Futuristic Journey to Arietis

Lemon Lady

New Member
Currently all roles have been filled and this RP is set to begin within a couple days.

Venture Industries is sending a team of highly trained specialists to Arietis to be the first people there and claim the land. The year is 2319, Earth is united under a unified government and space exploration is one of the most lucrative fields; colonies on Mars and other plants have proved successful. Now, humans are seeking out a planet like earth that can sustain mass amounts of life. By new Earth law, to promote growth in the private space industry, the first company that puts humans on the planet gets a huge grant and first rights to colonization. Arietis is one of the first possibly habitable planets discovered outside of our solar system that is within reach of the space travel capabilities we have today.

Captain: The captain watches over the ship, delegates tasks, directs the pilot, plans all excursions, and is in charge in case of any emergency. To be in this position, they require strong leadership skills, and is able to stay cool under pressure.

Pilot: The pilot’s duty is to make sure everyone gets where they’re going safely. Is an expert in aerospace vehicle navigation, with extensive experience in astronomy and navigating the stars however is required.

Mechanic: The mechanic is in charge of maintaining the transportation vessel and keeping it up to its fullest, most efficient state. They know how to take apart and put back together nearly any aerospace vessel, and they know all the ins and outs and all arounds of all models of spaceship.

Medic: In charge of all medicinal functions of the expedition, including diet, exercise, and disease prevention. Knows how to treat all manner of wounds, has access to a sick-bay aboard the spaceship. Has the highest possible scholarly degree in spacefaring medicine, as well as a general medicinal degree established for the sake of space exploration.

Scientist: In charge of gathering data regarding the viability of Arietis for human habitation and colonization. Data to be gathered includes primarily atmospheric and geological composition of the planet. Highly qualified, educated in many different fields.

Company Representative: Venture is sending a trained representative to oversee the success of this mission. They are there to protect the investment Venture has made into this expedition, and ensure that they are the first humans to arrive on the planet by any means necessary. This representative has received extensive space exploration training so they are well prepared for the rigors of this journey

Character Name: Mara Rice

Aliases: Sky Queen

Age: 29

Gender: Female

Position: Captain, Leader of all these good men and women.

Appearance Description (no pictures): Mara’s legs and arms are lanky. She stands at a solid 5’9 with a mostly average build besides her long limbs. Her hair is a redder shade of chestnut that is straight as a board and reaches her shoulder blades. You’ll normally find her suited up in some kind of jumper or Blouson jacket and jeans. Her face is composed of a sharp chin and jawline, a straight nose that comes to a small point, and dark blue eyes that looked green in dark settings. She walks with good posture and confidence.

Personality Description: Mara is even tempered and is generally hard to ruffle. She’s excellent at diffusing tension in difficult situations and taking the lead in emergencies. In fact, her leadership skills are what advanced her career to this point. She has always been one to volunteer and take things in stride; which her superiors noticed. Mara often finds herself bored and roaming, doing whatever she can find until she was entertained again. If she knows you well she’ll talk your ear off about whatever topic was on her mind most recently.

History: Born in a small town in Washington, Mara had a decently normal childhood of schooling and hobbies. She was smart, and did well in her classes and extracurricular activities. Science and space fascinated her. She began to grow interested in space and flight programs. With the growing drive for colonization, positions for space workers had been made readily available. Aptitude testing showed she was highly qualified to begin training as an astronaut. She went through the basic programs before things changed. Before she knew it she went from training to just be an astronaut to being a private ship pilot. Astronauts needing to space walk was a thing of the past with the kind of technology humans had developed. Commercial space piloting was an easy gig that she did when she wasn’t studying other possible careers. She oftentimes found herself going on months long journeys to faraway planets in their solar system to make a delivery or watch over one. As she did this more, her credibility grew and she rose in position from just a pilot to a first mate. Eventually, after much study and hard work, she received her captain’s certification, With this, she turned to finding better jobs. She wouldn’t take the old jobs where you sit and do nothing in the black for 4 months. Her new interest was exploration, working for companies that were exploring new technology and astronomy. Mara had so happened to overhear some colleagues discussing the new spot Venture Industries had opened and were taking applicants for. It seemed like a dream come true, the chance to do something no one had done before, and she would be a captain while doing it. With her resume in order, she interviewed and was lucky to be selected for the position. Despite Mara’s easygoing nature and attitude, she has failed to make many long standing relationships besides the ones with her family members. Going into space every other month didn’t help this, but the blame was also partly on Mara. She found it hard to make deeper connections to people. The most meaningful way she normally expresses herself is through her work, through her leadership.

