Izanagi Miyamoto

Appearance: The above picture does not feature her robotic arm, due to it being normally concealed by a skin-like covering.

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Weight: 122lbs

Height: 5'9"

Personality:

To an onlooker, or rather, to the general population of Academy City, Izanagi is known to be a rather cheerful, friendly girl, exuberating an atmosphere more befitting of an actor or musician rather than that of the third ranked Level Five of Academy City, this is an image that Izanagi herself actively propagates, often appearing at public events, demonstrations and commercials to improve her public relations, decidedly playing the role as one of the primary 'faces' of Academy City, leading to her being one of the more well-known Level Fives, despite not being of the highest rank for the most part however, this merely plays the role her public face, ensuring that she have an easier time in her life in Academy City, alongside fanning the flames of her ego with the winds that her fans and admirers produce in abundance enough to put even the most famous to shame.

Behind this however, lays an unhelpful, selfish nature, often surfacing around anyone whom she interacts with for more than a passing moment as the kind of person who does nothing for free, unless it carries some other form of benefit, such as power or influence. She carries an uncaring and untrusting atmosphere, not involving herself in affairs that she believes to either be unnecessary, or an active waste of her time and effort, not to say that she is against people who do partake in such activities, rather, she carries some level of gratitude towards them for handling a job that otherwise may fall onto her shoulders, though this is mostly on a superficial level, and in most cases she would not do anything to express this gratitude, even if the person in question carried out said task specifically to prevent her from having to do it.

As the third ranked Esper in Academy City she holds a large degree of confidence in herself, displaying an unflinching sense of superiority among all but her fellow Level Fives, essentially treating anyone below Level 4, with some exceptions, as not even worth being spending her time speaking to, often outright ignoring them unless they persist on interacting with her to a near obsessive degree, or if they offer her something in compensation for potentially wasting her time, which can be anything as simple as paying for her lunch, or as over the top as giving her all the money in their wallet, depending on her mood and opinion of the person. Not to say that she won't do anything without cost, as she is willing to give out 'freebies' either in the form of actions or items to the people she is fond of, and is not the kind of person to allow one of her friends to be abused or mocked lying down, despite her outwardly uncaring nature, she seemingly has a soft spot for the bullied and victimized, often stepping in and inflicting her wrath upon the perpetrators should she witness such events or going-ons.

Among her friends she makes no efforts to maintain her facade, being sarcastic, rude, stubborn and somewhat of a control-freak. Because of this, she doesn't exactly have a lot of friends, normally driving them off, regardless of if she intends to or not, when they witness the extreme contrast between the personality she pushes as her public image, and the one she carries in her day-to-day life, the few friends she does have are generally the most tolerant of people, willing to listen to her complaints and deal with her extremely uncharitable nature. Because of the amount of people she tends to drive off Izanagi grows rather attached to the ones who stick around, though she'd never express this directly, she tends to do so in the form of small anonymous gifts and aid, and, when confronted about it passing it off as "Just returning the favor"

Esper Power and Level:

Constant, Level 5

Izanagi's ability is a unique one, unlike other Espers, who commonly control or bypass some pre-existing force or phenomena in the world hers is one seemingly exclusive to her, the creation and manipulation of a material unique to her powers that she refers to as 'Constant'. Physically, Constant takes on several odd properties, the first and most noticeable of which being it's clean, glossy white appearance, consistent across the entire surface of the material, it should also be noted that, much like the other properties of the Constant, this is seemingly unchanging, as even when exposed to something that would normally change the surface tone or color of the object it maintains it's clean white coloration, in addition to this, the shape of any single Constant is restricted to some form of cuboid, such as a rectangle or cube, though they can be pieced together to create other shapes. This even extended to some seemingly physics defying lengths, with it's appearance and coloration always being completely visible, even in total darkness when it would normally be hidden by the lack of light. Generally the accepted reason for this phenomenon is that the Constant gives off some form of self contained light, not breaching it's own boundaries, thus it's lack of illuminative properties on the environment, but explaining their always-visible nature, though this theory does not explain how the Constant would restrict the flow of light, and has thus far not been proven.

