Eat The Rude

2015, The Wizarding World is finally coming to terms with the defeat of The Dark Lord. For years after the Battle of Hogwarts witches and wizards still lived in fear of his return and the Ministry still battled to round up any remaining supporter of dark magic. Harry Potter and those that fought with him still remain famous, icons for the world talk fondly of yet it is heard that Mr Potter lives a much quieter life without the threat of Voldemort.

September 1st, a new school year begins at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with Professor McGonagall remaining as headmistress. A quiet year, a year of Quidditch and learning is presumed to be upcoming. But life at Hogwarts has a funny way of causing trouble, even for those who aren't looking for it.

A private fandom 1x1 roleplay.

She was finally there, Hogwarts, a school where Alex could finally learn how to be a witch, cast spells, brew magic potions and who knows, maybe even learn how to ride a magical mortar like Baba Jaga! Since when she stepped inside the train, Aleksandra Sherman was extremelly excited, she was glad that the train had a more familiar shape, unlike those she she saw since waking up from her magical slumber, but she could tell that everything around her had at least a certain degree of magic in it. And she was there, gingerly following her future classmates inside the lantern lighted stone walls of the castle. "Whoa! This is so cool! My brother told me that there's even a big vaulted ceiling that... Hey Alex are you ok?" Said a young girl, one year younger than her and probably even a foot smaller than her. "Oh! Tak, sorry! I vas looking around, everythink is so exciting!" Said Alex with her thick polish accent and eyes sparkling with joy. The young, soon to be student passed besides their new teachers, but the only people that stood out to Alex was a blonde woman that she couldn't tell why but made her very warm in the chest and a man that intead instantly made that feeling go away.

Professor Koch was there, trying his best to smile, at least politely as his new pupils walked past him, he didn't hated children but he was so tempted to shut himself in his office and peacfully read a nice essay of anathomy instead of standing there like a mannequin. "They all seems so eager to start and learn, I hope you'll have no issues since this is your first year as a teacher, Professor Koch" Said with a smile Headmistress McGonagall, a nice but at the same time stern looking old lady. "Oh, nothing to worry Frau McGonagall, my time at the Heilungsministerium teached me how to have great patience" said a bit jokingly the german man to the scottish lady. Since he arrived to the castle his colleagues were extremelly nice and cordial to him and, most importantly, they trusted him deeply.

The Sorting Ceremony seemed to be a much loved tradition amongst most Hogwarts students and staff but sadly Harlan, just beginning his fourth year at the school, did not share the sentiment. It was long and filled with tedious speeches, every year since he had started Professor McGonagall had introduced at least one new teacher and apparently this year was going to be no different. They had a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, the new professor was easy to spot as he was the only new change to staff this year. He looked old and absolutely terrifying, Harlan kept glancing in his direction but didn't dare try and make any eye contact.

Last year the new professor joining Hogwarts had been Professor Ryker, the first year flying teacher and the new Slytherin head of house. Harlan hadn't had much interaction with the tall brunette other than passing in hallways and during Quidditch games, she was nice enough and his fellow students definitely seemed to like her. Most pureblood families followed Quidditch which meant he knew the Ryker name, half of the time Harlan assumed she was so popular simply because students wanted her autograph or an autograph of other Quidditch players.

He sat at the end of the Gryffindor table, closest to the teacher's table and rested his chin on his arms on the table. The Sorting Hat sang it's new song and he cheered along with the rest, albeit much quieter, then watched as the sorting began.

"Alba, Georgia." McGonagall called from the front, standing behind a rickety old chair and an even older looking hat. Nobody knew how it had managed to survive through the Battle and yet it had. A short blonde girl with her hair in plaits stepped out of the line and shuffled up to the front, taking a seat on the stool as carefully as possible. "Hufflepuff!" The Sorting Hat announced almost instantly, causing a roar of applause from the Hufflepuff table.

