Little known and very true fact: Half Life 3 was never released because Valve could not hope to purchase all the rights to all the existing video game characters that would cross over in the game, not to mention the effort it would take to fly in all those expensive voice actors.
So, Gabe Newell decided that it would be much cheaper to just release the game on RP Nation rather than on the Source engine. Genius, right? And so, here it is - the very real and genuine, Half-Life 3!
The story so far:
An evil alien race from an alternate universe, the Combine, collapsed Earth's government in just seven hours and took dominion over the planet in order to further their own species. Quite displeased with this, humanity eventually mounted an uprising against their dictators before they effectively juiced the planet for everything it's got. Equally displeased, the Combine detonated their most powerful structure on Earth in order to rip a portal between dimensions that they could feed their armies through to crush humanity once and for all.
Unwittingly, the portal bled through multiple realities, and several people from different universes found themselves inadvertently in the middle of a war for the fate of the planet.
With the Nation's previous hero missing while reportedly searching for a superweapon to defeat the aliens, only those pulled from across realities stand a chance at beating the Combine where they stand and returning home to their worlds.
After nine years in development, hopefully it will have been worth the wait.