Aside from the aesthetic properties of Constant it's physical traits share many similarities, namely the unchanging nature of it's coloration also carrying over to it's physical form, namely, it is extremely durable, and generally acceptable to be unbreakable, or, at least unbreakable by any available or currently tested means, being able to handle the impact of every form of force it has encountered so far, including Esper abilities. This is due to the primary property, and the namesake of Constant, that being the fact that it's main properties, specifically shape and size are determined by Izanagi on creation, and as supposedly unchangeable by any means, including outside forces and energies, leading to it's previously mentioned indestructibility. The trajectory and velocity of a Constant is also determined by Izanagi, and like it's physical properties, are also unchangeable by outside forces once they are determined, though, unlike the shape and size of the Constant, this can be changed by Izanagi after generation. This leads to Constant serving as a indestructible object, unmovable by anyone other than Izanagi herself. Also, bizarrely her Constants also seem to resist mental based Esper abilities, alongside physical and elemental based ones, acting as a barrier in the same manner a wall would block a bullet, though, this can be easily bypassed by attacking from an angle where from which there is not a Constant in-between Izanagi and the Esper in question.

The process of the creation of a Constant is split into multiple steps, the first of which being the generation of the material, seemingly being formed via some variation of reality manipulation, with Izanagi herself referring to the material as 'The solidification of reality itself", though, much like multiple other features of her abilities this is only a theory, with the unchangeable nature of Constant preventing any major analysis of it's scientific properties. Secondly comes the formation of the Constant, with Izanagi determining the shape and size of the individual Constant and forcing the still manifesting material to form into that shape, soon after forming the final result into our reality, this process can take anywhere between 0.02 to 2.19 seconds, depending on the size of the Constant. After formation Izanagi is able to telepathically determine the trajectory and speed of her Constants, unaffected by friction, barriers, turbulence and acceleration, this is thought to be some form of specialized telekinesis, limited to controlling her Constants and not the environment around her. Also interestingly she only seems to be able to move her constants in straight lines, making Izanagi unable to have them take a route involving curves or diagonals.

As a secondary function of her power, Izanagi seems to have some form of situationally enhanced calculative abilities, though it is debatable whether this should be recognized as part of her Esper abilities, or as something simply related to her mental state, namely, her calculative abilities seem and fall to rise with the amount of Constants she has under her control, allowing her to effectively control her abilities no matter how many Constants she must maintain at any given point in time. This is considered situational as it does not seem to effect her capabilities in these fields during any task other than the control of her Constants, with her mathematical skills in regular schooling and life being completely regular, rather than on the level of somebody capable of performing calculation on the level she has clearly shown herself to be capable of.

Drawbacks:

Her creation of Constants however is not without limit. She is unable to produce an amount of Constants breaching 227.92 square meters in size, though this does fluctuate depending on her emotional state, with positive emotions, such as happiness and contentedness raising the limit, with a maximum of 248.02, and negative emotions, such as anger and sadness, lowering it, with a minimum of 197.51. In addition to this, Izanagi's greatest limitation in the use of her powers is that she must maintain focus on her Constants at all times to have them maintain their shape and solidity, if she is distracted or intentionally shifts her attention away from her Constants they will rapidly dissolve, this does not force her to delay the recreation of her Constants, but presents the rather large vulnerability of a well timed interruption, either via physical force or mental attack, could remove all her currently created Constants from existence, erasing both her defensive and attacking capabilities for the moment.

Biography:

"Nothing is free. You'd best learn that before it bites you in the ass."

Sent to Academy City when she was naught but a child Izanagi has few memories of her parents, apparently a quiet old couple, not believing themselves to be capable of raising Izanagi when she began to display the properties of an Esper six years after birth, instead electing to send to live out her life in Academy City with nothing but a name and destination, fully intending to never meet their child again. She was sent to live with her cousin, Emiko, a Level Three Esper taking residence in Academy City, who, despite only being of at the age of thirteen herself, took her in with open arms, being glad to take her young relative into her care.

Living with her was wondrous for Izanagi, and the two quickly developed a steadfast bond, one strong enough to where, to any onlooker the two would appear close enough to be sisters, not just a pair of girls who happened to share a grandparent or two. Eventually Emiko began to show an interest in being able to better protect her new-found 'sibling', taking up a job in Judgement to increase her capabilities, and while this began to nurture Emiko's capabilities, it also left Izanagi, who was still only at the age of six, and learning the capabilities of her powers, alone a great deal of the time, causing her to grow somewhat resentful of Judgement for stealing her 'big-sister' away from her. Emiko however, found herself enjoying her new duties, and even spent what would normally be her free time attending to them, patrolling the streets of Academy City and hanging out with her workmates, leaving Izanagi alone of her own volition.

