the plot
in a world not unlike our own, society's economical split is defined by more than just wealth. the "ruling class", as they're called by some, aren't human - they're vampires. amassing their wealth not over many decades and generations, but over few centuries and generations. their natural lifespan allows their species to make leaps and bounds where humans may only take small steps, putting them at the top of the natural order. even the aristocrats - the top of the vampire chain, serving on councils that oversee other governmental groups - fall on hard times every now and then, though. now is one such time of trouble, and in order to keep their place in the top margin, action must be taken. among humans, the blood of some carry more mystical properties than simply sustenance when drank by a vampire. it's these humans that are needed now, being called upon discretely to be brought into the families as one of their own.

with the humans in question still attending high school, just as the children of those on the council are, the humans have been given scholarships to one of the top high schools in their area, a private boarding school that otherwise, only the richest of humans can send their children. between the high quality education at the tips of their fingers and the white lies about why they've received the scholarships, the humans don't know what's in store for them. after all, this blood property of theirs is a very well-kept secret. it's too much leverage for humanity, were they to know. unfortunately for the aristocratic children who need to obtain this blood, it's up to them to woo the humans. their parents will have no part in this, trusting that their children are responsible enough to be up to the task and treat it with tact. they don't just need the blood, after all - they need to marry the human, and once they're turned, the families will have what they need.

really, the humans should be honoured!

It is now the fifth of September, the first day of school! Students began arriving on Friday, and continued to do so through Monday. Breakfast is served from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM, and classes begin at 7:45 AM. However, today is a mandatory assembly for all students in the auditorium, held by the school's very own Headmaster Jones. Any students not found in attendance will forfeit their attendance to elective courses this afternoon, and will have to choose by either memory or assumption.

Though the morning began a little chilly, the sun has brought some much-needed warmth to the old campus, and students are reminded to apply their sunblock before heading to the cafeteria for breakfast. Dr. Evans may be on call as needed, but she would rather not see anyone on the first day of school. Seating in the auditorium is not assigned, and students are encouraged to sit with their friends. Any disturbances during assembly will be dealt with separation, however, so only sit with those you trust to keep quiet while Headmaster Jones speaks!

After assembly, students will be free to walk the campus and either refresh their knowledge of its corridors, or become familiar with them if they are new. After lunch, demonstrations for electives will be held in their respective classrooms, after which students may apply for said electives. As a reminder, clubs can be applied for to be formed or reinstated later in the month, and recruitment may start at any time after the club has been approved.

School is in session!

( and there we have it! to avoid any problems, everyone's class schedules are relatively the same! aside from
this wonderful assembly, the first half of the day is just a general "get to know your peers and teachers" - regardless
of how long you've been attending the academy. so just get your character in the auditorium, we'll have the headmaster
do his blurb, and then we'll skip to lunch, picking electives, etc. originally this was going to be the first day of classes,
but uh, let's be real about this - there's more to do if they're not passing notes in class LOL )

Vincent Tyler
Vincent grinned as he stepped inside the ginormous Sanguine Academy auditorium. The room looked like a closed in version of the Greek amphitheater. The walls were a dusty, comforting brown color and made from some kind of gritty stone. The stage was large, the curtains standing several feet tall, the lights illuminating the raised platform. It currently held a podium, a set of maybe fifteen chairs, and a group of teachers chatting amongst themselves. In the fancy, Broadway-like seats sat several students, though Vincent knew there were plenty more to come. He let the door swing shut behind him, making sure to close it gently so the sound didn't point him out and make his entrance obvious. He was a scholarship human in a school filled with rich vampires and human aristocracy, and while he enjoyed attention, he was in a focused mindset and preferred not to be distracted.

As Vincent took a seat halfway up the slanted row of seats off to the right side of the room, he thought back to how his first few days had gone. For moving all the way across the country, from hick town to city-slicker central, he felt as if he'd settled in pretty well. On the first day, he'd spent a few minutes talking with the Headmaster before the older man had gotten an upperclassman named Carlisle to show him to his dorm. Vincent had taken in as much of the campus as possible during the walk there, as he didn't really know when he'd have time to just explore his new home. From what he'd seen, the place lived up to the rumors of it being a place nearly as gorgeous as the Aegean Sea. It was comfortable here. There was an air of easiness that seemed to blow through like a cool, gentle breeze, which was something Vincent was accustomed to.

