Appearance
Hair: Long and dark brown, falling just past her waist. Naturally lightly curled, often worn loose or half-up in braids. Eyes: Wide and dark grey in color, as is standard of Starks. Elayna is known for her apparent icy, unforgiving gaze. Though, it is hardly ever an intention on her part to give off that feeling. Height: 5'10 Build: Oft described as willowy, tall and lean, though she is not without a feminine figure that would be seen fit by anyone. TypicalAttire: She’s primarily seen in grey and black dresses. Long-sleeved, layered, and simple. Fur cloaks to keep her warm in the cold. Occasionally wears dark purples and dark blues. She also wears a dark silver/metal necklace bearing the Stark’s direwolf sigil.
History
❆❆❆
Elayna was born as the first child of Lord Rickard and Lady Lyarra Stark, and their first girl. Old Nan once told her she was born at night amidst a raging snow storm and that she swore she heard direwolves howling once she had been born. A story that had fascinated Elayna when she was a child, but she then grew to believe it as just a tale once she was old enough to know that direwolves had not been south of the Wall in a long time. The wolves were most likely the wind, or standard wolves.
After her birth there was a long period between her and the birth of her younger brother, Brandon. Several years of her parents struggling to conceive. But eventually came Brandon, and after that the rest of Elayna's siblings came easily.
Elayna had a pleasant childhood. She adored her parents and her younger siblings. She took easily and efficiently to the traditional activities of a Lady, like embroidery and song. She was also studious, she took to reading and books well. Her parents believe that reading books beyond her stature and age are to be credited for her almost solemn nature. She was also regarded to be mature, and growing up she often served as a mediator between her parents and her younger siblings when need be. Her relationship with her brother Brandon was probably the most heated one. She was older, but he was to be the Lord. She was calm, he was hotheaded. Nevertheless, they loved one another and Brandon was fiercely protective of her. Eddard, however, was possibly the one she was closest with. He followed her around as much as he could as a child, probably why they ended up so similar. Lyanna and Elayna got along, but weren't the closest. They were interested in different things, and Lyanna was much like Brandon. Still, they cared for each other. Benjen and Elayna had the most difference in age and didn't spend much time together. But they were family, and Elayna babied him often.
The Starks were under the assumption that Elayna would be easy to marry off. She was pretty, talented, well-mannered. Unfortunately it would prove to be difficult to find her a suitable husband. She was highly desirable, at first. She was betrothed twice, and both men suffered untimely deaths. They were no fault of Elayna's, of course, just their own. She had yet to marry and rumors began. She was cursed, all men she loved doom to die. Or that she was a wicked woman and she killed her would-be husbands for her own satisfaction. Neither of which were true, but she suffered the consequence of it. Men were afraid to marry her. She grew older. Lesser men came with proposals, ones that her father would promptly deny. Lords similar to her age were getting betrothed and married quickly. Her parents became much more occupied with her siblings. Brandon, who would become Lord of Winterfell one day. Lyanna came along, who would be much easier to marry off.
Elayna supposed she didn't mind. She was often occupied with her duties or her siblings. Wishful thinking said maybe it would give her a chance to find someone and fall in love, a marriage of her own choice. A hope that would not come to be true.
Elayna traveled very little in her life. She traveled some with her family to meet and propose marriages, or visit as the Starks were called upon. Elayna went to King's landing twice. Once as a little girl with her father, and again when she came of age to be paraded around at court. She decided that she did not enjoy King's Landing, and preferred her chilly home in the North.
She was content with the path she was being taken down, until word came from the South. A request for Elayna to serve as one of the Queen's ladies. And a proposal of marriage between Elayna Stark and Tywin Lannister. A suggestion from King Aerys himself. It came as a shock to the Stark family and caused a great deal of confusion. And anger, from some. Several days were spent mulling over what the Stark's response would be. There was much yelling, mostly from her brother Brandon, though there was a surprise amount of protest from Ned as well. There was a general dislike and distrust for the Lannisters, all thanks to Tywin himself. Brandon argued the proposal was almost an insult. Ned did not wish this fate upon his sweet sister, married off to a cruel man in a far away land. Lord Rickard was torn, but ultimately Lady Lyarra convinced him it could be a good thing. The Lannisters were a prominent and rich house, and perhaps would be the best offer of marriage Elayna would ever get.
Not that they could really refuse the crown, who pushed for Elayna's presence. So arrangements were made to relocate Elayna to her new home to serve Queen Rhaella, though it was assuredly a courting period more than anything.

❁❁❁
Appearance
Hair: Light brown and wavy, reaching past the middle of her waist. She seems to style it differently all the time, for she likes variety, though one can easily notice that she mostly prefers styles in which she can include certain accessories, such as golden, beaded threads that she can weave in her braids, or pins, crownlets, and veils. Eyes: Dark brown in colour. Small and slightly half-lidded, giving her a more mischievous air, especially when she smiles. Height: 5'4'' Build: Soft and petite, with noticeable curves. TypicalAttire: Dresses that are quite colourful in nature, though Maris favours the lighter hues of the colours of House Tyrell - yellows and greens - and, sometimes, light shades of blue or dark shades of pink, mixed with white and cream or beige. Most of her dresses are ornated with golden thread, as well as jewelled and embroidered patterns. While they are not as revealing as the Dornish ones, they are not terribly covering either as they present various types of cuts. She can be often seen wearing jewellery.