Two years slowly rolled past like this, Izanagi quickly making her way through preschool, developing her powers, and Emiko starting High-School, still ranked as a Level 3, and still actively spending her time on her duties in Judgement, leaving her ignorant of Izanagi's quickly growing talent as an Esper, while her own unmoving ranking began to nurture feelings of frustration and anger inside her, slowly growing to resent the higher ranked Espers in Academy City. She began to take this out on Izanagi, who, after her first System Scan was ranked as a Level 3, sitting at a higher position than her cousin at the young age of 10, who had spent her entire life trying to nurture her own abilities, only to be matched by her seven-year old relative, who'd learned of her abilities as an Esper two years ago, and had already caught up to her.

Things carried on like this for another two years, Emiko being unable to be rid of the ten-year old Izanagi, and Izanagi unable to do anything to repair the relationship between her and what the girl who was essentially been her sister, who now outright avoided her, working as much as she could and leaving only the bare minimums in food and money to Izanagi, even cutting into money that would normally be hers, spending it on her own pursuits of power rather than leaving it to Izanagi herself, telling her that the reasons behind both the decrease in commodities and her increase in work was a decreased allowance. This eventually led to Izanagi actively roaming the streets, seeking some way to alleviate her loneliness, but being uninterested in both the children her age, the most of which were at most Level Ones or Twos, and unable to socialize the those of a higher level, due to their greater age and maturity. One day, in her roaming, which had now become routine to her, she found herself lost within District 15, unable to find her way home and still roaming the streets as the dark veil of night fell over the city she, still being a a young child, thought herself done for, simply finding a place within the District where she could curl up and wait out the night. However, fortune seemed to be on her side that night, as while she lay in fear, surrounded by walls produced by her powers to isolate her from dangers of the night a man stumbled upon her, and offered to have her stay with him for the night, promising to help her find her home tomorrow.

Finding themselves back at his homestead Izanagi was astonished by the lavishness of the place, taken aback by the drastic difference between it and the small apartment she shared with Emiko. Soon after entering he introduced himself as Kaishou Miyamoto, presenting an offer to her, apparently interested by her powers, namely curious as to the dark-defying properties of her Constants, which at the time were still fairly underdeveloped, at least in comparison to their current state, and wanting to study her powers, proposing his assistance in developing them in exchange for her permission for him to research her abilities, she agreed on one condition, that Kaishou provide the money that she and Emiko lacked, confident that it would patch up the relationship between the two, and provide the time for them to spend together like they had in her first few months of living with Emiko. It, unfortunately, did not.

Coming home, ecstatic about her achievement Izanagi told Emiko as soon as she could, sure that she would return her happiness, but instead being greeted by silence, quickly followed by anger, her actions only reinforcing Emiko's envy of Izanagi, outraged that a ten year old was considered good enough to be the subject of paid research, while she still spent all her time studying and working, and went unrecognized for her efforts. After this things at home became tense, Izanagi, at last knowing the true reasons behind her and Emiko's worsening relationship decided to decline Kaishou's offer in an effort to calm Emiko, only ending in her viewing it a Izanagi pitying her out of a sense of superiority, worsening the relationship between the two, and over the following months plunging it to the point where Emiko wouldn't even cook for Izanagi, at most leaving a cheap, pre-cooked meal for the girl to heat-up in her absence. Eventually, this pushed Izanagi, who, mind you, at the time was a rather forgiving girl, to her limit, and she confronted Emiko, resulting in an explosive argument between the two, leading to Izanagi, finally being pushed over the edge fleeing their home, going wherever her feet took her, and ending up on Kaishou's doorstep. Venting her problems to the man he made her a new offer, the same as the last, with the addition of a new home, specifically he would take her in, adopting her even, at first Izanagi was hesitant, but on return Emiko wouldn't do as much as open the door for her, as days of this went by, Izanagi caved in and accepted, and, only a few months later the deed was one, Izanagi officially taking the name she uses today, Izanagi Miyamoto.