Professor Margot Ryker was seated opposite the Slytherin table, either by coincide or by the design of McGonagall. She wore her hair in a loose fishtail plait and deep green robes for the occasion of the Sorting Ceremony, particularly on the look out for those youngsters that would be joining her house for the entirety of their Hogwarts journey. As Henry Tanner became the first Slytherin of the new year, Margot grinned and clapped, sitting up a little bit straighter in her chair now that things were underway.

"Sherman, Aleksandra." Alex gathered her courage and stood up from the chair, she was a bit nervous and she wondered which "house" she'll have to live in, The Gryffindors looked nice enough, although she noticed a boy, probably a year older than her, that couldn't care less. But it didn't really matter to her, she would had been glad to be anywhere, even with the haughty looking Slytherins or the boring Hufflepuffs. She walked towards the teacher's table and took a seat on the old stool as she let them put the big weird hat on head. "Hmmmm... Your thoughts are difficult to read when they speak a different language... But I sense a will of iron... Gryffindor!" The talking hat boomed as the whole hall applauded, excpecially the Gryffindors for obvious reasons. Alex couldn't help but smile brightly and as soon the Sorting Hat was taken off her she gingerly walked to the Gryffindors' table and took a seat near the blond boy, the only apparently free spot for her. "Dobry wieczór!" Said Alex politely to the people on the table, she couldn't be more happy to be there.

Professor Koch was at the staff table wearing a simple yet posh grey suit, unlike most of his colleagues who wore house affiliated robes. "Quite an interesting tradition, It almost seems like it promotes some sort of social darwinism, four group of people united by the same traits that have to metaphorically battle for dominance..." observed the german man while referring to his much younger table neighbor, Professor Ryker.

Harlan offered the first year girl, Aleksandra, a small smile as she took a seat beside near him but then turned his face back toward the front and returned to his head to his arm. He remembered how daunting the Sorting Ceremony was and although tedious now he knew it was a big deal for those going through it, he wanted to at least appear friendly to the new Gryffindor's and the rest of the house had the same motto. It was the unwritten rule that Gryffindor did all they could to get behind those joining their house, so the Gryffindor's were always the loudest cheer and first to shuffle around so a first year had a place to sit.

Alyssa Thomas, one of the Gryffindor prefects, smiled widely at Alex and offered out a hand to the girl from across the table. "I'm Alyssa, me and Xavier Maddox are Gryffindor prefects so you'll probably be seeing a lot of us during your first few weeks. Welcome to the winning house."

Turning her head toward him to show that she had heard his comment, Margot chuckled softly and nodded a little. "I suppose you're right, Hogwarts houses are notoriously competitive. You get sorted into your team on day one and you have to make sure you're doing all you can to ensure your house comes out on top," She returned her gaze to the front as the Sorting Hat continued on, only having a small fraction of the line left now. "You never lose your House pride, it can also be a good thing. You build your family in those houses."

Alex shook Alyssa's hand with a bright smile. "Adoptive mother explained what prefekts are, uh... Like officers in army, tak?" Alex felt that she might had used the wrong analogy, but in her head it sounded right at least. "Vhat do ve do after? Ve vill go to room?" She asked as she watched the rest of the ceremony.
"Ashcroft. Sean... Slytherin!" Alex clapped along everyone as a blond haired kid thriumphally went to sit with his new peers, but then Alex gaze crossed an old man, a professor since he was at the staff table, that looked at the whole ceremony with interest yet with a stern icy gaze, it was a gaze that made her shouder in fear and revulsion, enough to make her look somewhere else.

"I see Frau Ryker, we never had this kind of tradition in my gymnasium, but I hope this sort of things will not hinder their education..." Said Koch to Margot while his gaze turned to look at th ceremony with mild interest yet he looked more like he was meditating.