Miscellaneous: Mara enjoys acoustic guitar, VR video games, and a good glass of wine. When by herself she mostly spends her evenings consuming books, films, and the internet. She’s had casual relationships but nothing that led her to believe she was going to settle down. It just wasn’t in her heart.

Character Name: Billy McCloud
Aliases: Dr McCloud
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Position(Medic): Keeping everyone healthy and mostly alive
Appearance Description (no pictures): 5 feet 3 inches. 160 pounds. Short but stronger than he looks. Short curly ginger hair, with glasses that frame his round face. Usually in shorts in and a t-shirt when not working but switches to button up, jeans, and a lab coat. Tries to keep a clean shave but ends up with an unkempt beard most of the time.

Personality Description: Has a tough exterior and pretends not to care about his crew/friends but would do anything to keep them safe. Takes a lot to get through his tough exterior but once you do he will anything for you. Not very trusting but once you gain is trust it's hard to lose it. He always tries to keep a calm exterior but worries heavily about everything around him. Billy constantly doubts himself but always pushes himself to do better and push himself farther.

History: As soon as he was born his thrust into a life of luxury and everything he could have ever wanted. His parents both high ranking government officials did all they could to provide for their only child. Due to this however they were very rarely home and he was left to be raised by a rotating assortment of housekeepers. He dealt with this by throwing himself into school , sports and other academia hoping to get his parents to be impressed enough to see him in action. Despite his amazing performance in school and his above average performance on his sport teams his parents never showed up to anything he did and because of this Billy never felt that he was good enough. He kept pushing himself harder and always tried to be better and because of this got into the best medical school on the globe and graduated at the near top of his class. Before joining on with this crew Billy was finishing up his residency at a well respected hospital in the New New York area when he was recruited and trained by venture industries to go on their next manned mission.

Character Name: James Kepler

Aliases: Mr. Kepler

Age: 26 biologically, 32 Chronologically due to cryo-sleep

Gender: Male

Position(Scientist): Science

Appearance Description (no pictures): 5’9, Blonde medium length hair, average build. Not very muscular. Does not own many clothes, but owns an incredible amount of gear, most of it he had to leave behind. Usually wears a random of selection of clothes he still has from college.

Personality Description:

Arrogant, snarky, absorbed in his work. He looks down on other fields of study, and believes he is better than anyone he meets. Values scientific advancement over human life, and does not value the opinions of his fellow crewmates. Not easy to get along with. Spoiled due to wealthy parents and comfortable upbringing, has never been in a fight and would not last very long on his own.

Likes to argue, and read about events back at home. Is excellent at his job, and holds himself to the highest standard. Has never had to deal with failure, and has never faced genuine hardship. Has a general disdain for his fellow man, believing they largely waste their time on frivolous pursuits. Is committed to increasing the knowledge of mankind, and making sure that everyone knows he is responsible for it.

History:

Recently graduated top of class from New Oxford on Mars, educated specifically for colonial surveys, but has background in other fields as well. Was reluctantly lauded by professors, who found him insufferable but could not deny his talent. Was first recognized by Venture Industries when he saved the corporation a considerable sum of money by designing a probe that was superior to the one made by their lead designer, the blueprint of which was found in between lecture notes on a notebook found in his room’s garbage.

Picked up immediately out of college to go on this mission, but has participated in many other spacecraft missions as part of education, involving multiple cryo-sleep missions. Family is wealthy, and very supportive, but James does not keep in touch as he has become absorbed in his research. His mother was recently quoted as saying: “as long as he’s doing what he loves, I am happy,” but did not comment on her son’s lack of communication for the last five or so years.

CHARACTER NAME -- Griffith Davies

ALIASES -- Griff, Davie (He prefers Griffith.)

