Poetry If A Woman Could Speak

Stok

The Mercenary
If a woman could speak,
She'd tell you she's suffering,
And has suffered.

If a woman could speak she'd say,
They've been beating us,
And raping us,
Forcing us to give birth to their children,
And burning us alive.

For talking back,
Or dressing bad,
Or speaking our minds,

They've called us harlots,
And witches,
And dumb,
And weak,
And kept us out of jobs,

They say this is our purpose,
To be second class,
50,000 burned at the stake,
For speaking their minds,

If a woman could speak,
Would you listen?

If A Man Was Free

If a man was free,
what would he think?

He might consider what to wear,
what his kids might look like,
or if his sweetheart will give him a second date...

But he remembers his obligation,
women and children first they say,
but he wants to live,
wants a future.

So the man survived,
and he was a demon for it.

If a man was free,
what would he think?

He might chase his own happiness,
be tough they say,
make money they say.

The world is yours tough, free man
your failures are nothing
but
your own...

If a man was free,
how would he live?

He is the first to die,
so women can live,
50 thousand dead by the enemy
50 thousand dead by suicide
50 thousand dead by addiction
50 thousand dead by loneliness...

Your sperm is just as good as any,
one man for them all,
go on hero,
die for me.

If a man was free,
what would he think?

The prisons for the men we failed,
systems of abuse,
day in, day out, controlled by whims of anger,
survival,
their rape is but a statistic at best,
a joke at worst,
the rape of a woman...
tragedy.

If a man could speak,
he couldn't,
because he was spoken over,
by men and women alike.
