background: Kelly was born into an upper middle class family, so she never really had to worry about money and that sort of things. Her mother was very overprotective and spoiled her daughter rotten, giving her almost anything she wanted. Her father was often busy with his work, so he and Kelly rarely spent any time together but on the few occasions he had some free time they'd often go fishing together. It was on one of these fishing trips when she was 16 she discovered her powers, she accidentally cut herself when she was trying to gut one of the fishes she'd caught. She put her hand over the wound to stop the bleeding as her father ran to the car to get an first aid kit, but the wound was healed long before he returned.
After she figured what had happened and what it meant, she started to acting much more recklessly since she thought that she would be able to heal whatever injury she might get. Her parents assumed that this was some sort of phase that all teenagers go through and let her do whatever she wanted in the hopes that she would get it out of her system. But shortly after that, all the adults disappeared and the weird barrier appeared. When that happened she decided to use her power to heal all the kids who would get hurt.
Misc: Kelly has a tattoo on her left arm that reads, "Vivere senza rimipianti" which is Italian for "Live without regret". Ironically, she regrets getting the tattoo since it is misspelled. It should be "rimpianti" and not "rimipianti".