AGE -- 31

GENDER -- Male

POSITION -- Pilot

APPEARANCE DESCRIPTION -- [REFERENCE SKETCH.] Griffith is a tall, broad-set man whose eyes betray his stature. He’s six feet, two inches strong in height and weighs 212 pounds in mostly muscle. He’s stocky, with large shoulders and a broad chest, but his muscle is not hugely defined on his body, smoothed out by chubbier areas. He’s much stronger than he looks, and he prefers not to parade it to everybody. A square face holds a straight-bridged nose -- or, what was once straight-bridged, and has since been bent. Occasionally, he allows dark stubble to grow, but he prefers not to have intense facial hair. A worry line exists between his thick dark gold eyebrows, positioned above deep, calm blue eyes. The ghosts of bags trace underneath his eyes from scattered sleep. Locks of dirty blonde hair ripple slightly in waves, but he tries to maintain it by chopping it into an undercut. He doesn’t like fancy clothes and usually just goes with some jeans and a dark shirt.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION -- Griffith is about as quiet as quiet gets. He really seems to want to avoid interacting with people, but when forced to, he’s not quite so bad to be around. Despite being a man of few words, it’s easy to sense that whatever he tells you is his truest truth. He’s blunt and straightforward when inquired about anything, and avoids personal topics in conversation like the plague, preferring to keep his personal life personal. If pestered, it’s difficult to break his patience, but with enough annoying persistence, he’s sure to cut off the encounter eventually -- and it might not be in the friendliest of manners. He’s very intuitive, trusting his gut nine times out of ten in most situations. He’s very sharp and picks up on things with relative ease, displaying a taught intelligence from his years of astronomical study and piloting missions. He’s very emotionally distant, even with people he’s close to, and sometimes has trouble communicating intimacy and vulnerable emotions to others.

HISTORY -- Griffith’s early life was somewhat modest, but strenuous at times. A strained relationship with his father caused a lot of unnecessary disagreements, and Griffith often looked to his mother for support and care. The relationship never improved, but Griffith lived a fairly normal middle-class lifestyle for a majority of his life. When he turned eighteen, his father did not hesitate to kick Griffith out the first opportunity he had, despite extreme opposition from his mother, and he roomed with friends until nabbing a couple of jobs and working his ass off for several months.

His mother pressed Griffith to pursue higher education, and despite his complaints, he enrolled to appease his worried parent. One of his first classes was an astronomy class, which he assumed would be easy credits to get ahead -- but he came to find that what was being studied in his class actually interested him. The spark lit a flame that consumed Griffith, plunging him into a pursuit of more knowledge about space. After saving a decent living fund, Griffith took off from his friend’s couch and bought his own tiny apartment, and it was there that much of his future work would be built upon.

Countless nights were spent at his cheap desk in his small, lamp-lit room writing papers, researching, researching, vigorously filling his head with more and more mysterious things about the hugeness and variety in the universe. He continued to work enough to provide for himself, and climbed college classes, desperately trying to find a reliable subject to major in, something that he could depend on in the future. In his endeavors, Griffith befriended a wealthy young man named Cullen, who would end up becoming one of his closest pals -- and the gateway to Griffith’s future.

As Cullen’s family had plenty of wealth to spare, Griffith was invited to many of his adventures, despite Griffith’s constantly full schedule and polite declines to his invites. One invite, though, was something that he couldn’t turn down: a night ride in a personal aircraft of Cullen’s family. It was the first time he had ever flown, and it was certainly not going to be the last. Cullen enthusiastically allowed Griffith to co-pilot, teaching him the basic functions of the craft, and he was hooked. Everything, from manipulating the craft to seeing the incredible sky filled with stars was alluring to him, and an epiphany struck him as he watched the stars from so high up: he wanted to go out there. He didn’t want to just look at the stars from the ground anymore. He wanted to see it up close and personal.

Griffith wasted no time looking into piloting, and it wasn’t long before he began to study into combining his classes to pursue one specific thing -- aerospace piloting. His jobs, his education, and his pursuit of actual piloting experience formed to make the most difficult period of his life, when stress came to an all-time high. However, with great difficulty, Griffith scraped through managing to keep clothes on his back and food in his stomach while still making a future for himself. His mother was his biggest support through all of it, constantly checking in with him, ensuring he got enough sleep, enough food and water, enough self-care. This continued for four long years as he worked up to a degree in astronomy, which opened the gateway for another few years of working towards a masters degree. As he did, he sought out knowledge and experience from Cullen, and Cullen assisted him in finding other pilots to interact with and discuss with. He slaved to earn his piloting license, and contacted many famous pilots to seek more experience and foresight from them.

After these several years of work, Griffith piled up an impressive resume of intellectual and on-hand experience, and he put himself out for freelance work as an aerospace pilot for a number of jobs. Though he never officially joined any sort of company, he gained a lot of traction in the piloting field, as he seemed so willing to take on even dangerous missions. He was, and continues to be, consistently reliable in completing every mission, even if some missions succeeded holding on by the skin of their teeth. In truth, there was nothing Griffith enjoyed more than his job. Even now, being the seasoned pilot that he is, he still feels that soaring passion for exploring the unknown. As his reputation grew, he was sought out by larger and larger corporations, up until this extraordinary offer by Venture Industries. When he was offered the position, he took it immediately, excited at the chance to see further out in space; the actual goal of the mission is more of a side-note.

