Help how to bring back the "user is typing" thing

So I really enjoy seeing the "X User is typing..." thing towards the bottom of the page on a thread, but recently it disappeared for me. i think it may have happened when my cat jumped on my phone, the stinker, and used his toe beans to press the "hide this feature" button.

I've searched settings etc but cant find a way to toggle it back on.

Anyone have a solution to this? please??
