World History

Year 1- The Union- The Seven tribes of the western crags unite forming the Nation of Seven Peoples.

Year 6- Sun fall- The Sun Goddess descends upon the nation of seven peoples and not only devastates the local area but kills nearly a fourth of the population dwelling there. The combined efforts of the nations greatest warriors and commanders brings the goddess down and she is imprisoned.

Year 17- The Adjacent war- Eleven years of thriving resulted in the kingdom of seven peoples being hated by most of their neighbors who struggled to compete with the growing nation in spite of their much larger population. Armies are mustered of such magnitude that they rival the population of the nation. The first five golden knights are created and proceed to end the war by slaying over 10,000 men in only a single week. After this the nation of seven peoples is called Iridia after the goddess they captured.

Year 54- Golden Culling- Two of the first five golden knights begin to bicker amongst themselves and lines begin to be drawn in the sand. There are only about 44 golden knights total but the divide seems to grow and spread until a near even split occurs. Rather than face the prospect of a civil war in their faction Obhad and Adon team up and manage to slay the other two of the First five in a surprise attack. Despite their intentions the allies of the fallen First five turn on them and the duo slays another 19 of their brethren. The kingdom shudders at the loss of so much of their military might. After this the Golden knights would meet with military leaders and the king to form the Doctrine of the Golden Knights in order to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again.

Year 79- And there two- Bendis of the First five golden knights, now known as the Big three, takes his own life after realizing that his dreams of a peaceful life as a father and husband would not be met and instead the hell of being a warrior would be his lot in life possibly for eternity. All 77 of the Golden knights attend the funeral and the realization that they would need mental support was made apparent to the entire nation. After this point golden knights would be revered as heroes as their actual sacrifice became known. The last two of the original golden knights, Obhad & Adon promise one another that neither will fall until their needed no more.

Year 113- The Rage of the Earth- A humongous volcano in the south blows up resulting in the utter destruction of the nation of Pleatt, one of the enemies during the Adjacent war. The Queen of iridia at the time Queen Xaldia Opened the gates to the hundreds of thousands of refugees and ordered the golden knights who now numbered at nearly a hundred to facilitate these refugees placement. Under the direction of Obhad and under threat from Adon the refugees form dozens of small town around the capital city.

Year 157- The war of Hate- forty four years the refugee towns grew, several absorbing one another and becoming small cities, however the throne changed when Queen Xaldia perished and her son Rondor hated the Pleatt people. A sharp increase in taxes and an oppressive legal system lead to several riots which the cruel king rondor crushed with extreme brutality using the weight of both the military and the golden knights. Obhad returned from a pilgrimage where he sought to find the last of the Nireenian nomads and bring them home only to find fires and rivers of blood circling the kingdom. after being told of the situation by one of his knights he made a furious beeline for the throne and took the kings head, decreeing that the golden knight would not serve the throne but would serve the people itself. The knights under his orders would put an end to the conflict by eliminating commanders loyal to the king. Afterwards Obhad would work closely with the army, navy, and mage corps to create rules of engagement and training regiments that would prevent troops from panicking and committing atrocities.

Year 189- The long sea war- A strange boat lands at the capital city apparently hailing from a nation called Dizraiah. Boasting strange technology such as worked metals and Crossbows, Ballista, And catapults, when iridia was still using simple bronze blades and bows. the boat stayed for a week then returned home and after three months a fleet would arrive. The navy was hard pressed to deal with this superior force, and the Golden knights were occupied with smashing any attempt to disgorge troops on the coast. This war would last 26 years and only ended due to a covert mission Where the Ancient Golden knight Adon lead a small unit back to the nation of Dizraiah. Little is spoken of what occurred across the sea, only Adon returned and afterwards the ships stopped coming. Dizraiah has not once returned.

Year 234- The Giants march- after nearly sixty years of peace and prosperity the nation was shook by the utter destruction of three border towns with no bodies of either citizen or livestock being found. A brief investigation reveals that hundreds of giants had begun to gather in the woods at the edge of iridian territory. The entirety of the golden knights are dispatched to face these monsters down and they find the citizens being held for food. Despite their successful infiltration of the giants camp the ancient knight Adon leads an unplanned charge that successfully catches the giants off guard and leaves them slain to the last, but hundreds of citizens are killed by the giants panicked running. This results in a growing rift between Obhad and Adon not to mention the reputation of the golden knights being tarnished.