MISCELLANEOUS -- Allergic to dogs. Likes to pursue cooking casually as a hobby.

Character Name: Rynn Tark

Aliases: Rynn

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Position: Mechanic

Appearance Description: Rynn is a tiny thing being only 5 feet tall, she has short wavy red hair and hazel eyes. While she is short she is muscular, her left arm has several small scars on it from working on machines for the past few years. Her right arm is entirely mechanical due to an accident several years ago.

Personality Description: Rynn is a sweet caring person with a bubbly personality, when not tinkering away at something she can be easily distracted always looking for something new to work on. While working on anything she can easily space out and get into the zone, at times putting herself in jeopardy at times (How do you think she lost the arm?). To Rynn every mechanical issue is a mystery that she wants to figure out. She is resourceful and if she doesn't have the necessary parts she will try to find a way to solve the issue. There are times where it doesn't have to look pretty, it just has to work.

History: Rynn was born on an off world colony to two loving parents and 4 older brothers, when Rynn was older her parents started a small shipping business and were on the move constantly. From then on Rynn's family lived in their largest shipping vessel the Meridian. While a tad cramped Rynn and her family became used to life on a ship. During this time Rynn helped her family out on the ship and gradually learned how to fix a few small things. Her small size allowed her to squeeze into areas other's couldn't, she began getting more interested in the mechanical aspects of the Meridian and pretty much any ship she was on. In her free time she began looking at ship blueprints and became fascinated by their inner workings.

When she was older she would help her brothers out with deliveries acting as their ships mechanic and by the time she was 18 she was making deliveries by herself. Despite her small appearance she was quiet capable of carrying her own when it came to workload or physical weight of replacement parts. When she was back at home aboard the Meridian she was constantly scurrying around the ship finding things to repair or optimize. She wasn't a prodigy she made plenty of mistakes and errors, one day she 'optimized' the Meridian's engines, the second they were flipped on they cut power to the entire ship life support and all. It took the entire family to fix the mistake, Rynn felt horrible for her error but took it as a learning opportunity "Maybe working on things without testing them is bad!" Rynn took greater precautions when it came to repairing ships from then on, but while she wouldn't dare put a ship or others in danger she did at times put herself in danger.

Being a mechanic did have it's share of troubles, several cuts and burns on on her arms and legs. During one repair Rynn was fixing the engine on her ship, the damn thing stalled while she was out making a delivery. She should've powered down the entire engine but it would take several hours to re-power once the repair was done. She figured she could easily fix the issue then be on her way, while reaching into an engine core her hand slipped triggering the ignite sequence. Rynn doesn't remember much of what happened after that, she remembers time slowing down as the once dark core began glowing red and a faint heat circling her arm. She woke up in a medbay aboard her parents ship, she couldn't feel her arm. A small cloth covered her limb and she feared the worse, before she could ask questions she passed out from pain. Rynn woke again in an actual hospital, her right arm now gone and a bandaged stump in its place. After her recovery Rynn left her parents business, not due to malice but because her near death experience made her realize that she's only ever seen a small portion of space and if she could die that easily she may as well die seeing the far reaches of space.

Miscellaneous:
  • If she has nothing to work on she is usually making small repairs or calibrations on her arm.
  • She has a tattoo that starts at the top of her neck that continues down her left arm
  • Has several stashes of snacks hidden throughout whatever ship she is working on
  • If she is REALLY bored she has snuck into the inner workings of the ship and crawled around and spied on peoples rooms, just to see what's in there

Character Name: Virginia Augustus

Aliases: None

Age: 23

Gender: Woman

Position: Venture Representative: I am here to represent the interests of myself and Venture Industries, anything else comes second.

Appearance Description (no pictures):

5’ 6” 150 Pounds. Virginia is a heavy set woman with broad shoulders. She has straight blonde hair that she often puts into a bun. Her eyes are hazel with golden specks.

Personality Description:

Virginia is cool and calculated. It takes a lot to fluster her and she is reliable when you need a plan quickly. That plan may not be in your best interest though. She is hard headed and stubborn. She will never back down when she is in an argument even if she has been proved wrong. Virginia has a one track mind and once she has a goal she will put all her effort into achieving that goal even if it means neglecting other responsibilities.