The following years were what molded her into the person she is today. Her trust shaken by her experiences with her cousin, she began to work as making sure such a thing would never happen again, avoiding getting close to people, and looking out for herself, rather than relying on and trusting others as she had with Emiko, she also took on traits from Kaishou, namely his rule of exchange, not giving away anything for free, and not feeling an obligation to someone just because they were stupid enough to do the same for her. In this time, Kaishou, keeping to his promise studied, and aided her in the development of her ability, teaching her greater control of it's functions, among other things, raising her to be the girl she is today, both in terms of power and personality. After six years of this, during which Kaishou had utilized his connections to allow Izanagi to avoid the routine System Scans, in hopes of a grand reveal of her progress, as, in the first time is six years she attended one, and left as the latest addition to the Level Fives of Academy City. Success. After six years she'd succeeded, and the once, kind and giving girl that Izanagi was made a mistake, she allowed her success to go to her head, believing that she could do better she began to seek out the one ranked above her, confident that she'd be able to knock him down and take his rank as the second, and then proceed to do the same with the first, she was so sure of it that as soon as she found him she attacked him on the spot, entrapping him within her Constants, and, approaching his cage she approached him. Then something unexpected happened. With a touch to the walls of his prison it began to flicker and waver, quickly exploding into nothingness. Izanagi was shocked, nobody had been able to remove her Constants before, and he'd done it in a matter of moments, brushing it off as if it were a task as simple to him as breathing, and, soon after, he turned his attention to her, tormenting her and her attempts to defeat him, taking her arm in the process, forcing her after hours of struggling against him to flee, instilling a fear, and hatred of the boy into Izanagi.

Barely escaping she soon found herself stumbling through the doors of a hospital, half believing herself to be done for as blood gushed forth from her arm, spilling across the clean white flooring of the reception floor, collapsing into it as the nurse manning the desk noticed her, blacking out from the loss of blood, her thoughts on her failure until the moment she hit the ground. It was days before she awoke, being greeted by the smiling faces of nurses and doctors as she swum back to consciousness, apparently only having barely survived the ordeal, it being a miracle that she had made it to the hospital in time, with only a few moments to spare before she lost a fatal amount of blood. Despite her miraculous recovery her arm was still lost, and even upon investigation of the site of the battle it was nowhere to be found, destroyed in it's entirety, though things weren't completely without hope, the doctors offering to have her undergo what would usually be a rather expensive operation to replace her lost arm with one of iron and steel, for a drastically reduced price, apparently out of respect for Kaishou, who due to his achievements in raising a Level 5, had become a rather well know scientist in a short amount of time. After some deliberation Izanagi accepted, paying the reduced fee and submitting herself to the operation that would bind her flesh with metal, her new limb serving as both a more than adequate replacement, and a consistent reminder of her failure to defeat the Second Ranked.

Writing Sample:

Seventh Mist. A rather large crowd had congregated, waiting patiently on the rooftop, all drawn in by posters and fliers that scattered the mall, emblazoned in brightly colored designs and emboldened texts, inviting, nay, demanding that any and all who should so happen to see it make their way to the roof of the building, promising a sight to behold, the one of the many public appearance of the newest Level Five in Academy City, who, despite only having been recently evaluated, already stood as the third strongest in the city, or at least that was what the rumors that many a person who attended the mall had heard told. Naturally people had flocked, what kind of person wouldn't have after all? It was a chance to witness just what a Level Five could do, not to mention that the particular Level Five in question had a fantastic reputation around the city, often putting on events like this and appearing in commercials, turning her into somewhat of a minor celebrity around the city. And what kind of average, everyday person passes up the chance to see a celebrity live and in the flesh?

Naught but a few moments later the show had begun, a brown haired girl who looked to be in her teens stepping out onto the stage, waving to the crowd, her face painted with a smile so bright that would put the the Sun itself to shame, calling out her thanks an appreciation to those who had decided to attend, before requesting silence from the crowd, a hush quickly falling over them as they anticipated the coming performance. Up on the stage, the girl's smile shifted to a smirk. They never expected what came next. Suddenly, from some unseen angle the sounds of gunfire rang out, bullets whistling towards the girl onstage, the crowd, caught unawares by the sudden turn of events flew into a panic, expecting her to collapse into a bloody heap at a moments notice, but, she just stood there undeterred, a brilliantly white barrier forming between her and the source of the bullets, flickering out of existence as quickly as it had appeared. The crowd quickly flew into an uproar, cheering as the display went on, bullets and other projectiles throwing themselves towards her from all angles imaginable, with her remaining on the spot, unflinchingly blocking all that came her way, not a single scratch laying on her, the organizers even have the bright idea to shoot an RPG at her, and, just as she had with the other attacks, she blocked it effortlessly, even using her powers to funnel the flames of the explosion upwards in a magnificent display of fire and smoke, sending her audience into an even greater display of excitement than they already showed. Repeating the trick a few times she drew the show to a close, once again thanking the audience for their coming, and making her way backstage, the sound of cheering evident until she made her way off out of the building, slipping into a old-fashion styled car, the voices of the outside beginning muffed by the cold steel of the door as it slammed shut behind her and rolled off down the street.

