How do you play dice role-plays?

I'm reasonably new to roleplaying and have never played a dice game before. So can someone give tell me the basic rules of dungeons and dragons (the dice games are based of that right?). I'm pretty sure their quite complicated though so just tell me the basics I need to know to join a dice using role play.

D&D is probably the most popular of the dice systems (or at least the most well-known), but I wouldn't say all the rest are based off them. Many systems are very, very different from D&D! I'd suggest, if you want to join a dice game, pick one that looks interesting and ask the GM if he doesn't mind teaching a new player. Most will be fine with it