History:

Virginia has grown up in the upper echelon of society. Her father is the founder and CEO of venture’s top competitor. Her oldest of two brothers was assassinated in an act of defiance against Venture’s inhumane labor practices. Ever since this Virginia has been kept separate from most of society. Deep resentment for her father’s treatment of her brother’s death lead to her distancing herself from him. To defy her father Virginia decided to seek a role at Venture Industries. Virginia’s social standing and general family wealth allowed for her to afford the best tutors in all business applicable subjects. Despite this the one thing that they couldn't teach her was empathy. The loss of her brother severely impacted Virginia. She sees enemies everywhere and has trouble making connections with people. This didn't impede her ability to climb the sociopolitical ladder and she made it to the top of Venture at a record pace and is the youngest Venture Representative in history.

Hi Wooness! I'm happy to say your character has been accepted for the role of Mechanic! How soon would you be able to start?

Humans had advanced, progressed. The human race, which once thought the earth was nothing more than a plate, had now escaped the chains that once bound them to it. We had exploded in a mass of advanced technology, and space exploration. Ion thrusters, teleporters, freaking cargo carrying spaceships, things science fiction had only dreamed of a couple hundred years ago. We had grown a hunger and a fear, a fear that we would die on this planet with no legacy, no prospects. One apocalyptic event and the human race was done for good. Earth leadership had riled up the public, gotten everyone’s hearts burning with passion to save the species future. We developed the tech, trained the explorers, and followed our dreams.

Dreams were another very interesting thing, or what it relates to rather. Scientists had worked out much more of the information on what’s behind sleep. Even these achievements, though, were related to space. With the secrets of sleep, mixed with our advanced technology, the option to travel great distances in comfort became available. Before cryo-sleep, some poor soul would have had to live for a year staring into the black; just to get them there, only halfway. Now, the ship had an auto-pilot set while everyone slept.

That was, until right now.

A low hissing was the first new noise to sound in the warm room for a year. The room was on the second deck of this silver bullet of a ship. The grey walls of the room might’ve looked like a prison if there wasn’t bright, LED lights that brightened them. The lights were off before the hissing, but started to come on slowly. Six cryo-sleep pods were neatly arranged in the room three on each side. Silver lockers and benches lined one of the walls, the opposite had a large screen on it. As the hissing noise began, the screen lit up gradually, filling the room with a soft light.

Only one pod opened at first, the white exterior lifted and then slid up, exposing the sleeping woman underneath it. Soft music played through speakers placed around the room. Vents in the corners started blasting warm air, heating the room so that it wouldn’t be uncomfortable for the waking workers.

Mara woke from sleep slowly, a habit she had had since she was young. When up, she was alert and attentive; when waking from sleep, she was slow and groggy. Those symptoms were amplified because of the fact she had been asleep for a year. Her brain felt like it was filled with mud, her body felt weak and achy, and she sure as hell didn’t feel rested.

How ironic.

She was still in the fetal position, the same way she had been when she went out. Her muscles twitched a bit as she got used to the feeling of movement again. Her joints ached, in a pain she couldn’t explain. Her jaw clenched and she groaned softly. The pain was intense. She blearily opened her eyes for a second before slamming them shut and covering her eyes with her hand. Her eyes weren’t used to light yet. Mara was so confused, for a moment she couldn’t remember where she was, what she was doing here…

/Mara’s my name and space is my game./. The little mantra played in her mind, a clear thought in a sea of blur. She clung to that thought, using it to remember….remember that she was here, she was on….a spaceship! Remembering that triggered the memories to come flooding in. She still ached, but her confusion and fear were lessening. The pain and confusion was explained for her now, she knew she would just have to do her best to work through it.

The light on her eyelids got brighter, and she tentatively peeked through her fingers to see a message scrawled across the screen.

“Good evening Captain Rice. We hope your sleep was pleasant. Your instructions wait for you in your locker.” She groaned at that, a command already issued and she hadn’t been up for five minutes. So it goes.

After taking a moment to gather her energy, Mara pushed herself up into a sitting position and let out a magnificent yawn. She was taking a moment to enjoy the silence, the emptiness. It would be the last time she would be truly alone until next time she climbed into this tube.

When she couldn’t procrastinate any longer, she swung her right leg off the bed and leaned her toe against the floor; testing her muscles and seeing if she could hold her weight. Surprisingly, she put weight on her feet and legs and they held. She felt a little weak, but not like she had just been sleeping for a year and the state her muscles should be in. She would have to ask that scientist….oh what’s his name…..Jim? James! She would have to ask James how she isn’t just a floppy noodle.