Year 277- Clash of the Ancients- Continued irresponsible behavior from Adon leads to Obhad and Adon becoming bitter enemies. Any position obhad held would he opposed by Adon even if it benefited the kingdom. Yet The constant charismatic appeal of Obhad seemed to be able to overcome the petulant arguments of Adon. Eventually the two come to near blows over the decision of wether or not to draft people into the golden knights in times of conflict. They decided to squash their beef over a duel where the two fought in the same battlefield they had slain the giants in. While none were there to witness the battle, many assumptions about the outcome exist. Regardless The two returned with more respect for one another, adon ceased his dissent, and Obhad seemed to relax a bit and let Adon alone. While they arent seem with one another as often as before at the very least they no longer seem to hate one another.

Year 312- Beginning of Peace- After the clash of Adon and Obhad the golden knights felt true unity for the first time in ages. Rebellions were crushed, Bands of Outlaws were destroyed, and even the great beasts of the wilds were culled. Iridia knew growth and development like never before. The northern nation of Jakko, the Second enemy of Iridia during the adjacent war set up a peace treaty and a bond of marriage that united the royal families and has Jakko absorbed into Iridia. Likewise around a half dozen smaller nations along the border were eager to join the mighty and flourishing empire as they had been ravaged by the giant march nearly a century ago. The nation of Iridia more than tripled in size and engulfed nearly half the continent before the diplomatic expansion which spanned three kings reigns ended, due to the remaining territory of the continent being mostly unexplored wilderness.

Year 384 The Great Pioneer age- After the peaceful spread of iridian culture through the civilized world which grew along the western half of the continent ended a new era of rugged expansion into the great wilderness occured. Many adventurers would journey eastward into dangerous woods and swamps seeking places they could lay down the roots of a town and continue the expansion. This era of pioneering would last for nearly three centuries and many towns and adventurers would be lost, even golden knights, never to be found again.

Year- 437- The Great Godbeast- The eastward expansion of the pilgrims uncovered something massive in a cave to the north of the town of Krastor. This huge furry mammoth like creature was studied by the mage corps at first until they accidentally woke it up. The four hundred meter ancient monster rampaged for nearly three dozen miles flattening three settlements, felling seven golden knights, bulldozing through an army, and even swatting the ancient Adon out of the air and stomping on him knocking the Amcoemt golden knight unconscious. Finally the beasts rampage was ended when the collective mage corps funneled the magic of thousands into a sleeping spell that put the beast to sleep for what they claimed would be countless centuries. Just in case, five forts with walls connecting them were built around the beast. Even as dirt and plants have covered this monster in a hill these five forts and their wall stand now known as the Pentavault.

Year 496- The cults of the divine- the ramifications of Iridias massive expansion eastward begin to be felt. Absorbing so many cultures was bound to have problems. Mainly the worship of gods seemed to be the issue as many churches began to view the iridian culture and history as blasphemous after all they were born as a nation against the will of the gods and had even felled one goddess. Eventually these extreme views led to extreme actions and terrorist attacks began to occur, followed by retaliation on the churches from citizens and the crown. Tension continued to grow for decades more yet the expansion continued.

Year 511- The Iridian Civil war- Clashes between the churches and crown continued until all churches were deemed criminal. Countless towns and even several large cities branched off and began to seceded from Iridia as a whole. The golden knights abstained from the conflict on either side and instead continued to expand eastward in the naive hope that more resources would release pressure. Sadly this was not the case, their expansion uncovered a second Massive beast of nearly equal proportion to the first but this one was scaled. Luckily with Adon and Obhad there together along with several Golden knight elites the beast was quelled before it could go too far, but a Military camp from the devout seperatists was crushed as the beast fell, which was propagandized as an attack from the iridian capital. The nation would be torn in half by a brutal war in which Hundreds of thousands would fight, and over a million would die as a result. Infuriated by Obhads decision to stay out of it, Adon begins to hate the leader of the golden knights.

Year 554- The BlackStar of Peace- 43 years of conflict leave both factions within Iridia exhausted and worn ragged. Those fleeing war have spread to the towns formed by the golden knights continued though admitted slow eastward expansion. While all seek a reason to make peace the Devout seperatists need a wag to cool the zeal of their people. A Shooting star drops a black looking meteor a few hundred miles past the eastern most settlement and it is propagandized as a message from the gods a warning shot from a divine figure enraged by the constant violence and bloodshed. Peace is made and the nation of Iridia goes into a much needed period of peace and repair.

