Hotaka is the youngest of seven brothers to a minor noble family. Hotaka was often teased or pranked on by his older brother due to his young age and feminine personality and interests since as a boy Hotaka loved the color pink as well as sewing, shopping, painting, and flowers arranging. Hotaka was only really close to his mother in his family who always wanted a daughter but had to settle with him for teaching all her hobbies and skills down to as her other sons won't even try to pick up or learn. Hotaka often gotten arguments with his father and older brothers due to his interests, Hotaka's father like with his older brothers forced him to learn how to fight with a weapon, Hotaka picked the Yumi and he never really put it down. At first, Hotaka only learned so he can get his father off his back, but he enjoyed practicing and hitting his mark. Out of his brother, Hotaka was the most skilled with his weapon, his brothers were jealous of him and his skill that they increased their bullying and teasing, but Hotaka toughen up and kept practicing even if his brothers hated him.
One day in the capital of Hoshido there was an archery contest to see the best archer in Hoshido. With the urging of his parents, Hotaka went to the capital and joined the contest. Hotaka did his best and put his everything into each shot, but he barely fell short of the top place, Hotaka ended up in third place in the finale, but he was the youngest person in the top 25 archer, his young age, and skill with a Yumi caught the eye of King Katsuo. He personally asked to meet Hotaka after the award ceremony, to the shock of everybody, Hotaka included. The King asked Hotaka to be the retainer of his oldest son. Hotaka was shocked and was worried he wasn't qualified to be the retainer of the crowned Prince after some talking to and convincing, Hotaka agreed and was immediately loyal to the Prince and royal family and he would do anything to please him and keep him safe from harm even at the cost of his safety and life. It has been a few years since then and Hotaka is still ever loyal and dutiful, but with the war on the horizon, Hotaka will have to do even more to keep his master safe.