The first thing she wanted to do was take some painkillers. She took her time getting to her feet and taking painful steps towards the lockers. Six of them had names on them, the one labeled “Mara” would contain some old-school over the counter tylenol inside of a denim bag along with other things. She pulled the door open and stuffed her hand into the sack, fiddling around with the contents until her fingers touched a curved pill bottle.

A small patch of wall under the large screen opened, and a tray slid out that held a good twenty water bottles. Hm.

She hadn’t noticed it until now, but a manilla envelope was sitting under the blue of her bag. She grabbed at it, slid it out, and started reading down the list.

  • Wake all the sleeping team members using the manual wake up on their pods.

  • Dispense water to all the team members.

  • Get team members comfortable and feeling well.

  • Meet in the dining hall for further instructions.
Pretty straightforward it seemed for now. But, this was still her ship, and she was going to use her Captain status to help herself right now. Before she woke the others, she crossed the room to take a water bottle and down half of it right after she popped the little white pill in her mouth. After stopping to take a breath, she downed the second half. Her stomach gurgled and a wave of nausea rolled over her that passed as quickly as it came. She must not be used to having anything in there. After that, Mara went back to her locker and pulled out the jumper she had worn before sleep. She delayed waking the other employees until she had changed, and chugged another water bottle.

“And now the real fun starts.” She murmured to herself as she approached the pod that had been directly next to her. A small black screen on the pod came to life when she touched it, displaying the name of it’s inhabitant in it: Griffith Davies. She went into the options menu and selected the red option that read “COOLDOWN.” She hit it and the whirring noise started again, this time out of Griffith’s. It would take him a second to be able to get up, so she proceeded to the next pod that read: Rynn Tark. She completed the same set of directions for her, and for James, Billy, and Virginia. The cooldown took about 5 minutes, how long it would take them to wake up was another. She would go and wake them if they didn’t end up waking themselves. While she waited for her sleeping coworkers to rise, Mara collected the bottles and placed two of them on the floor beside each pod, so everyone would have water even if they couldn’t walk. She was still in pain, but the spark of excitement had been lit in her. All these people were here, ready to be met, all of them in space on a once in a lifetime mission. She sat on the bench next to the lockers and held her chin in her hand, her elbow rested on her knee. She could not wait to meet all these adventurers.

//Sorry this has taken so long but we are set to begin!

Rynn's pod popped open and the wave of warm air brushed over her, she laid in the pod still half asleep. Her body ached all over as if someone tossed her pod down a flight of stairs and she just ping ponged around in it. Rynn took in a deep breath and held it, this wasn't the first time she had done cryo sleep and no matter the advancements in technology for some reason scientist cannot find a way to solve cryo sickness. Nothing really helps cryo sickness but everyone has their own tricks that help somewhat, for Rynn it was taking in a large breath and holding it for as long as she could. Her lunges screamed for oxygen and she finally gave in and let out a loud exhale followed by several rapid breathes.

She couldn't believe she was actually here on this mission, she was young and so it surprised her that she was chosen for the mission at hand, she wanted to prove she was an asset to the team and could carry her own weight when she needed to. Slowly Rynn opened her eyes and the room revealed itself, she saw the other 5 pods with one opened, she looked over and saw the captain sitting on a bench by the lockers.

She leaned over the side of the pod so that her legs were still inside, she lifted her head some and saw the pills and water by the side of her pod she reached down instinctively with her right arm but that proved fruitless Right I took off my arm before cryo she thought to herself. She could only imagine what the captain just saw there, a half awake mechanic try to grab something with an imaginary arm then looking confused that the pills had not moved.

Groggily she raised her left arm and waved to the captain "Morning Captain, Rynn Tark reporting for duty" she slurred as she slowly slid out of the pod onto the floor. Rynn grabbed the pills and looked at the bottle trying to read "How many of these can I take?" she popped two in her mouth and swallowed. Gripping the side of her pod she slowly rose to her feet, her legs shaking some in the process. Trying to take some steps forward her body ultimately rejected that idea as she stumbled backwards towards her pod, Rynn caught herself and sat on the edge of the pod.

//I apologize if this isn't long enough, if it's not I can add more!

.. HssssssSS -

Rudely, consciousness yanked him back to the surface of his thick, muddy sleep.

It was as if he was snapping back into existence. Perhaps his soul had left his body in cryosleep. It was never, in any sense, a good feeling to be roused by when the world returned full impact to his bleary, half-comatose brain.

