Clearly she didn't think he was worth much.

Hikaru stood beside Katashi, gazing up at the man with a tilted head. He questioned why the man was different, why he actually cared. Lovingly he nuzzled his head against Katashi's side.

Katashi laughed and set his hand on the Neko's head, scratching him behind the ears. "What's your name?" he asked, leading the Neko to his car. He'd started to make a list of everything he'd need to get. A collar and leash, most parks didn't let owners walk around with unleashed pets. He'd also need to find a place for the Neko to sleep, though, he kissed the top of the Neko's head, maybe he could just let him sleep in his bed. Cats often slept in the same beds as their owners didn't they?

"Hikaru~" The neko purred when his ears were scratched, adoring the sensation. "What's your name, master?" He wasn't sure if was supposed to refer to the man as master or refer to him by his first name. "Where're we going?"

Hikaru. Cute.

It felt weird being called master, but Katashi didn't really mind. He found to his surprise that he actually quite liked it. "I'm Katashi and I was thinking that we'd go to the store to get you a few things, like a new wardrobe, leash, collar, toothbrush, etc. Would you like me to get a bed for you? Or are you okay sleeping in mine?"

It was very strange to be talking to a pet. He felt a little nervous taking to the Neko, a little worried that he might say the wrong thing. He wanted Hikaru to like him and to feel comfortable with him. He kept having to remind himself that Hikaru was a pet not a human, and not someone to get flustered over. He opened the passenger seat to his car and motioned for Hikaru to climb in.

"Katashi..." Hikaru repeated slowly, taking in the name. He liked that name.

"Oh, you don't need to buy me anything! Really! I-I don't need to be spoiled." He was trying to be humble. "I don't mind sharing a bed. Would you want me to be on my own?"

((Sorry for the short posts. I'm in class right now, so please forgive me.))

((that's okay. School should come first (^.^)))

Katashi looked at Hiraru from the corner of his eye and scratched the Neko behind the ears. "It's no problem. I'm a pet owner now. It's my job to take care of you." He drove them to a pet supply shop that was targeted for Neko owners. He shrugged . "It would be easier if I didn't have to buy another one, but it's really about what you feel comfortable with." He pulled into the parking lot and led Hiraru in to look at the collars.

"It's the opposite actually. It's my job to take care of you." Hikaru pointed out with a shy smile, hesitant but still there. He fiddled with the end of his tail.

"I will warn you that I'm a cuddler," with a sweet giggle he followed his new master into the store. There was quite the selection of collars. He prayed that he wouldn't be placed one that had that girly bows on it, though he would undoubtedly look adorable. Playfully he prodded one of he collars with a dangly bell, biting down on his bottom lip to keep from smiling after it jingled, adoring the soft noise.

Well that was interesting. No one had ever taken care of Katashi before, not even his parents. He'd spent the majority of his childhood shipped of to boarding schools and out of the way. He smiled when Hikaru started to play with the bell of a collar. He settled against Hikaru from behind and reach over to pick up the collar. "I like this one." He went and found a matching leash and got a little tag to go with it.

He brought the tag up to the front and had the lady engrave "Hikaru" into the front and then Katashi's contact information on the back. When it was done he steadied Hikaru's shoulders and tilted the Neko's head up. "Hold still okay." He gently put the collar on, the bell and tag resting against the front of the kitten's neck. "You're adorable." Katashi leaned forward and kissed Hikaru on the forehead.

He never would have been that bold with a human, but the Neko dropped all his walls. He was just too cute. He'd had his doubts about this at first, but already he wasn't feeling as lonely as before and going out was as nerve wracking when he had someone with him. Even if that someone was just his pet.

Once the collar and leash had been selected, Hikaru curiously looked over the engraved tag, smiling at the sight of his name as well as Katashi's. He finally belonged somewhere.

Hikaru's breath hitched when he positioned straight then his chin tilted up, not used to physical contact. However he remained still as he had been commanded. Then his forehead was kissed and was referred to as adorable, causing his cheeks to flush with a rosy color. Wasn't sure why, but that made his heart skip a beat.

