[Hyaku Monogatari: The Act of 100 Ghostly Stories] Moshi Arashi

Coyotekin

Catalytic Diplomat
At a young age Arashi showed exceptional skill all around in just about anything he applied himself to, but usually preferred the academic ways, and understanding the Kami, more than anything else. He was taken in by the Brotherhood of Osan-Wo (or whatever the formal name was), some say it was from signs they received given the day Arashi was born on. (Where the night is filled with lightning and the temple is struck repeatedly by said lightning). Others, whispering out of earshot, said there was much money "donated". Whatever the origins Arashi was trained in the ways of martial combat by the Sohei, while being further educated about his heritage and the Kami. This would give him a very good grounding to protect himself in the future.

Arashi is an attractive man, more so in the sense of his presence alone and not in any particular physical characteristic. Arashi has eyes of blue, often reflecting the weather, going through different shades as there are different shades of blue between the sky and the seas. It is also said, quietly so as not to shame themselves for gossiping, that when Arashi gets angry, or very emotional, a storm is shown raging in his eyes. This is namesake, Arashi, the Storm. Some of the sohei have started to call it the calm before the storm as it tends to let them know when a storm is coming. (Or, that Arashi's emotions are getting to him. Something used in combat against him for many years). And because of this Arashi was educated on the finer points of etiquette, and because he represents the Great Clan Mantis.....and Osan-Wo no less, that he should know how to compose himself and not dishonor him family.

As time went by it became painfully aware, at least to those not of the Moshi family, that Arashi showed a dedication to the Kami and the Sun, much like his family. So given his natural aptitudes and his dedication to the Kami it came at no surprise to anyone that Arashi become a Shugenja. Although there was many that were a little saddened as they felt Arashi showed a natural gift in the martial arts.

With his time spent with multiple tutors, when not training exclusively in the Shugenja arts, Arashi was exposed to different ways of thinking. So while he is deeply religious in the ways of his Family, with a habit, (some might think annoyingly so), of visiting every major nearby temple to the Kami, Arashi doesn't feel the Matriarchal ways are best. The energy of a Patriarchal family is much more to his liking, and similar to what he has experienced in his time training under the Sohei. He doesn't make much mention of this, but he looks forward to serving the Clan as a whole, instead of just focusing on what the Family wishes.

He also has a reputation earned from his need to be closer to the Kami by way of mastering each and every spell that he learns. He seeks to make them a part of him as the Kami has their gifts and spells as a part of them. And even though such a chosen path is considered very challenging, and perhaps only "meant" for legendary heroes, Arashi knows he can make it happen, and never have to be burdened down by spell scrolls if he can help it.

When Arashi graduated he was given a very special set of Kama, known as the Storm Kama. He has basic training in how to use them, with skill in Jujitsu to compensate for when he is without them. All the same, he knows what an honor this is and will strive to improve his skill dramatically so as to bring glory and honor to his family and Clan Mantis.

Arashi tends to travel light when it comes to equipment, while looking armed much like a warrior with his Storm Kama, a pair of Sais, a War Fan, a Wakizashi, and a Tanto. He can be found with multiple scroll cases as is appropriate to his chosen path, in addition to many others to hold the many things that he studies. Beyond that he carries only what other things he might need, having picked up such a habit from the Sohei he trained under.<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2013_04/57a8bfc3b1293_MoshiArashi_pdf.1239d4f3b903c8330fc6eadab9ee1c23" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="23950" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2013_04/57a8bfc3b1293_MoshiArashi_pdf.1239d4f3b903c8330fc6eadab9ee1c23" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>