Every noise was so faint and blurry, it almost resembled hearing through water. He felt his heartbeat playing like a drum against his ribcage. Thu-thump .. thu-thump .. the beat was slow, but it was all he could hold onto to keep himself from falling asleep again. Numbness gripped every inch of him, but as it began to tingle away, he felt a slow pain build in his limbs. His muscles burned. Wo-rst p-art .. His thoughts were still developing again from the coma he’d just been, broken and slow in his head.

Griffith Davies, pilot of the currently auto-piloted vessel he and his crew resided in, would not be making such a quick recovery as his captain had. A full two minutes passed of complete, utter stillness and silence, besides his trembling, low breathing. His fingers twitched back to life, despite the pain in his joints. He moved his fingers, bending them slowly and carefully, before moving downwards to his wrists, then his arms .. until, finally, he was able to move his shoulders, and slowly stretch his neck. God, it fucking hurts.

From outside, the crew was greeted with his fingers creeping over the edge of his large pod. “ .. Oh .. “ He groaned from inside in a deep, scratchy tone. His fingers tensed as he held tight to the pod, and he slowly leaned himself upwards. The weight of his head was massive, and he nearly fell back over, but he adjusted in time to keep himself moving forwards instead of back. His eyesight came back slowly as he blinked his once sleep-frozen eyes back to the light. He had to squint as the tall man sat up very carefully, colors and shapes becoming objects and people that sharpened back into view.

Before the awoken members was a ruffled, gold-haired man with terrible scruff on his chin and very exhausted eyes. His arm trembled slightly with the exertion of holding himself, but it began to fade as he re-adjusted to being in his body again. His half-lidded eyes drifted everywhere, looking around himself at the world to reconnect with everything. It wasn’t long before he realized that this was the very ship he would be floating through the void for the next long while. His eyes drifted closed and he took a deep breath into his lungs, filling his large chest and holding it there before for a few seconds before exhaling deeply. Yes, he was planet-bound, on his way to a new location to see big, grand sights .. or so he hoped. If all of this cryosleep ended up not being worth it, he would be very disappointed.

Griffith eventually regained feeling everywhere, and he picked up his hurting legs to swing them one at a time over the edge of the pod. He moved steadily, cautious about straining himself. Just that move alone gave him a head rush, and he put a hand on his head and leaned forward, propping his forehead on his palm as he closed his eyes again. He sat that way for a good several seconds, recollecting himself. When his eyes opened, they flickered aside to spot two bottles of water sitting on the ground. He felt his fingers twitch, as if he wanted to grab one, but he didn’t move for a moment.

Then, after a delay, he slowly bent forward to reach down. He felt the strain in his back and his face became a grimace for a moment as he snatched up a bottle from the ground. He huffed in exertion as he leaned back up, and wasted no time in unscrewing the cap and putting the bottle to his lips. Without even a second to breathe between gulps, Griffith drank the entire bottle of water in about ten seconds, the plastic crumpling as it gave way to the suction. He pulled the bottle from his lips and huffed an exhale, taking another deep breath afterwards. The hydration was a godsend; he was beyond parched.

With his thirst more satisfied now, he leaned down and put the crumpled, empty bottle on the floor before picking up the other bottle. As he leaned up, Griffith looked about the room to examine who’d gotten up so far. It seemed as though both of his main work partners had roused already -- Rynn and Mara, the ship’s mechanic and captain respectively. Names had always been easy for him to remember, as he always sought out having identities for faces he saw. He liked knowing who he was talking to, and both of the ladies’ roles coincided with his own job: to operate the ship.

He didn’t let his gaze linger for too long on either of them, but he did offer the captain a quick salute with his free hand when he caught her eye. Seeing the mechanic’s missing arm tended to make him feel sad, so he avoided staring. He instead placed his forehead back onto his palm, unscrewing the cap of the second water bottle to prepare to drink it with a little less vigor. He took short sips this time, his stomach growling at suddenly having something inside of it again. Nausea began to dance in his torso, so he closed his eyes and held himself steady, taking his sweet time. The warmth of the room was a nice touch. Hopefully, it wouldn’t get too loud as everybody got back to their feet.

Groggy and Annoyed. Those were the only two feelings I could focus on as I woke up. I tried to look around but opening my eyes felt like lifting a car with only my eyelids. So I waited for what felt like an eternity before the act of opening my eyes didn't feel like such a chore and I was able to look around.