The ceremony kept going for a while and as all the young pupils were finally sorted out to their respective houses and where eagerly sitting at the tables, their older peers knew wht was next, something that some of them looked forward since summer. "Attention please!" The headmistress said loudly as she hammered a golden spoon on her glass. Everybody stood silent as she raised from her seat, cleared her throat and with an hint of theatricalness she announced "Let the feast, begin!" As she spoke those words luxurious plates full of any food imaginable popped out of existence under the uncredolous eyes of the student, expecially the new ones.
"O Matko!!" Said Alex in utter joy and astonishment, but she hesitated a bit before grabbing a chicken leg just like her peers, afterall she was a bit hugry but she didn't wanted to look rude!

Alyssa laughed softly, shaking her head in response to Alex's comment. "Not quite, though the Slytherin prefect's would probably love that. We're more like... leaders. We set a good example for our house, or some of us do, and we take care of those in our house. You can come to us for everything." She explained, hoping that she had made Alex's understanding a little bit clearer as the girl definitely seemed like she would be an asset to Gryffindor. At first glance the first year seemed smart and she was incredibly sweet. "Where is your accent from?" Alyssa asked politely.

It was always fascinating to hear how other schools across the world worked, Margot knew there was a school in America with the same system as Hogwarts in terms of sorting but she knew it wasn't a popular method. "As their teachers it's our job to ensure that doesn't happen, I'm sure." She commented with a smile, "How are you finding Hogwarts so far?" The brunette quickly turned her attention over to McGonagall when she stood up to speak, but quickly became more interested in the food that appeared in front of them. Hogwarts feasts never failed to astound her.

Harlan certainly perked up when the food appeared, it was definitely a perk of the sorting ceremony. He picked up his plate and added some mashed potatoes with a little bit of chicken, deciding to start light with his meal. Students chatted around him and Harlan listened in quietly, taking in various pieces of different stories at different times. His peers certainly hadn't gotten any more interesting.

(Sorry for the delay, I had some stuff to do!)

Alex nibbled some of her chicken leg before answering. "Oh, I'm from Poland, but... I can't remember city..." She said a bit sadly, the whole amnessia affair still bummed her a lot and what's worse is tha even after a year she could only remember only some scattered details about her life, heck, she couldn't even remember her own birthday!. "From vhat city you come from? I'm vhit adoptive parents in little city called Dover!" She asked to her prefects and apparently newfounds friends.

Koch quietly took some meat from the tray, he apparently waasn't the guy that eat a lot, or at all if anything, but from his expression it was clear that he at least appreciated the food. "It's good so far, the office is big enough und the garden is really a magnificent sight, it reminds me of the gardens found in the castles of Moravia..." For a almost a split second a little smile formed on his face, as if he was fondly remembering a place he loved, but he quickly came back to his usual steely gaze. "I also have to say that my colleagues seems to be very polite and, most importantly, very discreet." He tuned his head to face Ryker, his eyes were cold but his expression was neutral, as if looking at people with a glacial gaze was his natural state. "Tell me Frau Ryker, do you value discretion?" He asked.

(No worries!)

"Poland, oh my father has been there for work with the Ministry! He says it's a really cool place," One of the girls sitting by Alyssa piped up, smiling at Alex. She was a little younger than the prefect, in her fifth year at Hogwarts but had clicked which Alyssa's group of friends whilst spending time together in the common room. It wasn't uncommon for years to mix, not when most of the group socialising took place on the evening before bed.

Alyssa grinned slightly, "I haven't been to either place, though my mother has been to Dover a few times I think. I'm from Chester, there's a really popular zoo there that all the muggles like to visit." She explained with a shrug, unsure if Alex would know much about Chester itself. Few people did, it wasn't known for much in the magical world as nothing very significant had been made there.

Koch was intense, something Margot wasn't used to. He reminded her of none of her professors back when she'd been at Hogwarts and had few similarities with any of the current professors, he seemed wise beyond his years somehow and she wasn't quite sure how to take that. But he was very polite and was making conversation with her so that was good enough for the moment. "If a situation requires it then yes, I do value discretion." Margot replied, meeting his eye for a moment before turning back to look out across the hall. "I think you'll fit in very well here, Defence Against the Dark Arts is always one of the more popular subjects."