After he'd reached his room, he'd spent a few minutes ogling his new living space before he'd unpacked his minimal belongings and went over his school info. He'd read a Physics book on light until dinner time, ate, showered, and then headed to bed. The next couple days after that, he'd explored the campus, made a few kinda-friends, and developed the plans for a prototype of a little robot that could do all the household chores people do in just three minutes. That led him to today. To this morning.

Vincent had gotten out of bed around 5:30 and went through his daily routine. Shower, fix hair, brush teeth, wash face, get dressed, and track down breakfast. Today was no different. His shower was short, but he took his time with everything else. By the time he was crossing campus to the cafeteria, he was wide awake and bursting with happy, eager energy. He was beyond happy to be here and crazy excited to start classes. Unlike most teenagers, school was one of Vincent's favorite things, especially when it was held outside. Vincent had arrived at the cafeteria at 6:15 and gotten his breakfast, sitting a table off to the left with Carlisle and his girlfriend, Mia. They were pretty nice. They'd be graduating this year, like Vincent would be. The three of them had chatted while they'd eaten breakfast, and then parted ways outside the auditorium with plans to meet up and look at electives later.

Which was how Vincent got to where he was now, sitting quietly in a seat in the auditorium with a big, genuine smile on his face and an eager bounce in his leg.

Back straight, chin up, and don't look back.

Ariel rehearsed these phrases as she performed her early morning routine. Never had she felt this tense about the first day of school. Maybe it's because the school has the 'academy' attached to its name, or the new prestige faces, or perhaps the breakfast wasn't sitting in so well. Did she leave something behind? She patted down all her pockets and she was assured she had it all. Maybe she should've just stayed in her dorm for breakfast, make cereal or instant oatmeal. Maybe she should've used breakfast time as a chance to run; to run as fast as possible, as far as possible, leaving these feelings behind her...

Now was not the time though. She simply had to learn that the breakfast here wasn't adequate to her and interfered partly with her morning workout. She would have to switch the time over to later in the afternoon - implying she's given an afternoon - or at worst, well, she'll work out in the evening. Whatever, she could tackle the mess of that schedule later. Ariel just had to survive through this old guy rambling on about how great Sanguine Academy and all those great, awesome opportunities lying ahead, and wanting the best for their students, and etc. etc..

She walked into the auditorium with tall posture, eyeballing the room before her. There weren't too many people present, at least not enough to give her a throbbing headache, but she knew they would come and gather to mingle and what not. Speaking of which, wasn't there... an encouragement to sit with friends? What friends? If lunch was the time to make a 'mandatory' friend to click alongside with to survive the school year, well, she was screwed. She wasn't even sure if there was anyone who lived next to her dorm room, hearing and seeing no sign of them; that or they really wanted to avoid her. For the time Ariel has spent at the school - which isn't much - she's been primarily quiet, as if she didn't even know what to say to the other people. Eventually she was going to, or rather she had to, but the thought encouraged her silence instead of communication.

No, stop thinking, and remain confident.

So, she walked with that confidence through the auditorium. She'd find a spot that didn't look like a start of a clique's formation and take comfort at that. The room didn't feel fitting for a school, and she thought it was more for a private college than anything else, but what did she know about upper-high-class stuff? Vacations are probably the closest thing she got. Nevertheless, she looked beyond that, and onto empty rows that were still partially close to people, but not close enough. One row that caught her eye had very little people sitting on it, so she made herself comfortable at that spot. Instead of turning her attention to her cellphone however she continued to eyeball the room.

Everything seemed pretty over-done, as if they dumped too much money at one place. The tall walls, curtains, stage, and even the partially comfortable seating further dug in the outcast feeling. So, she started to spot some faces. Some had geek written all over them while others could've been part time models or actors for some big company she could care less about. Alright, so, maybe looking at people didn't make her feel better. Ariel turned around to acquire a glimpse of the things behind her. Well, behind her was this one dude who was... excited? Excited of his first day here? His leg was jumpy and his smile was kind of weird, like, overly happy. Really, if he could lend her some of his energy she'd appreciate that. Ariel then turned her attention back to what was before her: a spacious room filling with students by fleeting moments.

Even her leg started to bounce, shake, and yearn for movement. Ariel was going to dread this, she just knew it. All she wanted was her schedule, her neighbor's name, and to meet her team. There was nothing more or less to that, and this process felt so dreadful and unnecessary. The schools she went to before never did this, so why this one? Just because they're a bloody academy? Awful, truly, but she was going to stick with it. She seemed eager to make small talk, but she held back till she felt less awkward. Ariel also kept her devices quiet and on herself, giving no attention to them in the case of getting in trouble. Still, she remained as strong as possible, keeping attention on the environment without freaking out. After all, that's the last thing she'd want to do; Ariel knew she wasn't going to, but it gave her motivation to keep her back straight and chin up. Oh, and don't look back.

▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

The first day of classes was always a joke to Olivia, "friends" catching up with one another while humans scurried around with twitchy eyes and dry mouths. True prey among predators, sheep herded into the auditorium to huddle with their own kind while the dangerous majority milled about without a care. As one who fell into the latter category, Olivia couldn't help the sharp smile she flashed one such group of humans as she passed through one of the grand pairs of doors into Sanguine Academy's auditorium. Too easy. Sure, as far as the human minority went, they had money, but it was nothing compared to the wealth of others...well, except maybe the current state of her family's wealth. The confident smile on her face wavered, only to be replaced just as quickly with a solid imitation. They had kept things quiet, and that wasn't going to end now.

Each step she took down the stairs of the auditorium towards the center front rows portrayed the elegance and grace of an aristocrat - something that only a small portion of the school could claim with honesty - and polite greetings were exchanged with some familiar faces. Olivine eyes took in her options for seating, her watch ticking ever closer to 7:45, when Headmaster Jones would begin his speech. Some new faces - too old to be freshman, but too pinched to be established students - caught her eye as she passed. Olivia's gaze flit away from them, a mental checklist in her mind's eye as she went over what she knew about her donor. It went unspoken that the batch of scholarship students whispered about over the weekend were for falling aristocrats, seeing as the rumours had quickly become confirmed that they were all seniors. Who got a scholarship for a boarding school for their senior year, after all? But the troubled families were less known, nothing more than shots in the dark, since Sanguine Academy was known to host internationally. Some of the guesses had some solid facts to back them up, but others? Not so much.

There were other transfer students than just the humans on scholarships, not uncommon among vampires given how slowly they aged. Olivia herself had plans to attend a school in Europe after graduating from Sanguine Academy, a tasteful change in scenery once the drama of the year had passed. This year alone, she knew there to be at least a dozen transfer students, not including those on late scholarships. At the very least, those humans would have something wonderful to put on their university applications, assuming they didn't get swept off their feet. The High Council had been very clear on the parameters of bringing the proper donor into one's family, as while they were tools to begin the repair of families on local councils, they were still people. If they didn't want to commit to the aristocrat, then they were free to go. As Olivia took a seat in the center column of seats, she eyed the mezzanine level of seating, where staff and a few select council members sat. Her aunt was up there, all sharp edges and sharper remarks, and she averted her gaze just as quickly as it had fallen on the area. She was close enough to the stage to see the front row of mezzanine seats, and an ill feeling swept through her momentarily. At least Aunt Isabelle wouldn't be at the school the whole year - just today.

With a deep breath in through her nose, Olivia exhaled slowly and quietly, releasing the tension from her shoulders. It was just another year at Sanguine Academy - never mind the holes being drilled into the back of her skull by Aunt Isabelle - and she would be out milling the campus with her classmates in no time. Manicured nails tapped an impatient rhythm on the shared arm of the seat she sat in, the final minutes falling away much slower now that she was in the auditorium. Headmaster Jones was nothing if not punctual, and she wondered briefly if there would be any latecomers to the welcoming speech. Hopefully not for their sakes; depending on their attitude, they could be treated like those who were foolish enough to skip the assembly. Now that would be interesting, despite the lack of benefit to it.

BENJAMIN MAVERICK
The Hostile Situation

Benjamin yawned as he got ready for his first day at Sanguine Academy. Now Benji, be a good boy and for heaven's sakes, don't get into any trouble, His mother had warned him before sending him off. Benjamin mocked her warning as he wore his jacket and strode out the room. "Not if I can help it." He mumbled to himself. But of course, he knew he had to have caution. He was, after all, here for a purpose. It would be hard to stay out of trouble, but Benjamin would try to at least contain himself for the first day.

He walked into the semi-filled cafeteria and grabbed a sausage before heading to the auditorium. While it wasn't blood, it would have to do for now. Benjamin slipped into the auditorium a few minutes before assembly began and took his place. A familiar face was seated in front of him. "Well, if it isn't little miss Olivia," He whispered with a smirk as leaned closer to her. "Had a good vacation?"

