A harsh, violent civil war ravages the land, fought between the Valken military and the savages of the Outlands. A lawless, destitute, dreadful place of murder, incivility, kidnappings, and poverty. Versus an all-powerful, militaristic kingdom, thriving on untold riches.

Valken/Outlander Lore, History, World, Motivations and Civil War

***

~~~~~~~
Valken is a magical, powerful world, endowed with many many riches; literally a world primarily ran by magical and excessively lavish might.
Many many many years ago, near the beginning of this world, a powerful being known as Valheim, who did not understand much of the world, despite being an all-powerful deity, threatened to destroy this world. Together, with Valheim's brother, a band of strong humans faced him, to thwart his world-ending catastrophe.
At the end of the hard-fought battle, it was suggested that Valheim learn humility and compassion. To do this, he would have to assume a mortal form. Which he did. In time, he grew close to humans, and ended up mating with the leader of this band of humans, and thus spawned the Valkyrie line, which ended up ruling the kingdom of Valken that would thrive in the many many years to come.
Due to Valken's connection with such powerful beings, the kingdom grew and flourished. Golds, and riches were discovered aplenty in that world. Through, peace, the kingdom of Valken masterfully crafted its own world. A world built on strength -military might- and power of wealth. It was not long, until many citizens who were not in the loop of the upper class of Valken were completely left behind, in the dirt and dust. A mighty central capitol city was built around Valken castle. A magnificent, radiant city, surrounded by a great wall, that housed the richest of the rich. People who were self-absorbed (mostly), and only cared for themselves (more or less). It was Valken's wealth that allowed for this to occur, to grow, and fester.
This affluent blight of wealth, that took hold on Valken.
Other various cities were erected in the kingdom, that also housed upper class (with the very lowest being upper-middle class). These cities were loyal to Valken, and with established trade routes, also took part in the Kingdom's best luxuries. Though, the Kingdom's absolute best, truly was within Valkens capitol.
With their ties to the gods of that world, Valken's military fostered, sprouting and becoming some of the most powerful fighters in all of the world. With legendary classes often endowed with incredible magic; these classes exhibited insane domination and mastery. Including, but not limited-to: Dead-eyes, Valkyrur, and Vanir.
A religion also sprung up, with various priests, priestesses, and other various apostles. They indulge in the incredible wealth that Valken is known for, and praise the gods of old, like Valheim, and his brother, and their sisters. Believing that those powerful beings built their world, and gifted them with this sea of gold and power. These people are generally zealots, and will never break free of their praise of the gods.
...
Naturally, those that were left behind, grew angry, and envious. Their way of life only poverty, and grief. With meals uncertain. The very next day a present. Even clothes were not entirely common. (It was not unusual to see people wearing rags, or hardly anything at all -sometimes even naked, and frail from hunger). These people, who lived on the outskirts of the kingdom, suffering from the lack of any aid, were known as the Outlanders. In the Outlands, there were no rules, or laws, and anyone could do anything they want, getting away with thievery, pillaging, raiding, and even murder. In some ways, this was the skillset of a common Outlander. For that is what they were born into, and all they knew.
Eventually, an Outlander army arose, seeking to free themselves of the shackles of poverty. Working together, they began to target exclusively Valken military encampments, and routes, plundering anything and all supplies they could get a hold of. This aggression, sparked a civil war between Valken and the Outlanders, that rages even to this day.
Outlanders continue to assault Valken outposts, but can't do much else. The might of Valken's military and their training of powerful class units, far exceed most of what the Outlanders are able to accomplish. This puts a major halt on extending any further reach, for the Outlanders simply cannot match Valken's strength blow for blow.
That was, until, a young woman named Shy, snuck within the barracks of Valken's capitol, for years, she would listen in, and gain information. This young woman would bring this knowledge to her brothers and sisters in the Outlands, helping to train their own powerful class units. With her aid, the Outlanders began to rise up, and grow in strength. For this impressive display of backbone, and her unparalleled skill with a bow, Shy was appointed the Archer-General, of the growing Outlander army.
...
Though, Valken was built on power, and money, swimming down deep in plenty of both, Valken royalty, are not necessarily evil or bad characters. They just have let the kingdom and Outlands drift too far apart. It has turned to war, and other than battle, they are not quite sure what to do about this situation. The Outlanders refuse to listen to anything, and Valken refuses to give into Outlander demands. Thus, even though it is tragic, the war rages on.
Rules:
1. RPN rules apply. Also be kind and respectful and mature.
2. Swearing is okay, just don't go overboard. This is a dark setting.
3. Try to make posts at least a paragraph (more is preferable).
4. Don't godmode, metagame or powerplay. I decide what is acceptable.
5. Again I decide how everything ultimately works, but I'll try to be fair.
6. I have decided on certain classes, and their skills/paths, but if anyone has any unique ideas, I'm not afraid from compromising. :)
7. This is not a stat-based rp, but there will be some consistency required. Which again, I decide on. ^^
8. Though, this rp is not stat-based, Skills do play a major role, so try to keep them consistent/fair/unique/ and fun. Thanks!
9. Have fun!  :D