"I like the bell. The jingle is cute." Wasn't sure how to respond to being called adorable. "Master, why did you pick me? Like the lady said, I'm nothing special."

Katashi petted Hikaru's head, rubbing behind the Neko's ears. Why had he chosen him? He couldn't really explain his uncharacteristically spontaneous decision. "I don't know really," he said dropping his hand and going down the aisles of the pet shop. "I hadn't even planned to get a Neko at all, but it was because there was something special about you that caught my attention. Now please forget everything that woman said. She doesn't know everything and it seems like she knew absolutely nothing at all about you. If she had she never would have said you weren't special."

Katashi took things down from the shelves that he thought they might need and placing them in the cart: toiletries, toys, an extra pillow and some blankets. Then he took Hikaru over to the stuffed animals bin. "Pick something you like."

Hikaru couldn't help but return to purring when his ears had once again been scratched. It was a delightful feeling. He loved it.

"Huh, that's strange that you selected a neko then. What were you planning to get? A puppy? A kitty?" Hikaru knew that those kinds of pets sold well, at least compared to nekos. When people thought of purchasing a pet, they didn't normally think of buying one that was part human.

His face lit up with joy when they approached the stuffed animals. Immediately he was drawn to a plush bunny. It was a large plus his, practically the size of little Hikaru. "So cute and fluffy~" he muffled into the doll's belly.

"I was thinking about getting a puppy, but I'm glad I didn't. Then I wouldn't have met you."

Katashi laughed when Hikaru glomped a bunny plushy "Okay that one it is. Ready to go home?" He thought it was adorable that Hikaru had chosen something almost as big as himself. It made his heart fluttered the little Neko was so cute.

"Aww, Master you're too sweet. You're going to make me blush again." Hikaru muttered as he revealed his face once again, having removed it from the plushie.

Hikaru quickly nodded his head, "I'm ready. I want to see our new home." He followed his master back to the car once everything had been purchased, the bunny still tightly gripped in his hands. "Is it a nice place? Is the bed bouncy?!" The neko was such a child at times.

"It's a summer home by the beach," Katashi said. "The company I work for set it up for me. I have tried out the bed yet, so I guess we'll have to see."

They drove home, Katashi trying to answer any questions the little Neko had.

Trying to be helpful, Hikaru gathered all the shopping bags once they arrived at the home. He whimpered when he mistakenly dropped his large bunny, not being able to hold that as well. His attempt to be helpful lead to him needing help himself. "Oopsy..."

Katashi laughed and picked up the bunny. "Here give me some of those," he said taking the bags from Hikaru and leading him to the bedroom. It was a large room painted in light blues and sandy creams. Across from the entrance to the room were two large glass doors that swung out and led to the beach. In the middle of the room was a large canopy bed with whisper soft curtains fluttering in the breeze from the open doors.

Katashi set the bunny on the bed and smiled at Hikaru. "Set those down for a minute. We can set everything up later. Lets go play on the beach."

"Ah, I was trying to be helpful." Hikaru pouted when Katashi ended up taking everything. Great, not only was he not able to carry much, but he had made his master do all of it in the end.

He gasped at the sight of the beach. It was absolutely stunning. "M-Master, we live here?" He was struck with surprise. Lifted a hand to cover his open mouth. "Let's go! I'll race you!" Eagerly he opened the glass doors to race out onto the warm sand, kicking off his shoes on the way.

Katashi was surprised when Hikaru took off down the beach. Laughing he stumbled out of his own shoes and ran off behind the little Neko. He raced forward, feeling the warm sand shift beneath his feet and he surprisingly didn't feel self-conscious at all about looking like an idiot. Well he supposed it was just him and Hikaru, his pet, so there wasn't anyone to look stupid for.

Even though the little Neko had a head start he was fairly small and didn't have Katashi's long legs. Katashi caught up to him quickly, grabbing the Neko around the waist and swinging him off the ground, laughing and eventually falling on his back with Hikaru.
