Name: Kaladine Vol Vasian
Age: 25 ish

Bio: Kaladine was born approximately 25 years ago presumably somewhere in the western archipelago. Her mother led a tribe of island nomads, or as they were more commonly known on the mainland ‘raft raiders’. They never made it much past the mountainous coast though, thanks to the harsh rocks and waters. It also helped that high in the cliffs were thick with fortresses that made good use of the high ground.
When Kaladine was a small child a new coastal duke declared war on her mother, his aggression was unprecedented and the risk paid off early. This was until the duke lost his son, but managed to capture Kaladine in revenge. Unfortunately, by the time the young Kaladine was brought to the duke’s fortress and the ransom issued, her mother had been overthrown for her losses in the war.
This left the duke with a problem, despite his combat ability he found killing a small girl difficult, after all there wasn’t really a point anymore. So he kept Kaladine around.
Kaladine grew up in the Duke’s fortresses, life was quite, not many people came that far west and the raft raiders weren’t up to fighting as they rebuilt. She spent a lot of time reading, getting rather well educated if she does say so herself. As sole heir to the dukedom of Westalehm she’s been trained to run her territory as her adopted father aged and became more withdrawn.
Appearance: She has her native people’s pale silvery hair and dark skin, she’s fairly tall but still slight, she still wears old beads in her hair but is otherwise dresses to make her status as duchess clear.
Role: Technically she’s in line to be the West Guard but in these more peaceful times she spends her time building her fortress’s Library. As a fairly wealthy but mostly redundant woman Kaladine doesn’t have much political sway but the position she stands to inherit is still prestigious.
Her focus for the moment is building stronger ties with the other families, as a relative outside she could do with having more allies. She’s also interested in retaking the western archipelago, continuing her father’s legacy, rumour has it there’s still valuable information in raider territory, and their silence is getting suspicious.
Personality: Kaladine doesn’t say much, her accent and difficulty with the language are mostly deliberate affectation at this point but she finds people seeing her as slow can have its uses. She’s very reserved, so as to make it crystal clear she’s no savage. However, someone she considers an intellectual equal or curiosity can draw out a sharper wit.