History
Out of the union between Luthor Tyrell and Olenna Redwyne came four children: first Mace, and, not too late after, Mina, and then Maris and Janna, separated only by a few years. It should come as no surprise that Maris was a spoiled child, a little too rebellious and careless, considering that, while she was growing up, much of the pressure of their family name was still falling on her older siblings. She was able to get away with much, still, as Luthor had a weakness for the younger girls, Mace entertained her wants for his own amusement, and Mina was too soft and demure not to be easily dragged along. The challenge was the septas, who answered directly to her mother, but Maris liked to pride herself on the fact that she had been able to get past them as well.
She had yet to learn that Olenna had been far more aware of her doings than she thought her to be. Her mother allowed her many of her supposed victories, in part because Maris wasn't as terrible as to come to her wanting to be a boyish urchin, fighting with wooden swords in the mud, but also because she wanted to encourage her curiosity and her ingenuity. She was as energetic as her brother, though the latter’s energy was often misused.
But, of course, Maris couldn’t escape her duties and studies for too long. The change didn’t happen without some difficulty, however. She often threw tantrums – not because she was spiteful, but because she easily grew bored of what she was made to do. Olenna, alongside the septas, managed to get her to behave, by frequently changing her activities, as well as allowing her more breaks. Mina’s presence often soothed her, as well.
It was her father’s death that grounded and tempered her. All of them, in truth; only little Janna remained partly unaffected, for she was too young at the time. Maris felt as if she lost an important ally in her misbehaving, a protector.
Olenna noticed the change. While Maris continued to need a more flexible approach to things at first, she became more flexible herself, and quicker to compromise, to the point that she no longer needed special treatment. She would do what needed to be done – and not superficially – with little complaint. Of course, Olenna also noticed why she took on the change. Maris found it easier to gain access to what she wanted and do what she wanted when everyone was more than pleased with her and her behaviour. She was good at getting her heart’s desire when she was young, but she grew to be even better, even more convincing, as she got older.
And all the Tyrell siblings grew up in their own ways. Mace became the Lord of Highgarden, Warden of the South, while Olenna continued to whisper in his ear, and he soon got betrothed to Alerie Hightower. Mina grew into a beautiful and intelligent lady, but all too shy, and all too quiet, though ever dutiful, and the marriage proposals came pouring in, from the South, but also from outside of it. Janna grew, too, and seemed to take after Maris, but the family was more prepared to take on such a challenge this time. Maris began to be more involved in the social life of the South and she did enjoy it quite a lot; she loved the feasts, the crowds, being the centre of attention. Some already started to consider her a possible prospect for their own sons.
But the changes in the family weren’t without consequences. Alerie’s addition to the family and Mina’s suitors made Maris wonder about things she hadn’t actively thought of before. She knew that it was her duty to get married – she had been raised and prepared for it, after all – and, she knew that it would have to happen one day, but that day seemed to be closer all out of sudden.
She hadn’t been too aware, growing up, of what her mother and her father’s marriage had entailed. Living with a newlywed couple brought on a new perspective, however. She started to become aware of what it meant to be a young wife by seeing it for herself, and not simply listening to her septas’ honeyed words or Olenna’s explicit teachings and stories. She saw what pregnancy and childbirth meant for a woman – Alerie gave birth to two boys, Willas and Garlan, in the span of three years, and, while her first birth was easy, the second was a bloody thing and she was in pain for days. Her wails were horrible to hear, and, in the end, Maris left the chamber sick to her stomach.
Even though she entertained the thought of not getting married, she wasn’t foolish enough to believe that it was a possibility. As she was soon to be presented to the court, marriage was an inescapable affair. She had never quite given much thought to the men around her, but she was starting to become aware of the influence she could have on them. Some liked her sweet. Some liked her cruel. They bore her easily, though.
And she started to become aware of her brother’s shortcomings on Alerie’s behalf. He seemed to take after their father, in her mother’s words. She loved them both, but could she be satisfied with a man that resembled them?
She didn’t want an oaf of a husband. When Mina stood up for herself, for what seemed to be the first time in her life, saying that she would only marry their cousin, Paxter Redwyne, Maris didn’t think that she would ever want to be in her place, even though she admired the courageous little act.
She wanted more. She had yet to learn what more meant for her.
It was around that time that word from King’s Landing reached Highgarden. The Targaryens desired some Westerosi influence for their future daughter-in-law, the Dornish Princess Elia Martell. They expected House Tyrell to offer one of their daughters to serve the princess as a lady-in-waiting. Olenna made her thorny comments, and Mace recalled the unpleasant history they had with the Martells in his pride, but arrangements had to be made nonetheless.
Mina was the expected choice, the safer choice, but it was Maris whom they went for. She was already meant to be presented at court and serving as a lady-in-waiting would only improve her prospects.
Olenna wanted more, too, and Maris would be able to take it. Matches had already been made with the Reach through Mace and Mina, and Olenna was not looking to respond favourably to the proposals made to her second daughter. Maris was to go to King’s Landing.
And she might as well teach the Dornish princess a thing or two while she was there.
Misc
❁ From all her studies, she preferred the lessons regarding household management, for Olenna had sought to make them more interactive for the girls; they were faced with hypothetical situations that they had to find solutions to.
❁ Maris likes poetry. She is able to recite many poems, Westerosi and Dornish alike, and knows a few from Essos as well.