Year 591- The Dead March- For nearly forty years peace reigns. Pioneers and adventurers continue eastward but now they seek not only to expand but many seek to find the black star and become wealthy beyond belief with it. Many vanish over the decades but eventually a young golden knight finds it and reports it to his master. The two return to retrieve it only to find it missing. As it turned out a nearby town had learned from a boy who followed the first golden knight and saw what he had. The townsfolk went to retrieve the stone and the young knight was branded a liar. A few months later the crown grows worried as over a dozen border villages have ceases their tithes and any sent to deliver messages do not return. Golden knights are dispatched to check and a nightmare is uncovered. The towns and their citizens are dead, yet their dead walked and stumbled about seeking foes to swarm. The golden knights attempt to purge this evil but with their numbers the undead swarm and consume most, only two of the nearly dozen sent return. Thus began the long and horrendous Black War.

Year 606- The End of the black war- The black war was one of the most trying times in Iridia. Still recovering from the war nearly sixty years ago the armies were undermanned. Fallen golden knights retained their power and became terrors on the battlefield. The seventeen years long conflict cause the most deaths of golden knights of any in history leaving a little more than half still standing, and half of them were wounded. The end did not seem to bring much relief either as the tension between Adon and Obhad boiled over due to Adons brutal tactics and scorched earth defense strategy. The two would clash for a second time but this battle was witnessed by many. They tore apart the battle camp, carved a swath of destruction through a nearby forest and caused a landslide before the battle ended and Adon emerged Victorious. Obhad was not killed but was rendered unconscious. However his last words reminding adon of their fallen brethren cut to the soul of Adon and he would afterwards agree to his oldest friends punishment terms and would spend the rest of his life beyond the borders of Iridia moving as it grows and forever paving the way forward.

Year 657- The Golden Banquet- After so many losses to the war, and the kingdoms massive size seemingly stabilizing as expansion stopped a need for golden knights was dire. Thus a massive nationwide celebration occurred for over three years. This celebration would host many games and competitions meant to test a warriors aptitude for joining the golden knights. While their numbers were successfully replenished and even swelled after this, many died for this sacrifice as over 75% of the candidates did not survive the transformation process. Due to this every year a three day feast called the golden banquet is held in the capital and golden knights come in from all over to attend, eat, and leave.

Year 681- The Frostborn Knight- The Year where one of the top five golden knights was inducted. Hyde Shendoa Became a golden knight to match and surpass his successor and the third even golden knight from a noble family. A few years later his frost based power would prove instrumental in quelling the second eruption of the volcano that destroyed the nation of Pleatt about 500 years ago.

Year 715- The Gold clad Golden Knight- Apollo Kingstriker joins the golden knights and takes the place of one of the Veterans of the Golden Culling. Much to everyone’s surprise, Apollo actually manages to catch up to his successors capabilities in just under his second decade as a golden knight.

Year 764- The Great awakening- The god beast at the pentavault, the one felled by the elite knights, and Two more rise from the continent. Forces prepare for the worst but surprisingly the beasts wander into the ocean and are never seen again.

Year 801- The Dead return- the Black war despite ending nearly 200 years ago was not yet won. The meteor which caused it was never recovered. Eventually a criminal necromancer finds it and uses it to enact his plan. Spores are planted and the World is none the wiser. fourteen years later the spores rupture and several towns fall overnight. Luckily the golden knights are dispatched surround all of the towns and begin to launch rescue and purge operations. The meteor is recovered and subsequently destroyed.

Year 877- The dragons fury- A powerful ancient dragon awakens From the volcano that destroyed Pleatt and demands a sacrifice to it from the bloodline of the pleatt wizard who sealed the beast ages ago during the first eruption. The King consults Obhad who offers a plan to slay the dragon. He would take his two elites to handle the beast, if they fell the rest of the golden knights would unite with the Army, Navy, and Mage corps to bring the beast down. Apollo, Hyde, And Obhad go to meet the dragon and engage in a three day long grueling battle before finally slaying the beast along the shoreline.