She may as well have become a different person the moment the car began to move.

Letting out a sigh of exasperation she sunk in exhaustion into her seat, not from the display of her powers, but rather from having to put up that act for so long. Seriously, if she ever had to smile that much again her face was going to come off. "Eh. Long show Izanagi?" A voice rang out from the front, sounding more like the beginning of an exchange between a celebrity and their agent, rather than a conversation between a father and his daughter, "Ugh, you know it. Really, why did I think it was a good idea to agree to such a long performance? I don't even like doing the short ones!" She replied, complaining openly about what, only a few moments ago, anyone would think she enjoyed like it was her reason for living, "And the crowd! Do you have any idea how loud they were? I think I've gone half deaf because of them! I mean, I like being cheered for as much as the next girl, but hell, they could at least be a little quieter about it you know Kaishou?" Continuing to vent her complaints, the man driving the car staying quiet, knowing full well that attempting to speak to her when she was like this was more than a waste of his efforts, waiting for her to finish her rant before he reminded her of what he was sure would only worsen things. "Uh, you know you booked another show in an hour at Coral Street right?" He said, silently slipping a pair of earphones in to prepare for the barrage of words that was sure to follow.

Her screams of frustration could even be heard through the steel walls of the car only a few moments later.

Personality

I think the best thing about this was the Personality. While the Biography and Power were well thought out, and written in amazing detail that flowed well together, the Personality was what got me hooked onto the character. You start off first with discussing how she does things for publicity and give a great, brief portion on the "Public" personality, just enough to get a good image of this cheerful and kind level five, and then you go on to discuss just how much of this personality is contradicted by her inner thoughts on things. You were good on dividing out your personality, and I did see a very appreciative lack of repeating descriptions. Yet, in all of this sour disposition, you were also able to give a very realistic set of positives that really bring out the human that you were attempting to create.

Power

The power, I had to read one or twice to completely understand, I won't lie. However, that is not because of you, but simply because I sometimes misread things and had to read over what you were saying. That being said, once I fully understood, I was amazed at how detailed you were able to make your power, the limitations and the drawbacks, and still able to be written in simple and understandable ways. I was thinking that the power was a bit overpowered before I read the Drawbacks, and then it all finally made more sense and I enjoyed it, especially how particular you were with the range of the power, now that was a nice touch.

Biography

In the Personality section, I think I mentioned it, but this was a very well thought out background. I'm not the most familiar with either Railgun or Magical Index, but the Biography was built in such a way that I did not need to know and you were able to accurately regale me with a story of a young child who slowly, but surely became who she was in your Personality section. That may be why I like this background so much, because of just how accurately and seamlessly it ties in with your character's current personality. I had fun reading it, and that is just another reason I think it was well made.

Writing Sample

The Writing Sample was where all of the three subjects above came into being together, twisting to form an awesome description that set the scene was ease. Very entertaining, I think my two favorite parts was, first, when her power was first revealed, your way of describing what happened getting me very hooked onto the Sample, and later, the conversation with her "father", which not only intrigued me with their interaction, but was also made enjoyable with how Izanagi shifted from happy go lucky to complaining and irritable. Great read.

Overall

I think that, overall, this was a really well made Character Sheet. Attention to detail in all the right corners, and a lack of it where it wasn't needed, the entire thing was balanced and I really like that. I hope you had a great time making this Character, because I had an awesome time reading it, so I am glad you took the time to write this up. I wish you the best of luck in your future CS builds! Question, how old is this character? Is it recent, or have you had it for a while, working on it every once and a while?

Wow, uh, Thanks! For how old the character is... I think it;s about a month old now? I spent around a week, working on it 2-3 hours a day on it I think.
