A light shone deeply within her, touching the world around her in the form of small acts of kindness. Forgiveness given freely, anger hidden within so she wouldn’t hurt anyone, tears hidden so nobody would feel guilty. A smile, laughter echoing, she’ll never let them see her pain. A whisper of understanding dances on her lips and she gives a hug to give her kindness to someone else. Soft music plays in the background, birds chirping and sun shining in the sky above.

Given time, the light dims and flickers, as she gives more and more of her kindness and light to those around her. Just how far can she go before her own light blinks out? An outstretched hand helps a stranger up from the ground, the girl smiling down at the boy. His light was already so dim, his smile was faint and his eyes held hidden tears, too. Giving more of her light, the girl helped the boy up and relit the light that had appeared to be off in the beginning. Their laughter and smiles intertwined in the kiss of love, the two quickly falling for each other.

Time passed and the kindling began to die. The flames of love flickered like her light and she soon met another boy. A new light, one that seemed to already be shining so brightly. Blinded by the light, the girl wistfully followed it like a moth, wondering if her flickering light could be brought back to life by this boy. Her heart stolen, the girl abandoned the first boy, leaving him as his light began to flicker again. This wasn’t the first time this had happened and he sat down on the ground, his face in his hands while his light grew dimmer and dimmer.

The girl believed this new boy was the one and only one for her. His light gave her a warmth she’d never known and his touch taught her things no boy had ever taught her before. Yet, there was reason for his blinding light. It hid the swirling darkness hidden behind his eyes. Just because the light was so bright, did not mean it was kindness. Like a moth, the girl kept going back and slowly she began to burn scars into herself. Her light flickered and for a time, she thought it was out for good. Sharp words broke through the dark, as the girl broke free of the boy’s grasp and she gasped for air when she fled.

With the new boy gone, the girl’s light flickered and blinked out. His darkness had spread and engulfed her mind for too long. Where was the light? No hands reached out to help the girl up and she soon found herself on the ground like the boy before. Her hands caressed her light, which had not shone for a while now. Hidden tears were no longer concealed, as she cried out, but nobody heard her cries. Blurs of people walking around her, yet nobody tried to help. Her mind whispered lies in her ears and she soon accepted her new fate.

Now the girl wanders, lost and alone, her light dampened.
