The Great Hunt. TerraNuvia's favorite thing to watch. Hunters go out and kill creatures for fame and glory.
Players will create and play a Hunter. The rp will center around the Hunters and their struggles in dealing with fighting monsters, making connections, and dealing with the effects of "Serum"
This RP will be a Semi-sandbox RP. Players will be allowed to create their stories, sub-plots, adventures and all that. Locations will be set up and there will be thread wide events such as The hunts. Not everyone will have to move at the same speed however I will be making Time Checks and announce the date and time it is in the RP every so often.
Due to a massive chain of nuclear blasts the landscape of the earth and even the inhabitants had changed vastly. The plants and creatures have all nearly died due to radiation. This forced humanity to try and find a new home. One of the planets that we colonized was dubbed TerraNuvia. It has an atmosphere very similar to earth which is what led people to start a colony. What they didn't realize was that TerraNuvia is crawling with monsters, creatures that pose a very real threat to the safety of the colony. At first they were more of a nuisance, an occupational hazard, that slowed the colonization of the planet. They eventually however, grew more and more aggressive and much more dangerous. While the reason for this is unknown many have theorized that the bacteria we brought with us from earth caused an atmospheric mutation. No matter the cause, the city was nearly built and something needed to be done to keep citizens safe.
Luckily for us, the radiation from earth has also affected many humans. Mutations have become commonplace now, however major changes like flight and cell manipulation are quite rare. Even when born with major mutations, the person’s control over the abilities is weak and they cannot use them to their fullest potential. To access their abilities completely one would have to use a dose of Serum, the most powerful biological enhancer on the market.
Enter, The League of Hunters.
The League of Hunters started out as a selective service program that brought in any person with a mutation that was seen valuable, but it proved so effective that most Hunters were discharged not too long after they were sent to hunt. The League is still a vital part of the world’s society today but much fewer hunters are needed and the hunts have become a spectacle for all citizens to enjoy. Many hunters fight to keep people safe but there are also those who fight for fame and fortune. Serum is readily available to hunters.
As the hunts became widely watched, a ranking system was put in place. Well known hunters may be approached for sponsorship deals due to their huge popularity. Seeing this as a good opportunity corporations within the city have started hunting teams. These teams are good ways for new hunters to get exposure and the best gear. Teams can be owned by massive corporations or by small businesses trying to claim a stake in the world. Within the city billboards and posters can be seen highlighting hunters and their teams. Not all hunters are affiliated with teams. 50 years since the first televised hunt, it is now the number one most watched program in all of TerraNuvia and even some of the other human colonies.
The highest ranked hunters are known to be some of the richest people in The City. Veteran hunters however are not always revered. The serum that many hunters rely on has very strong side effects if not used responsibly. Serum can cause a person’s mental stability to crumble. Detoxing is a vital recommendation for hunters but very few actually follow the regulations. This is because many hunters have become lax in their training and rely heavily on the serum’s effects while fighting. The hunts are televised and the viewers can choose which hunters to watch. This gives advertisers good insight into which hunters are getting the most viewers. Hunters are also ranked on their hunts based on several different factors including number of kills, danger level of kills, and style points. Style points are huge because the better the action, the more people will watch. This led hunters to move from the very powerful, and effective, energy rifles they originally used to more flashy weapons like swords, axes, pistols, etc. Once hunters made that switch ratings went way up!