Year 901- The nation of Zalghem- Finally Settlers reach the eastern shore of the continent and find an outpost from a strange nation of large eyed small grey people. They claim to be from across the sea in a nation of Zalghem. Peace is made with this outpost and a tentative agreement between the two nations bars the allowance of military power in the outpost. As such no golden knights are allowed in.

Year 959- The Fall of Korlia- a town called korlia is besieged by fire elementals due to a spell gone wrong. Worse still the mage corps members who died to the elementals just made the problem worse. The golden knight stationed there was Apollo kingstriker, yet he merely took the Flameborn Shendoa noble and Fled letting the town burn and starting a kind of distrust of the golden knights to grow in the population.

Year 998- The reign of King Borgio- after the death of the good king Amond, his eldest son Borgio took the throne and Almost immediately things began to go downhill. He increased tax rates despite his fathers tax system actually working to fund the coffers. He went on to party and generally live a lavish life. While big cities and certainly the capital were mostly unaffected the small towns and border settlements were put under serious strain. To make matters worse his lack of enforcement of any real authority allowed for growing bandits, and even the spreading of plagues.

Year 1007- The Sangan massacre- A small town called Sangan was being plagued by bandits and the Military was dispatched to deal with it, after all it was hardly a golden knights issue. Unfortunately they found the entire town ransacked and killed to the last. It was understandable that the general was infuriated and ordered a brutal retaliation strike. Sadly the bandits used mostly young child soldiers stolen from nearby towns, a fact not revealed until after so much blood had been spilt. Many soldiers retired after this and it is listed as one of the worst criminal cases in the nations history.

Year 1014- The blights begin- Poor conditions generated by the greedy king seem to reach a boiling point as many villages begin to be stricken with plague. Dissent grows and cries for the death of king borgio ring out across the nation.

Year 1017- The present day- King Borgio is found dead, Blights have reached a dangerous level, bandit clans have sprung up like spring flowers through snow. The nation seems in shambles. Meanwhile the nobles, and golden knights roam the capital. Every citizen can feel the impending change in the pit of their stomachs. But is it a change for the better?

Figures of myth and legend

The godbeasts- Massive Immortal titans who cannot seem to stay dead for long. These creatures check basically every box of weird. The gods in the ancient days claimed the beasts predate them. But iridian mage corps scholars have noted these creatures seem to possess numerous signs of being magically created creatures, each one Eons old and possessing the genetic code for every lifeform on the planet…barring The mortal races.

The Doorman- A strange metaphysical entity rumored to exist and with sightings all across the continent going back to the days of the seven tribes. According to folklore it is not a god and may well not be from this universe. It is also said that if you encounter the doorman you can pay him to use his “doors” to travel anywhere…literally anywhere.

The Spirit of the eastern wood- a large forest to the far east is apparently haunted by the ghost of a woman. Little is known as any who venture into the woods never return, even golden knights have vanished here.

Mount Pyre- a massive mountain located in the dead center of the continent. Said to have once been the seat of the gods it is now a volcanic hellscape said to still possess the ruins of the divine palace, yet it is also said this palace is guarded by mighty demons and dark spirits of unknown power and origin.

Nerkull the death god- while many different gods exist and many seem to overlap and step on one another’s toes Only one is mentioned in All cultures across the main continent of Iridia and even known by the nations that have been hinted at across the oceans. Nerkull the god of death arrives in nearly every mythology and strangely no other names for a death god have ever been recorded.

Castus the War god- multiple cultures have different names for their war god, but on the continent of iridia most know it as Castus. This wargod is rumored to appear on the field of any notable battle and will take no side and instead equally attack all things in his view. Due to the gods seeming obsession with conflict, strife, and battle he will almost alway drastically limit his power in combat leading many to believe the War god to be the weakest due to him literally always falling in battle when he shows up to the scene. In reality Castus simply enjoys ALL aspects of war including the warriors death.

Bokin the Sea god- a deity very closely related to iridia and the seven tribes. They all looked to the sea for food and learned to fear and respect its storms. Bokin is one of the few gods that worship of is not only allowed but practically encouraged for those who live off of the seas bounty such as the navy and the fishermen. One of the prime tenants of this god is that the wealth of the sea is his. He will willingly give pearls and fish, but is said to curse those who dreg up loot from ships and those who overuse and abuse the ocean.