I was greeted with an empty room and 3 empty pods around me, and it took me a while to remember who and where I was. Billy McCloud. Doctor. Space. I told myself over and over again, like a mantra because I needed to remember. I moved my legs over the side of the pod and tried to stand up. Crap, my legs don't work. I thought as I fell to my hands and knees. Stupid I should've remembered that. I leaned against the pod and steadied myself to my feet and moved myself towards the closest wall.

While slowly moving myself towards the locker room I could feel some strength slowly returning to my legs, and tried to push myself off the wall to walk on my own. I was able to make it a few feet before having to use the wall to regain my balance again. Progress, I thought to myself, and I kept moving and kept pushing my legs to walk farther.

I eventually made my way to the locker room, by now able to almost hold myself up for a full minute. I make my way to my locker and open making notes of all the contents inside. A lab coat neatly folded, a change of clothes, a stethoscope, a water bottle, and the medical history of all the crew hidden away in the back. I change into actual clothes and make my way to the bridge ready face all the new challenges that await me.

Oh fun.

Awareness came slowly to James Kepler. He groaned and sat up slowly, keeping his head hunched near his stomach to make it easier for blood to flow to his brain. “Well, that makes seven,” he mutters to himself, counting the years he had spent inside various frozen tubes. Once he regained feeling in his limbs, he sat up straight and took in his surroundings. It seemed he was among the last to awaken.

He sees one of his crew mates still in his cryo-chamber, a man and a woman recovering near their respective pods, and another woman, presumably the captain, sitting on a bench and waiting to address the crew. The other must have already left the room. He didn’t remember their names, as he never found it worth the time to read the dossiers provided at the start of a mission.

He moved his gaze to a panel on the ceiling and sighed, mentally preparing himself for the “get to know the crew” event that always occurred at the start of a mission. Space had a tendency of attracting the oddballs of society, and while James knew he was no different, he grimaced when he recalled the teams he was stuck with on his previous excursions. He had no desire to waste his time surrounded by idiots. This time, however, he knew Venture had paid a fortune to get each one of this crew through the teleporter, so he had good reason to believe these people were actually professionals.

He remained seated in the pod for a few minutes, making slight movements in his arms and legs to loosen his muscles. Waking up from cryo-sleep was always an unpleasant experience, but it was one he was used to. Eventually he steps out of the tube, holding onto the rim to ensure he doesn’t fall, and grabs one of the water bottles that are always placed at the front of the pod. He takes a few sips, careful not to overload a stomach that hasn’t seen any action in a year.

Once he finished the first water bottle, he began putting one foot in front of the other, shifting his weight back and forth experimentally. After a few careful steps, he decided he was fit enough to walk and grabbed the second water bottle, making his way towards the exit. The captain looks up and tells him to meet in the dining area in half an hour, and he grunts an affirmative in response as he leaves the room. He needed to get to the terminal in his room, there was a lot to catch up on.

Consciousness slowly drifted back into my mind. First the beat of my heart. Then the rusty color from the light shining through my closed eye lids. I slowly tested the strength of my muscles. Disappointedly I realized that my body hadn’t handled my first time in cryosleep very well. No amount of training could prepare for the feeling of hopelessness that I felt when trying to use my hand to wipe the crust away from my eyes.

As I began to warm up things got easier. I was able to lift my head and survey the room. I was familiar with the pale lighting and monotonous grey walls that had surrounded me for much of the time I spent alone in my room. Finally, my eyes fell onto my locker and I felt a need to rush over and grab my data pad and holo glasses to check in on the company.

Hurriedly I tried to throw my legs over the side of the pod but much to my dismay that only resulted in me smacking my foot into the wall of the chamber. After what seemed like hours of slowly stretching out my limbs I was able to kick my legs over and sit on the side of the pod. There were two water bottles waiting at my feet. It seemed that even though I was the last to wake up nobody had forgotten about me.

I managed to hobble over to my locker and immediately grabbed my tablet with one hand while putting on my holo glasses with the other. The HUD quickly popped up and I was off for the races. I had one year worth of company records to check up on. Before this I needed a shower, my one year frozen had left a gross oily feeling on my skin and my hair was as dry as the deserts of mars.

As I began to walk to my room, I noticed someone had been standing in the door the whole time. It was my captain. After a sad attempt at a salute I asked for the directions to my room. In the spirit of Venture Industries I was first reminded that we had a meeting in the dining hall, and then on the directions of where to find my room. Efficiency first, comfort later the unofficial Venture motto. In this rare case my priorities were skewed toward my personal comfort. If I could spend a year in cryo for them they could wait 10 minutes for me to clean up in my room. Upon reaching this conclusion I stumbled down the seemingly endless grey corridor to my room.