Before leaving his room, Haneul double-checked to make sure he had his sunblock on properly. Like any other vampire, any uncovered area he had would develop third-degree burns from the harsh sun rays. For one thing, it would be extremely painful, and Haneul didn't want to ruin his skin. He didn't want any blemishes on his beautiful clear skin. It sounds very feminine, but that's how he was raised. Maintaining your appearance was just as important to him and his clan as an other skill set.

He looked into the mirror that hanged on the wall. Combing his soft hair with his long fingers. Instead of styling it upwards, he lets his bangs fall naturally over his forehead, giving him a more clean and proper look. Something he doesn't like to do often. He liked wearing dark sweatshirts, skinny jeans, and styling his hair with hair gel or hair spray. He had a bad boy kind of style, despite having zero characteristics of one. Today he dressed himself appropriately and he already knew wearing a uniform was going to be a pain. It felt restrictive, but at least the color scheme was to his liking.

Soon he was making his way to the auditorium for the assembly. He watched other students gathering into the auditorium and he of course followed. Haneul scanned the large room, trying to find the perfect spot for him to sit conformably, which ended up being impossible thanks to his long legs. Walking down the stairs, he hears his name, or well his nickname, being called out to his right. He looked over and saw familiar looking faces of both male and female alike. He remembers meeting the group, when he was exploring the academy grounds the say after he first arrived.

They were beckoning him over to sit with them, and that's exactly what he did. He felt awkward that he didn't remember any of their names, but he tried his best not to show it on his face. He reciprocated their friendly greetings and asked them what electives they were going to pick. No one here knew of his clans situation and in all honesty, it felt very refreshing not having to be scrutinized and mocked for everything he did. He didn't have to hear snickers from both vampires and humans as he walked by them. It angered him greatly that he couldn't talk back at them, or yell at them to stop. Staying silent under scrutiny was also something he was raised to do, so there was no other option for him than to marry the blood donor. It seemed to be the only way his clan can get out of this mess.

Haneul leaned back in chair, trying to stretch out his legs as far as possible. As he thought it was very cramped because of his tall height, and no amounts of shifting could help him feel comfortable. He tries to lean back in his chair, waiting for the assembly to just start already. As he talked with his "friends", he noticed how the girls in the group looked as if they were hanging on to his every word. They looked star-struck to say the least, but Haneul just pretended not to notice. He only had one girl on his mind, and he hasn't even met her in person yet.

Min-jun Seok
The first day of Sanguine Academy. Great. Min-jun was not looking forward to facing the day. Whether it was the crippling homesickness or the lack of his normal diet, the young Korean vampire did not know. Seriously obtaining animal blood at the Academy was tougher than searching for human blood in the Seok estate. It was a frustrating diliemma. His father had reccomeneded Min-jun to at least attempt to change his "vegan diet" for a typical vampire one. However, that was one topic the two members disagreed upon. Min-jun while conceded to do the council's bidding , but that was one thing he refused to do. He wanted to keep his moral compass somewhat straight. It doesn't help that he spent the last week receiving constant weird glances from other vampires, as well as off-handed comments. Min-jun guessed that news of Seok's family 'illness' traveled to Sanguine Academy. Most vampires who knew the Seok name avoided him, even then Min-jun awkward rambling caused most to walk away mid- conversation. Mickey guessed not everyone was too interested in the swimming patterns of a jellyfish or thermodynamics of a rocket at launch. Hopefully things will look up soon...maybe.

Once showered and dressed Min-jun ran his fingers through his recently dyed hair. He looked like a wannabe pop star but what was he supposed to do? One of his human friends begged to practice on him and it wasn't like her request was that outrageous. With that last thought the Korean vampire took a deep breath, grabbed his satchel, and exited out of his dorm.

"Seven twenty. Great no time for breakfast. Father would kill me if I was absent from the assembly."

Rushing over to the auditorium. Min-jun entered the auditorium as quietly as he could. Once finding a seat a sufficient distance from the closest breathing being, he sat down trying to look as dignified as he could. Which ment he appeared totally stiff and somewhat constipated. His grandfather warned him if his demeanor showed any weakness it would be his doom. Which meant that Mickey was a sitting duck. He was on par with humans in the 'threatening' department. Bats were probably scarier than him. His grandfather told him it was a hard world outside the estate and surrounding villages. Not everyone was as kind, and many befriended for influence, money, and power. All Min-jun wanted was to 'woo' his human and leave. It did not matter anyway. Until his illness was cured, Min-jun was positive he would not make any friendship amoung his own kind. Slouching slightly into his seat, the anxiety-ridden bloodsucker waited for the assembly to begin.
